One of the things I love about Japan is their amazing ability to radically rework songs and have them turn out great. Most groups I will like one version of a song but not other versions. However with Japan I love multiple versions. This is incredible!
Wow! This version is so sleek! I really liked the beginning part. So groovy! This version has better sound quality 🤔 than the live version, they played in Budokan, but I like both of them respectfully.
I was there, getting squashed in the front row, being able to touch David's white loafers. Thanks for uploading since there aren't many copies available, only from the Hammersmith gigs, which I saw thrice too.
oh my god. I remember this version fro the two nights I attended in Bristol in 1982. Very different but blew me away. So talented and so good. such a shame personal differences destroyed them as friends and then as a band.
Well, there was the original (a b side) and later a remix by Napier Bell with a fantastic powerful snare drum sound that kicked ass. I found it on a various artists album and played it over and over
I agree! This version actually sounds cool, and sleek and puts the album version to shame. I don't even listen to the original album version anymore, I just go straight to this one.
This song is different at every gig, this one seems to be clashing between the oriental keys and bass. Rob Dean said he never settled on a guitar part until just before he left, but that was the best one. This one here isn't it, tho it's quirky/interesting
Serious jamming. I, too, prefer it this way. Mick was shredding!
Even still today finding new versions of songs 😎

I completely agree! I wish each rendition had been given the studio recording but it’s awesome that the rawness is saved here with the live versions
I love the Tin Drum-esque arrangement!!
That's it
I had no idea what this even was when they played it in 1982. Sounded so different until he started singing.
I have been looking for this "minor chord" version for 30 years.Thank you so much! This is my treasure!
Indeed! thank you very much for uploading!
My god, I can't believe your actually spot on ere, it's in my ears and obvs many others , but Yes, not the Usual Bb Minor ,,,!👏👏👌

Never heard this arrangement before. Love it. Mick's bass is bangin'. Saw them in Portsmouth Guild Hall about then but don't remember this.
This version would of went well on the tin drum album, I've never heard it before, thanks for the upload.👍
Yeah I really wish it would have ad least been on the remaster as a bonus track.

Loafers????? Fucking white jazz shoes dear!
Love it and great photos

And Simon N Bell, he drove a wedge between them, the psycho.
Amazing, never heard this version
Love this song thanks for sharing like the photos
This version of european son is very rare upload. Please listen me more JAPAN live version.
such a shame this version was never polished and released... a thousand times better than the original !
I wouldn't go that far
@@sirjellybeans1st19 I know the original is still good but this is still maybe a little bit better.

Cracking tune
Excellent sound, thanks for posting. Can the rest of the show be posted?
holy shit
Hehe...nice, huh? Beats anything The Beatles ever put out, in just this one song alone. (Sorry, I just really hate the Beatles) 😬😤😮💨
I too would like a dwnld of this concert please.
I Just like the bass.. of course!
very rare,,shame they didn't take that into the studio as they hadn't even peaked
Let me have your email address and I can send you a link to download the whole concert so you can download it. Its much better than Oil on Canvas

Brian Grogan I, too, would LOVE to have the link to this whole concert. Thanks so much in advance.
Brian Grogan Would love to have a download. Sounds awesome. troygi@mac.com
I prefer the version from the 1981 tour, this one sounds a bit over-reworked
I mean it was to much rock for me in the 1981 version tho
This is the 1981 tour not 1982.

Mick Karn
At least they tried as always a different version of songs, this for me, no, totally inferior to the recorded and Japanese live version.
Different but I prefer the original
Haha. What a load of old bollocks. The worst example of Sylvian's preposterous I'm-too-precious-to-be-pop nonsense. The original was brilliant.
Comment makes no sense. What a load of old bollocks.
I kind of see your point
Agreed on the original is much better
I actually prefer this version. It is so unique.
@@heathergeary2724 yeah.
