Imagine this: you're going full throttle and your turbocharger spins at a very high rpm and produces a high boost pressure. As soon as you lift your foot and the throttle closes, the turbocharger is still spining and producing boost pressure. Now there is pressure coming from the turbocharger and pressure coming back because it can't enter the engine (because of the closed throttle). Normally there would be a diverter valve to get rid of the pressure, but in these high performance cars there isnt. They simply dont want to lose the pressure in the system. The sound that you hear is, when the boost pressure coming back from the engine is trying to make its way back through the centrifugal compressor of the turbocharger. And yes, this is causing harm to the turbocharger. But the turbochargers on these cars are not meant to live very long.
Is not the Waste gate: waste gate is a maximum pressure limiter that prevent the turbocharger to exceed maximum boost pressure. It's mounted in the exaust side of the turbo. On F1 cars, starting this year, the waste gate has a dedicated exaust pipe. What you heard is the Blowoff: it's a valve mounted between compressor and the throttle plate, and prevent the rupture of the intake manifold when the driver release the throttle, and the turbo is still spinning.
Please don't go all fancy with the editing... Honestly I'd rather have the full lap uncut from 1 camera between the head-rests or beneath the wind-shield.
let's not go overboard. Some of these shots were great. It's just the shots like the one looking backwards from the roof or something, doesn't offer anything. But 1:16 was a good shot was it not?

I love their choice to forgo music in the entire presentation, especially in the brief slow motion portions. And the sound of that beautiful machine coupled with the aerial shots of it whipping around corners was just fantastic. I've actually watched a few really good videos this evening but this one has been my favorite.
This is like watching a nature documentary, but for cars. From how the sound is introduced, to the majestic slow mo/no sound shots, to the aggressive rumble chirping moments. Fucking amazing
The current Subaru (Nakajima Aircraft) made the Sakae engine of that Zero fighter. Therefore, the bloodline of engine construction and the spirit of Nakajima are inherited. Tuning is also in Japan. Most of the important parts are made in Japan.
Although its being driven at its edge, it looks so composed. I would love it if any motorsports media/journalist company did an in depth article about this car. Although it looks stock, the way the suspension negotiates bumps and watching this beast take corners flat out is an engineering feat!

Sure most of the helicopter shots and in-car mounted cameras had no sound, but +Prodrive already told you guys that it's RAW FOOTAGE in the description, shouldn't you guys just be thankful and read the description?! Feel a bit sorry because of all the money and effort involved from Higgins and the team but it's all relative. RIP to those who were lost, racers and spectators. The island will still be there next year..

The best bikes are just over 133 mph. They are much faster in a straight line (in excess of 200 mph) with a far better power to weight ratio. The Subaru is quicker in the corners.
Nit picking but not "just over 133mph" - current lap record is 133.962mph (Michael Dunlop - s1krr - this year) so pretty much 134. As a "bike person", I'm actually amazed this car did 128.7 - fair play, that's awesome.
Thanks, cars in the corners, bikes on the straights. They never would because of safety but it would be cool to see a LeMans car take a shot. TT riders are a different breed, it's insanity on two wheels.
The Subaru is an off road car. Single seater cars hold the records on any other circuit. At the Nurburgring the bikes are a minute slower, and that's works riders on factory bikes. But the TT is narrow, more like a long hill climb really. And the bikers there are heros with no room for error!
this one is built by prodrive, makes just shy of 700hp if i remember correct and a stock sti makes just over 300. i also think prodrive made that wing one off aswell
