    Thanks for this video. I was able to follow it along for my XBR-55X900F, and every step led to the same result... the main board. Sending it your way! The only part that slowed me down was disconnecting the wires to the board. There was one style I haven't seen before, the two going to the TCON, but I was able to figure it out. The two little black buttons on the edges need to be pushed down, for anyone that might get stuck on that. Thanks again!

    Hello Nick,
    Yet another excellent video 👍
    Sony has know about these terrible eMMC chips for years and have still not come with with a better more long lasting solution. On cheaper lower end branded mainboards (for example Vestal), if there is an issue you can just say oh well it was a cheap tv so lets just buy another one. But these Sony Android TVs are not cheap, nowhere near cheap so all these eMMC issues are just ridiculous and gives Sony a bad name when it comes to TVs with eMMC issues.
    I repair TVs as a hobby (as well as upgrading already good audio equipment internals to audiophile sound quality), I'm actually a self employed software/app developer and my house is full of Sony Android TVs. One of my TVs I had to replace the eMMC and that was not fun for me to do. We actually only ever use 4K Chromecasts plugged into all the TVs in our house as using the apps on our mobile phones and then clicking the cast icon is much faster than using the tv remote with the built-in native tv apps.
    Anyway keep up the great work and videos 👏👏👏

    I have Sony TV XBR49X800E doesn't turn on at all for unknown reasons. I replaced a power board, nothing turns on. Black screen, no light signs on main board. My question is what thing is responsible for not turning on. How to diagnose main board, T-Con board, a thing for standby. No light in standby when plugged in electricity.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  6 месяцев назад +2

      If you follow the instructions in the video, it will show you how to determine which board is at fault.
      The T-con is in charge of providing data to the screen, which has nothing to do with the TV turning on. If you were to remove the T-con from the TV you would still be able to turn the TV on and off, but you wouldn't get a picture.
      The power supply and mainboard are the only 2 parts that can cause a no-power fault. 99% of the time the mainboard is the one that causes a no-power fault. To confirm this follow the steps shown in the video.

    I have and XBR-65900. It went completely dead as described here. Wouldn't turn on no matter what. Had he main board replaced and it worked 100% perfect; however, I noticed the very most subtile differences in the main TV GUI, and while some smart apps worked (RUclips, Disney+), some did not. Netflix gave a UI-800 error and HULU gave a PDEV-320 error. These potentially indicate a hardware error. Trying to find out if my board is somehow not compatible with something related to the network on the TV, or if the main board is just bad. So frustrating.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      This is not a hardware error, it is an error due to licensing. There is no way to fix this. You will have to use those apps using external devices such as a cable box, Firestick, Roku stick, Apple TV, chromcast, or other similar streaming device.

    Months ago I talked to you by email, I asked about sending an eMMC chip for the Brazilian model XBR-70x835F. I bought a new board from Sony and the TV is working. Thank you for your help!

      Nice that's good news! Glad you got it back up and running. Yeah sorry we get requests for chips for the Asian, Europ, and south american versions of the models all the time. The problem is that the mainbards for those are designed differently depending on which area of the world the TV is going to due to different regulations and systems for those countries. So the software is different and we don't have those.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  6 месяцев назад

      9 times out of 10 a dead no power fault is mainboard as shown in this video. But if you are not getting any output voltages from the power supply even with the mainboard disconnected, and you are sure you are doing the voltage checks correctly, then you have a defective power supply. Try checking for shorted diodes first, most Sony power supply boards fail with shorted diodes.

    Hi Nick,
    Just found your video. I'm trying to fix my Sony tv with no power issue. I have 2.6v on a STBY3.3v. Also I haven't got 12v on pin 25. What would you say it's the problem?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  10 месяцев назад

      If you disconnect everything from the power supply and power it on do you still have 2.6v on the 3.3v standby line?
      If yes then you may indeed have a defective power supply but that is very odd and more likely that your multimeter is out of spec than the power supply. If you had an issue on your standby line I would expect 0v or oscillating voltages, but not a low voltage output. A no power issue on a sony TV is 99% of the time due to a mainboard fault not power supply.

      Hello,
      Based on the information provided it sounds like your power supply is fine, you are getting both the 3.3v and the 12v.
      If the power supply was damaged I would expect one or both of those to be missing. It is incredibly rare for the power supply to fail, 99% of the time the failure is with the mainboard.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  10 месяцев назад

      If it's 10 months old it's under warranty and I would recommend having it fixed under the warranty channels.
      But also try plugging it in in a different circuit in a different part of the house and see if the issue persists. If the TV works for the most part then the issue is most likely not with the TV but with the plug, the breaker box or wiring between the plug and breaker box. If the power supply was drawing enough power to trip the breaker then something would have caught fire or shorted out in the TV and it would be very obvious.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      I would recommend disconnecting everything from the power supply and trying again. It is possible there is a short on one of the other boards bringing dow the 3.3v to 0v. So disconnect everything and try measuring the standby line once more. If you still don't get anything then your power supply is defective and needs to either be replaced or repaired.
      If you do get the 3.3v from the standby to come back then reconnect each board 1 at a time until the standby voltage goes away again and when it does you can identify the defective part to repair or replace.

      I have to admit, I haven't worked with the 800H much so I don't have an answer for you on that right now. But if you are getting backlight and sound we can rule out the power supply and LED strips. You could have a fault with either the Mainboard, T-con board, or the panel.
      The T-con and mainboard are the only parts that you can replace so I would suggest replacing both and seeing what happens.

      The 900F is a little bit different but the same diagnostics still apply. If you are able to get the normal voltages to the mainboard such as standby, and all the 12v lines from the power supply then it means the power supply is good and the fault is the mainboard.
      If you aren't able to get the voltages, then the power supply is at fault.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  7 месяцев назад

      Connector CN6401 pin 27 is 12v lines to T-con, it should only show 12v when the TV is on. So if your TV is not turning on then that is normal for it to not show 12v.
      What you want to check is pin 5 which is the standby voltage. It's on the lower row so you have to wiggle your multimeter lead in between the wires to get a reading on it, but if you do get your standby voltage then you can almost certainly rule it out as the fault. Make sure you look at the legend to identify where pin 5 is on the connector. It's the third pin from the top on the lower row. If what I am saying doesn't make sense, just look at the legend and it will visually show you where it is.
      it is very rare for that power supply to go out. 99% of the time the mainboard is the one to cause a no power fault.

If i disconnect the mainboard and do the jumper pins i get a red light flashing 3 times on the led board but nothing else happens. No click from the power supply or anythjng. Could the static converter be the issue? Any help would be appreciated.

      To me, it would mean your mainboard is defective. eBay is full of non-working boards so it's possible you received a dud or you didn't pair the board to your TV.
      If you would like to send in your mainboard for us to live test and fix we can do so, this way we can confirm the diagnostic and then perform the repairs. This way you know for sure whether or not the mainboard was the fault, and since we live test the board both before and after repairs we know again for sure the board you will get back is fully functional. We also provide you with the flash drive and instructions for pairing.

    @NicksTVRepair, my standby voltage is reading ~3.4Vdc, REG12V is ~ 12.3Vdc, my TCON_VCC12V stays at 0VDC. I disconnected the power to the main board and TCON, jumped my standby voltage to POWER_ON and TCON_ON (verified ~3.4Vdc on standby voltage, POWER_ON, and TCON_ON) however my TCON_VCC12V remains at 0Vdc and my REG12V remains at ~12.3Vdc. Any recommendations on where to check? Would sure be nice to have a schematic for these boards :D

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  7 месяцев назад

      If this is correct you have a bad power supply. However I have never seen this before where only the T-con 12v failed.
      Are you sure your jumpers are correct, please double check.
      What symptoms are you seeing on your TV set? Usually that is a better way to diagnose the set than doing voltage checks.

      @@NicksTVRepair Thanks for the response! I tripled checked the jumpers and verified they were correct. Symptoms of the TV is that there was no standby light, display not powered on, no change when trying the power button hard reset or the remote reset. I've ordered a replacement power board and will let you know the results. @NicksTVRepair I received the board and swapped. Symptoms were the same, so i tried the 3.3V standby jumper via a 1kohm resistor in series with the Power On and TCon On. With the jumper in place and 3ish volts verified on standby as well as power on and tcon on, the tcon 12v power stays at 0 AND the 12v Reg rail drops out to 0. I replaced the original power board and it is doing the same thing (tcon 12v power AND 12v reg goes to 0). Would this be a problem with the TCON board or still related to Main board?

    • @TrevorJeppesen
      @TrevorJeppesen 7 месяцев назад

      Scratch that, there is no power path to the TCON board and the power harness output is demated so that wouldn't make sense. Ringing out the power harness to check for shorts on the TCON power lines.

    • @TrevorJeppesen

    but no TCON 12v, I jumped the power on and icon on with 3.3v and tcon 12v was there. so power supply was ok
    I guess my issue is the main board. my question is after replacing with a new board, does tv need to be software upgrade or restore it for the new board?
    is the board compatible with different size? like a 55x800h will work with a 65x800h? will still need a software restore after installed?

      The issue is still the same, your mainboard is not sending the signals correctly to the T-con. If you have already reseated your ribbons several times and still have issues, then either your ribbons are damaged, the connector has something stuck in it such as dirt, hair, dust, or something else preventing the ribbon from making good contact inside the connector.

    Hello, I have a similar problem on a XBR 75x855F (latin america version), and have already received a new emmc from a Chinese store, but I have the following doubt:
    Is it necessary to write the android system (or the boot) to the emmc before soldering it? Or is it enough to have a pendrive with the file sony_dtv*.pkg (from sony) so that the TV installs the system on the empty emmc?
    Thanks

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад +1

      Jorge,
      You need to program the EMMC chip using a specialized programmer. If you do not and install a blank EMMC chip, the board won't boot at all and you won't be able to load up the software from the flash drive since the USB port won't be getting any power.
      I won't be able to help you unfortunately since I don't have the software for your board. Typically what I do is I buy a fully functional board, factory reset it to default, remove the EMMC, grab the software off of it, put the EMMC back onto the board, make sure everything is still working 100%, and sell it on eBay. But now I have good software to fix other boards.

      Thank you very much Nick.
      I understand the difficulty. Do you think that the software of the 75x850F will be able to work on the 75x855F? (since they are from the same year, same segment, and just a region variation). Maybe, with the boot1 and boot2 parts of the software my board could boot, then power up the USB port, so that the sony firmware can update the system?
      In that case, could I buy your software via ebay?

      Yes we were thinking of doing a video where we review some of the most usefull tools we have and use, which would include the mainboard tester. That video is probably a couple more months out however.
      This mainboard tester shown in the video is for standard and HD 1080P TV sets. The model number of the device is TV160. You can pick it up for about $145 on eBay or $125 from Aliexpress.
      There are others that work with both 4k and 1080P Tv sets which I would recommend getting over this one, however this one is much more affordable than the others. The 4k ones are closer to the $300-$400 mark. We might try to do a bulk purchase from a chinese vendor and retail them at a more affordable price on our website at some point in the near future, but we aren't at that point yet. • @NicksTVRepair

      You would need to program the chip as well. You can't take an eMMC from one TV and use it in another without programing it with the specific software required for that specific TV.
      As for the eMMC itself it would need to be the same exact eMMC.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      I would have to disagree. We have fixed over 20,000 TVs in the last 8 years, I would say when you take into consideration the manufacturers market shares VS how often we see them come into our shop for repair, the cheap TVs from walmart are the #1 to come in. We get lots of TCL, and roku TVs as well as the lower end vizio, and lower end LG. Not many of the high end Vizio or high end LG's however. We do get Sonys as well but not nearly as much as many of the other brands.
      We do a lot of videos on repairing Sony because we think they are one of the major brands worth fixing due to the value and quality they have. The thumbnail is just there to be dramatic and get the click, but they have really good picture and are worth fixing in my opinion.

      @@NicksTVRepair I would have to agree. Do a Google search and you will see what I’m talking about. Called Sony and they even said it’s been a problem over the last few years. I have 2 Sonys, 1 65 inch which is 2 years old that tools a shit and Sony said to pound sand. I also have a 2nd 65 inch booth last year around Christmas that the picture is split down the middle and discolored on both sides. Thankfully that one is hopefully going to get replaced. The first 65 inch was 2 years old. 1299 dollars and Sony would NOT stand behind their product. I’m done purchasing Sony especially after googling how common these problems are.

    If I jump Standby to TCon On and only get the 3.3 volts from standby instead of 12 volts, does that mean the power supply is defective?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      I am not sure I understand your sentence.
      If you jump the 3.3v standby line to the T-con_ON line then your T-con_ON line will read 3.3v because that is what is being injected into it. This is your command line and it should not get more voltage than that. So far this is normal. When you do this however provided your power supply is also getting the on command aka 3.3v to the Power_on line then your T-con_VCC voltage should show 12v. T-con_on is a signal /command line coming into the power supply, the T-con_VCC lines are outgoing power lines going out and to the T-con.
      Does that make sense?

    • @adamruss656
      @adamruss656 Год назад

      @NicksTVRepair yes. I did the jumper like in the video with wires connecting the standby 3.3 to power on and to tcon on. But rather than getting 12 volts it's just the 3.3. Does that make sense?

    • @adamruss656
      @adamruss656 Год назад

      @NicksTVRepair I assume because all three lines when jumped together only have the 3.3v from the standby line, rather than the proper 12v, that the power board is defective. I know many times people assume that if the standby voltage is good they assume the main board is bad and it's not sending the signal back to power on

      If you are reffering to the software you need to download to a flashdrive once the eMMC chip has been replaced so that you can pair your mainboard back to the TV, that will be on the Sony support site. Type in your model number in their search and you should be able to find it.
      If you are asking for the eMMC image, then that is not provided.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 месяца назад

      With Sony TV sets made between 2015-2018 you have to pair your mainboard and T-con together for them to work. If I have a 100% working TV but decide to remove my mainboard from my Sony TV and put in a new mainboard in, it won't work. It needs to be paired to the TV. Once I have it paired, the TV then will turn on and work. If I now decide to put my original mainboard back in for some reason, it won't work because now the TV is paired with the replacement mainboard I installed and no longer paired with the original. So now I have to pair the original mainboard back with my TV.
      It's not 100% like that but that's kind of the basic idea.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      Depends on the size and weight of the circuit board and package as well as the courier and speed. We have had people send us circuit boards for repair from Europe, Africa, the middle east, and Hongkong before. Not all international boards are repairable by us however if they are software failures. For example, Sony boards such as this one with software failures, we can only service the North American version of the model as there are differences in the software and how they operate.
