    I’m glad I’m not the only one who has fabric calling me ☺️
    It doesn’t matter if the fabric is in a brick and mortar store or online, I hear it seductively whisper my name.
    Patterns too.
    Well, live and learn. Just a page in my book, not the whole story. ✌🏽

      I do have some good ones, these are just the ones I can’t get past. That crinkle rayon still makes me a little sad. I just made this tartan skirt with New Look 6640 and its a winner! So despite the fails here and there I get some really good wins.

    I loved this video! Your sense of humor and the ability to read my mind, 😂 had me laughing for sure. Your husband’s comments, too funny. I have had a few sewing disasters in the short time that I’ve been garment sewing. Most have to do with poor fabric choice. It’s definitely a learning curve. I did completely abandon one pattern. Don’t remember what it was, but the amount of adjustments that I needed to make was way beyond my skill level. I gave myself permission to toss the pattern. Fortunately I had made a muslin and there was no fabric lost, just my dream of looking beautiful in that dress. If I’m really honest, I’m not sure I would have gotten much wear out of it anyway. I love your channel and look forward to more great content. ❤️❤️

    You had me laughing so hard. To clarify I wasn’t laughing at you, I was laughing with you. My motto is that I can either cry about it or laugh it off. I do have my crying moments. I also have my own sewing fails, I could relate to each of your scenarios. Each fail is a learning curve. I agree with you about writing notes on each make just in case you ever need to make it again. The secret is to remember to read the notes before remaking. Really enjoyed this vlog.

      LOL, I could post a video like this every week! So many sewing fails, some days are better than others. There are some fabrics that are total and absolute divas! Ask me about double georgette and why I have to cover my grays once a month after dealing with that. Let's just say never again! 😆

    My fail was a Jayne Pinafore….. why oh why!!!! They don’t even suit me…. But oh no … keep going…. Bought the most fabulous material, cut to the size… adjust the bust darts… took two inches off each side, then another two inches each side….. lost one of the pockets.. who knows where.!! Ploughed on and on top stitch… button holes… fabulous hem… i look like an inmate from a Victorian work house…. It sits reproachfully and a reminder ….

    I do love your videos! I’m trying to get back into sewing as I’m always buying patterns and material, but rarely do I buy one for the other! I used to see for my daughter when she was younger and everything always turned out perfectly, but, alas, things I try to sew for myself usually do not work out. Over the years I’ve gone to making pj’s and robes for family--usually can’t go wrong there!😜 But I want to try to sew for myself again. I find such inspiration in your videos.🙂

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  2 года назад +1

      Colette, keep at it. Fitting those patterns are THE hardest thing. Once you get into a groove for yourself you will master it. Start with knits, thats why I sew so much with them. I don’t want to spend hours and hours fitting a woven so I just go for a knit because its a quick make and I know it will fit. No bust darts to deal with, no full bust adjustments. Thank you for watching.

    I love this video because I have been there too! Like you, I look for a t&t to make after a fail. I also keep a sewing notebook. My most recent fail was Simplicity 9262. I tried to make it as a top. The fail was that the fabric not the correct type. I got a rayon fabric from Joann's on clearance. It did not have enough structure for this pattern. I do want to try it again though with the correct fabric. Thanks for the video!

    Just found you and have subscribed. You made me laugh with empathy. I bailed out from the Megan Niellsen Dove top because the French darts drove me crazy. It is really hard when you have to lower bust darts and do an FBA. I finally admitted defeat at the 3rd toile.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  2 года назад

      Oh no!!!!!!! I’m so sorry! I would put it off to the side and would come back to it later. It looks like a great little top. I would try doing the FBA first and then see if you still need to lower the darts after that.

    I can't tell you how often I have sewing fails! I mean my garments are wearable, but usually do not turnout how I intended. I tell my husband all the time sewing is about 85% failure and 15% success (if I'm lucky). Also, I completely agree with you about giving true pattern reviews. If a pattern is a dud I don't even feature it on my channel anymore. People are so scared to give honest reviews for fear of offending someone. If your pattern have issues people need to know!!! Thanks for your honesty!

    You mentioned forgetting to take length off the sleeves, and I admit to a little laugh. I've never had to remove any length from anything haha. [monkey limbs] I like the teal dress, and I would imagine you're the only one that will be conscious of the print issue... they used to put in the fabric recommendations "not suitable for diagonal prints" and I never understood why. Since I've not looked at one in a while maybe that's gone. If it fits, I say give it a run and see how it goes! 😁 Wonderful video! Oh, and the wrong fabric for the pattern thing - we could all write a book Haha!

    Thank you! Sometimes I wonder if other people are screwing stuff up at the rate I am and just not showing me- this was confirmation that I’m not alone. I made McCalls 7872. Like you, I thought a crinkle rayon would be so cute. I had a really fun one with garden motifs on it. Turns out this pattern has shoulder darts, a zipper fly, and a waist seem. All of them turned out all saggy snd warped. I tried to salvage it by installing elastic into the waist and then that made the fly come open. So I installed a button to hold it closed. I still wear it bcuz the top sags over the waist and hides all the problems I created with my fabric choice but if I could go back in time….I would love to use that fabric on a different pattern.

    You made me 😂. Madonna’s pointers. Girl, I once sewn a skirt that stated to size it by lower waist measurements. This particular skirt is suppose to be worn under the waist line. Girl, when I zipped up the skirt it slipped down to my ankle. I was pissed. Ever since that I choose where I want to wear it and size it from there. You cannot take all the suggestions the pattern gives. Fabric suggestions, most certainly, and even then you can sometimes work around it for your personal look. Great video. I enjoyed it!👌

    I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has sewing fails! You would think after sewing for 50+ years I would never fail!!! I have also completed an outfit only to find there were flaws I didn't see, oh my, is my eyesight getting worse?
    I do have a book that I record what I make and the date, I also like to see what I have accomplished for the month and the year. Now I also put a card in each pattern to reference any changes I have made to the pattern, the fabric and date so I have the quick reference and don't have to go back to find it in my notes.
