I went through a lot to apply for student loan last year. A LOT. Then when I saw some scholarships requesting all these things I felt so disheartened.
Question: how can a person like me get scholarships (besides essay competitions, which I usually ace). I don't have lots of references and the ones I do have aren't much (a JP is one, he is great) and I don't have any community involvement, especially since I'm doing school online. Should I join some online clubs? Does that count (I sorta think so since tht shows you put out the effort to be involved) but what do you think?
You can also use a teacher or lecturer for your reference. Also if you have previous community service prior to the pandemic that should help.
@@samoyacochrane I asked a Lecturer this morning and this was the response: "Yes but I don't know you. I have never seen your face. I know nothing about you."
You know shame? Maybe I'll just hang my basket where I can reach it and apply to only essay competitions. It's not much but it's better than kissing feet just to get a letter. I'll also try with my other teachers but meh
@@swisdom9117 it can be difficult especially now with classes online. When I used to do face to face school I would usually visit office hours so my lecturers could get familiar with me. I would also try to participate in class and ask question.
It's very hard to get around these things.

Hey I know this is a dumb question but have you ever been rejected from a scholarship before? That seems unlikely since you have many leadership roles + voluntary service. I just got rejected from the bglc grant (I put my heart into it; of the 350 applicants, why wasn't I good enough to be chosen? I've been feeling like shit for the whole day). I have another interview Thursday but there's only 4 recipients and while I was (and still am) super pumped for that, a part of me is just saying Im just getting my hopes up for nothing.

Yes I have been rejected from scholarship before. I know the feeling but don’t let that get you down. Focus on what is to come. So go in that interview and put best foot forward. What’s in the past let it stay there. There’s a saying that says delayed but not denied. All the best!

Hey, what is slb cancelation for policy? When you got those scholarships you just called and canceled? Or did u hv to go in branch?
I’m not sure what they’re cancellation policy is. I didn’t submit the required documents so I just stopped. You may have to call if you’re interested in knowing how it works
What university did you apply in America?
St. John’s University, Arcadia University, Bentley and there should be a next one but Im not remembering. Those are the ones I got into. I applied to an Ivy League but I didn’t get in
