5 or 6 bagels before starting the race? That’s an impressive amount of food before running mate! More power to you. I just hit two pieces of bread with peanut butter haha.
I was supposed to run at 9am. But I did not want to wait 3 hours for the start. Got to the ferry at 7:00am. I WENT LIGHT! Only my running gear, nothing extra like jackets or pants and it was cold. I got to Staten Island at 7:30am, the busses WERE SUPER FAST TO ARRIVE! Every 5 mins 10-15 busses will come. The longest part was the bus ride! It took like 40 mins. But I got to the place I was supposed to be at around 8:25 after leaving the bus. And got to my corrals at 8:35am. I stretch and got there at exactly the time I wanted to be, which was close to the start time hehe. Ps. There are a lot of opportunities to pee! The ferry station and the ferry (PLEASE USE THEM! They are better than anything after that, since everything else will be crowded).
I ran this back in 2019. It was one of my favorite marathons. I watched all of your hacks back then and it really helped prepare me. Thanks DirtyOldSneakers!!!!!
Hi ran nyc marathon in 2008 and for sure i remember that the easiest part of the job was just... run!! All the stuff pre and post race are somehow boring or create anxiety. It is a Marathon inside a Marathon
Great tips as always 👍🏻 it’s worth noting that there is no on the day bag drop available in 2021, just pre-race bag drop on Fri & Sat, with everyone getting a poncho.
Thank you for the wonderful tips! Just got selected via lottery and this is my first ever marathon and first time going to NY and nervous about it all 😬
Okay subscribed for more videos, Also I thought bag check is different this year. "We have changed how checked baggage works this year, so please read carefully. You will NOT be able to check a bag at the start on race morning and have it transported to the finish. Rather, you will have the option to pre-check a bag at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park during race week and retrieve it after you finish."
If you logged onto your NYRR dashboard before the bag check option reached its capacity then you were given the option to check a bag. I was not given that option. What am I supposed to do? Spend the entire day in soaking wet clothes on a cold day until I get back to my hotel room to change? Come on NYRR. 🤬
Excited (and nervous) to run NYC in a few days for my first marathon!! Love your videos, super helpful for preparing for the race and calming the nerves 🙏🏃♀️
Thx for the tips, I am running the NYC Half next Saturday and I just received an email telling me, that, selfie stick, are not allowed, but like you , I use it with my gopro max, do you have any idea if I can still bring it ? Or will it be taken from my hand at the entrance 🤔? Thx
I’m in Wave 3 Corral B start time at 10:40am which is late. Can I just sneak into wave 1 or 2 to start earlier? Will any officials be looking for this and try to pull me out if I attempt to run with earlier wave?
Yes, the officials will be looking for people trying to sneak into earlier corrals at the NYC Marathon - and in past years the website has said they could be disqualified. Why don't you just respect the race and follow the rules?
I waited too long to make my selections on the website dashboard, and when I did, they had already reached the capacity for pre-race bag drop-off in Central Park. Where can I store some warm dry clothes for after?
Get a hotel room close to the finish area to store your warm dry clothes for after the marathon -- or a room at The Westside YMCA at W. 63rd Street, near the Finish Line at W. 67th Street. You should have made your baggage storage choice early to make your race-day experience good.

Thanks for the tips. One note, there is no UPS day of race bag drop off this year.
Waiting to see where/when we drop off!

Just a quick note. There is no bag check at the start this year. You need to check your bags at the finish one or two days before the race

Sounds like the hardest part about this race is the start. Thanks for the great tips!

Another option bring a battery charger that you are happy to throw away while waiting for your start.

I'm running from UK first marathon in new York 2023 and Im running alone , this is all quite scary ,
For people that don't have the patience to watch entire video: 6:59
If someone has a late wave. Like 11 AM. Can they take a ferry that arrives on staten island at 10 AM.. And take a bus or even walk to their corral
No, it's a good 20 minute bus ride from the ferry to the strat village. And the lines on the SI side are incredibly long.
Uh oh .... you talked about the NYC Marathon while standing in front of a huge poster of the Chicago Marathon!! Mis-match! LOL.
Why not just AirBnB on staten island close to the starting line?
Then you have to get back there after the race.
What is the best type shirt to write your name on? Or should I get a shirt made?

You’ll never make it into the corral. Look at this video of the crowd entering. They’re checking every bib. ruclips.net/video/gHVw3NAdJ1w/видео.html

what about ubering to the starting line? is that completely out of the question?
Unless you do it before 6, the roads will be closed on Staten Island.
Where did you get that shirt?! I love it!
In fact, I made it! You can get one here: dirtyoldsneakers.threadless.com/designs/train-to-boat-white-letters/mens/t-shirt/regular?color=red
@@Dirtyoldsneakers Perfect! Thanks for replying. Just ordered one in black!
Thank you!
Is this the protocol for 21 ?
Check the NYRR website for latest info.
