@@mem10fan2 You don't really know much about Halloween. You thought no further than the strange custom of having your children wear masks and go out begging for candy! It was the start of the year in our old Celtic lands and we be waiting, in our houses of wattles and clay. The barriers would be down you see, between the real and the unreal. The dead might be looking in to sit by our fires and turf. Halloween, the festival of Samhain, the last one took place 3000 years ago. It was a part of our world, our craft. To us it was a way of controlling our environment. Not so much different now, it's time again. In the end, we don't decide these things you know? The planets do. Their in alignment and it's time again. The world changes on that night and I'm glad you'll be able to watch it! And...…Happy Halloween.

Yes he did - once I think. He said 'they went around house to house asking for 'candy and food'. I was a child in the 50's, and my parents in the 20's. I never heard of 'asking for candy OR food'. All we said was 'Trick or Treat', and people would hand us 'a treat' usually of candy or popcorn or fruit. We didn't ask for anything! We thought it was great that just saying 'Trick or Treat' got you 'free candy!' And then we'd take it home and see what we got. And that was Halloween for us! Just fun and free candy.

...but god knows intent. Holidays have been moved around thousands of years ago. Halloween has different meanings just like Christmas does to the satanists. The will constantly pray on all days. Halloween isn’t celebrated like it was. We don’t do it with devilish intent or even practice it as they did. We do it completely different and it has a different modern meaning. GOD KNOWS INTENT. Don’t let people fear monger you and play on your weakness. I walk through life and fear no evil. • @cherylmiller9447

whatever... a lot of 'facts' given are just 'opinions' offered. He doesn't offer any credentials. He says that in 1950 'a group of kids in Philadelphia' 'firmed up' the practice (of 'trick or treat') by going around collecting money for UNICEF, which culminated in 1965 of getting an award from UNICEF for all the $$$ raised in this way, just 1 day a year! I grew up in the 50's, and NEVER EVER did I ever hear of 'doing it to give money to UNICEF'. He says children went around door to door 'asking for money or food' - we NEVER did that! And this was a 'tradition' that our parents had had in their childhoods - not beginning only in the 50's. In the 50's and 60's we never said anything but 'Trick or Treat', and never got anything but candy or apples! If this was done in Philadelphia - so what? It wasn't done in Ohio, Arizona or California where I lived at that time! And I have never before ever HEARD of this going on - and I was in Girl Scouts who raised money for Polio. So it seems we WOULD have been interested in doing this if it presented itself - but it didn't. Other things he says are pretty flimsey. He DOES START where Halloween probably started - with the Celts in England, Scotland and Ireland - who then emigrated to the U.S. in the 1600-1900's. But while he talks about 'All Hallows Eve and All Saints Day' - he NEVER explains how these names came about! and just talks around them in connection to Halloween, but never gives the right information. All Saints Day was commemorated for a terrible murder of Christians/Jews (probably in England) that was 'remembered' every year after. The '...Eve' was named for those who had participated who 'feared' that the 'spirits' of those murdered would 'come back' and 'do evil' to them, and it was believed that there were 'things' they could do to 'ward off' those 'spirits' to keep them safe. Thus the 'jack-o-lantern' with evil faces carved in them, and a candle to light them up, was used for this absurd superstitious purpose and practice. It all goes hand-in-hand with the blight of 'murdering Christians and Jews', and trying to eliminate them from the Earth! To leave this OUT of an explanation for Halloween's beginnings is just as absurd. If he's going to explain it, then explain it, and stop tiptoeing around the real facts! If you read this, it's interesting as a 'starting place', but he's not really giving much real information, and a lot of fiction (unless there is some part of Philadelphia that makes his statements true for him). Maybe he was one of those who tricked for UNICEF in Philadelphia, but these pictures he shows look a lot older than the 50's, and as a child, I never saw kids dressed up like them. We didn't have 'bought costumes' like they have now. And there were only Disney characters in the late 50's. We were lucky if we could find a little 'mask' to wear. In Ohio, it was not 'scary' at all, but only 'fun and happy', and we all went to the only school auditorium in our costumes to have a 'parade' around the gym floor, and see who would 'win the prize for the best costume'. I even won one of them when at age 3 my mother dressed me in a long dress and a sandwich board that read 'Here Comes the Bride' in the front, and 'Big, Fat, and Wide' in the back! Other years I dressed as a 'Little Dutch Girl' with a white apron over a baby blue dress and real Dutch wooden shoes! Our carved pumpkins had happy smiles. These were our ideas of Halloween then. Only much later (after the 60's) did it all change to something scary and evil and sinister and about 'death'. Maybe in other places than places I lived it did, but we never heard of it being like that. It was just a 'fun' thing to do, and we got candy, which we never got at home! So I believe things did change a lot from the 60's to the 70's, just not in the ways he describes. But in the 70's was when we learned what Halloween derived its beginnings from, and our family started to reject it as anything we wanted to be a part of anymore.
