Glen and Mado! Was so lovely for Emma and me to meet you guys, thank you for inspiring me to start my own channel!! Hopefully we see you guys on your way back up the coast!
Such a blowout seeing people you follow online check out your own backyard. Im from Shellharbour which is between the Gong and Kiama. The industrial area you pointed out is the Port Kembla Steelworks, and the port is the port of Port Kembla. Good to see you enjoyed it! I’m sure you’ll be back!
I love how different the two of you are from other travellers who just seem to want to complain about how different Australia is from their home countries. You just seem to love everything.
Some local info: Bald Hill is used by Hang Gliding enthusiasts. They usually land on that beach (Stanwell Park). Engadine: pronunciation of 3rd syllable is like Engadeen Kiama: pronunciation of 1st syllable is like Ky-ama 🙂
Glad you enjoyed my home town. Wouldn't live anywhere else, go to bed each night listening to the Pacific lullaby (surf crashing) and wake up to the same. I grew up in Thirroul raising terror through those streets as a kid with my mates. A completely different suburb now, back then you lived out there because you couldn't live closer to Wollongong or you worked in the mines. Love it.
This area is my home.I grew up in the area and still live there.I was born in Coledale and I went to primary school at Scarborough.I’m a first generation Aussie. My dad was from Glasgow. My ancestors really picked a good place to migrate to from the UK.
Hi again folks. I'm giving you another really useful quick tip. I see from your video's that your using your phone for GPS navigation which is a really smart thing to do, I do the same thing. I discovered that when I had my phone mounted low, on the dash like you have now the Aussie, summer heat caused my phone to overheat, necessitating it to shut down some of its apps and CPU usage until it cooled off. One of those apps it shut down was my Tom Tom navigation app. The best solution I found was to mount my phone high up on the windscreen, beside the rear view mirror in a landscape orientation. This meant that it got so much less direct sunlight on it during the hottest time of the day and it was still easy to check whenever I looked at the rear view mirror. It also makes it much easier to see against a bright, sun lit backdrop and it also gives slightly better phone signal reception /transmission.
I was the man who was driving my Electrical van towards Helensberg on the coast road when an avalanche occurred in front of me. I backed up for kms until safe and parked the van across the road. The bridge was then built.
Should've bought a lottery ticket ! That would have taken some fancy fast reversing I reckon. I bet that became your pub story. Just like " it was this big 🙌 (the fish that got away) 😂 ... only joking. You were one lucky bloke ! It wasn't your time, thank goodness.
When you came of the sky bridge into Scarborough you missed the Scarborough hotel. A beer garden that i rate in the top t in Australia. Sheer cliffs with views out to the ocean👌
That's my home!! Ulladulla, Burrill Lake, Dolphin Point. Sad you didn't get to the squeakiest beach you'll ever be on, Rennies and the Bombie. I used to work at Murramarang resort in Durras in my early 20's. Even though it was just a fly through, I'm glad to got to see the most beautiful parts of the South Coast (way better than the North coast haha!). That's a caravan park (Burrill Lake/Dolphin Point) in the distance you pointed to on the water and a bit further round that rock platform you can walk and see the most spectacular sand stone carved rocks. It's high tide when you were there though. You should see it when it's calm, absolutely stunning at that inlet! You can camp overnight there too in that carpark.
For anyone wanting to take a slower trip from Sydney along the Grand Pacific Drive, I would suggest you turn off at Heathcote (one of the last southern suburbs of Sydney) to the Royal National Park and follow the drive on the outskirts of the park (or visit Bundeena if you have time and see some more of the national park). Take the road to Stanwell Park and visit all the small towns before the Sea Cliff Bridge. There are some lovely pie shops along the way. (P.S. The Royal National Park was the second opened in the world, only a week after Yosemite)
My Nephew and family live in Kiama. I used to have a shop in Gerringong just south. We had a caravan in a park at South Durras, now we have one in Moruya, just before the bridge into town on the right. ♥
So glad you visited the Gong! There are so many beach pools along the east coast, and in Wollongong there is one for just about every coastal suburb. I’m lucky to work a few minutes from the beach, and so summer often involves a refreshing swim after being in the office all day. Seeing the area through your eyes has made me appreciate it even more. Safe travels. ☺️☺️
Stay cool and hydrated this summer, you’re going to have some scorcher days. Maybe buy some extra sunscreen ! (Australia’s sun not to be taken lightly)
This is our home turf. Living in the Sutherland Shire (southern most area of Sydney where Engadine is) the South Coast is our go to for day trips and weekends away. It’s lovely to see it all from the point of view of travellers I love the way you guys pronounce the towns. I was wondering where “Tirell” was and then I saw Thirroul on the screen :)
Unfortunately it’s gone now, but you knew you were in Wollongong with the site of the Port Kembla stack. I went to Port Kembla Primary School & our playground was across the road. So many great memories. Enjoy our beautiful country.
Hi guys Nice to see you having a good time. I do enjoy your videos. A few places suggestions for you guys to consider to visit, if you still have the time in Sydney. Is at the Southern Highlands, Kangaroo valley, Berry, Hunter valley, Coffs Harbor and Byron Bay. Mount Koscioszko, Fitzroy Falls Lookout and the Royal National Park is nice if you into nature and hikes
Great watching you discover places I know well. I’m in Wollongong, my sister in Ulladulla and a good friend is in Batemans Bay. I know you are on a quick trip to Melbourne but there is so much to see that you missed along the way. If you ever get the chance to do the trip again take longer and really explore, it’s worth it.
My beautiful state 😎😎 Mado, I am impressed....you pronounced Wollongong correctly 😊 IF you go back up the coast, say Port Stephens, they have whale watching boat tours - or take a camel ride along the beach if that is your preference...
Currently sitting at Wollongong lighthouse watching your video, glad you enjoyed our beautiful area. Pro tip, ask the locals about pronunciations of our towns, i do have a little chuckle though. Safe travels legands.
Congrats on your conversion. Looks efficient and comfy! 😁 Heading south, the ocean will always be on your left! 🤣 Wollongong was also originally a COAL PORT. Australia was actually a driving force to stop the commercial killing of whales. We helped establish the "Southern Whale Sanctuary". Here we go. Correct pronunciations... @ 0:20 En - ga - DEEN. @ 7:14 Scar - bra. @ 12:58 Thi - ROOL. @ 21:41 KEYE-am-ah @ 28:27 Jerr-ing-gong I hope these help! 😁😁 M 🦘🏏😎
After you left Engadine, you should have visited The Royal National Park, and then on the way to Wollongong, visited Sublime Point lookout. Amazing View. Near Thirroul, you would have liked Austinmir,----2 sea pools.
Sea cliff drive looks better when you are driving from Wollongong to Sydney . You see the cliff line better . I love it down there . I really enjoy your vlogs .please visit Jervis Bay and also Lake Conjola . The beaches of Jervis bay have pure white sands .sadly you missed it .
Your DIY job looks good, nice job. The wood may be flexing slightly which is why the egg was broken. It might need extra support, perhaps a horizontal piece.
I’m glad you’re enjoying Australia. Since you’re around Wollongong you can head out to the Royal National Park and do the coastal walk. It’s a very long stretch but you can do the different sections. Try Figure 8 Pool, the Wedding Cake Rock, Wattamolla Beach, Garie Beach to name a few. Also further south going to Jervis Bay - Hyam’s Beach the whitest sand in the world.
I spent my childhood visiting my cousins in Wollongong in the '60s and '70s. Fun fact, they use to offer a reward for capturing Argentine Ants. Us cousins did Oz a favour, and we earned heaps of money lol. The nuns loved us coming 😁 We got paid, I think, $1 or thereabouts a jar. We thought we were the ants' pants collecting all this money.🙄ok a bit of humour thrown in 🤪 Those whale pics are amazing. I live on the mid north coast of NSW and in twenty years I have missed seeing the whale migration go past. So I'm actually jealous 😂 You guys are doing an amazing job filming. It's so nice to see vloggers filming away from the cities. It makes us appreciate our own country. It makes me want to hit the road again. Warning, though, to you guys. Never dive in unknown waterholes. Check them out first. The outback tends to have underlying weeds and logs, and coastal can have rocks, even in the beach swimming pools.. depends on the beach and if the local council clears them. You can crack your head open on them. 🤕 Btw you guys did a great job with the conversion on your Rav. Do yourself a favour and go to a Bunnings and get a little camping light that is USB charged, and hook it to your boot for cooking. It's so much easier. Plus, you can see in the dark and use it as a torch if need be. I love seeing the excitement on your faces. We are proud of our land. These trips are memories you'll cherish and remember forever. ❤ Last time I went to Wollongong Bulli Pass was being improved. Oldies will probably remember that it used to be a death trap with Semi trailer trucks riding their brakes all the way down the mountain. Thank goodness it was fixed. In the early '80s. I was coming down Bulli Pass and blew two pistons in my car 😬 I nearly sht myself 😅 I seriously prayed, hoping that I wouldn't get any red lights at the bottom. My prayers were answered. God must've heard me yelling, "Oh god, oh god, plus a few holy sht thrown in along the way down the mountain hahaha I hung the biggest right hand bend down the bottom, because I ran out of road then it quit, phew. The pistons had gone through both sides of my engine. I never have been through there again 😆 it scared the daylights out of me and everything else 😅 Anyhow, take care guys, stay safe, and have a great time ❤
Bendalong Point rustic caravan park, just after Nowra, and before Ulladulla. The beach at the caravan park, you can feed manta-rays and sting rays by hand at the beach, they swim up to you.
I lived just up from where you had breakfast. Beautiful, beautiful Coledale. Back then it was little more than a bunch of coal miner cottages and fibro demountables, really. Now it’s a multi million dollar playground. And you’re right, we ARE lucky to live here 😊
The Pubs along that bit of coast are good especially when opposite the beach much like the Pubs between Townsville and Innisfail where many are oposite the park then the beach over the highway an d North Queensland drink Tasmanian Beer and it comes in Jugs at some pubs just the thing on a hot day
If you still have your wood saw, just take a small angle off the corner of the fold back section of the bed base so it doesn't get caught on the seat belt.
Very glad you got to see my Home town of Stanwell Park, where I grew up. Bald Hill was my hang out place. Can't afford to move back down there, I miss it. I'm angry they built a Carpark up there and let the Harleys run up and down, the noise would echo everywhere in the Park. Too many People there now.
Drive back into the Royal National Park and go to Wattamolla ....Heaven's picnic area.... Well it seems you headed too far south for that, but if you haven't gone to far south, you might care to look into going to either, Lake Conjola, or Lake Tabourie, or both!!! these two destinations are HUGE holiday destinations for Sydneysiders... Geringgong is also nice close to 7 mile beach. But don't miss, Milton and especially Ulladulla!!! But you simply MUST GO TO JERVIS BAY!!!
Fun Fact: Woolongong and Newcastle are on the 'edge' of a huge Coal Seam that is shaped like a Bowl. They both sit on opposite sides. 1980s I used to Sell to BHP and the Engineering Guys in Newcastle showed me the maps. 👀
There is a grand pacific drive walk. It's wonderful. I live in Wollongong, I have done it. It's the best. Also just near the bridge is a seal colony. I also think there is a whale watching app. Also in Jervis Bay you can go whale watching.
Hope you have a tent and 2 camp chairs and table..they easy to pack up...cramped in the car gets a bit to much.safe travels. Quite warm in Melbourne next 10 days cooler after that for a bit then probably hot New years eve.one year it was 30 at night.our cat ate a slug it foamed up l stuck the hose in the cats mouth.😂😂.
You should invest in a pair of binoculars. Kmart & Big W have a range of them for $20-$40 dollars. For your needs, (occasional whale and dolphin spotting) the quality is plenty good enough.
Dusk and dawn are the worst times to be driving when it comes to roos. It's when they're most active. They tend to move little during the heat of the day and move about, looking for food, in the soft light of dawn and dusk. Yes, they're a problem at night too and often hard to see. A large kangaroo will do a lot of damage to a fast-moving car. In some cases, enough to produce an insurance write-off.
Dont worry Glen, im 32 now and i still love seeing kangaroos out in the wild. Just be careful on your trip down to Melbourne especially in the dark you’ll find there will be a lot of dead ones
Loving the way you pronounce the names of our towns, especially a German speaking Irish English! I used to make fun of an Irish friend by asking him what is the slowest speed for a vinyl record player (33 1/3 rpm)... By the way as a tourist how did you manage to convert the car to sleep in? Oops, I just saw your video that answers that question.
And stealing your lunch right out of your hands. Beware, the smart ones have worked out that they can dive-bomb from behind you, over your shoulder, just as you are bringing your food to your mouth.
The south coast of NSW is amazingly beautiful. Very lucky to call this place home.
Its the best.
Glen and Mado! Was so lovely for Emma and me to meet you guys, thank you for inspiring me to start my own channel!! Hopefully we see you guys on your way back up the coast!

haha we need to appreciate the little things and be grateful that we get to live and breath fresh air everyday!
Some local info: Bald Hill is used by Hang Gliding enthusiasts. They usually land on that beach (Stanwell Park).
Engadine: pronunciation of 3rd syllable is like Engadeen
Kiama: pronunciation of 1st syllable is like Ky-ama
🙂
Plus Engadine is in Sydney.
You have to make it clearer, like: ENGADINE - ENG-gah-deen and KIAMA - ky-AM-ah
"It's only 3 hours (drive)" LOL you're talking like a local now Mado!
Love the way Mado says ‘Wollongong’ and ‘Kiama’ 😊
I’m so lucky to have grown up on this part of the coastline! 🥰
Glad you enjoyed my home town. Wouldn't live anywhere else, go to bed each night listening to the Pacific lullaby (surf crashing) and wake up to the same. Best memories hey 🎉
Did you miss Jervis bay Hyams beach, one of the most famous in NSW.
Glen I'm Australian and I see kangaroos pretty much every day while I'm walking the dog - but I never get tired of seeing them :)
This area is my home.I grew up in the area and still live there.I was born in Coledale and I went to primary school at Scarborough.I’m a first generation Aussie. My dad was from Glasgow. My ancestors really picked a good place to migrate to from the UK.
Wow, you got the Whale shots! Such great scenery all through this video.
I've lived in rural, Victoria all my life. At the age of 70 yrs young, I still enjoy our wildlife.
Great stuff, love your interviews of random locals

What a buzz to see you in Kiama’ my neck of the woods. Loving your videos and commentary..happy trails ❤🏄🏻

Marvellous video G & M, I always wanted to visit Kiama, but the bright lights of Sydney kept from travelling. It looks a great seaside town. Cheers x
We were down that way recently. Loved to see about 30 seals on the breakwall at Narooma.
Also Russell Island, 5 minute ferry ride from Lakes Entrance has a lot of koalas in the trees as you walk around.
When you came of the sky bridge into Scarborough you missed the Scarborough hotel. A beer garden that i rate in the top t in Australia. Sheer cliffs with views out to the ocean👌
I'm loving this series guys. Nsw south coast is beautifull. Thanks for the videos

I love the sea cliff bridge, an engineering marvel. Great video guys.
:D You should definitely do a coffee video! You guys have definitely been sucked into Australian coffee culture!
as a fellow glen i approve of this video, im in sydney australia :) hope you guys enjoy your time here.
My Nephew and family live in Kiama. I used to have a shop in Gerringong just south. We had a caravan in a park at South Durras, now we have one in Moruya, just before the bridge into town on the right. ♥

We definitely do our best and try to consume about 5 liters of water a day :) thanks so much for the donation and we pack on the suncream everyday lol
You guys are doing what most Aussies do when they retire...enjoy your trip and as always stay safe.
Most of the people I know did the loop when we were young.
My favourite area. LOVE Tathra is the best Place I have been .And Burmagui and Eden
This is our home turf. Living in the Sutherland Shire (southern most area of Sydney where Engadine is) the South Coast is our go to for day trips and weekends away. Hi guys
Nice to see you having a good time.
Bald hill is my happy place. Often end up there after a drive to clear my head. No better place to let it all go and reset the mind.
Sharkies ... you did good - happy Wollongong ❤🎉🎉🎉

Cooper Street, Engadine great spot to spend the night.

A Welsh hero of mine was Steve Jones a world record holder in the Marathon in the 80s Chicago Marathon 1985.
I skydived from 14,000ft at North Wollongong beach. It was Radical
Grew up going to Durras every summer, it’s an amazing place. Hope you went to Pebbly Beach and enjoyed the thousands of kangaroos around there 🦘
If you head further south to Merimbula, Pambula etc., hope you get stuck in to the oysters! 🦪 amazing
Try and stop in at Narooma
Also Mystery Bay about 10km south of Narooma... I built a house and lived there for 8 years ... amazing spot.
You should invest in a pair of binoculars. Kmart & Big W have a range of them for $20-$40 dollars. For your needs, (occasional whale and dolphin spotting) the quality is plenty good enough.
Hi Glen, hi Mado. Ty both for this video, please wear sun cream and a cap. PLEASEEEEEEEEEE. I liked and shared on my twitter.
Don’t worry about the mess in the car, live in a motor home and there is always a mess when travelling/driving…😊
Love your vlogs ❤
hahah thanks very much, that makes things better. smaller space so we need to be super organised and thanks again for tuning in :)
What DJI drone are you flying mate?
The only killer monsters in Kiama are the seagulls pooping on you 🤣
And stealing your lunch right out of your hands. Beware, the smart ones have worked out that they can dive-bomb from behind you, over your shoulder, just as you are bringing your food to your mouth.
It would have been nice if someone had told you about Bombo
