I love coming back to this recipe tutorial when I make curry! It always comes out delicious, my boyfriend loves it and I double ingredients for leftovers! 🍛😋

I’m a Japanese man. I recommend to mince unions and fry up until their color change to yellow ocher. (1:57) That adds the sweetness of curry. And I suggest everyone cooking Japanese curry to fry up minced garlic after onions. That adds the curry flavor. Almost homemade Japanese curries are made up like this. Japanese curry will lead you into amazing cuisine world.
I tried making this once and for the first time in my life..my dad (who's a chelf), praised me! He said that it tasted better than he expected (since all the other dishes I tried to make I had to throw it out) and he even asked for second! I've never been more proud of myself T^T
I like the Japanese curry rice so much, every time I eat them, remind me of my university life. Even now, i cook this dish often for my wife: ) thanks for sharing this warm food.
This looks so good! My mom's coworker just bought us two boxes of mild vermont curry and we were a little confused by the instructions (they say to use one box of the sauce mix, we didn't know if it meant one of the little prepackaged boxes inside, or the entire box) but your video is nice and easy to follow! Thank you~
I had curry rice for dinner tonight! Honestly, it's one of my new favorite things. Easy to make, super cheap (one onion, one potato, and some chicken, plus carrots) and it tastes great! I made it on a whim about a month ago, and I have made it almost once a week since.
@@poriji I HAS been six years (wow... I'm old). I usually start, if I'm making it just for me, with two. Let that dissolve, and then I add more. I usually cook for me and my wife (oh how things have changed lol) and I use a full block (so four pieces) in a pot.
I just made this for my family for the first time- wasn't sure if they would have liked it or not until i saw them go back for seconds!! ^-^ thanks for the recipe!!
I tried it ochikeron, lovely and simple!! Thanks for sharing this and I really enjoy your show and the style of presentation. So very clear and organized! I also had to make my own roux and it turned out quite nice, better than I had hoped. :)
Watching this now Jan 21, 2022 - Loved Curry Rice so much! I think i only tried twice. Now i got myself the curry roux and wanna cook some for my family!
I saw this video and decided to give this curry a try. I didn't use Vermont because the only flavor available was this honey apple flavor and I really wanted basic spicy curry. So I used Golden Curry instead. Anyway, I really enjoyed this recipe! It's really simple and easy for me to make (it took only less than 30 minutes even with prep time.) And it's so nice to eat it for lunch! Thanks so much!
I never try to make it. This is the first vid I'm watching and I've got it. This is the best vid.. no need to look further. Thank you very much.. ochikeron!!!
I love curry rice! My daughter brought home cubes from Japan (where she lives), and we ate homemade curry rice; I also ate restaurant curry rice during a recent trip to Japan to visit my daughter. DELICIOUS!
I'm making this tonight for my family for dinner for the first time because while I was in Japan last summer I really enjoyed eating カレー!I'm excited to try your recipe out and hope my family enjoys it as much as I do!
I tried making Japanese curry today for the first time and used Vermont Curry Roux :) Thank you for making this video! It was so easy to follow, and tasted delicious!
I hope you know that I tried this for the very first time in my life when I was 30 years old. My brother in law made it for me with lots of wild mushrooms, tofu, and soy curls. He added apple as the special ingredient. My husband added the caramelized onion. We haven't stopped making Japanese curry!! I thought Indian curry would be my favorite, but they're both amazing!!
I pretty much have most of these ingredients at home :) all I need to get is the curry from my local SamsClub. thank you so much for the easy tutorial and can't wait to enjoy this curry recipe :D
Hi, to answer your question, yes I eat many times the home made curry rice when I was a nanny of japanese kids here in Rotterdam. I love it and I learned from the japanese mums how to make it. I love your videos and it brings back to me so many memories. Thank you
My host family made me curry rice when I was staying with them in Japan last month. I was so excited ! It's one of my favorite dishes. I even had seconds ! I'm excited now that I can make it myself.
I made this for me and my parents for dinner last night. I'm bad at cooking but this was really easy and really good. My mom even went back for seconds (which is rare)
I actually found the house Vermont curry at an international market here in Kansas. Made it today for dinner. I love it!! So good, thanks for the recipe!
Just made this recipe! I'm a vegetarian, so without meat. I was afraid it would taste bland, but it was super tasty! My boyfriend who isn't a vegetarian loved it too. I added sweet potatoes :)
Hi! Is Mccormick a good substitute for Vermont? I think this is the only available curry powder brand in my country. Thanks! I really like your video. It's awesome;)
I tried it and it works just fine!! for someone who is now living alone (and have to cook everything alone) this recipe really helps! And moreover the way you explain to us is really clear and understandable! (: Thank you! You save my life! hehehehehe

yes, you'll be fine without adding onions, although at someone who grew up hating onions... they get soft, and you can't really 'taste' the onion itself, sort of blends in. So I put them in and it's fine. You can always chop them smaller as well, they become mostly invisible. You could also add in peas, garbanzo beans, lentils, corn, etc.
Japanese curry rice tastes sooooo good ! There is a neighborhood in paris in which you can find a lot of little japanese ramen restaurants, and many of them serve that dish too ! Thank you for the recipe, it's really nice to have a tutorial for basic preparation :)
We make Japanese curry a lot. My Japanese mom when she came for a visit would grate apple into the curry same time she added the rue. It was delicious. Glad to see you can still get Vermont curry. We can only get S&B brand here lately.

i am a mexican american man but agree minced onions do improve texture and flavor of this recipe. will be adding garlic soon!

How many blocks would you use if using just one veggie each? I just wanna make enough for myself too!
Its been six years but we still need to know how many blocks you use..

IT'S REALLY DELICIOUS! My previous kare raisu experience at a restaurant was really bad. But this kicks ass!
Can I use Golden curry instead of Vermont curry? Will I get almost the same result? (:

i was so surprised my local farmers market carried Vermont curry! i bought it and am so excited to finally try this dish thank you ochikeron :).

I keep curry blocks in my cabinet ALWAYS. I am in love with Curry from the first taste. I like to add a Jalapeno pepper to mine to make it spicy.
Sounds great!
