    I would love to be in the Moulin Rouge but just searched it up and the first thing I read was "MINIMUM height 5"9".....well, guess that dream is crushed!

      When I was a dancer there [ Dec 1986 to Jan 1988] the minimum height for a female was 5 FT 7 IN. I was just about tall enough. Wouldn't get in now [ apart from now being too old and too fat as well LOL !]

    Ok, let's debunk the myths I see in the comments. I worked briefly there as a dresser (btw I'm glad to see this place again in a vid !). Not all the girls (and boys) looks the same ; Some are 19yo, some in their 40s. You do not have the same body type after twenty years of dance. Plus, some are very tall, more than 6ft, and some... a small 5.4ft, smaller than me. I saw a girl with an almost child-like body and another one with lovely curves. Keep in mind that they are dancers, which is sport. They are athletes. Girls are out of breath and covered in sweat after only ten minutes of french-cancan (which is one of the best part of the show to me), same for the boys, and it keeps going after ; they are wearing leather jacket and dancing, ugh. So, yes, she eat what she wants, but they burn a lot of calories during the two shows.
    About their make-up, it must fit all costumes, and it's in those places' spirit : It's the same everywhere. Keep in mind that you can be very close to the scenery when you watch the show, or you can be very far. It doesn't matter, you don't pay attention. They all have different faces with different shapes (what I loved too there), and it unites them to have all the same make up.
    Anyway, if you got the chance, go to see Féerie, it's truly magical.

      No the Nicole Kidman film is nothing like the real Moulin Rouge. But there are two other films that are more realistic. One is called Moulin Rouge and one is called French Can Can. They were both made in the 1950's I think. I thought the Nicole Kidman film was crap as it was completely different to how it is in reality. That film was made in the 2000's. But the Moulin Rouge has been around since October 1889. It will be famous a lot longer than that silly film !!

    I don't understand why they included her advice to "be unique" and "be your own person, have your own style" while showing clips of dozens of dancers all dressed identically and dancing in perfect synchronization. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with this; it just doesn't match what she was saying. Maybe the company does value individuality and welcomes the dancers' input into the routines, but they should have showed this if they want us to take that particular advice seriously.

    • @yothiga
      @yothiga 6 лет назад +11

    I get the feeling that Moulin Rouge management wanted a specific image to come across in the interview. For one, the Moulin Rouge dancers have the same shape as show girls in Las Vegas or the Rockettes. They are very thin, but very buxom in comparison to their overall weight and shape.
    Dancers are athletes and it seemed insincere that the Moulin Rouge dancers can eat whatever they want. Seems more like they would need to make sure they are getting the right kinds of carbs and protein and they probably have mandatory weigh-ins to prevent any of the dancers from gaining much weight. I think the dancer wanted to quell any notion of food restriction or eating disorders. Notice the focus on chocolates and sweets?
    She also wanted to show that the Moulin Rouge is a sort of a family. Possibly. But many dance professions are still about being the best, or getting the best dance role. There is a lot of competition in dance as there is always someone that can do higher leg kicks, are younger or prettier, etc.
    For those saying that the dancers are thin because they dance. The answer is yes and no. There are professional dancers of all sizes and shapes, some are thicker or have more muscle. They are dancers, just maybe not the image or look that the Moulin Rouge wants to project in its brand. Many modern dancers have shapes that are curvier with more muscle than the Moulin Rouge or showgirls image.
    To be a Vegas showgirl or a dancer at the Moulin Rouge, you probably have to have the type of body type that stays slim more easily, or you have a different body type and know what foods to eat and how often to exercise to keep the shape that the company prefers.
    It seems like this video wanted to show how great and carefree being a Moulin Rouge dancer can be. 😳

      I personally don’t know if you know, but it is impossible to be fat jn the dance world. The amount you dance and train before you become a professional is so great that you would burn all the fat. I am a dancer and i literally eat mcdonald’s everyday, yet i’m still around 100 pounds

      @@lolwut2130 you eat McDonald's every day? Then how do you get recommended servings of fiber, protein, etc?

      Considering that "professional" dancing today can be anything from the Royal Opera House to shaking your tits and ass on your premium snapchat, that's a pretty wide net.

      I agree, I danced burlesque all over the world for 8 years. This is some sort of propaganda. Backstage in the changing room we spoke about Botox, diet, best way to vomit food out and plastic surgery. Girls can be wonderful but also I can get really nasty. Most of my experiences were less pleasant. I love being a dancer. But I'm glad I dont ha e to compete with the others any longer ...my body type was never on the thin side. I had to starve myself to be lean, even though I was doing pole for multiple hours a day.

      Yeah but it’s not they’re different styles of performance - you wouldn’t ask a ballet dancer to do the acrobatics of a cirque de soleil performer

    Thanx so much for this wee peek into La Moulin Rouge. I always dreamed I'd go to Paris after finishing school, work on the streets creating impressionist paintings, sipping endless cafe au laits, then dancing and drinking the night away in some bar at night. Instead, I followed the sensible path, became a Nurse, and have been studying and working ever since. I just finished two exams over 24 hours and this was what I needed to see just to boost my flagging spirits, especially at this time with the COVID-19 pandemic. I still haven't been to Paris either :(

      @evelina9553 7 лет назад +287

      I was thinking that but they do dance every single night and those are some serious workout there... also I imagine dancers practice a lot so they eat whatever they want and work it all off

    • @isabelleanderson3618
      @isabelleanderson3618 7 лет назад +43

      +Rabi Little yes but I mean they're all the same height, skin tone, and probably have to work very hard on their bodies. That's kind of their brand, they all have to look the same.

    • @evelina9553
      @evelina9553 7 лет назад +77

      Isabelle Anderson It's all about the legs so of course Moulin Rouge dancers have to be tall :) And I think all performers in general work hard to look good on stage/camera. However I am as confused as you are regarding the uniform skin tone of the dancers... D;

    • @AnneLien1987

      Isabelle Anderson They can eat whatever they want but they can't exceed 2 k (Idk how they say that in the U.S.A /U.K ...) of there weight in the beginning. Example: The girl weight 50 so her max will be 52-53 ^^
