  • Discover the true story behind Samhain, Celtic fire festival that became a worldwide celebration. But don't expect it to be all Ghosts and Ghouls. Two thousand years of cultural and religious traditions have transformed it into something its original participants would barely recognize. This the true history of Halloween!

"Young men painted their faces and went to villages for mischief"
That is oddly similar to an old obscure tradition in Black Sea.At the day of kalandar (January 13th) children painted their faces black with ash and knocked doors saying:
"Karakoncolos, Karakoncolos has came to your door, has saluted your house. If you don't take his salute, he will shit on your door."
If they open the door children hit them with a piece of wood and run if they don't they would shat on the door as they said.

I find it interesting that cultures on opposite ends of the earth would have similar festivals. For example, Southeast Asia observes Ghost Festival/Month or a variation of it (like Japan's Bon Festival).

Celtic Holiday Samhain the night where we celebrate our ancestors, the season, and each other for the winter to come. A time for friendship, grateful for the harvest and celebrating.

In my case, the spiderwebs on my bushes are all natural. One of the things I do on a weekly basis is check what spiders are populating those bushes. I do this because I once found a black widow spider on a bush in my front lawn and I noped the hell out of there, grabbed my tools, cut the branch it was sitting on, sprayed it with insecticide, and set it on fire. Since I live down the street from a police station, a police car saw me do all of that and asked me why I was setting a branch on fire. I pointed to the burning carcass of the black widow with its still noticeable red hourglass mark and said "black widow spider." The officer said "oh", turned around and quickly walked back to his car.
