Featuring the songs "Three Little Words," "Who's Sorry Now," "Thinking of You" and "Where Did You Get That Girl."

Without question, Vera-Ellen is one of the most underrated dancers that should be getting more credit with the likes of Ginger Rogers and Cyd Charisse.
I love Ginger, but she is not in the same league as Vera-Ellen and Cyd.
@@eleanorpowellfan oh she most definitely is
@@eleanorpowellfan Ginger was perfect for the time, after the roaring 20’s. Ginger and all others back then played a part, decided by the studio owners, producer and director. If you have issues with Ginger then blame someone else first…she was very talented and her numerous screen appearances attest to that… My mother once said to me if you bring home either Ginger or Eleanor you can marry them. Cod, Vera, Rita, you cannot marry them…hahaha! My mom was 92 last month…
@@eleanorpowellfan speaking of Eleanor Powell.... My favorite!!! Cyd Charisse... AMAZING!! The ballet in "singing in the rain" wow! Also the boxing gym number in "always fair weather". But Vera Ellen has that mix of ballet and tap that not every dancer could pull off.
@@matthieuschmitter6676 Amazing dancer in ballet. Love her work on "Daddy Long Legs"
I don’t see where anybody realizes that Fred Astaire was 51 when he did this movie! So many people nowadays can’t even move like that when they’re 31! In fact there’s not even teenagers that have that much energy either! His strength, stamina and agility was amazing!!!!
We’ll he started training as a toddler with his older (and more talented) sister. He just never stopped.
@@Palidor19 Food was food and good back then all the people I know that started sports as a child are worn out and done in their 50’s. Quality matters and all the GMO grains, fruits and vegetables have only served corporations.
Vera Ellen is still one of the most beautiful actresses I've ever seen. Pure talent, insane dancer, and a smile that could melt gold.
Agreed on every point....Altthough I must be a bit pedantic here, and say that Gold does not have a very high melting oint
Yes. That is exactly how you should leave a room.
Devi Fitz That flat/apartment had really thin walls.... I hope they got a reduction in their rent😉
LOL 😂
The Incredible Hulk used to leave the room that way all the time on his TV show back in the late 70s!
Devi Fitz 😂😂😂
hahahaha!!! you're right!
If every married couple lived like this, just dancing and not talking, there would be no divorces lol 😂
Great for dancing
Lol they would be so out of breath they wouldn’t have the energy to argue lol. 😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Um...at one point she hits him over the head and slaps his face!
if men come home from work like this everyday, the wives would be happier lol
No divorces and maybe not any surviving children, lol.
As a kid, I got SO tired of seeing Mom and Dad go through this routine every night at 5PM.
I know right..the top of my head is flat Where they dropped me on it.
🤣🤣
Turns out we wouldn't have it any other way XD
yeah me too, particularly the kicking out of the cot got to be a bit much after I turned 15
Demef 😂🤣 for my folks it was late 50’s twist and jive 😂🤣 was so exhausting just getting to the dinner table 😂🤣
Good Lord, I burned 1500 calories just watching that.
Sure... Why don't you just make a second step and the third one and the world will appear wonderful... 'cause dance makes the world go around, of course !!!
@@WitoldBanasik then keep dancing, and you will go places
Hahahaha
😂😂😂
W. Banasik has
This should be an Olympic sport
Also they way they yeeted that baby all over the place cracks me up!
It was playing with the kid before going off to work. And she was just kissing him goodbye---right through the wall
Fred Astaire and Vera Ellen. Two of the greatest!
I love her fashions....and people back then danced brilliantly.
They forgot to include the disclaimer "Do not attempt " during the baby scene. Oh those nutty 1950's.
I believe your stating a little sarcasm I hope. Back in that day the people weren't timid stupid idiots. They new it was only a movie and a doll. No big deal.
@@tootalazaaz Because they weren't indoctrinated yet. It was too soon after WW2.
The baby is now grown and suffers from PTDD--Post Traumatic Dance Disorder.
Considering they advised pregnant women to smoke cigarettes back then, I wouldn’t be surprised if they said slam dunking the baby once and a while is good for their health lol rough em up a bit. 😂 😂😂
The baby oh my god lmaooo
Dolce Dandy terrible parents
🤣🤣🤣
gO LONG
Dolce Dandy 😂😂😂
She was so amazing! You can see her balletic prowess as she taps! WOW!
Wow! You sure don't see talent like that anymore!
yes u do. Ever heard of Broadway?
@@pianoandkpop that's not true at all. Did u see the comment of the professional dancer that even said that this dance routine sucks.
I guarantee this isn’t much of a challenge to any professional dancer today.
Tarzan - 😂🤣😂
@@pugassassin5591 To compare Broadway to this is insulting... Broadway is nowhere near the Golden Age of Hollywood.
I just saw this for the first time.
Wow.
As a dancer, I've long been told that my main job is to make my partner look good. Fred Astaire is so gifted, his partners end up making HIM look good. But Vera-Ellen is no appendage. I once read that Vera-Ellen is one of only two dancers (Eleanor Powell being the other) who could keep up with Fred Astaire. She kept up with him in this routine, and they both pull it off flawlessly.
Well, almost flawlessly . . . you just don't handle a baby that way . . .
I agree, Fred and Vera-Ellen were marvelous together, such a shame they only collaborated on two movies. Eleanor Powell was a fantastic dancer - apparently so good even Fred was intimidated by her, in his words she 'put 'em down like a man' - but she perhaps lacked some of the chemistry his other partners had with him.
Probably my favourite partner for Fred was Rita Hayworth; again they only did two movies together, but they were so brilliant. See if you can find 'So Near Yet So Far' from You'll Never Get Rich, they are incredibly well matched in that number!
Vera Allen and Elanor Powell were the most athletic of the dancers I have seen from this period.
Candy Jones Also, she was 22 years younger than Fred, 29 to his 51 when this film was made.
@@lindashelley3635I don't think many dancers have been better than Fred Astaire.
coreycox2345 Oh, I totally agree with you there! Fred, along with Gene Kelly and (to a slightly lesser degree) Donald O’Connor were to me the three greatest film dancers. I simply meant that Vera-Ellen, being so much younger, must have had more physical energy than Fred at that time.
Gene kelly called Vera Ellan the best all-around dancer in movies. I couldn't agree more!
No matter how many times I watch this it never gets old
As in "White Christmas", I always find myself looking just at her during the routines. And those legs!!!
What a dancer! Did a good acting job in White Christmas also.
Beautiful. Are there still athletic, graceful, rambunctious, story telling, sprightly, springy dancers like these nowadays?
There are many better "dancers" nowadays (and I was a dancer in that period); it's the music and style and taste that has changed. Can't include Astaire because he was "unique" and a "star" as opposed to just a dancer. (Dancers, like ice skaters and all other athletes have improved over the years with new training methods and diets, etc., etc., etc.)
Yes! Just look to Broadway!
No because we are all miserable
I've not seen any in a long time, but I would hope so, where in time. . . . donrjr
Noo WAY!!! All the insurance and lawyers involved? Political incorrect this and that? There would be 3 hours of disclaimers and they would cut that number short.
Fred Astaire is truly hypnotic to watch.
Back in a era of pure poetry, magic, elegance and decency.
Such a joy to see Vera Ellen dancing with Fred Astaire! Wonderful :)
Yes! Finally a better quality version of this clip. I love this sequence. Vera Ellen could do any type of dancing couldn't she?
Yep, she sure could! She was an Incredible Dancer & Actress. Truly One of a Kind the Likes of Which We Will Never See Again.
I don't think that people nowadays will appreciate this kind of art.
Kent Ibardolaza Kent, put this on your social media pages... send it to your friends... spread this video around and give people the opportunity to appreciate it!
@@tim2015 yes I already did Sir. I've been teaching folkdance in our province and at break time I show this to my dancers. Eventually, they like it. 😊❤️
Miss those days
‘People nowadays’. Uh huh. Like ‘people nowadays’ aren’t watching this on youtube and giving out thousands of likes
And yet here we are, nowadays, watching it and appreciating it.
Hey, that's how I clear off the dishes!
Did you wonder where the toaster went in the next shot? 😉
Amazing duo here!!! Vera-Ellen was so pretty and I just love both of their outfits!!!!
Oh my gosh that is literally how I walk around the house 😂
👍 I love the old classics! ❤️❤️
Always nice to play with the baby before putting her to bed! I just love how Hollywood could tell a story (with an arc!) through dance and music. And the dancers performing at their peak all while juggling props like nobody's business. Vera-Ellen held her own and then some with Fred! He just loved dancing with her.
Well I've never seen this peice of film before.... brilliant..... thanks for loading it to RUclips
Watching her smile is a joy.
I love seeing someone recently here 😔✋🏿
Vera was just fabulous and Beautiful!
Love these old movies I wish we still had drive ins to watch them on
Vera Ellen was absolutely spectacular.
Wow, I thought I saw every Fred Astaire / Vera Ellen dance routine on YT. This is awesome hoofin' @ home! Love the bright colorful costumes & set. I'm out a breath!!
The only thing they didn't do to the baby was slam dunk
Would you believe there were others who you may not have heard of who danced. There was a type of dance called "Wing", and a type called "Buck". See the 1950's film, 42nd Street, for example. There were two brothers who play as Afro-American
Dancers. There was a pair that could dance up on a wall as well. See
Gregory Hines exhaustive work;"Tap!"
I agree Ginger and Fred were as good as Formal Tap Dance perfectionist work can get.
The whimsical world of dance was so gifted by these artists.
I love that the choreography for her is like a Ballet-Tap fusion!
And gymnastics!
@@sarasmith5110 Same combo of styles as Eleanor Powell. Vera-Ellen began in pictures the year EP quit, and is her closest successor.
The difference is that Ellie knew what she wanted and got it, whereas Vera-Ellen (like, say, Rita Hayworth or George Murphy) let herself be schooled by the studio. Not that the results weren't generally stunning. But Powell's hypnotic blend of assertiveness and radiance flows from her soul, and is unique in 90 years of sound film.
@@esmeephillips5888 what even is the point of this backhanded comment

First time I see that... wow ! And I'm a fan of Fred Astair... just wow !!!!
Astaire must've had staff screen his partners because the gentlemen had so many great dancing partners. Vera Ellen was but another underrated.
Baby: "what just happened?"
Wow, just wow! I was breathless just watching this, such talent!
Mr. Fred Astaire/Miss Vera Ellen genious.
Grandi!!!! Ho passato l'infanzia a sognare con loro. Grandi e teneri ricordi.
Vera Ellen was such a great dancer! She really holds her own here with the master; Fred Astaire!
ヴェラ・エレンのダンスの精度。アステアの相手、ジーン・ケリーのパートナーにふさわしい。美人でコミカルな魅力に溢れていて、本当に素敵だよ。
The two greatest dancers ever finally dancing together.
I know, right!
Astaire made any of his partners look great. it's one of the " secrets' to his incredible success. -----And, Vera ellen was certainly one truly great dancer. --------------------------Wolfsky9, 72 y/o
Wow great dance
Thank you so much for this high quality clip! Four solid minutes of dancing to a narrative story. Just brilliant. Three Little Words is a very entertaining film altogether, with great music and terrific numbers.
Awwww! The good ole days! ❤️👏🏻
By gee this is swelll, these dames & broads knew how to swing.
My three favorite dance routines are this one, coffee time and with tap dance with Rita Hayworth , the shorty George. Astaire seems to enjoy dancing those particular numbers
Qué entrañable y maravillosa pareja Fred Astaire y Vera Ellen ... Y qué baile tan simpático y técnicamente perfecto exhiben en esta filmación. Artistas de alto nivel que hoy es difícil encontrar ...
Pretty impressive!
Fred Astaire was 51 years old here, and have more energy than I have and I am 32 at the moment.
I love Fred and Vera but never have seen this film great number!! 💚💛💜🧡
Add the phone bit at 1:33 to Fred Astaire's routines with the coat rack, the golf club, the drums and oh so many canes! Anything that man touched became more graceful and animated, whether a female partner or some everyday object. Almost supernatural.
Soundtrack by Andre Previn, a very young member of MGM's resplendent music department.
This is an example of the wilder ideas and harder edge Fred's collaboration with Hermes Pan gained after WW2. The baby-chucking would not have been seen in an RKO musical of the 1930s.
Vera-Ellen's marionettish face and head-wagging propensities are well harnessed in this jerky slapstick. 'Three Little Words' was a personal favorite of Fred's.
I’ve never seen this clip before. All I can say is take it easy on baby! And I liked it, many thoughts put into this very short and wonderful dance scene.
Mate, I could watch this stuff all day, just brilliant. And wonderful to see it in colour - so many of these old clips are in B&W, and I can't help but wonder when I watch them how spectacular they would have been in colour.
i imagine my wife doing that as soon as im out of the house

Vera- Ellen best and most gorgeous dancer ever!!
Bruh, the baby XD
Imagine you come home and u and ur wife start dancing just like that 😂
Ésto es esencialmente magnífic, como Fred Astaire solo hay uno.
Oh my - how is it possible I've never seen the adorable number? So delightful!
Every time I see a new dance excerpt featuring Vera Ellen, my opinion is reinforced that she was definitely the best female dancer in Hollywood. She was so supple which is why her body could move with such swiftness and agility. Her experience as a ballet dancer is also in full evidence. Sure this number of Vera and Fred is good, but to see the very best of their dances, you will have to see "The Belle of New York". Vera's dancing is mind blowing, the likes of which you can never ever hope to see again on the silver screen. My best male dancer was without doubt, Tommy Rall. Boy, did he have every move in the book plus looks!!!
Eso eran tiempos maravillosos referente al baile. M quito el sombrero q elegancia. Soberbio!
