Thank you for sharing! Sounds like you agree they are great boots. Have you ever had Red Wing? I have, and the Golden Fox are SOOOOO much MORE comfortable. And other than software leather (which I like), the Golden Fox seem to be the exact same construction, just with different material inside for heal support, vamp lining, etc.

Yea, iv had redwings. I like them. There a little better quality then the golden fox. But I agree that the golden fox are far more comfortable initially and for the price, the golden fox are much better boots. I have thorogoods right now, and I prefer to wear my goldenfox boots and wear them more often then the thorogoods.

@@ianmccoy9475 That is a great testimonial on behalf of Golden Fox, because Thorogood are thought to be one of the top Red Wing alternatives. I think the Golden Fox are just as comfortable if not more, and the construction is cleaner and more attractive. As for Red Wing, I think they cost more to manufacture due to materials, so naturally they cost more, and people might prefer them if they like really stiff leather that feels like saddle leather, but most people prefer soft oil tanned leather I find.

    Is this waterproof?

No, these are traditional moc toe work boats with no lining. On the inside, you see the suede side of the same leather you see on the outside.

Hey man thanks for the detailed objective review. I have been looking for the best deal and have landed on golden fox as a likely choice. Either the moctoe you have or the boondocker. have you looked at the SL Saint waterproof, or the kelodon and HISEA and SUREWAY. Some of these chinese brands are just random letters put together liek "smatch" or lasting pinnip, or aegiswarm. but i digress. I just can't see myself having to reply "rock Rooster" when asked about my footwear. Golden fox is definitely better in name even though before your vid I thought they were a chinese brand.
So are you still satisfied with them at this point? Have you looked into the wolverine or Taft 365 M002? they look a lot like the redwings and they were $199 when I first came across them and today I found some for $79 . Tafts regular line (not the 365line ) have pretty solid great reviews , I'm not sure if the M002 was severely overpriced or if the $79 would be a steal. I don't think it has a GYW, but they look like they do , which was a good point you made that compamies will use a fake stitch. or welt. But i'm unfortunately unemployed right now so its even more imperative I get the best bang for my bucks.

I can't recommend any of those other brands you mentioned. If you read the reviews, there are a lot of complaints about them coming apart, either the stitching or the soles. This is typical of companies who are trying to copycat the veterans but don't have the track record to know how to make a boot that last. Some of them, if you look closely in their product photos, you can see stitching that looks like soft white cotton thread. Whatever it is, it doesn't look durable. Here's my take… Either go with a "heritage" boot from an established brand with leather welt so you know you're getting a REAL boot, or go modern. And if you go modern, you can't beat Timberland Pro (amzn.to/4dmU1iB) or Keen (amzn.to/3y6LQXL). Both are great for comfort, durability, and style.
