in the end both routers connected with hard wire.Wondering if it can be connected without wires? Your video is excellent, i understood all instructions even though i am not geek.
@@dari7260I needed something to transmit between two buildings outside so I used a "Point to Point Wireless WiFi Bridge" that I bought on Amazon for about $110. It has been very reliable. Uptime is close to 100%. There are several videos on YT about how to setup\use P-to-P Wifi outdoor bridge. As far as indoors, you can configure a Netgear router be a WiFi receiver (Access point), then connect up Ethernet devices (computer, printer, TV, Gaming system) to the Ethernet ports on the back of the router.
Great video... Easy to follow steps... Can you add to netgear routers with the IP address ? I noticed in your video you used two different routers and the IP address are different. I have two netgear routers with the same IP addresses. How can I do this connection? Any help is appreciated . Thanks.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen during my search! Question though: Will the effect Wireless devices connected to router 1? My router and other instructions I find, warn me that the wifi should be disabled on router 1 to avoid issues. The wifi from router 1 does reach the area that router 2 is servicing, but it's about 50% strength at best. Quite often dips to the point is disconnection. Should I do as this video instructs? Or should I set up router 2 as it's own SSID to avoid both router's wifi getting mixed up or whatever?
This is super helpful, however, if you're running multiple APs, how do you tune them so that the signal doesn't crossover/cancel out each other creating dead zones within a house?
What the heck is the point? the ethernet or lan cable has to be connected to both routers, if you unplug it it will not work. The purpose is to have them on opposite sides of the house with out a dam wire.
thanks I set up my network using your video. but something I didn't expect was to find all addresses connected to the my Netgear are Ipv6 which defeats the purpose of using it alongside Open DNS. is there a way to change this?
hi i hope that you are doing fine during this outbreak of corona virus. i have configured my old router gigaset 504 aug to as an access point my new dlink router and it is working successfully however i have forgotten to set up security for WPS2 and it is unsecured while my dlink it is. so any problem or risk on my pc now or network ?
how do you connect it wirelessly? When I configure my routers this only works when its physically wired to the first router. It won't work if its not connected via an ethernet cable.
@Butler I tried that, the routers I'm using won't work at all unless it is wired directly to the first router. what I ended up doing is using a wifi extender that has a ethernet port. connecting that to my main router, then using the ethernet port to plug into the second router to create an access point. works similar to a mesh system. that said, I cannot get the second and 3rd routers to link wirelessly to my main router.
Can somebody help me please! I’m trying to set this up but when i connect to netgear wac104 to my laptop and typ in ipconfig the netgear does not have a Gateway ip so I’m stuck in the setup….
You can use a different ssid and pw for the second router, but you have to ensure you enable Access Point. Once this is done, for best connectivity to whatever device you use, connect to the closest router’s SSID from your network list
Could use help, I followed this setup (happen to have a tp router as main router and netgear router as what I'm using to extend my network) but speedtest show that I get 30mbps less than i should (100mbps). on the main router i hit 100mbps with the same device (smartphone) doing the testing.
The second router looks like the one I have and is supposed to be able to be used without an ethernet cable. I believe you have to set it up as a repeater and not an access point so this is the wrong video to watch. You need to check out something called DD-WRT that when installed will turn a lot of routers into wireless repeaters (if that's the correct term) There are plenty of RUclips videos on how to do this but you need some knowledge on how to do firmware upgrades.
My primary router only is capable of 2.4ghz and the secondary one I’m turning into an access point has 2.4 and 5ghz. Will I still be able to use 5ghz from the access point?
These instructions are misleading, and incorrect in several areas : #1 : The new (AP) router may already be configured with the same gateway IP, in which case it will have to be changed - otherwise, both router and modem-router combo can be "knocked out" - no internet connection. #2: If the modem-router WiFi is to be used, then the (AP) router WiFi must be configured to use different channel frequencies - and better to use different SSID names. #3: DHCP must be disabled on the secondary (AP) router, otherwise there will be random IP assignments to network devices - leading to dropped connections.
Is it possible to set the main router (IP router) in bridge mode and then use the secondary router in AP mode (netgear rax10)? If possible, which router do you have to disable DHCP?
If you want it that way, I’d probably recommend a WiFi extender. Access points are ideally for people who want to run long Ethernet cables from the router to another router on the other side of your house or business so you get better overall coverage. Extenders only take you so far but if you don’t have the wiring or don’t want to wire your home, that’s pretty much all that’s available for now. Or get a better primary router I guess.
Not at all useless - I'm on this video because I want to add a second AP to my network so that I can access wifi all over my house and a third AP to access wifi in my garden. I already have Cat6 wiring to every part of the house, so I might a well use it and have better wifi throughput rather than having a wifi extender or mesh network.
Wired connections are more reliable and stable. A choice of yours. Nowadays newer routers are more capable but at higher costs, mostly reasonably priced.

Thanks, this really helped me to get my speed increased for gaming.
Do you have to use Lan cable to connect the two routers? Or it works individually as well?
@@romitkhandelia3703 yes you need to have two routers connected with lan cable.

Good video. What if someone wanted to create a "Wireless" access point? ie connecting the access point via WiFi. This would create a wireless bridge.
I’m trynna do this as well, have u found anything?

Try using separate channels for each friend 💡🌱😽💨
Could you add a movie how to configure Netgear with Repeating Wireless Function?
Thank you. This is what I needed to know and it worked out great
Thank you. I too wished I saw this long time ago.
a cuestion, both router should at the same chanel? tahks
whats the point of connecting them via an ethernet cable?
What an excellent video. Easy to follow and works perfectly. Thank you.

NightLifeDJs Not all the time... I bought the Netgear XR500 cuz of the geo filter not to have it in another room.
Buy a new router that has wds function. Can't have all for all the times.
You want a wireless bridge, not an access point.
Thank you very much! How critical is having the same IP address?
whenever i try looking the default gateway up in chrome nothing loads it just says i have no connection
Try the flaming fox 🦊
Have you fixed it??
So is the access point wireless or does it have ti remain wired to the router?
it should have to be hardwired from the router to the access point

Depends if you wanna keep giving xfinity an extra 20 bucks a month to rent their eqt
Thanks man👍
No problem 👍
With out hardwire connecting router 1 and router 2 is it possible for wireless functionality.
Good video, on the main router I have to turn off the wifi, right?
Netgear recommends turning off WiFi or use different wireless settings on the first router to avoid interference.
Will the routers be still remain connected if we don't attach lan cable? Then how to two routers without attaching lan cable?
No they dont remain connected without the cable, pretty stupid isnt.
If the second router has eds wireless distribution system function. Newer routers have this design.
Thank you so much for this!
i have a netgear wnbr3400v3 and i dont have that 'wireless acess point' setting. How do i get this setting?
Will the USB Readyshare still work on the Netgear?
I want to disable the wifi on the Netgear cause it's slower than my new eero router
can this tp link router demonstrated in the video be used as an WDS Bridge?
do i still disable dhcp server in the access point one doing it in ap mode

Can I use the LAN ports in the wireless access point to connect other devices with an ethernet cable?
Yes you can

Is your network:
ISP > modem > router 1 > router 2
Or
ISP > modem/router > router 1 > router 2

Wireless access should be disabled on first modem/router - in that way, the AP router will not conflict on SSID's / channels.
