Thank you so much for this video!I'm a widowed woman and my digital thermostat went bad and I could not figure out how to get my furnace to blow heat..until I watched your video.Thank you so so much, truly appreciate you makin' this.
I just want to stop by and say thank you. I'm doing a self install on a Goodman 4 ton Package unit with a new wifi thermostat. The control board told me everything was working properly but the fan would not engage. So I followed your direction (testing) and sure enough it was a bad brand new thermostat..Now I get $100 back on the return and paid $27 for a different non wifi thermostat. Once again thank you..
You're right! It's not complicated! I just needed it explained clearly! Thank you so much - first time home owner, strapped for cash, and now the master of my HVAC system!
Thank you, so much! I changed the thermostat 2 months ago and realized that I hadn’t connected the heat element wire! I took pictures of my old thermostat and the”W” was hidden; I assumed it was the ground a wire that I didn’t need! It’s been cold this week and if it weren’t for your video , I would’ve called a someone to check our unit because the fan was working but no heat! 🙏🏼 thank you! My home is warm and cozy
David Jones may be a tradesman, but he is being a professional here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It really is very simple. I almost hired a service tech for an $85 service call (and that is cheap nationally).
Great Video. It is nice to know that so many viewers picked up on the "Missing Orange Wire" in the cooling section. I take it that most unit's reversing valves come in the "Heat Position." Just trying to learn a little bit about the workings of a heat/cooling pump. FR
Thank you you saved my butt, Trying to find a HVAC technician on Memorial Day weekend Was impossible or too expensive A little trick to hotwire for cool Save me my family from a hot weekend
When you gain experience over the years you becomes the godfather in what you doing, this is what the video said beside the wiring. thanks and thumbs up..
Thanks for this amazing video and instructions I followed your instructions installed my Honeywell smart thermostat this morning no issues works great thanks for your help God bless you
Thank you So much was 102 today and very hot in my home $120.00 for a new Thermostate your video helped me out Thank you for caring to share. Hot California
Thank you! I’ve been looking for these simple answers for 2 weeks now! So glad someone finally explained how it all works in a way that makes sense to people that are not HVAC trained.
THANK YOU MR DAVID !!!!! my ac just blew up n im changing to a heat pump n i need more than 4 wires so i have to start over n this will help bigtime!!!!!!!!!
Best vid I have seen. Wish you had mentioned Rheem and Ruud and where to connect reversing valve wire (normally orange) since their reversing valve works backwards from other mfg. In other mfg heat pumps it energizes the reversing valve in the cooling mode but with Rheem and Ruud it energizes the reversing valve in the heating mode.
I broke my heat pump. 😢. Never had a heat pump and in first winter the outdoor unit was running and running so I turned it to emergency heat and when weather improved no compressor running on heat or cold , had a lock compressor 2000 D to get fixed. I wish I had watched this before. THANKS for sharing your knowledge.
Great video! None of Honeywell's documentation explained what letters are what on the back of their thermostat. This video helped me out greatly, thank you.
Thank you David, your instruction got my gas heat to work, manually, and it is heating my house. I connected the Red, Green and White and the furnace went on, great. Thank you again. I have to replace my 35 years old Programmable Robertshaw analog thermostat (battery operated quartz movement).
David, thank you so very much for those simple trouble shooting checks. If I was to live in Florida you will certainly be the person I will call for HVAC help or replacement. I appreciate your honesty Sir, blessings from Texas.
Nice video, nice explanation. I think the one thing I was looking for was missing. Please confirm: For Heat: Red Yellow and Green together. For Cool: Add Orange to that.
Yes thanks. I have a simple AC unit and oil heater with the 1971 era round Honeywell thermostat that won’t go below 55 in a house I just need to keep the pipes from freezing. Burnt 165 gallons last year at 55 deg. And yes, the older widow folks need help. I know enough to be dangerous and one winter when oil lines were freezing/ resets tripping, I kept busy in the community. They have no $.
Great information. I was able to rule out my thermostat as the problem. Tied the wires together to make my cooling system fire on and was able to determine that it was the main capacitor for my AC unit. $15 fix.
Yeah but if you're going to operate cold mode how can you tie in the same three wires that operates heat wouldn't you have to throw Orange in there to flip the reversing valve
Excellent work and would say very detailed explanation for DIY home owners. Can see real honesty..... David thanks for saving us from crook technician s
I’m trying to join the hvac industry and this helps a lot simply put together for me to understand without trying to go crazy into hvac terms thanks I agree picture save you also looking up what the wire & letter means cause it might not be the same color wire thanks
GREAT Video! I don't know if someone else said this! HOWEVER, at 6:19 "For Cooling" IF the system has a "Reversing Valve" Wire Color Orange (labeled "O") you need to add that wire also together with the "Yellow, Green, and Red" If not the system will work but blow out warm air due to the "Reversing Valve" not activating. So for "COOLING" twist together the "Yellow, Green, Orange and Red".
David hi tanks for your video. I was wondering if u could help me. I tried to upgrade my thermostat to to smart one and can't remember what G wires to hook up. I shld have took pictures.
Just want to start off by saying thank you very informative video. David I have a intertherm unit and my blower motor intermittently will not come on the unit is only 2 years old. I’m also getting an code for BMF and the thermostat has a flashing snow flake. If I flip the breaker off and let my board reset then turn it back on it will start working again. Any ideas on what could be causing the issue?
I did not even finish the video yet. I had to go leave a comment. This video is what people need. Thank you

You are not lying about that!!!!
What color does the green wire go to on an ac unit

Finally a video that I can watch right side up in Australia.
The video is upside down... and it's still super helpful!
This guy is the best! He explains EVERYTHING. He's the first one I've found that goes through trouble shooting. Glad to have him out there.
You're right! It's not complicated! I just needed it explained clearly! Thank you so much - first time home owner, strapped for cash, and now the master of my HVAC system!

I am 3 months in to the a.c trade learning to become better at my job thank you so much I will learn and apply this thank you Mr jones
He does a good job of explaining the details that many other videos did not share. It is easy to troubleshoot.
Great Video. It is nice to know that so many viewers picked up on the "Missing Orange Wire" in the cooling section. I take it that most unit's reversing valves come in the "Heat Position." Just trying to learn a little bit about the workings of a heat/cooling pump. FR
That is what I am looking for. He used the same wires for heat pump and Cool
Great video. The only 1 I could find that explained the orange wire and the "O" on the mounting plate. Thanks
Amazing! I love folks that share their expertise and speak my language!
Man I wish I had found this channel years ago. My hat goes out to you David.

This is a great video that demystifies what even some HVAC technicians consider "complicated.
I was freezing cold in my house trying to get my thermostat to work. This video got my thermostat working again! Thanks for educating me!

Very helpful Thank you So much was 95 today and very hot in my home After connecting the 3 wires (R, Y, G) the system finally works
Omgosh I super appreciate you taking the time to explain all of the wires and processes!
Best vid I have seen. Wish you had mentioned Rheem and Ruud and where to connect reversing valve wire (normally orange) since their reversing valve works backwards from other mfg.
