Gene said on Johnny Carson that this was the most difficult dance he rehearsed for. He made it look so easy. That’s the mark of genius
For reasls? I just cant
He made it look so easy. Gene was too cool!!
I can't stop thinking the final part when he splits the paper in half multiple times had to very difficult; you need to put just the right pressure and speed at the right places with each foot or the paper will slide instead of ripping, or rip incorrectly. The paper could be rigged, pre-cut and mended to split just right but not likely with the multiple sub-splits and other action before. I imagine how many times Gene did the entire routine perfectly, just for the freakin paper not doing the right thing at the last split, you couldn't just "fix it in post" like today
I would have guessed the roller skating dance. ruclips.net/video/8hs6iXpInTA/видео.htmlsi=gMhfdQQFIO5RGVD4
I totally agree this is a great & favorite number... but the difficulty was in finding the right workable newspapers & enough of them to work out the bit. these papers tore just right, crumpled just right, et al. and they weren't a recent date, so the prop man had to scrounge all over the city for enough of them for rehearsal, shoot & reshoots. but it's a great number. Watch it on super slo-mo and still can't count the taps!
This is by far (in my opinion) Geny Kelly's best dance ever crafted. The coreagraphy is amazing and so original. It was one of the most difficult dances Gene had to shoot, yet he does it so effortsly. You could really see the love and passion he had for his work.
It always looks like he’s playing a joke with the floor and I love that so much
Was the floor really squeaky or was it a sound effect?🧐
Unimaginably good. Gene and Astaire will forever be the standards against whom all dancing will be compared.
Don't forget Donald o Connor. for example the famous roller skates dance was made iconic by Donald first.
Also, remember Nicholas brothers 💜
@@priyac7054 Of course, Priya. Both Donald and the Nicholas brothers were superb! It just seems to me that as technicians, artists and improvisers Fred and Gene were perhaps the two most influential dancers of all time-and both were decent actors and singers to boot!
@@kevinkilduff2064 and it isn't just the Nicholas brothers either, Kevin. 💙
Never again will the likes of sandman, Jimmy slyde, bunny Briggs and Sammy Davies EVER WALK THE EARTH :").. They invented panaché! OOF that superior technicality + spontaneity..
Everlasting goosebumps ☝🏻👑👑
Gregory Hinds was in a class all his own. So was Bill Robinson. And you obviously know nothing about ballet.
How about Ginger Rogers? Who did everything Fred did backwards and in heels?
Athleticism, grace, good looks. The whole package.
No edits …. these guys were true performers …. incredible raw talent!!
Amazing for its time, just so classy stylish and really still timeless
correction: amazing for all times. id omit the "for its time part" and keep timeless haha
‘For its time?’. What can you mean? The tap dancers from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s will never be equalled AND there were a lot of them. In my opinion, Gene Kelly was the best of all and an amazing choreographer too.
@@Bethi4WFH I mean at the time and for a few more decades these things were very creative and far ahead of their time, now we can see all sorts of crazy stuff and athletic ability in dance moves that would totally seem unreal back then, something classy and good remains so but to be fair there we should always see it in elation with the timeline its in.
You just contradicted yourself, you said it's "amazing for it's time" then went on to say it's "timeless"... I agree that it was amazing for it's time however definitely not timeless. I look at this and I'm wondering where the energy, the spark, the use of hand motion which is lacking. Michael took everything they lacked and worked it like magic! Now that's what you call timeless as it's unlikely there will ever be another performaer and dancer on the same level as MJ, yet I've seen youtubers that can out dance these guys now. Michael was outdancing these guys when he was 17 years old, check out his variety performances from Las vegas. Absolutely incredible!
@@SacredMovementJM LOL
His most difficult dance routine. And he makes it seem effortless! Outstanding!
His genius as a dancer transcends the boundaries of time.
His creativity and beauty in dance will always be remembered.
GENIUS!!!!
Totally agree! This dance gives an impression of lightness and fun although it's technically complicated. Amazing and beautiful!
He was just born to dance, it is an extension of who he is. Makes everything look so easy. He is one of the most talented dancers in the world. And he always had the ability as well as the stage presence and that is what makes him special. Some dancers are very talented but with no stage presence but when you have it no one can stop watching. 🙂💗
Gene Kelly was born in the year 1912 and I was in the year 1962. He was pure talent, masterful, creative, phenomenal and great. R.I.P Gene ...
My dad was born in 1913. He dressed like Frank Sinatra and danced about 1/4 like Gene Kelly, which made home one of the best dancers in town. I mean, the guy was in his 60s and was showing me how to break dance. It's a shame I never learned from him.
I just shake my head when,I watch him. He's just THAT GOOD!!!
I love how much fun he had with every role. He just makes me want to jump up and dance.
I tried teaching myself tap, after watching Gene and Fred Astaire. I've also tried learning to dance like Michael, so I thought I'd check out his influences and have enjoyed it. they are amazing. I really want to watch Bandwagon now. ❤
Gene would have loved to hear you say that. to show that anyone could dance. that it wasn't elite, was almost a mission for him. Of course not everyone can make a living by it, but you can dance for fun.
Wow! What an athlete. What an artist.
YES!
We do not have that today.
Oh my GOD!! When you're that good, you have to SHOW OFF!!!! And
Gene Kelly DELIVERS!!!! I can't even do that in my dreams!!!!
He's a natural
He performed some of the most original dance scenes and choreography! Not just dancing for the sake of throwing in some dance.
3:55 is my most favourite part of any tap dance sequence. He pulls it off amazingly.
Gene Kelly was a triple threat in Hollywood!!! a great actor, good looking and one phenomenon dancer!!
He also choreographed, directed, sang, wrote, and produced. And lots of his dances are like stunt work so thrown that in too 😂
Effortless elegance simply brilliant
Gene Kelly was a true icon..all that talent & good looks rolled into one❤❤
Gene Kelly, a part of my childhood.
I thank this clip for starting me on my tap career
Found out something about this man I never knew before. He also had the talent for serious drama. See him duel Spencer Tracy with razor sharp dialog in the film "Inherit the Wind". Gene Kelly stood his ground there too. I hope there is more like that, always thought he was good for a light romantic lead but nothing more. At times it is a nice surprise to find out you've been wrong.
I will never get tired of this one
Amazing. I love the way he travels when he taps.
Summer Stock has always been my favorite Judy Garland movie. :) She had superb chemistry with Gene.
OH MY DEAR LORD! I LOVE GENE KELLY, SOOOOO MUCH 💕💜❤️
Class, talent, elegance and perfection!
My favourite scene from this film.
Gene Kelly is and was absolutely unique.
So incredibly talented in everyway and very handsome as well.
My favourite all time movie star. 🌹🌹🌹
Love gene Kelly, he was amazing
Perfection from Gene. What a talent and look how less talented our Actors and Actresses are today. Hard work and pure genius produces such an iconic work of art on screen that lasts forever
Today they want the fame without the work 😢
The music from these films is always the best!
The newspaper should get co-star billing.
Carl Cushman Hybels as should the floor board.
Whenever I hear someone tap. I want the newspaper in the scene because of this movie.
And damages
I understand that it took some doing to find a newspaper that was exactly the right age, that would tear in exactly the right way. They weren't fooling around in those days.
Nobody does it like Gene!!
Such utter style and grace. Every movement sublime.
One of my ALL-TIME favorite .
So incredible!! I have no words for so much talent.
Very nice back lighting and opening crane shot. Gene was great too!!
Un pur moment de bonheur. Thanks Gene. You’re the best.
Jesus....such a great routine. How utterly wonderful. I really like how Gene Kelly always dances like a man....full of vigour and masculine energy....what an exceptional force of nature he was...
Snort.
Hunky.
Yummy 😋
The man was a GENE-IUS!!! What a talent! Creativity at it's BEST! ✨👍✨
Fantastic! Dancer, performers, choreographers, etc... take note of the exceptional use of the most simple of props and themes here. Yes, it is cute, but is precise and dabbles in story and basic human experiences all at the same time. Amazing!
He gave me love for dance since i was 6 years old..
His old are you now:)
Amazing! Love this dance part in the movie
My favorite gene kelly dance.
I have always liked this scene.
fantastic, brilliant no more can be said he is amazing.
Thus is so so beautifully alive and wonderful ❤❤❤
A routine from anything. Such talent.
ジーン・ケリーのダンスと歌声ってとても勇気をもらえるの私だけかしら?本当に素晴らしいです。
Just Incredibly Awesome
Wowww! Amazing!
Great great talent
💚
That part at 4:09 when he rips bit of paper with his shoes...PURE MGM GENIUS GENE! 👞👞 📃 📃😮😁😉👌🌟 Pity Judy wasn't looking at this from behind the scenes.
one of my all time favorite movies
Perfection
I love this....
So glad I stumbled upon this gem, so good👌🏾💎
Broke something trying to copy this. . . . . worth it!
Amazing!
Bravo!
Legendary Gene Kelly!!!!!!!
Oh Gene...such a good dancer and so gorgeous!
Oh I just love newspapers! They are so useful! Even to read!!!! 😊❤
Unbelievable, this man is unbelievable
Q buen bailarín ... bonita escena... Parecía un momento sencillo, pero ofreció aún mucho más. 👏
MAGICAL
This left me shook. Wow.
Wunderfull, like this very much
Gene Kelly a true Dance Maestro 🕺 ♥ ❤ 💕 😍
Sin palabras. Speechless.........
Oh man. Why can't this return 💜
Warner ‘archive’? If there was a dancer that good toDAY they would be queuing round the block. Just stunning.
That was beautiful
2021 and I’m still here.
Ah-mazing Gene Kelly!
Wonderful metaphor of the life
Gene Kelly did his best dancing in his late 30s and 40s
Best ever routine/style
He makes it look so darn easy!
Love ❤️ this movie 🍿 love the cast
He will always be the best.
Magic.
Every time I watch this I cry
Great to watch such ability in DANZ-z
ce que j'aimais chez ces danseurs c'est à partir de rien (un craquement de parquet) pouvoir développer un numéro, cela fait tellement naturel.
Genius🎉
Sheere beauty!
Achei o final uma chave de ouro. Achei encantador essa perfomance :)
South indian actors love this dance till today. Great performance.
Браво 💕🙂🌹
Un grandissimo...immenso Gene Kelly
ICONIC📰👣🕺
He is just alone
How beautifull
When I first taped this off television, I guess in the early '80's, this whole sequence was cut! How could they?
The incorporation of physical and auditory props is fuckin wild
Gene Kelly is the most Coolest guy in 2020!
there is no one like him in my opinion he's the best there ever was
Maravilhoso
