I have a request. Could you do a lesson for "Tennessee Flat Top Box" by Johnny Cash? I tabbed out the original on the Ring of Fire album for myself, but I would like to hear your input and chord progression please. This channel has taught me so much, and I hope to continue learning from you. :)
@@genustinca5565 but I wonder who did Hendrix take it from? Who inspired him? It couldn’t just be from muddy waters and the famous Chicago bluesmen. He got a delta jazz swing to his playing
my guitar friend in 1968 said"you take that A minor scale yer playing & move it down 3 frets & it's a happy A", so i did. "now learn it all over the neck & hammer on/pull off 2 notes like this..." a few weeks later he showed me Mike Bloomfield riffing from the chord you're on,so i did.i never knew any names for what we played, now i do.We had dropped the needle endlessly & destroyed many records learning new stuff,Marty i'm happy you're teaching this all & i commend you!
These chord embellishment videos are great, I've been really trying to add this to my skillset so I can better improv/spice up my chord progressions. Would love to see more like this and videos mixing in licks with chords.
The piece you play at about the 4minute mark, outstanding. The boxes are simple, but you keep the timing with the progression perfectly and that’s what stands out to me. Needing to be able to get that timing down. Thanks Marty!
This actually helped me with RHCP. Frusciante is a master of these embellishments and for years I never knew how to do them, I was doing them by sheer accident (Under The Bridge especially)
What an awesome lesson. I've been playing for years and this helped me fill in some gaps. You made it so incredibly easy. You are the man, Marty! I have learned a lot from you over the years that helped complement my playing. Thank you, sir, for what you do!
A fender telecaster, probably set to both the lipstick and the bridge pickup, played through a fender twin reverb on a cleanish channel with a little gain. I bet the tone knob on the tele is about 3/4 turned. Of course, I'm just guessing.
@Lennon Tyner.... Marty launched the channel playing predominantly on a Divided By 13 amplifier (there was Mesa Boogie also in the very early days). Currently he has an endorsement with Boss Katana, but since it’s not on screen I suspect this is the Divided By 13. His favorite dirt pedal is a Fulltone OCD.... think that’s what we are hearing. Of course I could be completely wrong.
Marty, I just wanted to say I appreciate so much, you’ve taught me so much about guitar for YEARS!!!!! Because of you I have the tools to have a style of my own and hopefully will get back on tour when COVID is over, but anyways you’ve blessed me tons, thank you sir
Marty, I love your videos! This is incredibly helpful. You took me from watching tutorials and copying off of them to having my own sound and vibe! keep it up.
i think this video shows that you are likely in the top 500 living guitar players in the world, especially when it comes to this style of psychedelic blues. i hope to play as well as you.
MARTYYYY WE LOVE YOU MANNN! WE LEARNED A LOT FROM YOU THANKS A LOT WE ARE HAPPY TO HAVE YOU WİTH US AS A TEACHER! MUCH LOVE FROM YOUR 15 YEAR OLD STUDENT MR MARTY!
What do you call those three-string “embellishments” that use a hammer-on over the three strings, but only hammering-on one note out of the three you’re strumming? Example: around the 3:00 to 3:10 mark… Hope this makes sense! I’ve been looking for what this “lick” is called, but no luck… Thanks Marty! ✌🏼
Idk what you’re feeding that thing but your ring finger is a champ. A bit off topic but can you please give us a lesson for Hey Gypsy Boy? It would be awesome to watch you break that one down.
I really appreciate your tremendous support! I also have FREE courses at my site www.martymusic.com

@@eminemcopier5941 YES I love that song and I love Johnny. That was the first song I ever learned on guitar
@@o_smith4106 It really is a great song, I just can't find any tabs for the original recording. They seem based on live performances.
you are the DOG!
Very insightful video, thank you!
Don’t forget to mention the unsung hero, Frusciante!
They all just took it from Hendrix
His entire style is a Hendrix rip
And Mike Mcready and Stone Gossard Of Pearl Jam especially Mcready

@@OriginalKingRichTv I thought the exact same thing; If you wanna be hardcore, study who Hendrix studied 😁

Hendrix and Mayer used chords is so many tasteful sounding ways! Two guitar heroes for sure!

Wow! I really love this lesson. I had a lightbulb moment. Thank you Marty!
Thanks Marty. Making my guitar sound just a little bit like Hendrix is soo cool. Cheers bro

Great explanation of Hendrix chord styles
This is incredibly simple to get the basics, thanks for really spelling it out. Very easy to understand
The tone in this video is second to none, what’s your rig?

Just got a Tele is that bad

FRUSCIANTE!!!!!! I feel this guy has to be mentioned.
you're right, my title meant from hendrix all the way to john mayer but Frusciante is the MAN

A Telecaster isn't what I would have chosen for a video about Jimi Hendrix or John Mayer, buy it sounds great!
Thanks Marty, some vids on combing major & minor pentatonic, please.
