    You are so fortunate, K2, to have someone willing to teach you his secrets, which took a lifetime to accumulate. What a boost to your learning curve that must be. Listen carefully and take good notes. He won't always be available to answer your questions.
    Best to you!

    Great to see Mr. Detweiler in the videos. His willingness to show you the right way to run this important part of the farming operation says a lot about how he and his wife raised such a son who despite his childhood accident grew up to have such an impact on far more people than you will ever realize.

Now you have some basic knowledge of the art of spraying for sure. Hope y'all have been getting rain and your crops are doing well. Thank goodness we are finally getting rain here and that's been a real blessing. Y'all stay safe out there working.

    Why are you not wearing gloves when you handle chemicals, as a former farmer I wore gloves all the time to protect myself as much as possible from chemicals.
    A farmer friend of mine died of
    cancer, 3 weeks after diagnosed, he worked hard all his life,he never protected himself .
    Farming is very dangerous , so please protect yourself as much as you can .

    I think you are all great people that work hard and do the kind of work that many will not, thank you for that!
    That said spraying Glyphosate (Round Up) anywhere near crops for human or animal consumption is actually banned in many countries. I believe that the chemical and food industries (big money) are the reason we still can use it here in the USA. The jury is still out on what this chemical does to humans but you can bet at some point they will find it to be harmful.
    I own 10 acres of rural property in the Sierra foothills and I do use about 100 gallons (mixed) per year for weed and brush control but nowhere near our garden. We have huge wildfire issues here so weed and brush control is obviously important and Glyphosate is truly a miracle for weed control. My alternatives are mowing (we have rocks everywhere) or string trimming.
    What are your alternatives to using Glyphosate? I understand its value first hand but I do not want to eat foods that have been exposed because by the time we figure out what it does to us it will likely be to late.
    I wish all farmers the best and hope you stay healthy and prosperous.

    • @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler
      @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler  11 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortunately I don’t think we have an alternative. We have to have it for weed control. If we didn’t spray and the weeds took over our food supply would diminish

    Be super careful with glyphosate. Farming is pretty prevalent in my family, and opinions seem to be kind of divided on the stuff. However five years ago I was diagnosed with the exact form of cancer most directly linked to glyphosate. Stage three large b-cell lymphoma. I’m not a farmer, but I regularly used Roundup in my yard and around my house. I never wore gloves, and if I got on my hands or my clothes I didn’t think much of it. I was declared cancer free after five months of chemotherapy, and I haven’t touched the stuff since. Honestly, I think the stuff should be banned… But until that happens, just be safe! Gloves especially. Love your channel, big fan of Andy, God rest him.

  • @AlaskanCaveMan2012
    @AlaskanCaveMan2012 Год назад +4

    I do think that stuff could cause cancer after a few years. I don’t know if it’s true or not but I have heard that they also use it as a drying agent on some crops?

    • @robertheinkel6225
      @robertheinkel6225 Год назад

      I had non Hodgkin’s lymphoma 20 years ago. They claim it might be caused by roundup, or maybe caused by the sun, or maybe by the water! Basically they don’t have a clue, but all they know for certain, is it takes decades to appear.

      Funny how these lawsuits are brought by gardners ( at least whats made the news) glysophate at a box store is 2%-7% concentration. What farmers use is around 54% from memory. Farmers use hundreds of gallons/ yr depending on acres and gardners even at a lg facility may use 2-5 gal? Farmers have used glysophate since the 80s. The stats dont make anu sense unless the gardners are dinking it. That being said I dont necessarily trust the chemical companies either.

    • @lm1275
      @lm1275 Год назад

      Yes it causes cancer and there's a court case to prove it, Monsanto lost because glyphosate causes cancer and the crops are soaked in it. Buy organic only. Maybe the farmers learn someday to stop everything with poison
