@panja LCD screens have to be very bright to start to have the contrast of AMOLED, hence the iphone's overcompensating brightness. I was in a position to try both for a few weeks each and the SGS had a much better screen and camera. The iphone's "retina" display's namesake is apparently from burning hole in your retina, especially at night. The AMOLED display is so natural because it needs no backlight to constantly shine in your eyes, and displays better colors by number and accuracy.
@Gargiuloth2 that's not entirely true. When you open up one application and then switch to another one it will continue to run in the background on the iphone4 and you press the menu button 2 times to access those running process's and you can manually shut them down. I can search the web while talking on my iphone. Listen to music while we browsing. I'd say that is multitasking.
Excellent video! I think it's great how you took an unbiased stance and just showed what each phone had to offer. I definitely noticed a difference. I believe the photo and video quality on the Galaxy excels, however it is lacking the light/flash of the iPhone. While in browser the iPhone is brighter, but most users won't really be bothered by that. Personally, they both have plenty to offer. For pure compatibility, I would go with the Galaxy. But, the iPhone has that "cool" factor.
@stoogiemeister The chip is factory set at 1Ghz, yes. But it is underclocked in the iphone. Clockrate is a bit dubious in pop tech because it isn't actually an intrinsic spec of chips yet many sources pretend it is. Chips can run at any speed (too fast will cause excessive heat and too slow will sacrifice math accuracy).
@ChaseKittens Agree, kinda weird if people saying Iphone have been 'the reference' to any smartphone these day when Apple missing a ton of major feature that have in any standard or smarphone (mms.. 3g.. bluetooth.. mp3 as ring tunes.. camera megapixel.. etc)..
@agremeister youre right but the same time lets not forget that andriod is still new to the market .. that giving look at the ground its making up.. at this rate the iphone already has competition knocking on the door.. give it a lil more time and hopefully they dont slow down.. i can see them over taking the market ..
I wish I saw this before I bought my iphone. I love my iphone but I hate AT&T!!! I can't make any phone calls from my home because the connection is so bad. It is true that internet applications do get stuck or slow to start. I have a friend who has Galaxy for work & she loves it! She travels alot & she loves the battery pack replacement on back of the phone. She said she doesn't have to worry about charging when traveling-she simply replaces it with another. She also said another great thing
@popdani I've heard many stories of the older iPhones having trouble with iOS 4.0+ while the 3Gs and 4th gens are running pretty good. iOS 4.2 is running extremely well on my new iPod Touch. I'd expect the iPhone 4 to perform the same since they both use the same hardware for the most part.
@sulkyns Same here, but i wonder what Gingerbread is going to give. Apparently the looks of the ui is gonna change. Currently i must agree the iPhone interface looks nicer.
@stoogiemeister Actually the clock speed of the iPhone 4's A4 chip is unknown, the iPad's is 1GHz. Anandtech testing showed it was between 600-750MHz in relation to the iPad.
hello been using iphone 4 for a couple of months but i am borred with it already and the Samsung galaxy s looks quiet good do you guys thinks it,s worth it....to change i always used HTC thanks and regards
@corvettecentral "Most phones you look at now look just like poor copies of the iphone" See, as a person who's had Winmo/iphone/android phones, I always thought the early iphones were copying WinMo phones and the later ones copying android phones. I remember when the first Iphone came out, and had no MMS, flash, video record, C+P, multitasking...my WinMo phone had all of that. Later, the Iphone 3GS came out - no flash, no multitasking, widgets, autofocus...my android phone had it all.
@Dany95Boss "Apple > invents / Google > copy and try to do better" Google isn't really copying anything though. Android came out on HTC phones (actually it came in 2004 but after Google acquired it, I mean) which were smartphones running WinMo before the iphone came out. Android almost invariably gets new functions first - 3G/4G, MMS, video recording, multitasking, copy & paste, mass storage, GPS, gryoscope, Flash, tethering, hotspot, etc.
@Rectiony3 The Apple menu interface is just a bunch of shortcuts- not even live. That's why the menu scrolls quickly, but applications take long to load. You try running live feeds, widgets, direct to program links on that precious IOS, and it will lag much more than the SGS. SGS faster than iPhone 4.
Is everybody forgetting about the available applications for both phones? I have the iphone 4 and my girlfriend has the SGS, and she's only jealous about what's available for the iPhone 4. She even used the word upgrade when she mentioned going from the SGS to the iPhone 4. She uses my phone more than her own in the evenings. From my experience with both phones the iPhone 4 is in the lead.
@conspiracylife13 where do you find that original version of galaxy s? vibrant, fascinate, epic 4g, captivate...are all modified version of it. i have the fascinate but doesn't seem to have the front camera or other abilities of the original galaxy s...
@icekat83 i own a galaxy s , the touch is really respondsive as long as you don't overload it with widgets , apps , and very power consuming live wallpaper on the homepages , if you update it to version 2.2 it allows you to turn on/off your wifi , bluetooth , gps , silent mode and auto rotation on the notification bar
about her Galaxy is the abiltiy to voice text without actually typing & she said it's pretty accurate. Of course she tells me all this after I get my iphone. I hope this helps someone out there-I'm stuck with my plan. I think both phones are great but I may have to switch if the phone call situation at my home doesn't improve.
@AnEProGamers I ended up getting the Galaxy and once I got the 2.3 update, I noticed the difference between the iPhone and the galaxy and I prefer the Galaxy over the iPhone.
@semisanity thank you. was just about to say the same. iphone may not be the best technically, but its the best due to the content offered for the iphone. hence why they are soo successful
@rob199310 "iphone 4's screen isn't tft at all it is retina display" Actually both LCD and OLED are TFT technologies. TFT = thin film transistor, the technology used to have a thin matrix of semiconductors addressing the current flowed to each pixel. "Retina" doesn't actually mean anything. The iphone screen is just an IPS LCD display, which is the technology used those $10 digital picture frames you see at walmart.
@DJK290 sorry for multitouch (somebody sayd me ), but for TFT i can say that iphone 4's screen isn't tft at all it is retina display with 960x640 resolution, what can you say for it???
When you have a iphone 4 with jailbreak add more functions download HD videos directly form you tube, change themes , addon on principal screen and more
It's all personal preference. I have an iPhone 4 and it's not all that great, I've only had it for a few months and i've already had a few freezes as well as glitches on it. I definitely would give the Galaxy S a shot. But don't know it until you've tried it!
There is a lot of mixed response toward the Galaxy S variants in the US. Some say lag, some say battery drain. Some say the Retina screen is far superior. The pure Galaxy S- like the one I have in the UK, has never lagged, lasts for more than a day, and has the most vivid screen I have ever seen... (yes, I also have used the Retina display: Better text- yes. Better screen- NO).
@havalitoo if yoour just using it for a phone then the galaxy but i love the iphone with so many more apps and itunes but galaxy probs has easier text messaging
Men you make my day. Thank you for these videos. I was so sad I have to cancel my iphone 3G and go to the Galaxy S, but I am so happy right now after watching your videos. I know I will be O.K. with my new phone samsung !!!
My friend paid over four hundred dollars to get an iPhone when it came out. To hear him talk about it I assumed that it is much better than the Galaxy S I got for free, (with a contract renewal), a few months ago. Aside from apps and screen brightness I was surprised by this vid. To my eye the Galaxy S seemed to have a better picture. Did not expect to see that Galaxy S the faster of the two.
@Serkoo001 i have both and i prefer galaxy s cause with android you can personalize your phone much more and also you it has a 4 inch big screen... only thing i miss is a led flash light and glass on the back of the phone.. also the galaxy s is faster... i hope i could help you =) ...
This has helped me make up my mind. I love Apple and wouldn't be without my iPad. But now I need to replace my phone I am going for the Galaxy S after seeing this review.
@LeOnIdAs162 That's a bizarre thing to say. Iphone is always behind the curve. I remember when it came out, it didn't have C+P, widgets, video record, flash, gyro/digital compass or GPS, USB, custom ringtones, 3G, multitasking, MMS...the HTC phone I had that came out that same generation had all of these things. Apple's managed to keep it proportionately behind even now with the 4G. All they do with each Iphone is uncripple a few features that are standardized on other smartphones.
could i watch videos that require adobe flash player online on the galaxy or not? if so then galaxy is my phone. any video you can watch on a computer can i watch on the galaxy like movies online and things like that
The only thing I dislike about my galaxy s is that loud click noise you get every time you touch something. Any way to turn it off or downright change the sound to something else?
@ludbg I don't think you can consider it a copy because the Iphone has never had a model that did anything other touch smart phones couldn't, and both Android and samsung are much older than the Iphone. And I wouldn't say the SGS is garbage compared to the Iphone when the SGS has faster hardware, a better screen, a better camera, and a better operating system. Just saying.
@chmun77 "Why choose Android instead of iOS if both are about the same?" Not the same at all. Android supports bonafide multitasking, widgets, has a unified taskbar, and is more flexible in just about every way with performance/aesthetic modifications that can be done to it right out of the box. You can completely change the entire interface. It also features a JIT compiler, which along with other optimizations will give android superior performance on the same hardware. In short, it's open :)
@myssissippy "plus we have a retna screen with a flash camra. do you have that?" SGS phone owners have AMOLED, USB, multitasking, 6 models to chose from - some of which have a flash, others with hardware keyboard, and other choices), more potential storage space, and not to mention the wholly superior android operating system. Do you have that? :)
@azizpolska I went for the refurbished route with at&t for my 32 gb iphone 4 (Pretty much means conditioned to brand new) and paid 178.00 opposed to $300.00. I'm very happy with the phone so far and I like the look of the phone better than the galaxy, not saying the galaxy isn't better overall. I use an Otterbox case for mine to protect it.
There would be no such thing as Samsung Galaxy series if there was no iPhone 2G to change the game. That's something Samsung fanboys should realize and be mature enough to accept the reality.
@Ingwar2000 I'm sorry, but your wrong on both counts. the galaxy is the same price as the iPhone. Also, the Galaxy S, build wise, looks EXACTLY the same as the old iPhone with the band around the front. proceser wise, they are also exactly the same. being the same on all counts, you have to look at their app stores, and here is where the iPhone shines. the App store has about 5 times the number of apps as the Android Marketplace.
Wait for the Infuse to come out (Feb~April depending on sources claiming its release) -- that thing will pounce the Galaxy S. (FWIW, of course.) The brighter screen will be nice, but at 4.5" it might be a tad big.
@thatsmybit "Super Amoled ? keep dreaming 960 x 640 is much better" Iphone LCD has resolution. SGS AMOLED has accurate colors, refresh rate/response time, contrast ratio, and no backlight that washes everything out, making dark colors and blacks possible. Darkest you get on LCD is dark grey. AMOLED blacks are black. Not worth the compromise to trade-off one spec for every other spec that makes a screen good. In a generation or 2, you'll only LCD in clocks and digital picture frames.
@evilguigui21 If the iphone will always be the reference, then how come android and Winmo phones had copy & paste, accelerometer/gyroscope/digital compass/GPS, widgets, multitasking, mass storage, live backgrounds, flash, tethering, hotspot, 3G, MMS, system-wide file explorer (the list goes on) before the iphone did? It doesn't make much sense to call a phone "the reference" when it's always behind the curve.
@ChaseKittens 960x640 is a very minor difference galaxy s colours currently make every screen on the market look not that good only if you zoom in so much but even then it auto-alligns tbh experiencing friends iphones i wouldnt trade it ever samsung is better
@lutchrd actually you are wrong. If you have ever used both phones like I ave you would know and not just assume based on videos on youtube. On the galaxy s when effortlessly swiping your finger on the screen it scrolls down as fast as it can. The iphone will scroll based on how fast you would like to scroll by the speed of your swipe, again, proving that the galaxy s has a lag to it if you have ever used both side by side hands on
@VacancyJB duhhh cause android is used on just about EVERY smartphone except the iphones, there are only 4 phones using ios, the iphone, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs and iphone 4, and there are dozens of android phones.
Guess I'm going for the Galaxy S :D Love the colors on the AMOLED screen, the fact that the screen is larger than Iphone 4, quicker browsing on same network, Swype... A question that didn't come up in this face-off though is this: Which phone has better sound? I like to use a phone as music player...
@TheShaikh1991 It clearly shows that you live in U.S. , well Galaxy S all models with the exception of the three for U.S. have LED flash. And screen would be a preference however I like the vibrant and extreme brightness of Galaxy S for I don't have the need to use so much pixels on a mobile device with pinch and zooming.
Good review. I still don't know why people argue about phones. It always comes down to user preference. This battle will never be over...
I will buy one of them...which one Is better to choose? Please give an answer
@Gargiuloth2 that's not entirely true. When you open up one application and then switch to another one it will continue to run in the background on the iphone4 and you press the menu button 2 times to access those running process's and you can manually shut them down. This was a very informative review. I hope this guy does a lot of electronic reviews, like tablets and such things!
Excellent video! I think it's great how you took an unbiased stance and just showed what each phone had to offer. I definitely noticed a difference. I believe the photo and video quality on the Galaxy excels, however it is lacking the light/flash of the iPhone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and I really like it. I wanted to get an iPhone but you can't use an SD card to get more space.
@trickjacko I doubt you'll have any issues with either display, they both look great. I'd focus more on what you plan to do with the phone.
Both are equipped with a single-core 1 GHz processor. The fact that iPhone runs the lightweight iOS makes it faster.

@EVilyro Galaxy S sure! .. but with iOS 5 not sure as it is old video should search for comparison with iOS 5 on iphone 4
@corvettecentral "Most phones you look at now look just like poor copies of the iphone"

it's been VERY HELPFUL and thanks ! Helped me decide on the set that i want to buy.
Thanks for the video! Very good approach for comparing phones features.
@Dany95Boss "Apple > invents / Google > copy and try to do better"

Your comparison videos are very very good. Big thumbs up!!
@LilPharaohz you can use the iphone just like you would an Ipod, the galaxy does that too, just a slightly different system
Is everybody forgetting about the available applications for both phones? I have the iphone 4 and my girlfriend has the SGS, and she's only jealous about what's available for the iPhone 4.

@72dmp iPhone 4 800MHz ARM cortex A8 (apple A4), PowerVR 535 vs Samsung Galaxy S 1GHz ARM Corext A8, PowerVR 540.
Where are you driving at?
@icekat83 i own a galaxy s , the touch is really respondsive as long as you don't overload it with widgets , apps , and very power consuming live wallpaper on the homepages , if you update it to version 2.2 it allows you to turn on/off your wifi , bluetooth , gps , silent mode and auto rotation on the notification bar

@MrTico1991 How does the iphone have prestige? Every high schooler seems to have one these days.
@AnEProGamers I ended up getting the Galaxy and once I got the 2.3 update, I noticed the difference between the iPhone and the galaxy and I prefer the Galaxy over the iPhone.
Also if you multi touch to zoom on the Galaxy S, then tap the screen while zoomed it will reformat the text to fit.
@semisanity thank you. was just about to say the same. iphone may not be the best technically, but its the best due to the content offered for the iphone. hence why they are soo successful
@MrVigitube I am getting one today, so excited I hope it works out and I dont have to put a deposit
@Charlie7829 its because samsung copied the iphone layout on the homescreen idea so obviously people will go for the originated phone!!!
@GamesWhatElse Turn-by-turn with voice works in the UK for everyone on Android?

@starfiremagic i believe the unlocked version does run on 2.3
Btw, you guys recommend the galaxy S? having in mind this have already 1 year on the market? (i dont have the money for the galaxy s2) thx.
It's all personal preference. I have an iPhone 4 and it's not all that great, I've only had it for a few months and i've already had a few freezes as well as glitches on it. I definitely would give the Galaxy S a shot. But don't know it until you've tried it!
@Hunt8849 I would, in fact, say that the Galaxy S is more "usable". After purchasing said phone, it became my laptop, among other things.
Did not expect to see that Galaxy S the faster of the two.
thanks for making this!
you helped me figure out wich one to get!!
@GenyaArikado i'm not sure who's better by that comparison, that's if your talking to the chuck norris persona and not actually chuck norris
are the samsung aplicattions free?can you have apps like iphone?
@ilefred you know why its called a galxey beacuse it can only be shiped in this galxey but the iphone can go to other galxeys what now
@Serkoo001 i have both and i prefer galaxy s cause with android you can personalize your phone much more and also you it has a 4 inch big screen... only thing i miss is a led flash light and glass on the back of the phone.. also the galaxy s is faster... i hope i could help you =) ...

do iphone apps work on galaxy?
apps likeBmessenger and what's app.
I wanna make sure because I'm gonna buy one tomorrow.
could i watch videos that require adobe flash player online on the galaxy or not? if so then galaxy is my phone. any video you can watch on a computer can i watch on the galaxy like movies online and things like that
Nice review, thanks! Got my Galaxy today!!
The only thing I dislike about my galaxy s is that loud click noise you get every time you touch something. Any way to turn it off or downright change the sound to something else?
when you are in youtube, can you change the quality of the vid or it just appears the default one?
What should I buy?? Help!
Just saying.
great...now what is it like to use them as a phone and make a call?
Is the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant this phone?
I like this reviewer. No B.S. just strait up tests.
@chmun77 "Why choose Android instead of iOS if both are about the same?"
Not the same at all.
@soupplate1 You can do that on a iphone 4 too, just hold down the main button and say example call john
@trickjacko Not really, it's lower resolution and the viewing angle is a tad worse
@Ingwar2000 I'm sorry, but your wrong on both counts. the galaxy is the same price as the iPhone. Also, the Galaxy S, build wise, looks EXACTLY the same as the old iPhone with the band around the front. proceser wise, they are also exactly the same. being the same on all counts, you have to look at their app stores, and here is where the iPhone shines. the App store has about 5 times the number of apps as the Android Marketplace.
useful review. I wish the Samsung was a bit smaller. If it was I'd definitely pick it above the iphone4
very good video, discovered couple more functions of my SGS thanks tou your vid. Galaxy FTW!
well i have newest android on my galaxy s. plus tons of things id didnt have when it came out, people still develop apps, roms and kernels for sgs.
Wait for the Infuse to come out (Feb~April depending on sources claiming its release) -- that thing will pounce the Galaxy S. (FWIW, of course.) The brighter screen will be nice, but at 4.5" it might be a tad big.
... the iphone4 image and video looks alot better, or is it because the way this video is done?
@thatsmybit "Super Amoled ? keep dreaming 960 x 640 is much better"
Iphone LCD has resolution.
I've had my Galaxy S for about a week now and I love it!
@gargameel007 check this video name is Samsung Galaxy S Gorilla Glass demo -- Korean style this guy realy did a test also break the gorrilla glass
Btw, on the internet browser, there's a seperate options menu for the brightness thats why it wasn't as bright
@ChaseKittens 960x640 is a very minor difference galaxy s colours currently make every screen on the market look not that good only if you zoom in so much but even then it auto-alligns tbh experiencing friends iphones i wouldnt trade it ever samsung is better
Thank you for the time you've put into that review.
Thanks for the balanced review. It helped out a lot!
@Fustangle i actually own both and i can tell that they are EXTREMELY similar. both are very good phones and in my opinion none is superior.
and cn u plz tell me where u get it?
@94amaru iPhone the best web experience??? haven't you just seen the review???
Thanks man I was looking to see which one is better in my opinion and I guess it's the galaxy s... Great video!
@stoogiemeister Little error in your info; the iphone's iteration of the CPU is underclocked to around 800mHz to accommodate battery life :)
@lutchrd actually you are wrong. If you have ever used both phones like I ave you would know and not just assume based on videos on youtube. On the galaxy s when effortlessly swiping your finger on the screen it scrolls down as fast as it can. The iphone will scroll based on how fast you would like to scroll by the speed of your swipe, again, proving that the galaxy s has a lag to it if you have ever used both side by side hands on
Today i purchased a Galaxy S and this video made me realize i made the right choice. THANK YOU!
Does the Galaxy S have game apps like the Iphone?
