- On this episode we are finally in one of our most wanted to visit places, Chagos, it has a lot of history and 2,000 people lived here until in late 60' the British evicted the Chagossians to Mauritius for the US Navy to build a military base in Diego Garcia. We visited the Salomon atol which with Peros Banhos are the only 2 atolls that sailors can stop on passage in the Indian Ocean.
It is truly paradise with incredible wild marine life. Definitely one of our highlights of this circumnavigation, absolutely loved it.

So beautiful and uninhabited, it is paradise! What an interesting and dark history, of the western footprint on Pacific cultures. When you cooked the fish on the fire made with palm trees, it might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!

IN 1975 I had it to myself. The beach and lived in a PLYWOOD shanty.
Chagos Islands is a very upsetting subject because the Indian Ocean is where the slave trade took place.
I'm not sure why UK and America tell this story about West African slavery that did not really occur.
The African slaves were described as being the Pagans (Nword, Tri Racial Aboriginals, Blacks).
Also, the Dutch documented that they ordered the enslavement of Pagans and not Africans because they were highly diverse of all colors (Coloreds).
At the time Austronesians were called Senegalese but they are 100% Indians.
Hence the reason why the words Mother, Indien, Mor, Black, N word, Pagans... Are all the same words in various Proto Indo languages.

How did you get permission to get onto an off limits archipelago when local natives aren’t allowed back?
Hello, all sailors can stop for maximum 4 weeks in some archipelagos ( not the one with the military base) with a strong assurance for the boat. It's only to rest in transit because the Indian ocean is strong and long for sailors but we are not allowed to stay of course... 😉
Chagos archipelago not only museum of marine species but also island paradise.
But beyond this, so many evidences of 10 thousand old Indian civilization could find also there .

indians never reached thar far they were busy shitting on cows. Maldivians reached the islands when they were swept up out at sea. Europeans first settled it. It belongs the UK and the English should settle there.
I was there in 1980 on a 9 month deployment From Norfolk VA through the medeterian sea stopped in Alexandria Egypt saw the pyramids of Giza went through the Suez Canal on our way there for the Summer on the way back to Norfolk we had stopped in Athen's, Greece & Rota, Spain on our way back to the USofA interesting year working on the ship in the harbor and in those days we took a boat from the ship to the island for liberty whenever we we given liberty.

When the United States forcibly and violently removed the Chagossian People out of their country, not only did they give them no compensation or secure them any housing, but they slaughtered all pets. They threw over a thousand pets into furnaces and gas chambers.

First time I am hearing about this island and god its beautiful 😍...but dont think we can travel to the island. Do let me know if we can please.I am not a sailor, so will prefer flight or ferry 😅 Dont think there is any ferry though, distance from Maldives is 1200 kms

with a permit, you can. Diego Garcia is only for U.S. military personnel.

Yes you do, there is a paper work process which includes insurance papers to be shown with few requirements..take your time if you head that way
