Doris Day and Gordon MacRae star as a 1920s heiress who aspires to stardom and the attorney who falls in love with her. Nanette Carter's (Day) wealthy uncle agrees to finance a Broadway musical starring Nanette--on the condition that for 24 hours she answer "No" to any question. This one little stipulation leads to a whole host of romantic complications in this jazz-age musical. Loosely based re-working of the Broadway hit "No, No, Nanette"
Directed By David Butler
Starring Doris Day, Gordon MacRae, Gene Nelson

I can't walk down the stairs without holding on to the banister. Gene Nelson could dance all over the stairs. If he had been at MGM he would have been a major dance star. In retrospect, he is appreciated for his amazing talents.
The ability of 50s dancers in musicals to jump on things not meant to be jumped on amuses and slightly amazes me
Just slightly...? lol
Kelly Martin it’s called speed
Gene Nelson jumps from the ground to a piano top in some Doris Day movie - it is beautiful.
search up the Nicolas brothers if you want to shit yourself with amazement
@@haydenwoodall9371 hahah true
Boy I miss these feel good flicks where you could walk out of a theater tapping your feet & think ya...I can do anything! We need a little fantasy in this world ❤
That's what Betty White is for. The beacon of hopes and dreams.
Didn't you feel that way after La La Land, Marcia?
@@chiefscheider
No sorry...I didn't find it that inspiring...
I don't think people want to walk out of a movie theatre tapping their feet anymore.

More the pity....
I am into heavy metal music. I don't know how this was recommended for me but I am sure glad that it was.
What is wrong with all of you demeaning a genre of music because it isn't to your taste? I'm sure there are those who don't care for musicals, but that doesn't mean that they believe it shouldn't be considered music in its own respect. At one time, people felt jazz was noise because it didn't follow predictable patterns like "proper" orchestration. Like what you like, but don't cut down something else because it's not to your particular liking. This person was making the point that they are a metal fan but also were pleasantly surprised to enjoy this scene & music. It's a cool comment and you guys trolled him for no reason.
@david stanley I thought your comment was sweet. There, my hair flip of a rant is over now. lol
Runner Girl You have switched topic to the types of people who listen to heavy metal, as opposed to what I was addressing: you claiming that Heavy Metal isn't music.
I realize trying to have a logical debate with your single-celled, bigoted brain is like explaining gravity to a chicken. However, if you attend those events you deem "classy," then you prove that even those with the lowest class can be a member of such an audience.
Never mind the fact that even those at the pinnacle of high society, like prolific writer Stephen King and crowned Prince Harry, being metal fans...but also Metallica just recently performed WITH the San Francisco Symphony as a collaborative concert. Good luck with your life, sweetie. It sounds...bleak. lol

You never know if you’re going to like something unless you try it. (I say this to you as a Mom.) How do you think I got my kids to eat broccoli? 😂🤣😂 Have a Happy and Healthy New Year.
@@janedoe805 Hello ! As a granny , I can say that you are enterely right ! I like your sense of humor 🥦🤣😂🤣🥦 ¡ Feliz Año nuevo ! ✨
Probably you watched "Marry Popins do Metal"
Doris Day's costumes are so lovely. The fabric, colors and styles are timeless. I love that era and even though I was just a toddler it's my favorite.
Doris's overbite is less noticeable in later films. Did she have it fixed? One or two shots here look like she is going into competition with Francis the Talking Mule.
The choreography is brilliant! He makes it seem so effortless, perfect execution. I'm blown away
And what an incredible sense of balance
And he did his own choreography in most of his films.
Boy Gene had great balance. Terrific dancer. These movies use to be so much fun to watch. They put you in a good mood. There isn't anything like that now days.
Fan and dancer amaizin
Doris Day -A wonderful actress, comedienne, and latterly an ambassador for animals. May she rest in peace. God bless her....'
And jazz vocalist.
Another idiot bringing a god into entertainment.
Loved Doris Day!
jjaus I have a word for you: Tolerance.
Yes indeed. She truly was something.
Love, love, these old flicks....what a talent Gene Nelson was!
I’d never heard of him til now! What a talent !
Wow ....the athleticism of Gene Kelly and the grace of Fred Astaire!
I was just going to say the same thing. And so cute.
And the immediacy of Donald O'Connor.
But the footwork of neither, though he was certainly good enough for the role.
Look on YT for "Tommy Rall" ruclips.net/video/XE0AvrTjDD0/видео.html
And the Coolness of Gene Nelson
I'm in my 30's now, but my Nan introduced me to musicals. One of my favorites was Oklahoma, and I had a major crush on Gene Nelson & Gordon MacRae. There are so many movies I have yet to see from this time period though, I need to watch more!! Such amazing talent and songs/choreography. :-)
So graceful and athletic. What a great performance!
Wonderful! Why didn't hollywood make him a big star like Fred Astaire? Thnx
I love Gene Nelson ALMOST as much as I love Doris Day. Such performers!
That's Gene Nelson and he was quite a dancer. You probably remember as the fleetfooted cowboy dancer from the "Kansas City"' number in Oklahoma.
Thanks for the memory jogger. From dancing with the "Girl Who Can't Say No" to a version of "No, No, Nanette". Great stuff.
OHHHH!!!!! THAT'S where I know him from!!
I love Gene Nelson and just don't understand why he wasn't a bigger star. Maybe it's a matter of timing - maybe he came out too late in the musical era.
@@mehitablestorm8877 Yeah, good point. Hey, how do you say your name? I have an ancestor named Mehitable. I'd never heard that name before. Is it like Meh-HEAT-uh-bull?
@@jennhoff03 I say Meh-HIT-a-bell. It can be spelled a number of ways and I'm sure our ancestors (it's a family name for me too) probably pronounced it different ways :) That's my way.
A Fan in the Fifties and srill have the same admiration for a wonderful dancer and all through his career. I still miss him
Rest In Peace Doris Day
I didn’t know who Gene Nelson was before now, but he was a terrific dancer!
Michael Miller He did some great dancing in Oklahoma with Gordon McRae. He's was a good actor too.
I loved Gene Nelson, saw this aged about 11 or 12. I'm 81. UK
Gene Nelson, Doris Day, Gordon MacRae--all wonderful in their own rights as dancers, singers, and all-around entertainers. I could watch this every day and still be amazed!!
Amaizing song for dancing
Tea for two! Me, sitting alone, enjoying a delicious cup of hot tea. 😊 beautiful classics movies for all times!
Just what I needed. That spin, and the jump to the banister - wow! THAT'S dancing!
I owe the poster of this film clip a debt of gratitude. Thank you very much for exposing me to a piece of film and art - and Gene Nelson, a performer - I had never been aware of and which I enjoyed immensely and felt enriched by.
No matter how many times I see Gene Nelson hoof it up I automatically want to call him Will Parker his character from Oklahoma. LOL
1:18 ...me when I realize that I'll never be able to dance like this...
O my God! I used to love this movie as a kid, tried to dance along! I had forgotten how good Gene Nelson was! (actually, I don't think I really realized how good he was!!)
Between 1930 and 1955, musicals were a Hollywood staple, often produced on fairly small budgets. Frequently, they were improbably plotted melodramas whose sole function was to justify dancing and singing performances by the many talented performers under contract. Virtually all Hollywood players were expected to sing and dance a little, and most studios had instructors them. You need a deep pool of talent to draw upon to produce even an average musical, like Tea for Two.
Rock 'n roll, the advent of TV, and changing cinematic tastes led to darker and more political musicals after 1955, and the competition with TV induced Hollywood to make musicals that were increasingly spectacular and expensive. Consequently, they became less predictably bankable and more formulaic. Few of them have ever matched the sheer fun of the productions during this golden age of Hollywood musicals. Even fewer have matched the incredible talent of the performers and performances captured in these films. The quality speaks for itself.
! That’s talent! 2:02
So much splendered Technicolor copy in 35 millimeters! MERCI BEAUCOUP for this incredible remastered rendering! MERCI BEAUCOUP
This guy was a awesome dancer.
I miss you Doris Day 💕
Ruhe in Frieden ⚘⚘⚘
I love the look of the high-waisted pants. They probably called them "slacks" in those days. Does anyone remember when high-waisted pants came into fashion for women in the 70’s? "Ditto" pants were all the rage. They made your tooshie look so nice! 🤣
What a handsome guy & such a great dancer!!!
That's the 'Auntie Mame' grand staircase he's OWNING!!! WOW!!
I saw Auntie Mame recently. The friend I watched it with had seen this video too. When we saw the staircase in Auntie Mame (which was filmed several years after Tea for Two), I remarked that the reason they had painted the railing white for Mame was that some guy tap danced all over it and scratched the finish so they had to paint it. :-)
wow that's Gene Nelson great great dancer!
that mysterious man at 1:18 is literally me trying to keep my life together - while watching others simply dancing through it..
Lol😆 he was Doris Days grandpa in the film
He was her uncle, not a grandpa.
The actor was S.Z. (Cuddles) Sakall, best known as the waiter in 'Casablanca'.
Cuddles!
Gorgeous and talented...suorised he wasnt much bigger in films.
How was he able to flow like that. Is he that physically amazing?
I've always felt that Gene Nelson had a flexibility and fluidity to his dancing that no other dancer could match.
That's why they say simple dancing is better than complex routines. I love how simple the dancing routine is.
Dancing on steps makes my heart skip a beat.
Gene Nelson & Doris Day in "Lullaby of Broadway" (?)... Another great flick where old tunes are resuscitated for a new story line.
Don't forget his leap to the top of the piano in "Lullaby" and there's always that phenomenal gym routine from "She's Working Her Way Through College". Somehow I suspect that Gene Nelson was the only one who could have done them. What a dancer!
Great to see Doris dance. Such a shame she couldn't continue due to an injury. But certainly could hold her own.
Nelson is every bit as great as Astaire on the steps. Amazing skills. Courageous
Back when men’s pants looked good
LOL!
I hope you're not serious
@Aldo This makes no sense, the pants here are all very baggy and loose. If anything, modern fashion with skinny jeans would emphasize thinness more. You're just looking for any excuse to hate on modern culture whether it makes sense or not.
@@BigOlWalrus There is no modern culture.
@@mehitablestorm8877 Care to expand on that?
I love the esthetics. Evreything is thought out and in sync - colors, choreography, music, uncut shots....... And also there is no political message. This whole clip has soothing effect on me. I finally feel relaxed.
Except that the chubby old guy was actually a german jewish refugee.

An incredible dancing and tapping movies historical couple! BRAVO!
Wow! What talent!
Quelle classe, quelle souplesse, rien à dire, parfait!!!
Quelle belle époque.
That staircase is best remembered in Auntie Mame!
Not only that but I believe that staircase was used in two Bette Davis movies: "Jezebel" in 1938 (?) and "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" around 25 years later.
Gordon: *tap dances on a banister*
Donald O'Connor in roller skates: "I'm about to end this man's whole career."
(JOKING obvi, both are fabulous!)
Nice for dancing skates
@Katie Parker This isn't Gordon MacRae. It's Gene Nelosn.
I can’t believe that is 70 years ago
I like how the men look well put together and have their pants on their waistline, not sagging under their behinds.
Smiles galore. It’s nice to see happy people enjoying the moment.
Very true as time has gone on crass and classless people are starting to emerge. They had their outfits on point in this!
Agree!!!!
Yes, those trousers are thousand times sexier than today sagging, shapeless jeans. And GN has a great ass!
The thing about today, is that you can wear whatever you like! If you like a specific fashion and wear it, no one will be at your throat. You just have to be modern enough yourself to accept it ;)
@@joshdrayton1230 I remember selling Mens clothing in the late 70s during the end of the disco period and having a brand of those high waisted pants with thin belts , you had to be fairly trim to pull it off. Obviously Gene Nelson is in great shape , he was about 29-30 when he did this movie
Brings back memories. Loved all these movies.
Wow! What dancing!
This is when America movie was GREAT ...with ...song..who knows INDIAN movie...
This man dancing in the stairs is something really amazing!
Great to see "Cuddles" off stage.

Gosh, I fell in love with the dancer. He is really cool and very handsome. I think I will never find such a man
I gave him my heart from the first dance.
I can barely walk up the stairs without tripping and falling on my face. Meanwhile this guy is tap dancing on the railing and doing aerial flips.
AWESOME I TOTALLY LOVE THIS PICTURE
Me impressiona a ausência de comentários sobre o grupo musical. Acordeon sensacional, guitar, clarinete Bb, vibes, bass and drums. E que arranjo!!!
Those girls are sooo beautiful! Not just the bodies but the faces are stunning!
che capolavoro, che disinvoltura e perfezione. Che bellezza vedere la scena del ballerino sulle scale e sul corrimano in scioltezza e perfetta sincronia con la musica. Grazie

Very cool!
Interesting seeing this time around the various cuts in the scene. Always thought that it was a one shot. Still pretty good!
You have no idea how much I envy Doris in that dress...
Love Miss Day's lavender dress. She wears it well.
What a pitty that Gene Nelson, the soloist dancer, fell into oblivion. He was fabulous.
As musicals began to grow out of favor, Gene Nelson went on to direct movies and television shows. He also appeared on Broadway in "Follies" and an ill-fated revival of "Good News."
Cirque du soleil with Tap Shoes. This is phenomenal.
