[Eng Sub] Yu-Peng Chen sang the Liyue OST!! "Moon in a Cup" with lyrics
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 окт 2024
- 一杯月 (Moon in a Cup) was written by Yu-Peng Chen and sang by Yu-Peng Chen and Yin Lin in 2018.
The chorus of this song is used as the main melody in many of the Liyue OST that we are now familiar with, including "Moon in One's Cup", "Maiden's Longing".

Some tidbits on Chinese classical literature, for those interested!
This song actually references a HUGE amount of Chinese poems and proses. Literally every other line. What a chad, this composer. Here are some examples:
1. The first line of the song's chorus "I look up at the a bright moon above.." half-quotes the poem 静夜思 (Jing Ye Si, "Musings on a silent night") by Li Bai, which goes "I look up at a bright moon, I look down and I miss my hometown".
2. The line after ("The phases of the moon..."), if literally translated, should be something like "the moon can be full, waning, bright or dark, all in a constant cycle, but our happiness, sadness, meetings and partings are inconstant." This quotes ANOTHER famous poem 水调歌头.明月几时有 (Ming Yue Ji Shi You, "When does the bright moon appear"), which goes "The moon has its many phases, full, waning, bright or dark, while humans have their many emotions of happiness, sadness, meetings and partings."
This is but 2 out of the MANY works of Chinese literature that this song referenced. And since this song sings about the moon, many of the quoted poems are, as you see, moon-themed as well. Words cannot express how beautiful I find these lyrics, and my translations cannot hold a light to how good and poetic the original is, but I hope this video can let non-Chinese speakers appreciate this song as well~ Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for your translations! I think you did a fantastic job, considering that I'm in near tears from the beauty of this song and the bittersweet meaning of these lyrics. 💕💕💕💕

Idk why, but all of a sudden, I can kinda imagine Yu-peng Chen as a normal human being. He always looked like a Music God to me before this.
But this is a Normal Song with Chinese instruments and also realising Yu-peng Chen also just took melodies from his own previous works is kinda giving me a grounded feeling
Its a very nice thing to feel like these people such as Yu peng chen to feel like a part of us.

The poetic nature of this song lyrics makes me think of Zhongli so much. Osmanthus, Inn, Moon, Dust, Memories, Wishing someone would come back, etc. It's screaming by-gone era of Liyue and also reminds me of specifically Guizhong and Zhongli. Maybe it's because I tie her to seelies and moon sisters a lot and Zhongli may or may not be a sun god like Deshret and Remus. But other than that, why is this SOOOOOOO good and yet hurts me? Lol
I honestly got into genshin impact bc of the beautiful soundtrack, Yu-Peng Chen is truly talented and gifted

Oh man I've been looking for this song for weeks now. And because I couldn't read CN characters I couldn't find it again after hearing it once.. I was so surprised to hear there were lyrics again. I was like "why does this sound so familiar" and then I realise it's that one Liyue song from Genshin. Thank you for posting

Those first memories and amazements I've got when i first stepped into Liyue are now flashing back... i could remember me and my friends, visiting around market place whenever Lantern Festival arrives (coming this year will be our third year and I'm looking forward to it) ... Zhong Li's story is also one of my most favorites and I dearly adore him. Zhongli and Guizhong will always have special place in my heart. I would like to see this song in the game if there is ending to Liyue's quest or end of Archon quest. Or maybe, Guizhong and Zhongli together with their adepti kids... :')

Is this song referencing that old chinese story about the lunar festival? Basically a guy’s lover accidentally eats some magical food and loses her weight, floating to the moon. Now the guy is left on earth to remember her and try to bring her back.
Chang'e (the moon goddess) and HouYi (the archer that shoot down the sun)?
