    Thank you for this. I like that you had the C in black over the part on the thermostat. I did notice the "C wire optional with batteries" on the plastic below. I will add that you should always use a voltage detector before touching anything to make sure everything is off. Because sometimes there is a hidden supply of electricity going into things.
    I don't have drywall- the people who built this place used 1/8" wood panels. I can see that they just poked a hole through for the wires.

    This video saved my life! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get a C wire connection to our new ecobee3 lite. We have an older furnace with no C connection point. We had the unconnected extra wire and the trick to connect it up to the opposite wire as the yellow coming in from the a/c condenser was gold. My furnace controller board only had R W G so no C connection on the board. I thought I was out of luck. Worked like a charm! Thank you so much!!

    Thank you for this video. I got some new basic Nest thermostats and the batteries are draining way too fast in them. We had some old Honeywell thermostats with an LCD screen and I'm thinking that maybe the C wire was not even necessary for those thermostats even though it was connected. I'm thinking that I need to remove the cover from the air handler and make sure that that blue wire is actually connected inside my air handler. I'm hoping that it's not connected in the air handler and that connecting it will solve my battery drainage issue. Apparently this is a common problem that nest owners have and Google doesn't seem to be able to answer the question so I'm hoping that this solves my issue and others if they see this post and your video.

The board does not have a common wire connection option.. is there anything else I can use to supply 24 volts to the smart thermostat I'm trying to hook up as there is no common connection capabilities on the control board on my gas heater. I know I have an option to install a small rectifier to the main power coming in to step it down to 24 volts to supply the thermostat but I can't remember if there's something else in a furnace that does not have a common option on the control board that can supply the T stat at no more than 24 volts?

    I had this working on a Honeywell T6 Pro but as soon as the power was disconnected to change the filter, it stopped working. I had to go back to my old 4 wire thermostat that has no blue wire. Blue wire on opposite 2 wires to compressor and the board actually is labeled "C". I tried disconnecting the blue write on T6 and use only 4 wires but it didn't work. When I look at the Thermostat with the T6 equipment & blue wire, it says "standby waiting". I waited for 10 mins., but no change. Meanwhile the thermostat is blinking "Cool On" which means it is sending the signal but nothing is happening. Everything worked great with the 23 yr old Trane Thermostat the second I connected it.

      This video helped me in learning the wire to the compressor could be substituted for 24v needed from a dedicated c wire output. It sounds like you have the same wiring I had in my system. Without a c wire, a new 5 conductor wire would need to be run in place of the existing 4 conductor wire. It can be bought at Home Depot by the foot, then connect hour new t-stat per the instructions. If the wire is stuck in the wall you might be better off making a new hole closer to the unit and doing some sheet rock repair. Otherwise a c-wire adaptor can be used which allows the 5 wire signaling to be controlled with 4 wires from your new t-stat but they are way more difficult to make use of if your system doesn't have a dedicated c-wire output from a control board. So tag, you're it! Now it's your turn to share knowledge when you see a problem you can help with.

    • @cutekitten9856
      @cutekitten9856 Год назад +6

      @@sambadeuneaux I was able to run a 5 conductor wire (actually 8 conductor) for one of my zones/thermostats, but not for the other - it was too far away from the furnace and the old wire was stuck and could not be pulled. But I was able to solve the problem anyway. All you need is a 24 Volt Transformer - exact same you use for your doorbell chime. It can supply power to the thermostat and thus act as a c-wire replacement.

    It seems to me that if the Yellow from the thermostat is connected to the transformer and contactor at the same time that the contactor will have power at all time and therefore the compressor will be on at all times. The yellow from the thermostat will not be a signal to activate the magnetic coil within the contactor. I make this observation because you are stating to connect the blue to the other side of the coil contactor.
    I am not being a wise ass. I truly want to understand and know where the blue should be connected, if the yellow at the airhandler does not have the transformer connected together with the yellow of the thermostat and the contactor coil line. It seem the other side of the contactor coil is the common you want to be tied into the additional blue wire; and if I follow you correctly, then the blue wire will not have power to turn on the nest thermostat.
    Where did I go wrong in my analysis?
    Eager for some insight from a tech, I am still green behind the ears when it comes to HVAC. But willing to learn.
    Thank you for your time.

    I think this is mis-leading - It says ANY without C wire - But yet, you installed a c-wire.. I think this should be re-labeled...

      It was intended to show people that the c wire is there a lot of the times but it is hidden, or not conencted

      they may have cut the other wires, peel the insulation back a little and check. if the other wires are not there you need to run a new wire or sometimes they have an adapter that comes with the thermostat

    Your video literally says "No C Wire", but the wiring has a C wire...you should reallly change your title as it is wrong.
