Hey Chris- We have his brother (red collar pup). Love your perfect description of "half Tasmanian half couch potato." So true and hilarious!! We feel the same as you regarding these awesome American Bulldogs. 😀
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels no problem I just bought an hybrid American bull,so I’m checking out everyone channel that has AB, and so far yours is the best. I’m not new to hounds I’m just new to this breed
Yes sir those are very smart dogs! They make great hunting/protection and house dogs!!! I'm just like u with taking care of em! Yes my dogs always let me know when something or someone is around, I can tell the difference also! Great video man
Amazing isn't it!!!! My game bred working Alligator bulldogs will herd our chickens and not harm them. People don't believe that a working game bred bulldog has the intelligence for such a task. Sir, you have some good dogs. Now I won't lie, I've got a few bulldogs that came from the bulldogs that can herd and its a different story....it will just be a mess of feathers left. They are very versatile and will amaze you with their ability and intelligence levels. I only breed for the all around working game bred farm American Pit Bull Terriers. All of my bulldogs excel at wild hog and vermin hunting and some will pack up and a few are solo walk in catch dogs. Keep up the good work my friend.
Lol yea it’s hard to beat Neyland for me. We kept a male pup the last litter and I believe he’s going to be Neyland made over. Got high hopes for him. Thanks for watching my friend 👍🏻
I have a couple of litters per year. I have one due around February 24th. Should be here anytime. If interested email me at prideofthesouthlandkennels@outlook.com and we can set up a phone call.
My love for dogs grows more as I continue to learn more about them. As a child I had a fear of dogs. I was afraid of dogs because I almost lost 3 fingers as a child from a stray dog. Now any free time I have I spend it with my dogs just watching them run, wrestle move and interact. They can be the best company just sitting in the sun and all of drinking water after a flirt pole exercise. I decided to get into American bulldogs first and foremost for the added protection and alertness...I have a house full of females and I wanted to do the best I could for them. So I made a basic checklist Home protection ✔ security system ✔ Guard dogs ✔ once my male is about a year old imma let him sleep outside his kennel on our floor gain some confidence in his home to keep watch for us. At only 8 months and 70 lbs and a innate desire to guard and stand watch I think he will turn out just fine for us. I sleep with My tool close...you said it best just extra 5 seconds to gather yourself.
Thanks Fernando I appreciate you sharing that. Once anyone has a true respect for what a dog is capable of doing they will learn to love them. That’s right just 5 seconds is all it takes 👍🏻
We lived on a small farm and My Ambulls were great guard dogs but were not law suits waiting to happen like a german shepard or rotti we had in the past. My grandpa from belgium was into racing pigions. A lot of people from town or the city used to drop unwanted cats off near our farm that would kill the racing pigeons. The bulldogs usually killed these cats along with many many racoons that were nuisance animals. Them being able to catch cats is a testiment to there athleticism. I doubt extreme bully types could do the same. Some of the challenges is also their prey drive. They didn't seem to care about the underground shocker fence even with upgraded shockers, they were hard to control once they seen a wild animal or an accidental dog fight started. I admit that I wasn't the perfect owner at the time but I was pretty good for giving them lots of exercise, keeping them in a kennel and keeping a good eye on them but a few accidents happened. On time I caught them trying to attack the neighbors horses for eg, that was scary. Only happened once. Compared to a "typical" live stock guardian" type guard dog breed they have a much higher prey drive. With proper training they would have likely made great hunting dogs or drug sniffer dogs, my female used her nose a lot to get on a scent.
Thank you for sharing your story. These dogs definitely have a much higher prey drive than a typical livestock guardian breed. I’m learning that a better job for my dogs may be predator control. It would be a way for my dogs to protect my animals without having direct contact with them or unsupervised contact at minimum
I'm a results talk type man.here in eastern oregon where I live there are very few ranch dogs that can handle the protection role due to coyotes, cougars, and now unfortunately wolves.in my experience the only effective partners I've had are American bulldogs and great Pyrenees. I need my livestock and family protected, not me.i carry a 454 casull for that.ive had every " bad ass dog" you could imagine imagine to do the job,all to be killed.the American bull dogs ive had
@@South3West77 the wolf problem in eastern Oregon has been an ongoing problem that never should have been.the denial of thier existence by our state agencies went on for years due to no maintenance plan.ranchers have lost quite a few livestock(sheep, goats, cattle, pets)with no support from the state due to the ignorant liberals on the left side of the state that don't have to live with them but out number us in the east.dogs help more with the coyote, the wolves shy from an area with dogs.
Could or would you ever keep a couple dogs loose at night for home protection? when my bulldogs were older, better trained and a little less wild I sometimes I let them loose for the night especially if or after an incident happened with a potential thief. The big difference with bulldog related breeds and typical guard dog breeds is they more often leave the home to go after prey, a scent or even to hunt, when it comes to leaving them out I find. But that being said there are many reasons why I prefer a bulldog or even the amstaff my dad has over a german shepard for eg. My dads amstaff is a good watch/guard dog but he's just a clown, very entertaining and affectionate dog to have. An American bulldog is also a much tougher and stronger dog if something really goes down.
I do allow two currently to roam inside a large fence at night. I have Neyland my oldest male out and I run one of his daughters with him so he can train her a little bit. My plan is to completely move away from dogs in kennels. I’d like to have dogs that respect a boundary that is given to them and not have them escape the fence. We will always have kennels for as needed basis but I have learned this dogs are Much more confident outside of a kennel as far as living goes
Daniel, what a great video again! A dog as a first alert century is best, and the last thing that you want a dog to do is maul some Dilbert dumb-butt trespassing who would claim that he was only innocently lost and was looking for help. Now in the unfortunate event that the human telling old Dilbert to get off your land isn't enough, well then the dogs have to step in and deliver the old chompers. When it comes to varmints and pigs well the dog has to have gaminess and a willingness to mix it up and the smarts to avoid as much injury in doing that just like Neyland did . Therefore drive and intelligence and discernment = "Dead Game." And yes sir those girls of yours would be good on the hunt because the purpose is for he pig to die. And a butchers' dog has the drive to hold but not kill. Boxers used to be good for that. Speaking of Boxer dog; how is that project going and will you restore them to their old utility standards (which were a lot like Pitbull's)? I love the performance + Scott + Painter + Mathews American Bulldogs. Thanks for your hard work and I'm glad you didn't get hurt in either case.
Thank you for the kind words as always my friend. I always appreciate your input. I’m really not sure how far I will go with my Boxers to be honest. At times I see hope with them and other times not so much. My heart is with the American Bulldogs more.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels Yes I totally get that about the boxer dog. I was watching the documentary World War II in colour. And in one scene with Hitler he had a boxer. And it looked like a pitbull American bulldog mix with cropped ears and docked tail. It looked like a dog that could actually perform. They just have to get rid of all that under shot and flat face structure. And breed the dog for soundness such as hardy physique. The drive can be brought back into them I believe that giving them what it takes physically to perform will be the challenge. Unless outcrossing is done. And the boxer parent club wouldn't be having any of that noise.
My thoughts exactly. I don’t think boxers can be bred to only boxers to achieve the results needed. Really need longer muzzles and there aren’t many if any boxers out there that possess that.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels The only thing I believe could save that breed would be introducing the Spanish Alano mastiff into them.. Or better yet why even bother with the boxer just get Spanish Alano's. But you don't need a Spanish Alano when you have American bulldog's around.
I know very little about the breed but I believe they have a lot of working potential but I haven’t seen any that I believe could work longer than a standard type American Bulldog. Just basing that off of the structure of the dogs alone.
Having owned many southern bulldog types over the years, and now owning an Alapha for the last 3 years...they are amazing dogs. Extremely physical, stable of mind and very affectionate. Obviously this is dependent of the lines and the quality of the breeders program. Check out FF Fox Alapahas..one of the few breeders in the USA that raise original working lines.
