- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
- In today's video, Stephen sits down with Steve Davis to ask him 10 (not so) quick questions. The questions include Steve's thoughts on which World title win is his favourite, which current player is most like himself and even which food he loves the most.
Before meeting Steve, we also get an access all areas tour of the Masters by Stephen. This behind-the-scenes takes a look at the BBC's studio, the incredible Alexandra Palace arena and even snooker's impressive hospitality set-up.

Steve Davis will always be relevant in snooker
Without any shadow of a doubt
@@elmondo3543 I read that in Virgo's voice. "This young man...!" I still think the BBC need to bring back Big Break. Virgo's still got it in him and Richard Osmond might be a good presenter (far less annoying/cringe than Jim Davidson anyway).
Well said!!
He’ll always be my hero.
@@AD-kv9kj its a good shout. Always loved big break. Stephen Fry is a if snooker fan and another possibility.
Steve and Stephen are a brilliant double act.
There's something delightfully Alan Partridge about this whole video, and I mean that in the complimentary sense
Agreed!
@@ejayman please ask Steve what he thinks about the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre.
@@juchetony1910I imagine he'd be dead against it
@@ejayman and what's his favourite butcher's shop in Romford? And what does he think of monkey snooker?
This RUclips channel is rekindling my long dormant interest in watching snooker on TV again. Great stuff!
Mine too
Nice profile pic
@@stu2333 i am curious as to why you say that your interest in snooker dwindled as to me the game has never been better with things like the shootout championship league and the 900 recently and of course the World Championship UK Championship the masters the four home nations events as well as the itv events all of which I enjoy
@@stewartmcrae8007 A number of different reasons I suppose. It lost some of its allure to me after the early 2000s albeit I'd still tune in to watch if Ronnie was playing for some time after that.
I just looked into what it's like nowadays and all I'm seeing are news stories of a ten players being banned for suspected fixing so that's not exactly inspiring me to watch the sport again if its integrity is now in question.
@@sambagogo777 yes unfortunately that is not a good look for snooker and it is overshadowing a lot more positive things and some success stories and rising stars in the game i am not sure exactly why the focus is on something negative i guess it is makes for a more juicy story i hope that we never see those Chinese players again don't let a few bad apples spoil the game for you
Could listen to those 2 snooker legends Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis talk all day.
I love Steve Davis! I only recently found out about his music ventures and was utterly delighted by this. I hope he makes a RUclips channel of his own one day and hope to see him (if not in exhibition) then performing music. What a legend and what a lovely and learned man. True gent and true legend!
I think it would be great if Steve was a regular contributor to this channel, they have such good chemistry together.
Legends! I can't get enough of this channel. Thanks Stephen
Steve is called interesting ironically because people felt he was boring but he actually is an interesting and brilliant character.
Yes he just didn't show it much during his snooker heydays in the 80's. Just like Stephen didn't do during his dominant decade in the 90's.
I am in the US. Never played snooker. Started watching it about a year and a half ago. Some folks from the US would love to go to a Super Bowl. I would like to go to this.
Bring back Big Break on the BBC! Virgo can still do that and maybe Richard Osmond could be a good host!
This should be longer, fantastic channel 👏
Who knew I was an influencer? Cheers, Steve Davis, your support and kindness is so appreciated! Ambiently yours, hahaha
Another excellent video Stephen. Brilliant RUclips channel. Steve Davis as well as being one of the best snooker players is always humble and has a great since of humour. Great work Stephen and Steve.
I really think this channel has the ability to spread the love of snooker beyond the hardcore fans, and get it back to somewhat of it's 80's/ 90's glory days.
Snooker just needs a bigger budget and effort on promotion. I “accidentally” fell in love with snooker because it was big for a little while some 10 or so years ago in Germany; saw it on tv and it stuck with me. Many I have shown the sport immediately loved it! Cue sports are very attractive (who doesn’t immediately wanna play when one sees a pool table?) and snooker being so precise, with such a huge table and strategy and all; it just is a great sport. Quite a few actually know the sport, but no one really considers it as a sport you actually watch, follow and are interested in; despite it being so interesting. So odd!
I just love the fact that an absolute Legend (capital on purpose, because he is), is taking us around the current snooker tour as well as giving an insight into his past battles.
We need more of this from snooker as a whole - promoting the sport as it is now and getting the fans involved.
For me, without spectators, snooker dies and so does every sport on the planet.
It should inspire people who govern the sport - as well as current players - that when Stephen makes videos like this, they need to wake up and see how quickly his channel has grown and start making an effort the same.
It is in their interest to promote the sport, and right now, a retired played who is the best to ever pick up a cue is carrying them along.
Thank you, Stephen.
*second best
@@jonpearse6465 Not at all! Hendry is the GOAT and Ronnie is a very close second!
@@MaffeyZilog Not sure about your criteria for achieving goat status, but if you go by the statistics, it's Ronnie. On every one.
@@jonpearse6465 Ronnie is still playing at 47. Hendry did everything in just over ten years (including the 7 world titles that it took Ronnie how many years to get to? Oh yeah, 22 years)
@@MaffeyZilog So achieving less, but in a shorter space of time in a field of substandard players makes him better? The fact Ronnie's even still ABLE to compete at 47 should tell you all you need to know. Hendry is a legend, no doubt, but your argument makes so sense. The entire snooket community, and even Hendry himself acknowledge that Ronnie's the greatest ever. Its just a fact.
Fantastic channel Mr Hendry sir, keep up the good work 👌👌👌
O'boy,,, I mean this guy really delivers.🤙🏼🤙🏼
Enjoyed that very much. Thanks guys.
Love these videos Stephen. Please keep the behind the scenes stuff coming. Also, more stuff with Steve Davis, you've got a great rapport together
Love these videos! Can you get Jack Lisowski on the show?
that would be excellent Reanne would be great too
It's just a shame snooker isn't popular with the younger generations.
Collaborations, inviting creators etc to events and sessions could do WONDERS for the sport.
Still, was great to meet ya last year at the Sullivan/friends event.
The younger generations are far to impatient, winds me up !!!
I’m 16, I love snooker :)
2 Absolute legends
Hendry is a natural at this. He should work for the BBC.
Brilliant channel as to what goes on behind the snooker curtain.. Be good to see somin with Ronnie and /or Jimmy... 🎱
Gosh Stephen not knowing the Higgins/Thorburn SAS 1980 final. Very very surprised & slightly embarrassing!
This channel is the best thing about snooker at the moment. A timely development and a much needed one for the game. Well done Stephen and all of those involved in this excellent output 👏
Well said
Love these videos!!.. Quick and snappy!
Pure pleasure this channel for a snooker fan, nice one Wonder Bairn :)
Davis and Hendry UK tour please.
Mr Hendry, you have a gift for conversation. Keep up the good work!!!
This channel has single handedly got me back into watching and being interested in snooker. Thx Stephen - Loving it!
The amount of respect in Steve's voice when he said "not you!" to the question, "who did you like playing the most?"
Stephen Hendry is total class....at everything!!!
Steve Davis is the most wonderful of humans.
Unless he beat you 9-0 in a match!
Loving the recent stuff yr doing with Davis , big fan of u both back in the day , u should do more together maybe a podcast 👍
Top Video Stephen, keep em coming champ
Love this channel, found my love of snooker again. Great dry humor.
The Nugget is always good value. Great stuff.
This channel is the greatest thing to happen to snooker since Ronny getting on the right meds.
*searches RUclips for Davis favourite band*
Never heard of em.
Magma is unworldly. As fascinating as Steve himself.
Steve Davis is surprisingly interesting
Great channel Stephen your a natural 👍
Fantastic 😀😀
Hold on a minute 😳 1:16
Yeah Hendry is correct, they interrupted the Snooker because the SAS were storming the Iranian Embassy back in 1980.
Another excellent vid Stephen. You're a natural in front of the camera. Keep 'em coming!
Eurosport has a studio?! Having watched snooker on Eurosport, I always assumed the commentators were broadcasting from Joe Johnson's garden shed.
I remember back in the day how much Steve Davis was slagged for being robotic, unapproachable, humourless and dull. That always killed me. Anybody paying attention back then could see the man was on a mission, putting on a show; he had crafted a public-facing demenour, but there were leaks. The man has always been incredibly humourous. He just kept that side hidden. Mr Davis, Sir, if I could, I would give my chalk away to sit down over a pint with you. And same goes for Hendry; somehow, he's gotten much nicer as he's aged.
The VIP areas view isn't that good but I doubt many will be there for the snooker anyway similar to many VIP areas throughout sport.
6:48 Toffs Muswell Hill - London England around 30 years ago were the best and I'm sure they still are. Done properly!
Nothing boring about this!
Great content, great channel, well done Stephen 👏
Well said 👍🏻
Well that was really good Stephen love the questions and answers with Steve Davis really good 2 c the in and outs of the Arena fantastic also I don't know how to use Instagram im dyslexic I talk into my phone and hope that it comes out right but loving the channel mate
I wasn’t a fan of Davis or Hendry when I was a kid. They beat my favourite Jimmy White all the time. But I always appreciate what they did for the game. Great players. Nobody loves the serial winner at the time but they leave their mark in history
Would love to see you discuss the golden oldies like Sidney Smith and Alec Brown
Aww get in, my question got asked (most common beginner mistake) and the Nugget said exactly what I feared - lifting the head! Something I've been trying to squeeze out of my own game 😂
Shows you the mentality of two ultimate winners right there. Both of them chose the world championship where they destroyed their opponent.
Great stuff!
John Parrott's face after hearing Steve's comments about the 18-3 drubbing...😠😡🤬
Ronnie probably will get 8 or more if he put in the work like he did for no.7, although he said he never...he did! Just like Stephen to beat Steve's 6, Ronnie will want that 8. Personally Ronnie probably should have had more by now and Stephen should have had more bk then, so should Steve probably have gotten more, both dominated a decade, was unbelievable really, but to not get more, it is what it is, tbh though 6/7 still is plenty, and all Legends, with a mountain of World Championships. ✌🏽
Only Steve Davis could make a quick question interesting more like! I havn't the foggiest as to whom or what Steve was referring but it sounded interesting! 😉😉😂😂😂
Great insight , mr hendry very good at this
Surely Mechanical Destructive Commando should be better known as MDC not MDK 🤔 or is it a German spelling or something?
To be honest the view from the “vip” area looks terrible and it pains me to hear people like Trump asking for more corporate hospitality at events. Basically just asking for more wealthy spectators. Disgusting really, that’s what happened to football. Unaffordable now
Very good stuff - please extend this concept with other players.
Nice to see Stephen Hendry in good form - the greatest player to my mind in his peak.
Nice to hear from Steve Davis also - you are not irrelevant sir!
One question for Stephen Hendry - slightly cheeky and i think very challenging all at the same time.
Do you think that in the last eight to six seasons if not more of your career, if you had adjusted your matchplay to slightly more coy or cute less defensive, you would have definately reached more semis and finals, if not have won more tournaments and by extension, produced more centuries and even maximums?
Finally, my point is that Stephen Hendry was unable or unwilling to alter his philosophy and play in professional snooker to be assertive on a average day, more so, advanced and aggressive in seeking to win the frame at every opportunity he addressed the table.
I observed matches that Stephen Hendry could and should have won if he was able to be as open to change as Ronnie O'Sullivan was.
This is less spoken of, but at one point RO worked with Ray Reardon and that altered his approach to one of more balance and achieved competent safety play if not beyter and i just think Stephen Hendry is underated and had he had the longevity of his career that RO has had - i believe Stephen Hendry would have been far more prolific on all the metrics that count with regard to judging the greatest players of the modern era.
Also, i think Steve Davis mentioned in the other interview you did that he saw practicing with a very decent player - say a top 8 player - as countenance to his own wellbeing or rather, self-interest. It stands to reason that the number one player is gaining little as opposed to the up and coming player who gains immeasurably from such a practicing partner.
I wonder if Stephen Hendry practicing with John Higgins so much in some way relates to this narrative of Steve Davis.
Finally, the matches that are memorable to my point of Stephen Hendry not displaying nouse and a different form of intellect around the snooker table that to my mind cost him the match and tournament are, the World Championship finals with Ebdon and Doherty.
I don't believe Stephen Hendry should have lost those matches and i think the era Stephen Hendry played in was stuffed full of astonishing talent and competition that again, must be considered when deducing who is the greatest.
That said, Ronnie O'Sullivan is naturally supreme but just as Denman wiped the floor with Kauto Star when they contended the Gold Cup - Hendry beat O'Sullivan and finished off with a 147 in the final frame.
Had to check out Magma by MDK after Steve’s recommendation, my word Steve, subjective I know but that is dire😂
Steve's sweater blends into the background of the commentary box. All that can be seen is a floating head...is Steve, the ghost of Alexandra Palace. 👻
What were the odds in 1990 that Steve Davis and Stephen Hendrey would become a highly entertaining comedy duo one day??!!
I'd have put my mortgage on Steve's favourite meal being chicken "nuggets".
Steve Davis was my fav player growing up and off the table he's as much a legend too...Steve u will always be relevant to Snooker...Take a bow Steve...🎱👏🏻👍🏻
He really didn't want to upset you with the Ronnie answer did he? "Interesting"
Steve was a bit boring and didnt smile much but he was working. Like he says, your misses doesnt smile.much when shes washing up.
Love it thank you! Apart from Steve please get Jimmy on, he was my idol growing up and. A lot of my memories are you beating him at the world championship which upset me so much. I grew up and accepted it eventually though😁
I hate to add this comment, simply because there were 147 comments when I watched the video. The Perfect number. Sorry, Stephen.
Who would ever believe that Steve Davis would be in a band with members of Cardiacs and Coil...fact is truly stranger than fiction
Love utopia strong from steve and co. Hifi advice - i'm your man. Also a massive snooker fan.
Steve Davis oh dear really a man i would like to talk and listen to some strange music. pure class!
Brilliant vid stephen can you get ronnie on that will be box office?
Brilliant 👏
Who doesn't like Steve Davis? No one........ Good just as well 👏💚
Davis goes on about beating Parrot in the one sided 1989 World Final but fails to mention he beat a young Stephen Hendry in the Semi Final !
What a venue
Maybe delve into more dark and serious matters one time, like matchfixing or substance (ab)use. Love to hear your take on that.
Steve Davis, these days more into Controlling Voltage than controlling the Cue Ball.
This is awesome. The 'coms' box looks daunting, more like a cockpit.
Love, love, love this channel. Superb content Mr Hendry, please keep em coming!
Thanks for the upload Stephen. You're such a great ambassador for the sport and the vlogs and vids are taking it to another level 👍
Stephen, please do a collaboration with Break From Life!
God I fucking love Steve Davis.
What's the crack with this telegram advert in your channel name Stephen? Is it legit?
VIP seats suck - worst distance possible. I guess the chicken sticks and beer are more important up there.
The Uk championship is the second biggest tournament on the calender, not the masters
Steve Davis is the kind of dad that you wish your girl had when she first takes you home to meet the parents. Bloody gentelman.
Can anyone tell me what those little practice tables are called from the "games area"? One of them looked like a good practice cueing table you could have at home.
Would you consider a little match against Break from life?
Enjoyed this, keep this type of video coming!
God I love this channel. Stephen, you're such a pro when it comes to presenting these days - so confident. And obviously you've got the respect of the entire snooker world so hearing you talk with legends and current top pro's is such a joy.
I don't play snooker as I'm uttelry terrible, but this is fast becoming one of my favourite channels, great content, thanks.
The Steve and Stephen show should go on tour all around the country telling all their stories.
You’re puffing and blowing a bit after those stairs mate!
The PDC needs to do more of this BTS stuff for the darts fans. Great stuff.
