Nope, this is much more interesting then football. At least their body injury and fun involved. I was kinda rooting that guys on the stick to stay. But damn, that one on the right was like. "You shall not take meeee!" Mother fuckers was hanging on their for dear life lol.
Tommy Yeung It isn't radical to here at Japanese elementary, junior high and high schools. A play of the standard athletic games meeting. When it spreads, it's fascinating, isn't it?
not every high school in every country can held a sport like this, a pool of blood is the only thing i can imagine if this was held in my country's highschools
Isn't it interesting to see the difference between Asian and western sports: large teams, no identifying features for the players, no individual scoring whatsoever, either the team wins or the team loses, there's no way to distinguish yourself other than that. I like it, it looks great fun.
FlexibleTerror I don't mean that there is no roles, or even that there is no roles which require the person to be somewhat of an individual, what I mean is that there is no identifiers. No numbers, names, nothing on the shirts to identify one from the other and nothing (except the natural way that roles form in a team game as it gets older) to attribute one person's success from the success of the group. But thank you for the information that was really interesting :)
There will always be a way to identify players. Especially with cameras around. As games go on, you'll notice certain players and the level of ability compared to others.
Yes, obviously with the invention of cameras that is the case, and obviously it is still possible to make-out individuals, my point was to make a comparison with other sports which seem built more around the excitement of individual glory within a team. I was suggesting that the nature of the game might be a reflection of the culture and temperament of Asia, and since the game is older than cameras that doesn't really effect my point. Obviously it is possible to make-out the contribution of individuals if you are watching very carefully, my point is that it is clearly not built around that at all, unlike many other games.
Thank you for pointing this out! It accentuates the idea that Japan's culture is very collectivist, meaning that the team relies on every player to be proactive to reach a goal or to defend a value. In this case the pole.
Football Media fun fact, that’s actually what the guy who sits on the top of pole is called. His job is to lean in the opposite direction of where the pole is being pulled and he also kicks any attackers down.
This is an awe-inspiring sport. We should export it! We already have an NFL that weds 300lb of muscle to cat-like reflexes so how about the NBL in the off season: National Bo-Taoshi League! Just imagine the possibilities.
I can't imagine a 300 lb guy being able to climb that pole. If it were ever played in other countries I imagine it would be played mostly by people with a slim but muscular build kind of like swimmers, not like the meat tanks that play American football
this is truly amazing. My wrestling team would love this. This just makes me laugh and scream at my computer. This gets me so fired up I don't know what to do with my self. People who do Martial arts are going to love this.
It is a Japanese commentary. "konnitiwa" This sport has been done the entire school events Japan. The toughest and most dangerous is the "boutaosi" performed at the school in this video. This school Military Academy in Japan . Its name is "Bouei University".
The man at the top of the pole is the team leader and the most senior student. Although there are 500 students in each grade at the National Defense Academy of Japan, only an elite 150 are chosen to participate in this competition. Just imagine the leadership qualities he possesses. In the future, he will likely become a general. He might even become the Chief of Staff. However, his role in this competition is colloquially referred to as the 'monkey'.
It's because red have lost. Red attack the white pole of green and green attack the white pole of red, at the end green take down the pole first, so red lose.
That's why it's played by a military academy. To my knowledge, nobody else plays this (not in an organized fashion) due to high risk of injury. Schools don't want to deal with all of the broken noses and ribs. I don't think that this is played often even at this organized level, but I could be wrong.
Someone please explain the rules. I see one clear red team trying to knock down green guy from pole.... But why are there green guys on the other side trying to knock down another green guy
I'm a year late, but here goes: Defense on both teams wear white. Offense wears different uniforms (in this case, red and green). The green (white) defense is trying to stop red from knocking down their pole, and the red (white) defense is trying to stop the green team from knocking down their pole. That's... pretty much the whole game, really. Defense and offense of the same team don't interact, but the defense needs to hold off the other team long enough for their attackers to win the game.
All the western media outlets call it "dangerous" and "weird" as if most sports arent dangerous lmao. Any sport that's worth playing has some kind of danger involved. Football, American football, baseball, bo-taoshi, rugby, wrestling, judo, etc all have some form of danger involved
This should be an Olympic sport
All the rugby/football countries would dominate
Asian countries cannot win the game😂
Yes
true lol
ikr?
We have a sport like that in the us its called black friday
LOL killed me
When nuttella is on sale..
Jeric Umalin lmao
Yha, we do have some pros this season. We need to have someone sponsor a talk show like you would football.
Or you could order online
rules : dont die
JinTan Stupidani fuucck thats what i said lmfao
Rule 2: take down pole.
Rule 1: *S U R V I V E*
If we had sports like this, there would be no kid on the planet who wouldn't enjoy it.
Bowser Jr. Lmao same
am i the only one willing to see russians play this
If there are no rules could you use an nuke?

Collectivism vs individualism
私は中心の守りを担当したことがあります。中は真っ暗で何も見えないので上の声を聞いて耐え忍ぶことそれだけを考えていました。チームワークが一番大切ですね。
Imagine the star player just going all out ninja on this shit.

This looks really fun. I would like to have a go.
I played this every year when i was high school student . my good memory... from japan
Can i ask you a question??
How was it like over there in Japan
In regular Japanese high school, I thought it was military academy only.
This is an awe-inspiring sport. We should export it! We already have an NFL that weds 300lb of muscle to cat-like reflexes so how about the NBL in the off season: National Bo-Taoshi League! Just imagine the possibilities.

This looks crazy and dangerous. Sign me IN!
No individuality, no player positions, no intricate strategies. The chaos is intoxicating! It's like someone made a game out of rioting.
They recorded this in surround-sound... I'm impressed.
That white shirt kid on the pole was godly

Are there any rules to this? Are you able to just strike eachother however you want?
xMrBossx just in the helmet. if the helmet goes off you stop kicking and punching him
I can watch this all day

the best sport in the world!!!
JAJAJAJAJAAJA LO MEJOR QUE VI EN MI VIDA, COMO ME VENGO A ENTERAR DE ESTO AHORA JAJAA
Bring this to the US
i'm not even mad this is amazing
So why did red stop attacking white?
Since we didn't see what happened, either time ran out or they successfully took the pole down to the required angle for victory
It's because red have lost. Red attack the white pole of green and green attack the white pole of red, at the end green take down the pole first, so red lose.
Definetly high on the list for my things to see when in Japan
It’s my first time watching such a sport, liked the idea, teach young adults team work but it looks risky
That's why it's played by a military academy. To my knowledge, nobody else plays this (not in an organized fashion) due to high risk of injury.
