watching this in 2020... so warm memories. At the time my phone was the EVO with sprint. But around the same time I got into phone repair... and the first time I took apart an iPhone 4, I was amazed about the built quality. Everything was metal and glass and so perfectly designed. To this day I still keep a few iPhone 4s's because I was so impresed with the built quality. Even a couple of years ago I put my simcard in an iPhone 4s and kept it for a few days as my main phone... it just feels so nice in the hand, easy to text witn one hand and make calls. However at the time my main phone was the EVO. The evo wasn't as sophisticated as the iPhone but it had some features that were hard to leave behind. A bigger screen, the browser at the time was faster, it had sd card reader, it coulod be rooted and you could install any rom you wanted, it had a kick stand, lol. to this day I have both in my drawer of toys that I still play with sometimes.
I find it funny that the iphone 4 is running the latest version of ios (ios 7) 4 years later, where as the Evo has long been forgotten. Its a shame since the Evo was such a cool phone for its time.
It would be interesting to see how these two phones compare today. I had an EVO 4g and loved it; particularly, the micro HDMI port that he forgot to mention. However, my girlfriend, today, still has her iPhone 4.
HTC EVO is bigger. The iPhone 4 is better. If we compare both devices today, guarantee the iPhone 4 is running a lot smoother. I know plenty of people today, who are still using an iPhone 4. Heck even 3G and 3GS. The original EVO is completely obsolete at this point.
@iimorbii if you keep your phone on charge constantly then the battery will never get full charges. It's like a milk bottle. If it's 2/3 full, and you put new milk in, the milk underneath goes solid...then you've only got the top part of the milk that is useful
I remember how BAD I wanted the Evo just based on the fact it had a "huge" 4.3 inch display. Now I have been using the Nexus 6 for over a year now and I just crack up at how cell phones have changed so quickly.
so the thing at the end with the speed test. having the live wallpaper actually makes it go slower then it really is because of the wallpaper using more of the processor
You hit the head on the nail customization. enough said. How many custom roms and kernels combinations do you have for iphone? Any widgets? I can say for the Evo alone probably over a hundred.
I have had the Evo for a year now and I have never had any problems. I've looked at the new phones out now and In my personal opinion I still prefer my Evo for me its been very reliable. I drove from Maryland to Houston tx using the navigation for 25 hours straight and it never failed me. Can't go wrong with an Evo
You forgot to mention that when you zoom in on the Evo it automatically columnizes all of your words so you can read them without having to go through to and scroll through all the words.
WELL GUESS WHAT? I'm still using my iPhone 4 and it's still a popular phone today that MANY people use. I would love to see anyone still using their 2010 Evo 4G. :P
I would have liked to see how fast each of their app stores load. Android Marketplace vs. iTunes App Store, also maybe a bit of download speed for the same app.
@KatCataract Please tell me how the Evo 3d turns out. I've been planning to get it , or the nexus s, or the Evo 4g, but i keep hearing problems with the 3D and have been hesitant.
@TheBrownwetback it comes with the phone hit settings than hit personalize than hit home wallpaper than hit live wallpaper than look for Nexus than save it as a background than you got the bacground.
This was one of the best review comparisons I have seen yet. It really shows how even then 2 phones are. I think I will go with the 4S, then the HTC EVO.
The video was made two years ago. Thirty-two gigabyte cards were expensive back then; however, in today's market you can pick a 32gb at the low prices on Ebay.
He didn't mention that you customize the keyboard on the Evo 4G. I have one and I'm using the compacted keyboard. The key tab things are way bigger, making typing a breeze. And sorry if that was way too cliche lol
@sitbackrelaxxx and question why is verizon reporting that "android" sales have been down since they got the iphone 4? and why are they claiming that android sales have also been down with anticipation for the iphone 5? seems like to me people only really pick a android phone because it's cheap or, they can't get a iphone
i just got the evo 4g watching youtube videos i get like 360p or something i can press the hd button but its still blurry esp compared to iphone 4 is there a way to get it to play in1080?
hey i NEED YOU ANSWER 1. this phone you can put ADOBE FLASH for using in internet becouse something page online need this programs for opens 2. you can put ANDROID OS 4.0? thx
can someone please answer my question, google can't seem to give me the right answer. Question: What is the difference between the htc evo 4g and the htc evo V 4g by virgin mobile? is there any difference or did virgin mobile just decide to throw a v in to the name?
i think the web loading test is unfair because the EVO is using the 4G network and iphone 4 is using the 3G net work, you should test EVO and iphone 4S when the 4S is available to buy.
well in México the price of an iphone 2g is between 100 and 150 bucks, but the price of the EVO is from 170 and 245 bucks... wich one i'll buy well I can afford the ones with the lowest price
My friend had this phone and at the time it was decent. But nowadays you really notice how slow the data speeds actually were, how terrible the camera was, and it's actually very laggy. At least when compared to amazing ICS phones.
I've just moved into the world of smartphone with a hand me down iPhone 4, and my brother and father are about to get the EVO 4g. I think I'm gonna have to do my own comparison on how these phones have aged.
Did a good job with all the tests. Only issue is that the battery is a lot better on the iPhone when you experience realtime usage. That should even the score to 4-3 :)
does anybody know how to change the lock screen on the evo or the sensation without having to change the wallpaper? i want to change the lockscreen to a picture but i have no option to!
I'm getting the IPhone 4 in a few days and if I really wanted the designs on the htc, then I know how to jailbreak and fast Internet isn't what I'm looking for since I'm not competing it will also be the first smart phone I get :D
Just the appearance of the screen tells me that I'd rather have better resolution and color and therefore will keep my 4S for now. Thanks for the compare!
I'm an iPhone guy, but I have gotta admit, htc has improved massively. I owned a htc two years ago, the legend, but got rid of it because it was too slow, replacing it with an iPhone. and the improvement seen i've seen is massive! that Evo is damn fast!
It's not a fair or unfair kind of thing (unless it's a flip phone vs. a smartphone). What matters is whatever is available to the consumer. You can't fault Apple or HTC for their release timeframes... so it's a comparison that needs to be made - for the consumer's sake.
i agree with most of this, except the fact that i have had the Evo for almost a year and i cant believe anyone would ever compliment the battery of this phone. ive had 3 batteries, one an extended battery and to even last through a full school day i have to turn my internet off. And i dont even have 4G coverage where i live, so im getting an iPhone.
Im just an iPhone person. All my friends have one and so do i. I love my phone the way it is, no need for customizations. I also am in love with iPhone cases, mine is lelo and stitch. Android doesnt really have many unique cases like that. And i use iTunes so having the iPhone really helps with that
Oh man. I forgot that LCD screens took all the way past the iphone 4 to start coming around. That screen on the Evo was like the screen from iphones before the 4 and Samsung's before the first Galaxy even came around... that screen was soooooo badddd. It was pretty much completely impossible to see outside under the sun. That's what I remember about them. Oh lord.
Honestly, before any of you guys can rant crap about any of these phones, you have to use both of the devices. I'm sure most of you guys that have an iPhone and have never used an EVO, and like to talk smack, and most of you guys have an EVO and have never used an iPhone 4, and talk smack. Really, we're not looking for phones that have a built in grill. Both phones are great, and it's personal preference. And great comparison, Jon.
Hey look!! Back when people bought HTC phones....
The Evo was my first smartphone!
The Stegman the iPhone 3GS was mine
Mine too

On HTC evo is cool like the only problem is that I can't use vine. I have the special vine application other than that it's still good.
I still have my HTC EVO 4G. I'm getting the iPhone 4s tomorrow
iPhone 4 doesn't support 4G, while the HTC Evo does.
Just got my 4S, it's way faster than my EVO 4G even without 4G, And It has a way better screen resolution and camera
Ho Leong HTC Evo doesn't even support 4G. All it has is HSPA+ 21mbps which Americans and Canadians call 4G while the rest of the world calls it 3G.
Remember when 4.3 inches was considered massive
I think it still is hehe
No I’m joking
Why am I back here lol miss the competition from back in the day!
Now it's Samsung vs Apple
Sprint screwed so many people into buying 4G phones when they didn’t even have 4G hardly anywhere
They did in st.louis when I bought mine in 2010
The iPhone 4 is still a really nice looking phone to the eye 6 years later - 2016
2020 , anyone ?
@iimorbii if you keep your phone on charge constantly then the battery will never get full charges. It's like a milk bottle. If it's 2/3 full, and you put new milk in, the milk underneath goes solid...then you've only got the top part of the milk that is useful
I miss these lengthy videos vs. the new TB 5-10 min feature spec list rundown videos labeled as a full review.
I remember how BAD I wanted the Evo just based on the fact it had a "huge" 4.3 inch display. Now I have been using the Nexus 6 for over a year now and I just crack up at how cell phones have changed so quickly.

Its 2012, and i still love the HTC EVO, I will always want it, there we go.
I has a question with the new sprint iPhone are u gonna be able to video call wherever u hav service
Yes the iPhone 5 came out in 2012... did you read the comment he replied to?
gotta love the T-Mobile ad before a video about a sprint phone & an AT&T and Verizon phone
I would have liked to see how fast each of their app stores load. Android Marketplace vs. iTunes App Store, also maybe a bit of download speed for the same app.
hi, you know with the moving background on the evo it will make the scrolling more coppy in the browser
9:15 how youtube looked back then...lol
@KatCataract Please tell me how the Evo 3d turns out. I've been planning to get it , or the nexus s, or the Evo 4g, but i keep hearing problems with the 3D and have been hesitant.

im not sure on cases since their now just coming out. When you go get it look around to see which fits for you or check online like amazon or eBay.
where did you get that wallpaper for the evo? i want it on mine!
my phone upgrade is april 1st and i want to know some advice on what to get, iphone 4s or an evo. please help me out by replying so i can know
I'm thinking about getting the infuse over my iPhone yes or no?
@29kalel
Well at least EVO's are 3D now, and what special enhancement did you make? An "S" at the end of your products name?
He didn't mention that you customize the keyboard on the Evo 4G. I have one and I'm using the compacted keyboard. The key tab things are way bigger, making typing a breeze. And sorry if that was way too cliche lol
Where do you buy mini sd cards? I've seen 32 gig cards for $70. Far less than $200.
Hey, Where did you get that background for the Evo???
Hey jon4lakers! Which phone should i buy. the iPhone4, or the Samsung Galaxy SII?
The HTC One is a 2013 model.
The iPhone 5 is a 2012 model.
Wait till the 5S at least and then do comparisons.
whoa did you see how much battery the evo lost throughout the 20 minute video!
Where do you get that wallpaper on the Iphone 4?
@sitbackrelaxxx and question why is verizon reporting that "android" sales have been down since they got the iphone 4? and why are they claiming that android sales have also been down with anticipation for the iphone 5? seems like to me people only really pick a android phone because it's cheap or, they can't get a iphone
Great review !! Planning on purchasing the evo soon !
Same
IS there anyway i can get this phone to work in CANADA?
please help
Witch one should I get. An EVO 3D or Sensation?
i just got the evo 4g watching youtube videos i get like 360p or something i can press the hd button but its still blurry esp compared to iphone 4 is there a way to get it to play in1080?
hey i NEED YOU ANSWER
1. this phone you can put ADOBE FLASH for using in internet becouse something page online need this programs for opens
2. you can put ANDROID OS 4.0?
thx
@29kalel so just because its the first means its the best?
@SuperVendetta01 lol, the iPhone 4 is just over a year old first of all. Second, the HTC Evo is actually a little older then the iPhone 4.
does the HTC Evo 4G have the front camera?
Where did you find that background on the iphone?
can someone please answer my question, google can't seem to give me the right answer. Question: What is the difference between the htc evo 4g and the htc evo V 4g by virgin mobile? is there any difference or did virgin mobile just decide to throw a v in to the name?
@JMSessink maybe a 64gb card,
but a 32gb is only like 50 bucks right?
Its 2012 and i still love this. I always wanted it.
I have an EVO and i love it can't wait to get the new EVO 3D..... Nice job!!!!
How do you get that theme for an EVO 4G?
should i get the smartphone or the iphone 4 ???
i think the web loading test is unfair because the EVO is using the 4G network and iphone 4 is using the 3G net work, you should test EVO and iphone 4S when the 4S is available to buy.
whichever phone you own you will favor more dispite the differences...
well in México the price of an iphone 2g is between 100 and 150 bucks, but the price of the EVO is from 170 and 245 bucks... wich one i'll buy well I can afford the ones with the lowest price
I's getting an EVO next week, cant wait!
Retina is 960x640... not 480 as was stated in the video.
My friend had this phone and at the time it was decent. But nowadays you really notice how slow the data speeds actually were, how terrible the camera was, and it's actually very laggy. At least when compared to amazing ICS phones.
"You gotta check make sure it fits in your pocket" lol that was a lie
That phone is considered small in todays time
buy at sprint and use $50 (or bit less) to get warranty, get i5 if your just now getting. Im getting mine in October after contact end
The new evo 4g update now makes it turn on less than 10 seconds, super fast
Does the iphone have speech to text or swipe text?
@HYITHO I think ur mistaken ..I own the new ipad and I gave back my iPhone 4S to phones4u and got a evo 3D instead.
Even the clock on the HTC was ahead of its time.
how does he have a folder on the iphone this was before ios4
@oliveroskate you can root the evo which makes it so much better
I've just moved into the world of smartphone with a hand me down iPhone 4, and my brother and father are about to get the EVO 4g. I think I'm gonna have to do my own comparison on how these phones have aged.

Just the appearance of the screen tells me that I'd rather have better resolution and color and therefore will keep my 4S for now. Thanks for the compare!
@truBoxingfan * the iPhone 3g couldn't correctly support iOS 4, not could. My bad, typo
@sitbackrelaxxx do you hate the iphone?
I'm an iPhone guy, but I have gotta admit, htc has improved massively. I owned a htc two years ago, the legend, but got rid of it because it was too slow, replacing it with an iPhone. and the improvement seen i've seen is massive! that Evo is damn fast!

this video promoted an iphone 4G? how much they pay u?
I hope both companies release some top notch updates in the coming months.
i wish jon still did these type of videos
um storage didnt go to the iphone u said draw cause of personal prefrence
@Raiown It's sad that we call that old-school, isn't it?
i agree with most of this, except the fact that i have had the Evo for almost a year and i cant believe anyone would ever compliment the battery of this phone. ive had 3 batteries, one an extended battery and to even last through a full school day i have to turn my internet off. I still got my EVO n its super updated
small price to pay for battery drainage. whats the point for having an app if you just use its widget?
I have 2 weeks iPhone or Evo I just can't decide.
This was a great, thorough video
I miss sense 😞
Im just an iPhone person. All my friends have one and so do i. I love my phone the way it is, no need for customizations. I also am in love with iPhone cases, mine is lelo and stitch. I am an iphone guy now, but HTC EVO was amazing. I wish they were still around.
i like having flash capabilities and not having to sync stuff with itunes. so evo my fav
Watching this on an s7 edge just feels like looking into a window to the past.
Oh man. I forgot that LCD screens took all the way past the iphone 4 to start coming around. Needed to show the relevant numbers on screen.

Why not bring up the fact of "Swype" for the EVO?????
