Reset/Restore Netgear Wireless Router to Factory Default Settings

- How to reset netgear wireless router password login to factory default settings. Hard resetting a netgear router will reset/erase all the configuration settings saved in the router. If you forgot, this will reset the admin and password login to the router and WiFi password. Use a paper clip to press and hold the small (restore factory settings) button for about 7-10 seconds. When you reset or restore factory settings, (BEWARE) the router will go back to the state when it was new out of box, and all settings you entered previously to get setup online are destroyed. Like ISP usernames, ISP passwords, IP addresses, wireless security keys/passwords and so on, All of this information will need to be reconfigured on the router if you do this to troubleshoot it. This video is exact reset directions for the Netgear Wireless Cable Gateway CG3000D model. You should do this before returning it to your IP provider or before selling it or if you are troubleshooting the router.

I have a issue I have a netgear ac 1750 the parental settings will not save due to time zone incorrect, I have so called set it to the right one. But it keeps saying time zone incorrect. on browser, even tried hard reset. Any help would be appreciated
So if I hard reset my router with comcast it will still keep its mac address right. I think that is what comcast uses to give clerance to the router modem

+tiensu1 yes if you reset your router it will take it back to the default password and user login then from there I would log into the router and update the firmware be very careful of flashing the firmware on my router so you don't brick it

Good question, yes any time your having issues you can do a reset but then you have to set things back up like establishing a new login password and user info for the router itself or it defaults back to the default login in info. You will need to set a new WiFi name and password if you reset also. Most of the time the router will pretty much establish itself and connect automatically as far as you provider gos and start working without to much hassle.
We had a interruption in digital service from Cox. Then no WiFi with Netgear router. Could not log in with password on mobile devices. Attempted to change the password. Still could not log in. Would going to Default settings be of any help to restore router? Router corded to computer works as a modem. WiFi does not. Any chance of Netgear being damaged with some sort of power surge with a return to service?

I recently sold a netgear router/modem that i had got from cox about a year ago. i ended up not paying my last bill so but a few months back I payed the amount i owed. According to the guy who bought it off me he was told its locked and can't be hooked up now with his service provider. Is there a way to unlock it to where that person is able to hook the thing up?

well he said the cox representative thats showed to his house to set it up wasn't able to, you think it has to do something with it being both the router and modem? That could be multiple issues. I would start be verifying your internet speeds. Then reset all your stuff modems and routers and start fresh. See if you notice an increase then

ravendfj Not usually. It sets the router back to factory settings. So you should only have to re-configure the router itself. It should start working again automatically depending on if you are setup for DHCP.

Mine has the Power Led Light on Yellow... and all the other lights looks ok, but absolutely cant connect to the router not even by ethernet
your router might be having a firmware issue or a hardware issue then
Mine does not do a full factory reset at ALL. All it does is the equivalent of unplugging it and plugging it back in again.
Must be having other hardware issues then. You could always reinstall the firmware if you want to take it further.

Hi Jamie, Help! Wi-Fi drops out on Netgear CG3000DV2. Rtclk Windows diagnostics Fixes 2 statements A network cable is not plugged in or may be broken and detected problem with wireless adaptor fixed. Cox and netgear say change channel but both want to charge $90 and both say easy fix. Can you help?

Be sure to try in a couple of times this option should work if it does not work there could be a hardware problem with your router or you’re going to need the flash the firmware which means re-install the router firmware to the most up-to-date version that is a little bit more of an advanced procedure so you may have to resort to your manual

I would try this first. so you know that you have it all cleared out and reset. How you set it up will depend a little on your internet provider. Sometimes they just work with a wireless password and sometimes you have to configure them.

No it won’t recover the password but it wipes it out so you need to create it again. You should be able to create the same password that have been using again. If not just create a new one.

I have nighthawk ac2700 - its been great and all of sudden it just sucked yesterday and it’s not acting right, I lag real bad, and connection speeds aren’t the same
I would definitely do a factory reset on it and then also check to make sure it’s running the very most up to date firmware, you will have to look that up on the manufacturer of your routers website to see if you have the latest firmware they should have directions or you can check the owners manual for installation instructions

It’s probably best to unplug everything from the router and then reset it but you’re going to have to reconfigure everything and then plug your laser thing back in so make sure you understand how to do this before you do it because you’re going to have to reconfigure your laser if you’re talking about a laser printer

It might work but it’s not really giving it enough time to really completely reset it. Hold it in longer than that. Most require longer than that.

La Che Green That depends on your level of tech. If you know how to log into it manually using the browser on your computer you can do it that way. Or use the CD to set it up which is easier for some people.

Michael Arellano You might have to call your provider. You might have a static ip address. Sometimes you have to manually configure the device and or router.

Michael Arellano yes there are default IP addresses like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 that you can type into the browser with your router connected with the lan cable to log into it.

Hi this a little off topic but I own this Modem/router and to get it to work on TWC I have to disable IP flood detection which means I have to login to the unit using the MOS/changeme login to get admin rights. The problem is after I reset the unit I cant login to get admin rights (but I can Login the regular way admin/password) so I cant turn off IP flood detection...any suggestion that you or anyone else has would be greatly appreciated.

+JamieWagner Thanks for getting back to me the problem is that there is no setting in the consumer menu to set the login for admin rights (with admin rights you get some additional menu options) I guess I could go to the forums and see if someone would login with MOS/password change ip flood detection and backup there setting and email me the file. Anyway thanks for trying to help.

It restores the router back to default settings so you might have to turn the WiFi back on

You have to log into the router itself from your browser. I’m not sure what kind you have but you need to know the IP address to do it. It’s usually something like 192.168.1.1 but it’s different for some. You could google it for whatever brand of router you have

it doesn't matter, after you get the router all fixed just reboot everything and reconnect to your wifi with your new password.

open cmd, type ipconfig, there where it says Ipv4 Adress, u type that on google and it will transfear u to a site where u can change your name and password of the wifi. I know thats late af, but i just saw this video, surfing throught the comments, hope i could help you ^^

It could be a few different things going on. Can you try and connect the Ethernet cable coming from the router to another computer? To rule out that it is not the router? Because it could be your computer having the issues.
Jamie Wagner Ya I've tried another computer and it didn't work. When I plug in the Ethernet, nothing lights up on the router.
Then it's the router. Try to reset it again. You might need to get a different router if it's giving you issues. Sometimes they will go bad and work intermittently, if that's the case I would replace it. Like if that's why you reset it originally because it was acting up.
