TCX Drifter boot review

- In this review, the chap in the cap tells us all about TCX’s adventure boot called the Drifter. It’s a slightly more off-road focused version of the company’s other adventure-style boot called the Baja. Now Chris likes the boot, and if you’re an adventure rider who is going to spend most of his or her time on the black stuff, this may well be the perfect boot. But recently Chris came back from a trip to Morocco on crutches. He had a little accident in the Sahara. He had been wearing a pair of Drifters, and whilst they were brilliant on road and for the gentler off-road bits, they were perhaps not the right choice for some of the more challenging, off-road sections. Certainly the guide was of the view that a proper, plastic, motocross-style boot would have better protected his ankle. And he probably has a point. The Drifter is a fabulous boot. It looks the part, and if you’re going to be doing a bit of green laning, or following gentle trails, then the Drifters are perfect. But they’re not a proper, out and out, off-road boot. I suppose it merely highlights the point that no one product does everything. You wouldn’t really want to ride on road in a motocross boot; they’re horribly uncomfortable. But motocross boots are stronger and more robust, and they do represent the best way to protect your ankles if it all goes a bit pear shaped. Chris’s accident was, we all have to say, pretty amusing too. Did you know that the Sahara was as big as mainland China? Amazing, therefore, given all that space, that two bikes should manage to crash into one another. But it gets better....!

Chris, class review and the last element with partner made me chuckle, will take your advice on this one....thanks
Great review as always. Hope you both have a speedy recovery in time for the coming year!
Hahaha, this was lovely video to watch. Take care you two. Wish you a speedy recovery. ❤️
By now I hope you have both recovered fully! Also hope you are back to riding again. Thanks for a great review!
Great reval, and Im glad you're both okay. Wish you a speedy recovery.
great review...ultimately made me buy the sidi crossfire + the TCX Baja GTX ... sometimes instead of 'best of both worlds' you need to keep the worlds seperate, e.g. on and off-road
Nice 'trip' then! get well soon and looking forward to Shaun's biscuit.
Glad it wasn’t worse. Thanks for the real world review. You two seem like a cute couple. Speedy recovery to you both.
Hahhaha, what a great and funny review! Thumbs up Chris to you and yours Mrs.
Well that was an Easter egg! Glad you all are alright.
I don't blame my Daytonas for being less protective than my Sidi Crossfires nor do I criticize my Sidis for being less comfortable to walk in than the Daytonas. Horses for courses. I realize you have much positive to things to say about the boot and also contextualize how and where the boots perform well, but the review comes across as (partially) blaming the boots for your injury when actually a collective lack of judgement (in both using the boots outside their intended range and cresting a hill with insufficient caution not knowing what is on the other side) the main culprit. Nonetheless, thank-you for the review and I wish you both a speedy recovery.
Lol. The lady is ways right. Lol. Glad you two are okay. Get well soon.
Riding in NYC I really thing a serious off road boot is what you need!
Anthony Hopkins is just mesmerized listening to you.
How tall is the boot? Great review! Did you check the bikes for magnets? Perhaps they were drawn to one another.......even in an area the size of China!
Honest and trustworthy. Refreshing.
Sorry you guys had a run in, glad you weren't injured to a greater extent 🤕
Awesome review! U guys are inspiration too..🤗🤗
🙊🙈 Great review! Speedy recovery guys.
Cracking review 😉
Hope you get better soon! I thought it was strange that Shaun was making videos. Hey at least you could review the medical service over there so if anyone has plans to do some off-road they know what the care is like over there.
Nice street boots. Next time you go offroad get yourself a pair of Gaerne SG12 and spend a day to get used to them. Or the Fastback which are a bit less hardcore.
Had a pair of Gaernes for 30 years and never did break them in!
I think it's your fault Chris. You should have assumed where you crash is on a race track. If conscience. Always run away to a safe place. Either way. Top notch review as always. I'll be coming fitr shortbread biscuits after quarantine blows over.
You said it was a cracking boot. Did you mean an ankle cracking boot?
8:17 😄
I think by virtue of the fact you had already crashed it was your fault Chris. (was that ok Sara?)
haha, great vid!
So your 'complaining' that the boot didn't stop over half a metric tone of weight from breaking your ankle? Not to mention the momentum of that 600 odd kg of weight - seems a little unfair. I think you're lucky the boot mitigated as much damage as it did. Your just as likely to have the same thing happen on a green road as you are in a desert with the kind of riding you where doing... if you lost grip and fell over and then your wife bike fell over you because she was right behind you, then I'm pretty sure you'd break your ankle on any road or track as well. It's a nice little anecdote don't get me wrong, but I don't think a full off-road boot would have made any difference. A dirt bike is half the weight of your Adv bike. I think 1/2 a metric tone of weight on any boot and your ankle is going to break - it's just a case of how badly it's going to break and how well that boot will act as a splint so you can get to medical attention.
Sorry mate, your fault, But please don’t hold that against me when I pop in for a Richa arc suit.....
Of course it was your fault, why on earth would you think it would be anyone else's 🤣
China is smaller then north america. Canada is the second largest country behind Russia. And Mexico is also a decent size as well. The Sierra is around the size of china and the USA. ;) But much smaller than North American.
thanks for your honest review!
