I am really Peggy Tower writing here on his account. This was a most beautiful swing version of that song. Mostly to say Jason Roberts has 1 new fan from this just under eighty greatgandmoother up here in Central West Michigan!
A little background on this favorite Texas song and played by fiddlers all over the country. The song was written in the 1856 by Tekla Bądarzewska in Bulgaria as a solo piano piece. She was a famous pianist and gave concerts all over Europe. Soon it was known well in Bulgaria and surrounding areas and was played by many musicians including violinists. When the Europeans emmigrated and brought their music with them to Texas this song came with them. It was a favorite dance tune for many years by many artists including Bob Wills. Sometime in the 50's these English words were written to the melody and have remained with it today. You can look up the original piano solo quite easily on RUclips as "A Maiden's Prayer." It is surprising how much and how little it has changed in a little over 150 years. Here is a link to one of my favorite piano versions of the song. Stan Howe
