Hi guys, welcome to my little/big Portugal. I am humbled by your kindness. God knows we/our country are not perfect, but we would like to think we have a few perfect things that make life, well... delightful. Our land is blessed and there isn't much that doesn't grow here. Our climate, despite climate change is awesome, our sea provides us with so much beauty and bountyness, our history and people teach us all kindness, simplicity and tolerance . We are a peaceful, pretty, and politically stable country. I hope you are happy here, and that you stay for a long, long time.
I'm watching from Western Canada (British Columbia), and this touched my heart. I'm 51 now with a wife and teenage kids, and we yearn to go back to the basics like you have. We are searching for a place like this, which is affordable, temperate, beautiful, and has a slower pace of life. Thank you for opening my eyes to the wonders of Portugal 🇵🇹

Welcome to Portugal. My husband and I moved here from the USA and it was the best decision. Beautiful country/people/weather/best quality of life, we loved it here. Wishing you all the best. 😘
@@MadnomadM we landed in Viseu, one hour away from Porto. Northern Portugal. It’s a very nice city, it was considered for many years the best city to live in Portugal. Viseu has universities, hospitals, nice shoppings, public safety, housing prices are much better than in bigger cities like Porto or Lisbon, it’s surrounded by highways to anywhere in Portugal and we are just 1 hour away from Spain, which is great when we want to visit other European countries. We have been here since 2017. Good luck 🍀
You are absolutely correct about the people of Portugal. We spent some time in Fatima and were overwhelmed by people's kindness and generosity. Portugal is a beautiful place.
My goodness, what a touching story about the neighbours with the ladder that watered you balcony pots! What a breath of warmth for a Canadian pining to escape the culturally, climatically and politically frigid wasteland of Canada. I’m moving, just a question of where and when!
I moved to algarve,. Portugal 4 years ago and I'M LOVING IT!!! This is paradise! I'm vegan and started my permaculture plantations. Also discovering a lot of amazing spontaneous edible herbs! My tiny farms just became a big supermarket full of amazing food 😁😄♥️ I'll never go back to the cities!
Your loving your country This is a heavenly feeling And I am feeling so happy for you to listen to know about your tiny farms You are sharing lovely opinions With love from india We all belong to this wonderful planet called Earth I don’t want to lose contact with you dear

Obrigado por este vídeo. I am Italian, I am in my mid 40 and I got married with a Brazilian woman about 20 years ago when I first came to Brazil. I used to travel a lot until I settled down in Florianópolis, BR. I always thought the paradise was far away from my mother land, but now with more years on my back and more life’s experience I can see I wasn’t completely right. A few months ago we purchased 2 hectares of land in Sardegna to prepare ourselves for the next move. I am in love with Portugal and I agree completely with you guys and the reasons why you moved there. Please keep up your contagious energy, you two are very genuine and brilliant human beings ❤
Hi Bruna, interesting what you say and I wonder if you know about Campinas, SaoPaolo in Brasil. Is it true that Brazil is dangerous especially for ladies? Thank you. One learns a lot watching and reading comments. Bless you.
It brought tears to my eyes when you described the people here. Remember: It takes one to know one, and that's why you're so welcome here. You are a lovely couple. All the best to you! Fred Lisboa
We moved to Alto Alentejo in 2002, buying our home in 2003. Amazing to hear how similar your path has been to ours, even down to moving from Southern England and renting a small house in the village whilst our purchase and renovations went through. Everything you've said about life here, especially the people, even loving the rain and temperate seasons, is absolutely true. Incomparably better than retiring to anywhere on the Costas. I would not move from our little mountain home if we won the EuroMillions. Hardly likely since I've never bought a lottery ticket.
Excellent reasons, that i alreadt have on my list of why I want to retire early to Portugal. Your stories about the kindness of the people really warms my heart. Beautiful, just simply beautiful
Y'all are right, amazing video. I'm Portuguese and it's all true, my neighbours bring me many kilos of vegetables throughout the year and don't ask for even a thank you. I've eaten so many free apples that I'm now fit
Welcome to my country and thank you for all the nice things said about it, and our people. Not everything is perfect there, and not everybody is grandiose in Portugal but the majority is, and that is what matters to make Portugal a beautiful place. You seem two wonderful people, living a simple life, and taking all the fruits you can out of your land. You certainly are very welcome to Portugal! Everybody should have a garden, especially in a so productive land. One important detail of our culture is patience and tolerance. You are going to need a lot of that as the pace there is much slower. Everything will still get done but as its own time. 🤭 I am a Portuguese in love by Portugal since I can remember myself, although I left it because of LOVE, but there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about returning. My dream is to do what you just did, buy a house there with a piece of land, go live there, and go back to the basics, grow my fruits and vegetables like my grandparents did there for years and years. May you have joy and happiness for many years to come in my little loving Portugal, and a LOT of bounty too. Take care!❣️
Hello guys! I was born in Portugal, raised in Brazil and I have been in the UK for the last 20 years... I'm considering to move back to Portugal in the near future! I wish you guys all the best!
I've spent many months in Portugal although I'm originally from Hawaii. I totally agree what a Beautiful Country Portugal is for All the reasons you mentioned. Additionally Portugal has some of the Best Surf and Surfers in the World which is added Bonus!!
Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA! Thank you for such a simple but beautiful video. I had the opportunity to spend 10 days to see Porto, Portugal while visiting a friend. You are absolutely right about how friendly the people are and how beautiful the country is. I love planting vegetables every year in my backyard and I take comfort watching you working in your vegetable garden. I hope I will be able to follow your footsteps soon perhaps all the way to beautiful Portugal. ❤️ to you both.
What a beautiful couple on the same wavelength! I have been here in Northern Portugal for five yearsand absolutely agree...the people are so normal and relaxed ...after twenty years in London my neighbours were strangers. Glad to be here and all the best ...you cannot lose.
I'm from Scotland and have lived here for 15 years and couldn't agree with you more in every respect. The people, the climate, how the vegetables grow. Every thing here in this country is wonderful, except maybe all the red tape, but we enjoy the slower lifestyle. We have to accept that everything else moves slower too. 😊 You talked about your pick up. I have had the same car here for 15 years and it's 23 years old and still going, with few repairs. We are truly blessed to live here. 😊
Hi Rhona. We came because of the slower pace too and with that come the slow paced admin. As you say, we have to appreciate and accept those things too. Things get fixed, not thrown in the bin.
I moved here for work more than 20 years ago and it was never my intention to stay. I thought that when I retired it would be a signal to return home. I’m still here , and it is, as you say, the people, the food and drink, and the climate . It is also the news from home that helps me to appreciate the quality of life in Portugal.
Seconded. I came here to work in 1997. Didn't intend to stay. Married a Portuguese girl after we moved back to the UK for a few years. Ended up back in Portugal and couldn't imagine living anywhere else for all of the same reasons. Food, drink, climate, friends, community and quality of life. Particularly if you want to have a bit of land and grow your own food.
Portugal was once such a powerful country, it was perhaps the major force in discovering the world by sea, but after the earthquake of 1855, slowly lost its status on the world stage. I live in Canada and most people in North America don't even know where Portugal is on the map, sad !!!!! Your video made me cry of how you describe the Portuguese people, they are a lovely Happy bunch, and I can hardly wait to return. I also agree with you about the prices of property, here in Canada the prices of housing are just insane, if I was to buy my house "today" I could not afford it, but thank God , to of my Portuguese background/way of thinking it is paid off.
I very much appreciate your nice and sincere words! I'm Portuguese, live in Canada for many years, and very much love my country! I intend to return soon to enjoy my family there, nice neighbours, and the great climate! Those are big and enviable pluses! About the language you learn it by practising it! Parabéns pela vossa escolha com desejos do melhor para vocês no nosso Portugal!
How naive ...those people will never learn anything from others...they just stroll around and blate some mellifluous anglo tosh...oh ah oooh.....try that " moving " to any fqwqqing anglo shitcountry...they NEVER EVER will provide this space to build your life because anglospheres are analretentitive and parasitic..... houseflippers and xenos....RIGHT and wise to leave analretentive canada where the epitomy of identity is yelling about analretentive icehockey players...yucccc
Fantastic video, I arrived in Portugal only 1 year ago and can also confirm how helpful and friendly the people are.The climate is fantastic, its Christmas day and its expected to be 16 degrees today! A very merry Xmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
This is my introduction to your page and I must say that I like it. You 2 are enterprising seniors who are not too lazy to invest energy in living pleasure. Wonderful to see this. Keep it up and everything will be fine.
My husband and I are watching your videos. I’m a gardener but he isn’t. However, he wants to learn how to grow vegetables, we are thinking of selling our home and moving to Portugal. Love your videos. You two are doing your best. Very inspiring.❤
Welcome and thank you so much for this video! Sometimes We forget how good is our own country. This country Will always receive good people like you! Be happy!
My heart is in Portugal. I hope to return an stay forever. I live in the far north of Canada but dream everyday of Portugal. Best food ever. The cheese is epic !!
Portugal and Tunisia have so many things in common..some people underestimate us because we're geographically small countries, but those who chose to move to live among us know that these countries are way more better than famous big countries and cities. People, food and climate is wonderful here 🇹🇳🇵🇹
Wise decision! I adore the Datsun. I used to live in a desert area. You actually love the rain and appreciate it! Can't wait for the next episode, you crazy kids! x from Tennessee.

What a real pleasure to follow every single step and reason why you moved to Portugal. I believe that you are so happy and proud of you and what you did all around, meeting people, eating good food, enjoying the sun... I wish you all your dreams may come true day after day. Good things happen to you both because you are good people.
This was absolutely lovely to hear! The whole world should be a global village! Thanks for sharing your experience in your adopted country!

I fell in love with the Portugese people during my Trans Atlantic sailing trips. Aside from being the most beautiful place in the World and virtually crime free, the Azores were top on my list to move to, but I decided to start an organic banana farm in the Caribbean instead.

So nice that you found a beautiful place to thrive and live a good life . New sub here, looking forward to seeing more of your life in this amazing country.

I just found your blog on RUclips. I love your honesty, humbleness, and outlook on hardwork and spending money on fuel for winter. Chopping your own wood does have many benefits as well as keeping both of you in shape. Kudos on a well thought move of why you would want to leave the British coast for a warmer climate. I am in my own home in Tucson az,(southern Arizona), and love to grow veggies and flowers. Love the rain and your irrigating addiction. Our water bills are really high now, so green grass seems to be disappearing. I miss that and having ditches to irrigate from. I'll keep watching you show. I loved the introduction.

And they will have good chances to get it. Portugal need new immigrants #fact.👍
First time I went to Portugal as a younger man I was smitten. I know it's a cliche but you are so right about the lovely people - I rented a small rural house in central Portugal and often came home to find baskets of fruit and veg at the door. Been back lots of times since and was seriously thinking about making the move until Brexit happened, which made things a lot more difficult to run my business between the two countries plus the weak pound doesn't go nearly as far as it used to so need to save a bit more..... but one day - fingers crossed!

New to your channel.. Was very nice to hear all you positive comments about the Portuguese, we have had some big problems here but the kindness and help we have been given by our Portuguese friends is the reason we stayed, you pointed out all of those reasons perfectly, i really enjoyed it. And good for your for mingling so much, so many dont. I loved it when you said you came here for the sun, with all the rain behind you, lots here but much needed.

Just came across your channel. Have to agree this is why I too left Uk in 2020 to be able to own my own land and grow my own food and live off grid. This just caught my eye. Enjoyable and relaxing entertainment. I know where Portugal is on a map. We had world geography everyday in school in the 1960’s. I live in the Midwest USA, rural America with four seasons. People here are starting to leave the cities and move to small towns and rural America to get away from the insanity and grow their own food. Anyway, good luck to all!

Good luck 🍀

My goodness, what a touching story about the neighbours with the ladder that watered you balcony pots! What a breath of warmth for a Canadian pining to escape the culturally, climatically and politically frigid wasteland of Canada. I’m moving, just a question of where and when!
We will always remember the neighbour’s kindness. Good luck with your plans. 😊

Obrigado. Grazie and thank you.😊 Hope everything goes well with your move.

Thank you so much. That's heartwarming.
Great story. Thank you for sharing. 😊
The watering by the neighbours has made me cry. How lovely.
We were a bit overwhelmed by the kindness of our neighbours and we appreciate that so much 😊
Portugal was one among strong Nations till few centuries ago.May God bless both of you and also your children.
Thank you.
Portuguese are the nicest people I've met anywhere. And the food is FANTASTIC!
You can't help loving that country!
It’s a wonderful country. 😊
Excellent reasons, that i alreadt have on my list of why I want to retire early to Portugal. Your stories about the kindness of the people really warms my heart. Beautiful, just simply beautiful
It’s wonderful to share our stories with you. Thank you 😊
Y'all are right, amazing video.
I'm Portuguese and it's all true, my neighbours bring me many kilos of vegetables throughout the year and don't ask for even a thank you. I've eaten so many free apples that I'm now fit
That's awesome!😊
Welcome to my country and thank you for all the nice things said about it, and our people. Not everything is perfect there, and not everybody is grandiose in Portugal but the majority is, and that is what matters to make Portugal a beautiful place.
You seem two wonderful people, living a simple life, and taking all the fruits you can out of your land. You certainly are very welcome to Portugal! Everybody should have a garden, especially in a so productive land.
One important detail of our culture is patience and tolerance. You are going to need a lot of that as the pace there is much slower. Everything will still get done but as its own time. 🤭
I am a Portuguese in love by Portugal since I can remember myself, although I left it because of LOVE, but there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about returning.
We had already learned the value of patience, but Portugal is teaching us a new level. We still love it. 😊
Hello guys! I was born in Portugal, raised in Brazil and I have been in the UK for the last 20 years... I'm considering to move back to Portugal in the near future! I wish you guys all the best!
Thank you so much and best of luck with your plans. 😊
I've spent many months in Portugal although I'm originally from Hawaii. I totally agree what a Beautiful Country Portugal is for All the reasons you mentioned. Additionally Portugal has some of the Best Surf and Surfers in the World which is added Bonus!!
Absolutely.
Absolutely, Nazaré is the place with the biggest waves for surfing.
Thank you so much 😊 All the best with your plans.
What a beautiful couple on the same wavelength! I have been here in Northern Portugal for five yearsand absolutely agree...the people are so normal and relaxed ...after twenty years in London my neighbours were strangers. Glad to be here and all the best ...you cannot lose.
Thank you for that lovely story. 😊
You talked about your pick up.
It’s been such a beautiful experience. We’re delighted we moved. 😊
Lovely story. Thank you.
Oh I hope they were tears of saudade. 😊

Our water bills are really high now, so green grass seems to be disappearing. I miss that and having ditches to irrigate from. I'll keep watching you show. I loved the introduction.

To me the whole country reminds me of South Africa. We spent 3 months there beginning of this year to feel the country out, and I felt home. You don’t say in what region you live, but looks central. Keep the videos coming. So enjoyable, and of course advice so helpful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We’re in the Coimbra district of Central Portugal. I’m from Donegal. Coleraine is North coast. I hope you have a great move next year. 😊
Hello Hello!
We "the Portuguese" might be, at times, all the nice things you said about us. But undoubtedly, the two of you are incredibly kind and wonderful as well.
Our country is yours. Please enjoy it. Please enjoy the simple pleasures of life and nature.
And if the rainy days get two long in those two short weeks of rain we have, please come and visit the Cascais coast and let me know. I'll gladly buy you lunch (one vegetarian dish and one fish dish perhaps?).
Hi Ricardo,
Thank you so much for your kind words and generous invitation. We would love to accept. Can you send an email on our about page please?
See you soon. 😊
Hi Ricardo very kind of you to invite such beautiful couple, God bless you forever dear..
@@NearbyVeggies Hi, both of you are such wonderful couple God bless both of you forever and may God keep your'll in good health peace happiness and prosperity forever 🤝🌹💪🙏✌️
We appreciate that. Thank you 😊
Thank you for lyking my country and living here wellcome saúde
We love it here in Portugal.
So nice to feel your happyness with your new place 😍 I had to cry about your story, where your 65 years old neighbour clime the wall to water your flowers upstairs!! 🌈🌈🌈
Extraordinary kindness. 😊
That´s the best firewood you could get. It warms you when you chop it, when you carry it and when you burn it.
It sure does. 😊
God bless both of you on your Fantastic Journey with your new Homestead in Portugal! Love that you both are working together and that all the neighbors are so so so helpful without expecting anything in return, except maybe Gratitude from you both. Many Blessings. Sherry :)
Thank you so much.
Love your videos. I am so envious of the growth of fruit, flowers and vegetables where you live. Here on the east coast of Yorkshire (two miles from the North Sea), there is not the growth, apart from weeds! I had a Portuguese vet, and he was wonderful. Are you going to get any livestock? Best wishes, Susan.
Carlos brings his goats to our land but aside from that, we won’t be getting livestock. We swap vegetables for eggs. 😊
Keeping animals would be a whole other job in addition to what already keeps you busy dawn til dusk!
It’s a lot of responsibility too. 😊
