Daytona motorcycle boots review

  • In this video review Chris, the chap in the cap, talks through our range of Daytona motorcycle boots. Chris loves Daytona boots. He must do because he keeps telling us they’re the best in the world. But in this review, he attempts to explain why they’re better and why money spent on a Daytona boot is money well spent. We learn about the leather, how the boot are made, and how to ensure that you’ll be wearing them in 10, or even 20, years’ time. Please excuse the fact that he does have a tendency, occasionally, to repeat himself!

    I used the Traveller in the Irish police from 1998 to 2014 when I retired.
    A most comfortable waterproof and long lasting boot and I’d highly recommend them.
    Unfortunately tested them out for safety in an accident including getting my foot trapped under a car wheel. I give it five out of five for safety as well as comfort.

    I agree 100% 👍🏻 Daytona make simple the best boots. I'm from Bavaria and I visit a few time Daytona in Eggenfelden and meet also the owners. There are so down on earth and proud for them products. High price, but also high quality. Daytona is definitely the #1 for Motorbike boots.

    Seeing this video, all I can say. This is the ever best explanation about Daytona boots period. If I would change the picture of Chris and stay behind that counter. I would say just about the same. With one difference. He can't be replaced with nobody they way he describes the boots. I speak ( think) pretty decent german but my english may miss the point how he talks about it. CONGRATULATION to you. Alles gut in zukunft. Helmut

      Helmut-you pretty much said the same as Chris and sold me my two pairs of Daytonas (and Held leathers, gloves ...). Cheers! 👍🏻

      Agreed, he does an excellent job of describing these boots. Back in 2010 you sold me my first pair, and I put over 100,000 miles on them. Been resoled twice, and are still up to the job. My second pair is also going strong at around 90,000 miles, and on their second soles.
      The other great feature not mentioned in the video is their large size range. I’m in size 16 aaa, or in this case size 51 narrow. They go even larger, as well as custom. I’m currently having a third pair built - they’re that good!

    Excellent review and I could not agree more on the quality of boots. I had my first set of Daytona boots for 15 years! across 5 motorcycles, 1150GS‘s, Harleys, Kawasaki ZZR etc and rode them through snow and ice rain in the Rocky Mountains at Glacier and Banff, the desert in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico to the Appalachian Trail in New England. They always performed well, stayed dry and warm, we’re not overly hot at 100F weather and always felt protected. I got hit in the shin with a piece of 2x4 kicked up by a truck where another boot would have failed me but the Daytona took the hit without missing a beat. I‘m buying my second pair now and it’s the best money on equipment I spent.

    I went in to buy a good quality sport touring boot & after I’d tried the brands I’d researched, the sales guy got me to try a pair of these. Instant sale. Spent at least £100 more than I was planning and have never regretted it for a second. I would agree with all of the claims in this video. Top quality and unrivalled protection for sure, but the clincher is the all day comfort. Makes you realise how rubbish your normal shoes are by comparison. Excellent product from a superb company. Would also recommend their wax cream, the protector spray, zip lube and even their extra support insoles (which I now also wear in my walking boots and casual high tops.)

  • @Shazvana
    @Shazvana 4 года назад +1

    I totally agree, these boots are extremely well made and worth every dollar. My only issue is, I wish the boots were made bigger around the ankle girth, I bought my first ever pair of SL Pilot GTX from our only Aussie distributor, they helped me pick my size based on my foot measurement, I got the Daytona boots and couldn't even get them on because they were so tight around the ankle girth, I have never had a problem in my life with any type of boots, so this was a shock to me. I exchanged them at great expense for the apparently more adjustable Lady Star GTX, I also went up one size and yes I can now get them on but only just, they are still very very tight around the ankle girth and they are very stiff, it feels like I'm wearing a cast, so 3 months after purchase, I am still yet to wear them. I look at them often and is all I see is a lot of money sitting in the cupboard and wonder if I will ever be able to wear them with some degree of comfort. The reason I found this video was because I was searching for tips on how to break these boots in so I can try and ride with them but I am yet to find any decent tips on any video.

    I purchased a pair of M star as the GSA is a bit high for me. Unfortunately, I felt a bit disconnected with the high sole so changed them for the Road Star. I have tried to pursue with these boots but they don't suit me. I find the sole locks into the rally pegs of the GSA ( yes I can change the pegs) making moving my feet around on the pegs, while riding difficult ( you don't realise this until it happens) I also find the boot incredibly stiff, making gear changes difficult ( I pursued with the boots for 2500km, thinking they will bed in but with an only marginal difference). Be careful with sizing, if you lay a pair of 43 soles against a pair of 44 you will see a big difference in the length. For some reason, my right big toe felt jammed and bruising under the big toe resulted ( yes the boots are probably slightly small but going up to 44 for me felt too big a step). I want to like these boots, I love things that are well made and think highly of the company history and philosophy, I also can't stress how accomodating the Australian distributors have been. Still, it appears the boots and my feet don't match.

    I own both the daytona roadstar and the AC classic (tan). They fit my fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable. I also like the way work when riding (controls, etc). They also look and perform extremely well. I can't comment on the protection they would provide in a crash or off, but they have features that lead me to have confidence in them. I also would buy them again without hesitation. I wear a 47 which is the same size I wear in dainese race boots (Torque D1) so I'd say they fit true to size. Excellent review BTW

    Chris, isn`t it interesting that Stadler and Daytona, two hidden quality super champs in the motorcycle gear industrie, are very close located to each other in lower Bavaria? They are just some miles from each other.
    Two rather secret operating companies, not much marketing, but the highest quality. That speaks a lot for the character of this area.

    I'm not so sure about the comments on width. I've had several pairs of boots in a 47 and currently have Alpinestars for day to day and Forma Adventure for off road. I bought a pair of Daytona Road star online in a 47 and they were a struggle to get my foot into, tight when actually on however there was no way on earth to zip them up. With both zips and the velcro undone I couldn't get the zips to fasten. They were a country mile off fastening so I sent them back. My feet are not particularly wide, a typical 47 fits like a glove.

    I found them to be completely the opposite. Came up small and very tight and stiff. I do have wide fit take a 43 struggled to even get my foot in, in fact I couldn’t.
    The shop said they would obtain a wide fit for me and call when they were in didn’t. So purchased a different make and they fitted great.

      Yes, you can wear under / inside trousers. They are a Gore-Tex boot so more sensible to wear underneath a waterproof trouser. If you wear a trouser inside the boots and it rains then you will get wet feet!

    Daytona do in fact make fantastic boots, I own a pair of their short vented summer boots.
    However there is a British company that has been on the go for a long time called ALTBERG, they make boots for farmers and deer stalkers to Royal Marines and the Army. They do fantastic motorcycle boots one called the Roadrunner which is CE level 2 or BSEN 13634:2010-2:2:2, they are great and offer a repair/ resole service which is very good. They are in the UK, Yorkshire. They have never leaked and are comfortable off the bat.
    Buy British

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  4 года назад +1

      We've tried these boots. They are a bit clunky and heavy and not particularly comfortable. Their website is atrocious, and if they don't have them in stock you could be waiting for six to eight weeks. It is an interesting artisanal maker but they're not really a serious player. They don't work with Goretex and I think you will find that not many of their boots are made in the UK. A BSEN standard is not a CE accredited standard, so if the EU were to make it mandatory to wear CE approved boots, as they have done already with gloves, the Altbergs would not be wearable. ML
