- Pay requirements for app-based delivery drivers in Seattle could soon change.
A city council committee seeks to revise the controversial gig worker ordinance that's meant to ensure minimum wage paid by companies like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart.
The proposed changes are meant to lower costs for customers and boost the number of orders for restaurants and drivers. But, some gig workers are pushing back against any changes. They claim the problem isn't the legislation, but how the app companies respond to it.

Just undo what you did to cause this mess in the first place. I don't remember anyone but Sawant claiming this needed to be done in the first place. Every sucessful Seattle program from ten years ago was targeted and destroyed by this terrorist. Get rid of the unrequested law so that we can move on to important things. End of discussion.
You are thee Council that rolled back our general standard of living 😢
That's terrible
Wow, such a great use of our tax dollars spending time on this. It will really make a difference. /SARC. Just more waste from the city council. Disgusting.
Small local restaurants are feeling this ordinance. They’re not getting the online delivery orders like they did and have budgeted to have. Drivers aren’t getting the deliveries because it’s too expensive. City council messed this up and should be fixing it. Uber has just recently become profitable, so it’s not the “greedy” app. Drivers are independent contractors using Uber’s platform to get work. They’re not employees of Uber. I feel this continues to be omitted from conversations because it’s common sense.
App delivery companies use algorithms to influence your opinions
The "gig" economy is a brutal game for the workers, who assume all the liabilities without the profits. Don't fall for the company line.
No one is forcing them to be independent contractors. Is it brutal? Brutal is too extreme of a word to describe. It’s tough, yes, but the drivers are choosing to use the app service as a platform to get jobs.
They should unionize and leave the government out of it.
And give the companies the right to employ unions or not. If you make them have to deal with unions you're still bringing in the government.
@@AB-ez4rm Companies cannot stop employees from organizing, otherwise there would never be a union.
Look this is America if you don't want to do that job because you don't like to pay you have the right to go look somewhere else it's America and if you band together and don't do that job and the company's then forced to make more pay then that's fine but you got to always remember that if you're not willing to do the job there will be somebody else willing to do that job for that pay and and that's how the real world Works you're not supposed to be able to force anyone into anything it's all up to us whether we want to pay more to our employees or whether us employees want to accept the pay for that job that's up to us it's not up to a government that is ridiculous if you don't do the job somebody else will and that means something in this world that somebody does want to work and accept that pay to feed their family when others don't want to
I agree with you!
However, please use ending punctuation. I’m a teacher and literally read this without being able to pause. Your argument will be better taken.
@@mcnasty5002 I apologize I'm using the speaking button I'm I'm illiterate I'm Ed / LD in school and so for people who are who are smart you know we do have like Jeopardy so you should not have a problem figuring out what I'm saying and it should take all the same I mean unless you really want to talk about me being an illiterate using the speaking button that's just fine with me
