I really like how you phrased that. How Lady Whistledown is Penelope’s voice. Not only does Eloise not realize that, but Colin will struggle with that as well.
Which is crazy because they both write. Even though Bridgerton's being the subject matter is what is stuck in their craw as the problem. Gossip has always been something that we've consumed, and we write off the authors constantly. Tho the fact remains, they're still creative writers.
It's frustrating for me that so few people ever allow that Whistledown did anything good or useful, let alone important, for the ton. Everyone focuses on the few cutting remarks and not on launches, compliments, baby or wedding, or new couple announcements, protecting people who deserve it, or even outing people's misdeeds for the greater good. Social commentary is not just gossip or just mean. It reflects the society back to itself like a mirror (!) So any negatives that are there are often because they already existed, not because the writer created them. Colin finally realizes this when talking to Cressida, but we as the audience seem to dismiss itin our rush to punish the characters whose stories we don't like. Nothing Penelope ever wrote was a lie, it was just inconvenient or unflattering truth that we blame her forso we don't have to look in the mirror (!) I wonder how many people who judge Penelope for her Whistledown persona have looked in that mirror at themselves. Do they realize they are actually mad at themselves when they attack her? I do.
I don't think I could agree more with you. Jess Brownell, the showrunner, said this in an interview with The Wrap: "[...] I think now Pen will have to navigate what it’s like to be a public gossip columnist, not only dealing with the people she writes about, but also taking steps to be more accountable in what she writes. Accountability and authenticity are two things that she’s had to really face this season, and we’re gonna continue that thread going into Season 4." Also: "The show always lives in a place of gossip. It’s still gossip, but we tried to make a point at the end of Season 3, that gossip gets a little bit of a bad reputation and that … it can be information, especially for vulnerable people, like the young women in the ton, sharing information about the way certain men are treating other women or treating their staffs. Gossip can actually be used to correct some wrongs, and so hopefully going forward, you’re going to see a more responsible version of Lady Whistledown who’s who is using her pen to speak truth to power."
I was like you when Benedict stuck his fingers into that jelly stuff and licked them. Sir, are you imagining it's something else? 👀 Also, Jess Brownell, the showrunner, said that in modern terms Benedict might be considered pansexual. 😊🌈🏳️🌈
Isn't Eloise a writer herself? She should know better than to think it is okay for another to take credit for your work under Any circumstance. I know that she's hurt but she should have shown empathy as a fellow creative.
Seems most miss that Penelope and Colin’s wedding is a big social event and it’s scheduled first. Francesca is putting Violet in a difficult position with the queen. LD already told her it’s not a good time. And… There is so much going on. Also Cressida was horrid to Daphne, season 1. I seriously think she’s incapable of being happy. The only enjoyment she seems to get is from the pain of others. She lacks empathy and authenticity. I know it’s the lack of control in her own life and how she was raised. But still

This is my favorite channel. I especially like it when you explain everything so nicely. I wish you a lot of success with the channel and happy life.

Totally see this take!! Her character is always so contradictory 😭
