Good memories, this was a system seller for the Amiga when it came out back in 86. It really showed off the Amiga's graphics and sound back then.

Jim Cuomo programmed the music for this game. In the 1970s he was in a rather obscure prog rock band called Fireballet who released two albums in the mid '70s with A Night on Bald Mountain (1975) and Two, Too (1976), as well The Intergalactic Touring Band in 1977 (with a huge roster of rock and prog musicians), and much later playing in a jazz band in Australia before his passing in February 6, 2018.

I have ever played on my Commodore 64 Amiga 500.
I never finished the Commodore 64 yet 😹,
but i did finish the Amiga version many times 😺👍🕹️.
    It is absolutely awesome, brilliant...
    and inspiring 😺👍🕹️.
    This game has everything:
    - Excellent gameplay
    - Magnificent characters
    - Amazing story
    - Awesome map
    - The beautiful ladies 😻❤️🌹 (miaow 😻!)
And you, sir AL82, are an magnificent player knight 😺👍.

The funny part is that a sequel was made in 1993 for the Commodore CDTV with some technical upgrades, but the graphics did not change too much. Even that looks good for the time, so you can imagine how impressive this was.
This looks like what you'd find on a 4th generation console in the early 90s.

27:40 Weirdly different from when I used to play. I couldn’t figure out how to joust, even when I tried to play as the most skilled dude, so I’d play the war game a lot, and raid for gold or for rescue sex fairly often, winning that way. This LP guy seems to be jousting his way to victory.

I loved Wolfric the Wild when I started playing but I eventually learned the jousting mechanics well enough that I could automatically win every tournament with Cedric. That the other saxons were supposed to be my allies was completely lost on me back then. My first order of business was always to eliminate those pests so then I could focus on defeating the Normans.

    • @sockpuppet4716
      @sockpuppet4716 2 месяца назад

      Could it, though?
Or is it mostly only people who remember a time when most games looked worse than this, who would think that it looked good?
If it were released today, it would use painted backdrops at a modern resolution, just like every other 2D game released today. In fact much of the original art (with a few exceptions here and there) looks like it was painted, digitised, and downsampled to something that the Amiga could display in real time - the tools for doing this were available in '86 if you had the budget. Today you can do it on almost any computer using free tools.

  • @Atman179

Its possible to beat this game in 8 moves, pick Wilfric the wild (Strong Joust). Forget about building an army. Just joist every over turn, and pick land. Win every bout and make sure you pick the right opponents. (Check map first). This cripples the opponents, and brings in loads of gold. Build a modest army with a catapult. Corner your opponents and force them onto submission. Lay seige as early as possible. Keep calling tournaments and win every bout. When it comes down to two castles left. Use the Robin Hood trick by visiting sherwood forest, Robin will grant you a huge army. Defeat last two opponents.
    Job done in record time.
Its handy to use the Amiga emulator to save state often especially before a tournament bout, just in case you lose.
Its all about land. Raiding is useless, and the conquest method takes too long.

In terms of presentation, this game was groundbreaking and jaw-dropping back in 1986. Gameplay, sadly, wasn't as good. It's kinda funny that the "inferior" ports actually improved on the gameplay aspects (like adding health bars to duels and raids) even if the presentation could be nowhere as good as on Amiga

    • @meierlinksd4996

@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays I could swear you could raise your leadership score as well with the joust. At least, that is, if you won all the jousts in the tournament. Somehow, I remembered long ago winning tournaments with Wolfric and getting into Cedric/Malvoisin smarts for better results in battle.
      Though, I could be wrong.

    • @jimjim377
      @jimjim377 Год назад

Fame gives boosts to leadership. In this version, it's not as important to boost that as none of the lords are weak in any areas. In later ones, Wolfric is weak in leadership so he needs to win some fame jousts.
