Vanessa, have been a silent follower ever since you first started your channel and it’s been inspiring to see you grow. Thought you always had great tips but I find you so much more personable, relatable and authentic than ever before. You seem so much happier too!! ☺️Whenever I watch your vids now and behold your transformation, I think of a comment someone left on one of my videos the other day: “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” (Carl Jung). Keep doing you, girl!!
These tips are helpful! I am grateful for the 40 subscribers who believe in my content during these early stages as I begin my content creation journey, however I aim to try to improve one video at a time to increase higher quality content over time. The first step is to improve my scripting. Thank you for sharing this valuable information!
This is crazy! I do literally everything you're doing here with some changes - I edit the script by watching back rather than reading, I repeat the same phrases to get it right / get what I want. I also edit bits in later, and - wait for it - I even have the same comfort pose with the SAME leg underneath me 😂 ❤
Following along with your content has been super helpful! I’ve been working hard on my travel channel and recently hit 471 subscribers. It’s exciting to grow alongside such talented creators! Excited to keep growing with this community!
This is so recognisable, sometimes I stumble on one specific sentence for so long! English is not my first language ;) Filming in bulks and embedding extra footage is a great tip!
Can I just say I appreciate your newer videos so much. Even though beginners can watch them they’re also helpful for people mid way through their RUclips journey like me.
I’m finally getting back into RUclips because of the pure fun in creating! And I loved the part from the interview where “it’s all about YOU being happy” and not what everyone else things, as well as the “how I do..” vs “how to..”. So many good tips!! Thanks
Uhhh! Yes! “FILM IN CHUNKS” is a thing!! 😂 i kept driving myself crazy with trying to get my script reading along with how natural I look on camera down perfectly, all in one take! 🤦🏾♂️ what a dumb approach. As a result never getting one video done! Thanks for this!
Vanessa, you are onto something huge, girl. I’ve been following you for a few years and I’d get burned out just WATCHING your videos. You are leading a massive movement now with this new chapter on detaching from outcomes and results, and putting art out there just because. I’m so enjoying your videos now!
This is perfect timing! Making the switch to long-form content and had a ton of trouble feeling comfortable getting my point across on camera. This video literally answered all the questions I had about scripting/talking on camera!
Thanks Vanessa for making this video! Something that I struggle with as a content creator is putting pressure on myself to get my videos done at all costs. This has often lead to me getting exhausted. After watching this video I have learned that if I am struggling to get a video done I should either take a break and then try again to get it done later that day or another day. Thanks again Vanessa!
I appreciate you, too, Vanessa. I started my journey lately, and I just want to be me with no filters. Emotional independence (no fear of judgment) is the key to sharing my journey with the world. I can tell when I am being authentic as the emotional state feels so grounded and I enjoy the time talking about the stories. I'm looking forward to the video editing episode.
Wow that's crazy. I've been thinking about how I should just empty my schedule a week before my period. I thought it could be a bit ridiculous I'm so glad someone else has been already implementing it!
This is so real and I truly appreciate the honesty in this particular video. I relate so much to a lot of the things you've mentioned like the stuttering and the low energy the week before my period (which I didn't realize was a thing and now will plan around my cycle!) I was feeling down thinking I wasn't made to do this, but knowing you too have similar struggles as me, I'm motivated to keep trying! Thank you so much for this series, it's really helpful in so many ways =)! Keep em coming!
Girl this video is a GEMMMMMMMM!!! I'm so glad you are sharing the detailed process of filming videos. I hope creators really take the time to watch and process everything you shared today because you broke it down perfectly! I'm on a RUclips break at the moment but I am looking to transition out of "how to" and do more "How I" Content. I also like that you showed your different filming locations being in the same room but in different spots because that's something I wont to play around with for my future videos as well. Thanks girly!
When you mention masking, it reminds me of how much I mask in my day to day life as someone on the spectrum and high level ADHD. Recording and creating content helps me be more true to myself (I like to call it being unhinged because I’m perpetually “hinged” with a filter or persona for my day to day life with everyone I interact with just to be socially accepted). I’ve found being on camera with no one around makes me feel more comfortable to be my outspoken self and people being more receptive about my actual silly self without worries of coming off “rude” or impulsive or being told “You can’t really say that. Why don’t you act like everyone else? Why are you acting so different? We like the old you.” Granted, yes I’m still in a “performance mode” so it isn’t my 100% true self because I’m giving a bit more energy than I normally do but it’s in a way that’s more aligned to my true self and helping me be more outspoken and speak louder and clearer instead of mumbling or speaking too softly or speaking too gravelly lol it feels like being on stage but for people wanting to see my actual personality and what I have to say. So I can still be myself, just more outspoken and louder and dynamic so people can actually see and hear the actual me. Sorry for the tangent, but you seem very relatable and the few videos I’ve seen from you are very helpful and authentic!
We had/have a travel YT channel and filming is definitely draining. It was a main problem when needing to take out the camera all the time. I've come to realize that vlogging isn't for me...I especially don't like pulling out the camera during vulnerable moments. It was a good lesson for me.
Another great video! I’m a new creator and I’ve been putting pressure on myself to get my talking head off in one or limited takes but to see even you are making cuts and showing yourself grace helps me TREMENDOUSLY!! Thank you!! The DJI pocket 3 is also my favorite, I’ve been using it for my mansion tours and people think that I’m using some huge heavy pro camera, lol. Thanks again for being real! 🤗
I really like this new and improved Vanessa. I feel you are more relatable which I kinda knew that already but your last few videos have confirmed this tremendously. I’m pretty sure we were soul sisters. ❤
What I love most about this is the inside-out focus. Meaning, while you're giving tips based on your personal experiences, you're maintaining the message to the viewer of finding what works best for them based on personal factors, such as comfort and personal skills/knowledge. ❤🙌🏾 It's clear you have a ton of experience on this topic with the wide range of tips provided. I'm interested in the DJI Osmo Pocket for a series that I have where it's more of a casual talking head video. I've been using my iPhone on a mobile device stand, but the problem with this setup is it's not adjustable and it has a tilt, so I have to creatively use folded pieces of paper to get the angle right. It works, but can be frustrating in terms of consistency. The only thing I would need to do with the DJI is figure out how to sync it with my XLR mic. Shouldn't be too hard for me because I love the tech side of being a digital creator. haha
Heyo (: Idk if you already thought about that, but when studying Film & Motion Design in uni, we learned to clap your hands/snap fingers right after starting recording a new take on the camera and microphone (that's what the clapperboard in movie production is for btw). That way you can look at the audio wave of the microphone audio and video audio and see where it spikes, so you can align them. I find it makes syncing audio + video from two different sources super easy! Hope that helps (:
I absolutely love your content! I loved your content before your sabbatical but I love your new era even more ❤️ thank you for being so honest and so open to educate others!
"How I vs How To"...like that a lot. Equipment...I really hate the trend of 'holding' the wireless mic that a lot of people are doing, lol. It draws my eye from their face especially if they move it around. Fabulous tips!
Indeed! Thank you for sharing! I noticed these things too! The goal is to create cinematic shots while giving natural, relaxed and “real you” content.🍻
This is super helpful Vanessa. I've been following you for past few years and was part of your Bossgram academy. Love seeing you being so raw and authentic. Could you please do any video on color grading your videos if you as it does look soft aesthetic.
Can I share an exercise that might help with flubs or messing up words? What I do is challenge myself to film at least one video a month where I just talk without a script and don’t edit anything. I use an outline with bullet points and simply riff. This actually helps a lot because, instead of worrying about, ‘Oh no, I said that wrong,’ or ‘Guess I’ll have to edit that out,’ I focus solely on creating the content. For me, it reduces my anxiety about misspeaking or thinking, ‘Wow, this is going to take forever to edit.’ That's just how I do things. That said, it does help knowing that if I say something REALLY bad, I can always just edit it out. Great video, Coach.
craaazy great video! I always have a script lol i try to put some ingredients of myself in there so I don't feel as "robotic" even though it's my own script. It's hard to remember 3 pages worth of technical stuff lol
Ok my takeaways: So filming feels easier when its more authentic. I love filming in sections, or as I say sequences. As far as gear, Steven Spielberg shot "E.T." on an Arriflex 35 BL... but that's not why I cried. Your camera is just a pen. What matters is the story you write with it. And I love the energy elements! So important. You are giving yourself to people, so it will be tiring. What I gathered from the video. Filming comfortably isn’t just about the camera-it’s about finding your flow. While everyone thinks being good on camera is about looking polished, the real secret is feeling natural and connecting authentically. It’s less about “performing” and more about showing up as yourself. Connection over perfection. For me, I like to pretend I am talking to ONE PERSON. Like, my protege. One person in mind when I film, or film for others. But ultimately, authenticity isn’t an act. It’s a flow. Thanks so much for the video. Always giving so much value. As you. Keep em coming!
I haven't been able to film bcuz I stumble, and I end up thinking I'm not good enough for making videos and I give up. Instead of relying on the editing process, I have been putting too much pressure on my own self to remember everything and speak perfectly.
I love these series and the personal touch to your videos! So valuable!!! One question about filming. Do you batch film your videos? Because I was thinking exactly the same about how much energy it costs when filming and so many people say, you should batch film but it seems impossible energy wise. Especially if I’m filming a longer video.

Hi Vanessa 👋🏻 Thank you for making these videos that help us new creators, it is greatly appreciated. My favorite part is where to describe how you work with your prepared script to film your actual video. Thank you for this wealth of information.
Vanessa im just like you lol, that's exactly what works for me having the script on my phone and looking at the main points and film in chunks.
Thank you for sharing these! 💃
Vanessa, have been a silent follower ever since you first started your channel and it’s been inspiring to see you grow. Thank you for handy tips. I gonna make some unboxing videos and your video is really fascinating.

Omg I just started, and can relate so much. The more I post the more I’m feeling more comfortable
Love this SERIES approach! It's like I'm waiting for new episodes like I did from my fav TV show. Love you, Vanessa!
P.S. Adore your bangs!

This series has been so helpful.
you are an answered prayer. literally. ty.
I purchased the notion template and it is awesome.
if you ever offer a mentorship or coaching, I'm in.
You said a mouthful if I don’t really feel comfortable on the topic and it’s forced production time is way longer! Because I’m not flowing naturally
Thank you so much for this video Vanessa. It’s very helpful, especially about understanding women’s cycle and how it affects how we work as women.
Embedding- is the Takeaway adding words you forget to say Ang being comfortable to show up naturally 😊
Thank you for sharing this, Vanessa 😊 it was really helpful! 🌻
So true!
damn, that's a lot of truth bombs in there! helping me a lot and releasing so much pressure! thanks a lot!!
Great to have you back!!!!
love this!!!
Love Vanessa Lau!!
This was SO helpful girl pls don’t stop:,)

You're the only one I know who's using Descript as a big content creator. I love Descript!
Love your videos!!! Soaking up all your tips. I need this!!!
LOVE THIS .. I need to shake that performance persona on YT!! though the tips around comfort were so helpful !! 😊✨
craaazy great video! I always have a script lol i try to put some ingredients of myself in there so I don't feel as "robotic" even though it's my own script. It's hard to remember 3 pages worth of technical stuff lol

I needed this Thanks Vanessa! I do feel like i was acting alot after my video ends even if it makes good views. Feels tiring
AND really important. Look good. it's the final step to film youtube videos.
And a really GOOD Vocal/Voice= automatic Monotize
Thank you so much for this video
So enjoy seeing your vids
I love these series and the personal touch to your videos! So valuable!!!
One question about filming.
Do you batch film your videos? Because I was thinking exactly the same about how much energy it costs when filming and so many people say, you should batch film but it seems impossible energy wise. Especially if I’m filming a longer video.
Another awesome video with great tips from the beautiful Vanessa. I have just finished uploading the first video with me on screen on my channel for tonight. Love 🥰 this video and love ❤️ Vanessa (it is impossible not to love 💗 Vanessa).
Very helpful content
Hi Vanessa 👋🏻 Thank you for making these videos that help us new creators, it is greatly appreciated. Like you, I have the DJI Osmo Pocket 3x and I noticed you had what looks like a magnetic mount attached to it when it was sitting in front of your desktop. 🖥️ I had a look in your gear link but it wasn’t listed, is it new? 🆕
This motivates me to get a camera
wow the "how to" to "how I" is very game changer to me, that make me have a hold different mental before make a video
This is Genius ❤
Well said.
It's funny how I had just finished watching that Rick Rubin video just before clicking on yours. 😂😂😂
Thank you
great content as usual
Great video
At 82 with 52 years as a nonfiction book, article, and marketing writer and editor (pause for breath), I find that the hardest thing I have to do, and the one thing that will put me a step ahead of 99 percent of others is to be able to get on the reader's side. Nobody wants to do this, because it is a lot of work and it takes getting your attention off of yourself. It defines maturity - the ability to relate to realities outside your own. It is just so annoying to watch performers wiggling their tushis, talking loud, assuming an air of authority and superiority, and grimacing with their ball caps worn backward. On the other hand, it is so soothing, relatable, and rewarding to watch people regardless of gender, race, nationality, or age, who are utterly dedicated to helping and able to focus on the matter at hand instead of worrying - exactly as you say - how others might be judging them. We see this everywhere - it's the difference between actors who can forget themselves (the detectives of both genders on "Bosch") and the butt-wigglers on series that I'm too much of a softy to mention. It's Curtis Judd and Alex Knickerbocker's audio channels (Alex has gone quiet) versus others whose affectations make them hard to watch and listen to. Well, I'm guessing that no one will read this, but that's okay - old guys get sufficient pleasure from voicing their thoughts; I'll go drool in the corner now.
Great Video
Hmmm.but i hear so many people say copy and all that ..
These factors are amazing
Nice work
❤❤❤
I like Vanessa 😅
Interesting
First again? Maybe!?
But how do you keep all the shots straight when filming on multiple cameras?
😅 I constantly have brain freezes in front of camera lol
How to vs how I is powerfulllll
You said how I film
Your title of this video.. How to film😂
@@aatiya19 you can post whatever title you want, but the frame in your mind can be How I to release the pressure when filming
She's such a cutie!
5400 iso 🤯😳
“I suggest you change the frame of your video”
*meanwhile literally changes the frame of her video from one camera angle to another*
I see what you did there lol
Telling me ❤about how to leaning make love.
This information is gold! TY 🤍
When I try to be my self, I don't forget what to say, but I still think what to say and my English is kinda slow 🦥
