  • This time we explore Snowpeak Ruins, a dungeon that excels at how it creates a cohesive, objective based progression structure in its open layout, all while remaining true to its setting.

As a 4 year old lad just watching their dear papa play the new Zelda I have no shame in saying the whole head spinning 360 degrees and banshee scream scared the living shit out of me. Also you deserve way more than 9.82K subs with content as great as this (I say this like you'll see a comment on a video from 2 years ago and will likely be buried in the rest)

I like the overall design of this dungeon. For example- [frozen solid for a few seconds], AS I WAS SAYING, if we look at that room over there, one second, have to trudge through this deep snow. We can see that [knocked down by chilfos spear] DO YOU MIND?! And then this room brilliantly connects to [frozen by ricocheting mini-freezard before Link could complete his ball and chain animation].

  • @professoreff3483
    @professoreff3483 2 года назад +2

I found this one frustrating but the ball and chain is super fun, and I love the inventiveness of having the "temple" be the home of 2 squatting Yetis, at the same time steeped in a mysterious history. Theories abound.
Of all the "chores" sequences, I liked the reekfish/snowboarding one best. I just wish Ashei had more appearances/bearing on the plot.

8:27 - For what it's worth, the manga makes this Ashei's family's home, where she was trained by her father. She regularly patrols the mansion to make sure no bad people are snooping around, and she even meets with Link there.

Brilliant video! The atmosphere of the dungeon is the best in the series in my opinion. Only rivaled by the forest temple which is a close second of mine! The notion of a cozy, mysterious, large mansion to explore in a blizzard setting is so appealing.

Great collaboration and a really detailed analysis of this dungeon! I forget just how underrated this game is, I think it truly rivals Ocarina of Time in places and this dungeon is an example of that; it is brilliantly designed and very well thought out, varied and complex. The journey to even get to this dungeon is also brilliant! The narrative after completing the Arbiter's Grounds completely shakes up too with the mention of Ganondorf being sealed here (hinting at his possible return) and outright killing one of the sages like a deranged beast. The sages also hint at the locations of the dungeons in the game and this feels like a call back to Sheik at The Temple of Time telling Link where the sages are trapped after Link pulls out The Master Sword and returns seven years into the future. Telma's Bar becomes a hub for the latest info on where to go next thanks to the help of 'The Resistance.' I love how fishing becomes part of the main quest instead of just another side quest and in Zora's Domain, which makes a lot of sense. I also love not worrying about your stamina meter running low in this game... The inclusion of a whole area covered in snow and ice in this game is really cool-literally. The area covered in snow and ice looks treacherous with freezing running water below the cracked and broken shards of ice. Ashei looks a real-life eskimo and is knowledgeable about 'The Yeti Sightings.' A Yeti is classed as a 'cyrptid' much like 'dragons' and 'sea-serpents.' To include a race of Yeti's to the series is really cool and they are friendly creatures instead of ferocious beasts as they are normally depicted in popular culture. The desolate and isolating soundtrack in this region is incredibly fitting for the area and is beautiful and mysterious. The sound of choir voices lamenting with what sounds like icy-sounding harmonics.... What I love most about this area is the snowboarding, it's incredibly fun! Definitely the most fun area of the game!
After snowboarding to the house of The Yeti, you see this mansion in the middle of nowhere. It is very surprising to see a mansion all the way out here, I was expecting maybe a house in a Yeti Village or something similar to 'The Mountain Village' from Majora's Mask perhaps? The Mansion 'Snowpeak Ruins' in a way, judging by the 'fortress appearance' reminds me of 'The Forest Temple' in Ocarina of Time looking at the architecture of the walls. The name of this dungeon seems to suggest a call back to 'Snowhead Temple' from Majora's Mask. The theme of desolation and isolation is reflected in the music of 'Snow Peak Ruins.' What went on here? The coats of armour with insignias on the walls of this dungeon is mysterious and an excellent observation. It seems like it was possibly used as a military training ground for soldiers? The inclusion of a chapel building with pews also seems to indicate a place of prayer for a group of people.... The harsh artic conditions may have been a way to toughen up their forces perhaps? The enemies look particularly original in this dungeon and the Freezards definitely look intimidating and seems somewhat inspired by H.P. Lovecraft if anyone is familiar with his works? This dungeon is unique and more original in the series as it also serves as someone's home as opposed to a place of sanctuary or worship. The interaction with the NPC's in order to progress throughout the dungeon in the way that the dungeon loops you back to the rooms where the Yeti's are is innovative. It is at times annoying but rewarding when you find all the ingredients for the soup and stocking up on the soup before fighting the dungeon boss is always a good idea and useful without trying to warp back to a shop to get a 'red potion.' The hidden treasure chest buried in the snow with a key really stumped me for a while when I first played through this dungeon. The push block puzzles using the ice seems to be a call back to 'The Ice Cavern' from Ocarina of Time and they in themselves are fairly tricky. The enemies with the frozen floors are tough to beat and overall, this dungeon comes across as really tough but rewarding. The mini-boss in that short narrow room was also particularly tough with the lack of room to dodge attacks. The dungeon item is very memorable and fun to use - the ball and chain. The way this dungeon utilises the 'wolf-form' is where I feel a sense of how well thought-out this dungeon is in the same way that 'The Arbiter's Grounds' did too. Not my favourite dungeon to be honest as the ice and snow reminds me too much of our cold weather here but there is a lot of mysteries surrounding the area.
The dungeon boss is definitely worthy of being called 'a dungeon boss.' I love the fast faced dramatic music and the design of the boss looks like an expertly carved ice sculpture with intricate patterns. I also love this 'two phase structure' to boss fights. The 2nd phase is particularly clever as the player has to watch the reflections on the ice to avoid being crushed by large pieces of ice and then destroy some of the ice pieces in order to be able to escape the final piece of even larger ice (the boss) from crushing you. The fight is not too difficult, but it is very refreshing not to have a boss that points at an obvious 'weak spot.' The ending of the fight is also deeply rewarding as the two Yeti's are reunited and a shard of The Mirror of Twilight is collected to avoid anyone else coming into contact with its corrupting power. A very memorable dungeon overall and I would hope the series creates more 3D ice-themed dungeons as I feel there is not enough of them in the 3D Games.

This may be a long shot, BUT I notice that there is a picture of the Zora Queen next to a picture of a Hylean, and if you look in his arms a baby could be possibly perceived in his arms. This place is located near Zora's Domain, and is related to Hyrule's royal family in some regard.
Now the Zora Queen leads you to her Husband's grave that is in a Hylean Village, where armor that gives you abilities of a Zora can be located. Why would that be if he should already be able to do so as a Zora? Answer, because he was a Hylean in service to the Royal family, stationed at the mansion, which was formerly a defensive fort. The commander met the Zora Princess and fell in love, they got married and had a child together. He returned to his duties in-between being with his Zora family, taking a picture of his wife with him. He eventually dies and his body is returned to his home of origin, Kakariko Village!
And whatever killed him also possibly killed most of the others at the fort, leaving it to be abandoned by the survivors for the yetis to move in, leaving behind the portraits of the Hylean commander that was also the Zora king and his beloved Zora Wife!
    That's my theory.

    i gotta say
its real interesting how both the fused shadows AND the mirror of twilight has the same effect on creatures
along with how it seems like the imprisonment of the twilight people was planned by the twilit royalty (like why else can only the TWILIGHT PRINCESS break the mirror?)
    but the fused shadows corrupted
    a deku baba into diababa
    darbus into fyrus
maybe a hylian loach into morpheel?
    and the mirror shards corrupted
    yeta into blizzeta
    a spider into armogohma
    and a kargarok into argorok
i couldnt say if zants sword is twilit magic or ganons magic
but twilight artifacts are consistently flat out dangerous for its users and others
and its pretty clear why they were sealed away to start with

Interesting fact, another name for a ball and chain style weapon would be Meteor Hammer, or Meteor. It is a Chinese weapon that most likely never saw actual combat but can be single headed or double headed. It is more popular now in martial arts or fire dancing as a rope with a head at the end. The name of the mini boss, Dark Hammer, is likely in reference to the meteor hammer or ball and chain weapon he uses.

This video was fun to watch. Snowpeak Ruins is my favorite dungeon in Twilight Princess. Great atmosphere with its placement in Hyrule and inside the house, good story progression, Yeto and Yeta are my second favorite characters in the game, behind Midna, atmospheric theme songs (dungeon and boss), fun miniboss against Darkhammer, the Ball and Chain is my favorite dungeon item in the game, Blizzeta is my favorite boss in the game, and the ending of the dungeon after the boss is one of my favorite moments in the game and series. And, it helps that this dungeon and boss contributed to me favoring the ice element above all the others. So, yeah, I pretty much like everything about this dungeon.

Great video! Always loved how mysterious this dungeon was and the atmosphere which is incredible, like y’all said. Great seeing HG on here too 🙂 the mystery of the suits of armor always gets me. Such a specific and odd body type. Fascinating how yeta and her husband/partner have taken up residence there, I always wondered why and how they got there, when it was abandoned and by whom. So fascinating.

When I first played this dungeon I actually didn't find that hole in the wall so I found the compass much later. This led me to figure out that there is a dig spot when using senses at that obscure chest, so I can confirm that it's not as hard to find as you might think!

when replaying this dungeon i noticed that there is a potential sequence break that can lead to potential problems such as the missable soup upgrade and unlocking the door from the wrong side results in the game crashing. although technically not a glitch, it still needs some precision to jump strike over the wall in the courtyard. that being said this is one of the best dungeons in the game, but i do think the progression in the first half is too restricting. while the dungeon does open up, it does lead the player in a way outside of a few diversions such as the final locked door. the combat rooms are probably the best out of any dungeon (except maybe hyrule castle but you have several mini-boss style enemies).

Outstanding as always, gents. The care and attention to detail with which you craft these dungeon delves really makes them so engaging and fun. 🤯Imagine if Nintendo developed and fleshed out a spinoff Shield Surfing title to be the first Mobile Gamng entry in The Zelda series🤯I'm not sure it would be a good idea or not...

Could we talk about how nice that Blizzeta seems to be a boss that you beat completely without usage of the sword ? And instead exclusively use only the Ball and Chain to beat, and only destroy the ice around her. 🤔

Great question! Time zones didn’t really have an impact on the time it took to get this video going actually. Initially when I began into TP dungeons and Adam and I started talking about doing a collaboration, I asked what dungeon was their favourite so that he could guest on that video specifically. Then it was just a matter of my slow butt getting to that point in the game lol.

Okay, I can see Rauru better in the HD version, but I still wonder if it's a difference between the HD and the original Gamecube/Wii versions, because I was pretty sure I saw a clock hanging over his chest. And you know who wears a clock...
And now, both of our sets of items, the Fused Shadows and the Mirror of Twilight shards, have corrupted a good character and made us fight them.

Now it's getting exciting: this dungeon rated the highest score in my dungeon top 10 out of all the 57 dungeons I rated (the videos are quite old now). Iam still not sure, If I like this one the most or the forest temple, but snowpeak is perfectly designed and constructed. It's also complex and interconnected, it's almost perfect in every aspect! It leads you cleverly through the dungeon by opening up part after part until you have to traverse it crisscross in the third part to transport the canonballs. The boss is one of the most epic fights in the franchise, the music of it so awesome. Just like you said, its amazing how this place feels totally authentic in its mansionlayout. TP is so underrated... It's my favorite zelda game next to the N64 ones.

I disagree with that buried chest. I think the compass showing the chest on the map is more than enough of a hint. Sure, you can get stuck if you don’t use the map, but I think you should get stuck if you don’t use the map. You can say the exact same thing about the part in Lanayru Mining Facility where the path through the sand is shown on the map.
