Im back after watching the Japanese version. Its crazy how the English version turned their relationship from "Aww, such good friends" to "KISS KISS KISS". In the Japanese version of the scene by the fountain Mana complains about being bored and Atem asks her his name - the whole part where she expresses worry Atem won't have time for her after being crowned is only in the dub. Which is hilarious because the dub carefully scrubbed out all other ship tease moments.

I think it was within the framework/rules of the RPG that Atem couldn’t have the « players » (his own friends at the time) tell him his name. You could also explain it as of course they know his name, but they wouldn’t have ever really called him by it since he’s royalty
This season was criminally cut short in the manga. The whole story was building up to this arc, and takahashi just axed it. I know it doesn't have many card games in it, but that's no excuse either. The anime studio really tried to add as many scenes as possible to fill the emptiness but that could have been done better too.

In my opinion there were early concepts in which tea was canonically connected to Mana. Her relation with Atem is a reflection of that between Tea and Yugi, and the two look similiar (and she uses DMG too). But, imo the same goes for Marik and Mahad. In fact, Mahad and Ishizu of the past have a strong bond, which hints to why they are brothers in the present. Overall, mahad and marik are very similiar, like for the specific kind of eye-lines (which are shared between them and dark magician) and other things. Also, it would be absurd that Odion, Ishizu have past counterparts but NOT marik, who is the most important villain of the arc. Probably the idea was discarted because the creator wanted mahad and mana to be spiritually present more in Atem's duel as guardians rather than physical characters, and preferred to reveal their identity just in the end. Still, it is possible to read everything with personal interpretations, because something about these ideas still lives in the final opera (it just a "scheme" behind what we are told about).
Honestly Mana is a really underrated character. She has so much personality compared to most of the characters in Dawn of The Duel, plus she has more of a character arc. Dawn of The Duel was also my favourite arc.
Mana is my fave character. Although that may be due to the fact that Mana is an ADHD energetic nut with magical powers and I'm an ADHD energetic nut who looks at sorcerers in stories and thinks "Dang I wish I could do that".
