  • I decided to do an informal temperature test of all the various warmers I have in my home using an infrared thermometer. I tested various styles of Scensty warmers, as well as Glade, Yankee, Ashland, Mainstays brands , as well as a tea light warmer.

    Oh my goodness - This was a perfect video for me right now! As I'm thinking of Christmas gifts, I will definitely reference back to this video! One of my favorite warmers is the Love (white colored) element warmer from Scentsy. I just checked, and it is a 12 watt element warmer. It has a low & wide dish. It throws better than my next favorite warmer, Country Light. After watching this, it now makes sense since it loses heat with the clear glass. But it is so pretty all lit up! I also love the Enjoy the little things mini warmer - I have it in the master bathroom. It is a good reminder to enjoy the little things with my littles! Thank you for another informative, well made video! Smiles, Abby Smith

    Hi Patricia! I'm very late to the game in commenting on this, but I absolutely loved that you took the time to do this testing. I think I mentioned before, my problem with finding the right warmer for melting vendor wax (I'm new to vendor wax so have very limited knowledge about how it all works), and it has taken some time to get the right combination. I'm still not 100% certain I have the right set up, but it works for now.
    When I first started warming vendor wax, I did so in a Scentsy warmer, not realizing I was voiding my warranty. Since I was having a problem with the throw, I quickly moved on to the Mainstays hotplate warmer. That didn't work for me because of the very thing you mentioned - it gets too hot. I've since purchased two of the Ashland warmers from Michaels, so that is what I'm using now for vendor wax.
    The other interesting thing for me was the duration of the scent in the vendor wax. I have used Scentsy wax for years, so I'm very used to putting 1-2 cubes of wax in my Scentsy warmer and it lasting for several days. I fully expected the vendor wax to do the same thing - it does not. I think I''m getting somewhere between 8-12 hours with the vendor wax before I have to change it out. I think I just became spoiled with Scentsy and didn't even realize it :) I'm loving the vendor wax journey though, so I'm not giving that up any time soon.
    Thanks again for the great video!

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes
      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  5 лет назад +1

      Well I am still a rookie myself with the vendor wax journey but when my husband surfaced with his new toy, and seeing some warmers “burn” off the scent I wanted to see how hot they all get. At first I just checked them all, but then decided to do an informal video since it also ties in with Tester Tuesday...as some warmers in my big area had their scent evaporate earlier than others. It makes a bit more sense to me now.
      It definitely is a juggling act figuring out the right combination of warmers with certain wax styles in your home.
      And the sad thing about MOST vendor wax is that it doesn’t last as long as Scentsy. For me the 2 that seem to last the longest lately are VCS and L3 Waxy Wonders.

    • @jingleswaxadventures8790

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes
      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  5 лет назад +3

      I think they don’t get much warmer than some of the 25w bulb warmers. Well, I should say the 40w likely get warmer than the 25w glass ones, but the 25w Scentsy CERAMIC warmers seem to get the hottest. The Edison 40w all seem to have a lot of glass so that causes them to lose heat, bringing them close to the majority of the 25w ones.
      I’d say get it if you love the look but it’s probably not going to result in a huge increase in scent throw.

      Oh yeah, I definitely think you should try one of the 40 watt warmers. I have the Vino (2 of them) and i have the Quill which is a cousin to the parlor. i love both of these warmers. The Quill is sold out, but i think it has the same type of dish as the Parlor which is a concave dish. I used to get allot of wax in there and it gave off a good throw, too. I also want the Country Light and the crystal warmer and the parlor, but i gotta show some restraint...lol. good luck on your choosing. You can't go wrong with either of them, though.

      Excellent point about the wax smelling burnt! I’ve definitely smelled that before with the “hotter” warmers. I think it’s because the window is small from having some fragrance oil left to none at all.

      Hi Patricia, Do you think the Classic Curve would be a good warmer, thrower? I don’t believe they make the ceramic ones the way they used to. But I do believe the throw is better than the glass warmers and your experiment proved it.🥰

      My concern with that one is the super wide and large dish. For some reason It’s in the back of my mind that some people say the wax didn’t fully melt in the corners of the square shaped dish BUT I could be mistaken and be thinking a different warmer.
      Personally I like the ones that are circular in shape and ceramic. I have Stone Leaf now and Etched core and they are both pretty good and both are ceramic.

    Oh, I thought this was a fabulous video, Patricia, so informative and science-based. I actually had that Mainstays warmer when I started melting back in early 2018, and it was so hot that I was afraid of it, and threw it away. 😮 Same thing for the Ashland-type hot plate - quick strong throw and done, and also I think you miss the subtlety of layers of scent which could come off more gradually if the melter weren't so hot. One reason I think I am enjoying Scentsy wax so much is that it does melt at a lower temperature - not needing the hottest melter - and has great longevity, which I enjoy. The same can be said for my favorite vendor waxes, such as Empire Alchemy, Destination Wax or Vintage Road Candles. I prefer a scent to build gradually and stay at about a 7-8 strength and throw - I really don't want to be bowled over by a scent - so again, the mid-range warmers work best for me, such as Scentsy Enchanted Pumpkin, Scentsy Jack Skellington, and Yankee Scenterpiece. I love this topic and thank you for addressing it in such a thorough way. ❤️

    I have only had a couple of Tea Light warmers over the years but wasn't too impressed with them. With the exception of those, all I've ever used are Scentsy Warmers and I love them because the wax is less apt to burn if I spill it while carrying and disposing of it I can be pretty clumsy at times lol!

    Good information Patricia. I think I would need to avoid the very hot Mainstays warmer. I would no doubt touch it, burn myself, and spill wax all over. I have 25 watt bulb warmers and element warmers which get hot enough to melt the wax thoroughly but not so hot that I couldn't stick my finger in the wax. I personally find that the throw depends more on the particular fragrance than the warmer. That may be because my warmers all seem to melt the wax to about the same temperature using the unscientific finger in the wax test. Look forward to your videos.

      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, I agree! Especially about the throw and the type of scent!
      You buy warmers not knowing much but that Mainstays is probably hotter than most people need.
      I do love that silver Ashland one though since it sits on top and the dish flares I can pick it up on its edges easier since they don’t get as hot and it doubles as a candle hot plate.

    I have several 16w wax warmers but the temp is too warm, I'm shooting for 90 degrees... I know that is too low for wax but using this for a different application.
    Thanks for the video, I love having my house smell like lavender.. Lemon grass is nice too...

      If you take a full size warmer and put a lower wattage bulb in it that might be the only way to get such a low temp. Even our lower wattage warmers (8w) element still melt the wax but would get above the temp your looking for.
      Just a heads up...I’m not sure what you would be using it for but if anything other than Scentsy wax goes in the dish the Scentsy warranty would be void. Good luck in finding your solution.

    Wow, Patricia! This was a great video. Very interesting. I also melt vendor wax, but i only use Scentsy warmers mainly because of the safety factor to myself. I'm notorious for sticking my fingers in the wax by mistake when i go to change the wax or just reach for things. This is a hazard of my being blind...lol. My favorite warmers right now are the Vino (i have two for my open concept room) and the Accord warmer which is the best of my hot plate warmers. It gets super hot and i can pretty much melt anything in it and the Vino. The only wax i have the most problems with is 100% soy wax. i think my next warmer will be the Crystal Light warmer for the kitchen and then i'll have all 40 watt warmers in that space. I didn''t realize Jack was a 15 watt. I thought he was a 20 watt. I used him this past October and i did have issues with some of my wax melting and throwing. Now i know why. He was cute though. If the electrical components say 25w you can not exceed that or it could be a fire hazard. Do you know the name of the warmer? Certain ones like the Classic Curve have a reputation of not melting the wax in the corners because the dish is so big.
      If it’s a different warmer it might be an idea to swap that bulb out for another 25w scentsy bulb in case it’s a dud.

    Fantastic video Patricia. Very interesting. The element warmers come in different wattages, l wish they would put the wattage of element warmers in the description so you would know before you buy them. I find 8 watt element warmers useless I.e. qwerty and turned it into coin dish. The 12 watt element warmers are super. If a scent lasts 12 hours in a 25w bulb warmer, it's gone in 8 hours from the 12w element warmer so I joke the element warmers eat the wax. Great video, will watch this more than once.

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes
      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  5 лет назад +1

      Yes.
      I fully agree Scentsy should mention what each element warmer wattage is. That is annoying. It’s my opinion they should do away with the 8w entirely. Go with either 10w, 12w, or 13w.
      If people buy an 8w and it’s terrible...the customer is not happy and then nobody wins as it will liekely deter future purchases.

    Really informative video once again! You go above and beyond - I really appreciate your work! My favourite Warmer is the Vino 👌 Mini warmer I have been really impressed with! I first got the whoot mini warmer for my living area (was waiting for the Vino to come back in stock) and it filled that area wonderfully! I was using Lime Zest and Vanilla that first week. I’m also pleasantly surprised by the Seashore mini warmer. It’s glass/wire but gives great strength and throw and the wax lasts days! That’s in my bathroom. Have you found day 1 in the big warmers are strong, then you turn them off overnight, turn them back on in the morning and they never seem to get back to where they left off? They seem like half strength from when you turned them off? Am wondering if thats the case for other people. If so is that why some people leave them going 24/7. When I first got the mini whoot and it was my only warmer I leaf it on overnight (because I also wanted it for a night light) and the 1 cube lasted approx 3 days (and nights). When I got the full size warmer i used 2 cubes and turned it off overnight. It lasted 2 days. Much shorter and an extra cube.. I was consider trying your trick of using 2 warmer for a 2 roomed space (kitchen/living) and putting 1 cube in each. See if that prolongs the scent. I guess it’s all trial and error. Your videos have been very helpful! Thanks again.

    • @Therese-q5u
      @Therese-q5u 3 года назад

      FYI the whoot warmer is on a wall in the middle of the room so it’s got a good position to scent the whole area. Maybe I will still use it for 1 cube as well as the Vino which is on one side of the room. Or I might get another full size warmer as I like to leave Whoot on overnight and turn the Vino off.

      There is only so much oil in each cube. As it’s heated the oil leaves so that’s why its not as strong on day 2.
      The hotter the warmer the stronger the scent but the faster it wears off since those scent oils are leaving the wax pool faster.
      So you have to fiddle around with amounts and Warner’s and placement to see what works vest for you.
      This is a really old video and I haven’t watched it in years so I might not have gotten my thoughts out well.

      Are you warming Scentsy or other retail / vendor wax?
      For a big room definitely consider adding a second warmer.
      Scentsy wax - 1-2 full size 25w CERAMIC bulb warmers (if you’re not sure message me some pics on Facebook or Instagram @patriciagaetz)
      I’d avoid glass warmers, or element warmers in general from Scentsy.
      If vendor I’d say 1-2 20w hot plates (the 24w are hard to come by now and also give a strong throw but the wax wears off quickly)
      You’d have to do some research on some 20w hotplates. Other people use tea light warmers or 25w halogen bulb warmers or even 25w ceramic bulb warmers from Scentsy with good results.

      Big zones (or high ceiling ones) sometimes need a second warmer so keep that in your back pocket. Also be choosy on what scents you warm there. In general I only warm scents that smell really strong in the clamshell in my big open ceiling area or ones that have a reputation as being really strong

      @@PatriciaG-NosetoToes I've noticed that I definitely have to be choosy about which waxes I can use in there which is a bummer because I do love a lot of soft ones like Apricot Vanilla, Pacific Sandalwood, Vanilla Oud and for some reason Bonfire Beach struggles in there and it's my all time favorite but I barely smell it in there so I save it for my bedroom only. A lot of people say Bonfire Beach is a strong performer but my living room disagrees of course 🤣 Luckily we are military and we move a lot so I won't always have this giant ceiling to compete with. I’d say as long as the wax is fully melting any impact would likely be minimal. The thicker the wax pool sometimes the oils have a “harder time” getting through the wax but I’d doubt it would be a big deal.

      Okay because someone that owns a fragrance oil company sent me fragrance oils and a wax warmer and said to put the fragrance oil in the wax warmer. It's heated by a bulb. I was looking at wax warmers that are electric and have the heating element what temperature control. I use one of those electric diffusers that you put water in and drops of fragrance oil but recently, it bothers my lungs.

      You can try but I would stick with the recommended wattage. You can also usually put a lower wattage bulb in but never a higher wattage bulb .
      Sometimes it’s the design and material of the warmer that affects the heat output (which you can’t do much about that.) Warmers are fairly inexpensive, so if it warms too hot I’d just get a different one personally.

    Do you have any insight on the Charred warmer? I love the look but noticed it’s only a 20 watt. I’ve never tried a 20 watt warmer before and don’t want to waste my money. It’s so beautiful though! Not sure why they couldn’t do this one in 25 watts. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes
      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  4 года назад +1

      I don’t have the Charred warmer, but I do quite like the looks of it...but like you I don’t like to go for 20w bulb warmers.
      With glass warmers they don’t ever have vent holes so I’m thinking the glass got a bit too hot with a 25w trial bulb so they went with 20w instead. I am guessing they do multiple electrical set ups in the development stage - and test for heat output, safety, etc... and I assume they shoot for a certain temperature range and for whatever reason they went with the lower of the 2 bulbs.
      I’ll likely do a warmer video with features that affect performance in the next few weeks.
      So I doubt that’s a lot of help but perhaps if I bite the bullet and get it someday I can test it’s temperature 🤒

I’m still on the fence. I’ve got a half off item to use so I gotta make up my mind! 😝 thanks again for your help and all of your videos. I’m always excited when I see you’ve posted a new one! 😊

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes
      @PatriciaG-NosetoToes  4 года назад

      Terri I’m guessing the darkness of the charred warmer might factor in with heat retention. Plus the fact there is no real “breaks” or see through areas in the glass where heat can “escape” as easily in the clear areas of the Crystal Leaves warmer. BUT that’s purely just a guess. It would be worth a shot for a bedroom but not for an open concept area for me personally.

    I can’t even believe how many waxers you have lol. I have a glass waxer that is definitely not as hot as my ceramic. It’s a 25w, should I buy a higher watt to make it hotter or is that dangerous?

    • @PatriciaG-NosetoToes

      Never exceed the max recommendation for wattage for each warmer - becomes a challenge to the electrical system as is a potential fire hazard.

  • @jpan7071

    Patricia, you still have a lot of confused viewers/ subscribers. They/I want warmers that perform. I also want beautiful. If possible. What temperature range is optimal for throw? You did something here that no one ever bothers to do (and is invaluable)-actually take temperatures of all these warmers you have. But you must provide some context. To some degree you do, but not enough. How do I know? I read the comments. Viewers are still confused. The one thing you absolutely are crystal clear is that not all warmers are performers.
    So could please do a second video where you again take temperatures and provide feedback as to performance (nose test). And tell us what factors into the performance/non-performance of each warmer. Ceramic. Glass. Composite. Bulb capacity. Dish size. Dish material composition. Is it flat. Wide. How close it is to bulb. You hit on all these areas, but in a kind of scattershot way.
    You are the only one who can pull this off. I wish I could, but I just discovered vendor wax (like discovering sliced bread) And as of just one month ago, I had just one warmer. Just sitting. Unused. A Scentsy warmer. Ceramic. Good performer. Got it about 15 years ago. Back when wax vendors were hardly a thing. Back when Scentsy just had basic warmers-not these works of art that may or may not perform.
    Anyway, I’m so very glad I discovered your channel.

      Sorry about any confusion. This was a very EARLY video for me. I was likely going through some growing pains and learning myself.
      Also with temperature cks on warmers over the years I’ve realized it’s hard to standardize the results. Temperature guns gives an “guide” or idea of performance but the ones we have access to are inexpensive and likely less sensitive.
      In general for performance / intensity of scent I’d advise a 25w ceramic bulb warmer. That’s a typically good starting point. Older warmers that have stood the test of time sometimes are good “bets”. A wide dish and one that is close to the bulb is helpful. A ceramic dish is valuable too. SO many factors to consider.
      Maybe it’s best to film another video. I’ll add it to my list. I’ve just been tight on time lately (thanks to my family and work life) but I’ll see what I can do this summer.
      Thanks for your feedback / suggestions
