You Bet, he's right no one had a better show. I loved the Flip Willson Show but young or old just the spectacle of the cast trying to get through a skit made you laugh let alone the comedy itself. I also seem to recall her doing the Dick Cavett Show once and singing with him it was hysterical they didn't have time to rehearse and Dick starts to sing and she bursts out laughing at him and they had to stop.
I saw this interview a while back ago, perhaps when it was broadcast, and thought she seemed lovely - but had no clue as to who she was. Watching “Annie”-clips today, I find out she played Hannigan, the appalling manager of the orphanage,.. I had no clue! Some things just goes one by. Sometimes we don’t always know the great things of those before us. She looks better now, I must say. I’m impressed. She does not look her age.
I adore her. Still so quick and witty, with genuine vibrancy. She and Lucille Ball are legends who will never be duplicated. Stephen, I’m delighted to see you and your producers are showcasing legends like Carol Burnett. She’s of an era when people who got famous and had TV shows were people who actually had real talent, unlike the present day. Thank you Carol for all the laughs. Can’t wait to see the 50th anniversary special. 💙😊
Stephen says Carol is "the greatest variety comedian of all time." I suppose that is debatable, but you won't find me arguing against it!! I just love this woman!
Carol Burney is a national treasure! I don't know of anyone who has had the influence on television variety shows that she has. Carol and Mary Tyler Moore are the Godesses of television, no slight to anyone else, in a field full of innovators. Please excuse spelling, I didn't feel like looking the names up. Unfortunately a rather dead audience. Maybe they don't remember her, but there is RUclips! God Bless All.
Jon Blondell Agreed! I was ecstatic watching this! I haven't seen her for a long time. She's still as great as ever. Man, she' s been my hero since I was a kid. Love her.
I Love You Carol Burnett! What an Artist! She surrounded herself with the best and the brightest, Bob Mackie on wardrobe, Peter Matz as musical director. Katz was probably THE New York studio arranger from the early 60s til ? I became familiar with him listening to Barbra Streisand records. The Good stuff!. Plus her ensemble of cohorts, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, and great guests. I'm gushing I guess, but she and her show influenced my life and career greatly! And I had some friends that were top LA studio guys then, that played on her show. Much older than me, of course. And they couldn't rave enough about the musical experience of that gig. God Bless you Ms. Burnett! I hope life is giving back to you some measure of what you gave us!
The Carol Burnette Show was arguably the best weekly show ever made for TV. And it inspired so many other good variety shows, including The Sony and Cher Show. I only dimly remember the Gary Moore Show, and certainly not every sketch from the show, but I do remember that Carol was almost always in love with Durwood Kirby in the skits. I also remember the black widow killer she played on Law & Order. That character was chilling; I don;t know where she had to go for that one, and am not even sure I WANT to know, but it was a brilliantly played villain who appeared to have no conscience at all. Hard to believe that brilliant, lovable Carol had that in her!
Anyone else find Colbert to be a genuis for making putting out an ad asking viewers to subscribe while reminding them of how ads can be skipped? It's almost backhanded in its beauty
50 years later and we're still laughing our heads off. Think of all the money CBS would have lost if they convinced Carol to play Agnes. I'm guessing since no one else did that show it was a real bomb.
It kills me to realize how many people probably don't get this comment at all. Not because they necessarily should but, because it makes me realize how old I am.
As kids, we were watching an episode of the twilight zone on tv (early '60's) when my mom walked in the room and remarked, "That's Carol Burnett! I knew her in high school!" She and my mom both attended Hollywood High in the late '40's. Amazing that Ms. Burnett is still lucid, engaging, and funny after all these years, while my poor mom sinks deeper into dementia by the day.
I will ALWAYS love dear Carol...she has been a beautiful, entertaining and funny, BIG part of life! Thank you Carol, for all the laughter & beautiful memories
6:18 is a meme waiting to happen! I'm from Sweden and I only discovered the Carol Burnett show a couple of years ago, through RUclips! That show is great and she's awesome! Also love Stephen Colbert! p.s that agent sounds like either a genie or a mobster?! Hopefully just a really good agent!
Wow I love this woman!!! I'm so impressed and happy that she is still the crazy lovable silly nut she always was! The years haven't changed her; she is still funny!.
Oh, to have grown up watching Carol Burnett is a true gift. She is comic genius and a true American icon. Her show with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway and many others was such great entertainment. 11 years of so much delight!
She is coming to the Kitchener Centre in the Square and I've got tickets to see her. Yes! She was an integral part of my childhood years. Loved her show!
Love this interview so much, with Carol Burnett it’s so natural and such a great conversational/ storyteller. Such a multitalented icon, legend, trailblazer, pioneer and comedy empress/ queen. Forever one of the greats. And yes absolutely gorgeous beautiful gams ( legs) for a dancer. What a unique original cute beauty Carol is. Adore her outfit here on the Late Show. And a very grand con artist back in her day, hahaha 🤣 😂 😆
National Treasure. And it makes me think of her years of friendship with mentor and fellow legend Lucille Ball, and all those talk shows Lucille appeared on when older-and now, Carol is in those years, as well. ❤️
She must take excellent care of herself(thankfully). At 84 years old, her legs look absolutely amazing! There's not a wrinkle, a mark, or anything on them! She must do regular workouts to keep up the amount of muscle tone that she has at her age. As a woman, myself, I want to know how she has kept her body looking as healthy as it does! I believe she is either vegetarian or vegan so that has probably helped substantially.
I love this woman! I loved her shows back then and now. I kinda' miss variety shows, which is why I nixed cable for online (free) TV. (saved a bundle in 11 years and still get to see classics!!)
I'd like to think the wrong person saw the first line and they knew they had to change it, but they also knew not to run it by that person once it was changed.
AND SHE GETS TO BE A CON WOMAN? WHAT A SICK JOKE!
Hahaha I feel for those who don't get this reference
I looked up Albuquerque con woman and she came up
up she came, big as day!
That woman is a treasure. And she's just timeless.
If you ever meet her you can certainly call her a treasure, but don't ever call a woman timeless!
Her most brilliant sketch was the Gone With The Wind sketch coming down the stairs in her curtain dress with the rod still in place.
Roedy Green that was so hysterically funny!
“I saw it in the window and I just had to have it!”
"Went With The Wind"
I have watched 'Went With The Wind" so many times and it cracks me up every time!!
I looked up “conman” and “legendary comedian” and your face popped up big as day.
A true funny lady of class. I grew up with her and she stills makes me laugh. I am so lucky to have been able to enjoy her growing up.
I'm not sure that the audience knows that they are witnessing legendary, comedic royalty!
Carol & Lucy
I saw this interview a while back ago, perhaps when it was broadcast, and thought she seemed lovely - but had no clue as to who she was. Watching “Annie”-clips today, I find out she played Hannigan, the appalling manager of the orphanage,.. I had no clue! Some things just goes one by. She looks better now, I must say. I’m impressed. She does not look her age.
Absolutely!
5 years later and now shes exposing the biggest con artist in tv history!🤣
It took a con artist to see a con artist
I adore her. Still so quick and witty, with genuine vibrancy. She and Lucille Ball are legends who will never be duplicated. WTF? I searched "conwoman" and "Omaha" and there she was!
QUEEN!!
my sympathies to those who've never heard of her.
I lover her so much, she's always so kind and genuine.
Better Call Carol
Stephen says Carol is "the greatest variety comedian of all time." I suppose that is debatable, but you won't find me arguing against it!! I just love this woman!
Carol Burnett - what a legend!
I looked up "con artist old woman" and up she popped
big as day
😂
I trusted her
And now she got conned by Gene Takovic
Growing up my favorite grandmother and I watched her show together.
I’m blessed to have those memories.
Oh Gene, look at these funny little cat videos! Oh Jeffy!
Carol Burney is a national treasure!
I don't know of anyone who has had the influence on television variety shows that she has. Carol and Mary Tyler Moore are the Godesses of television, no slight to anyone else, in a field full of innovators.

Dont forget Lucille Ball
Jon Blondell Agreed! I was ecstatic watching this! I haven't seen her for a long time. She's still as great as ever. Man, she' s been my hero since I was a kid. Love her.

I'm so glad we had this time together.
Thanks for the laughs and great memories, Carol (ear tug).
THERES A CRIMINAL ON MY SHOW, SHES A WANTED WOMAN AND HER NAME IS CAROL BURNETT
A true legend! What class!!
Anyone else find Colbert to be a genuis for making putting out an ad asking viewers to subscribe while reminding them of how ads can be skipped? It's almost backhanded in its beauty
Carol Burnett= Pure class, comic genius. THIS is a funny woman right here. Never did crass humor. She didnt need it.
I still watch clips from her show, when Harvey Korman and Tim Conway and Carol get together, it's hilarious! Love you Carol~
Gave me a warm feeling watching this, nice.
50 years later and we're still laughing our heads off. Think of all the money CBS would have lost if they convinced Carol to play Agnes. I'm guessing since no one else did that show it was a real bomb.
A true legend and a wonderful person! Great interview
She still looks good at 84
and really sharp minded!
Have you seen James Lipton lately?
I’d hit it
@ Tama Boyle... no I haven't but the next time you see him tell him I want that $20 I loaned him for his mother's surgery.
Cant believe he's 91.
Long live the legend.
Love her, so glad she is doing so well, and she looks great ❤️
Carol is the best.
What a sick joke
My left ear loved this
*@PowdaToastFace Killah* He is right ear? Huh.
Whoa, chill out Jesus.
It kills me to realize how many people probably don't get this comment at all. Not because they necessarily should but, because it makes me realize how old I am.
*@Jennifer Bureau* Would you like to purchase a mahogany, of the finest quality, coffin?
The woman who always makes me smile. You feel like you know her when she appears live. She must illuminate every room she enters.
I'm so glad I had the childhood I did, when tv time was a few special family hours & Carol Burnett was #1.
OMG I LOVE her! I cannot believe how good she looks (She's 84!). She looks at least 20-25 years younger than that.
As kids, we were watching an episode of the twilight zone on tv (early '60's) when my mom walked in the room and remarked, "That's Carol Burnett! I knew her in high school!" She and my mom both attended Hollywood High in the late '40's. thats poignant, im sorry, perhaps play her this clip?
So sorry to hear that about your mom
wow she looks amazing. i love her so much.
Carol Burnett is one of the (if not the) comedic gods of all time.
I will ALWAYS love dear Carol...she has been a beautiful, entertaining and funny, BIG part of life! Thank you Carol, for all the laughter & beautiful memories
What a hypocrite smh
I grew up watching her with my mom. She's a classic!! Love her!
What would Geeves Say?
What a treasure ❤
I wish she worked more. Or I wish I saw her more, anyhow. She was one of the first female comedians that I was absolutely transfixed by. So funny.
Don't throw the past away, you might need it some rainy day! Dreams can come true again! When everything old is new again!
When I was a kid my dad played in the band on the Garry Moore Show and we frequently went to the show and saw Carol on that show. Fun memories.
She's still got the legs though, don't she? * Rowr *
And that impeccable comedic timing.
'rowr' LMAO.i wuz thinkin' the same thing
6:18 is a meme waiting to happen!

What a legend she is.
I just turned 70... She is my inspiration for how I want to be 20 years from now. Full of life!
I love you Ms. Hannigan 💗💕
Ask Jeeves brought me here
Wow I love this woman!!! I'm so impressed and happy that she is still the crazy lovable silly nut she always was! The years haven't changed her; she is still funny!.
I loved seeing her in Once Upon A Mattress on Broadway when I was a little tyke. Thanks mom and dad!
A Legend!!!
Oh, to have grown up watching Carol Burnett is a true gift. She is comic genius and a true American icon. Her show with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway and many others was such great entertainment. 11 years of so much delight!
My favorite actress hands down ❣️
90 years old, wow how amazing is she
2 lovely humans talking. Wonderful.
Maybe the funniest comedian of all time. I just love her.
Icon! Thanks Amy Poehler for bringing her back!
SUNDAY night - DEC 3rd- CBS -
I'll be there!
Holy shit! She`s EIGHTY-FOUR! God dayum...
Love Carol Burnett!
She is coming to the Kitchener Centre in the Square and I've got tickets to see her. Yes! She was an integral part of my childhood years. Loved her show!
The only time I ever peed myself laughing was watching The Carol Burnett show.
Who doesn't adore this lady!
I bet I know a Cinnabon manager in Omaha that isn't a fan
Why can’t we find more classy women like Carol? She’s still beautiful and funny.
I love how Cher and Carol have the same laugh.
A gem
Love this interview so much, with Carol Burnett it’s so natural and such a great conversational/ storyteller. Such a multitalented icon, legend, trailblazer, pioneer and comedy empress/ queen. I don't know of a single person who was born in the mid 60's that doesn't remember this as being a family favorite.
National Treasure. And it makes me think of her years of friendship with mentor and fellow legend Lucille Ball, and all those talk shows Lucille appeared on when older-and now, Carol is in those years, as well. ❤️

"Cheek to cheek" was ok but they had an issue with "carefully"? Seems a bit backward.
Jim's videos lol I love that. People were wacky back then lol
Maybe they thought she was insinuating drunken dirty dancing. Gotta be careful once things start swinging.
I think it was more they were okay with a "butt to butt" punchline vs an "accidental insertion" punchline.
I'd like to think the wrong person saw the first line and they knew they had to change it, but they also knew not to run it by that person once it was changed.
Dan Smith - can you afford it?
"MRS. Whiggins" - best character ever
askjeeves sent me here
OMG!!! You and Deadpool are my all time favoUrite #AntiHeroes, #MissHannigan!!! ❤️
We're not worthy
NOTHING BUT ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love her genuine laugh!
She is like 80 here and man those legs!!!!
85
Her stories are priceless
her show was a HUGE hit here in australia, a great American!! :)
Thank you Carol, for the laughs, Harvey, Tim, a wonderful buffonary
I love that they played the Carol Burnett show theme music when she came out
Love how the band played Cheek to Cheek at the end of her segment!
Such talent on the SAMs stage
This show has never aired in Norway, so I don't know this woman. But I also love her to bits. :D
I love her book about growing up poor first in San Antonio TX then in Hollywood. Very inspiring.
“Cheek to cheek…” 😂😂
i 💘 her!!
