Guys, i did some digging and apparently Brandon started playing guitar at the age of 10, and has been playing for 17 years. But the source of the 17 years might not be up to date tho. So i'm guessing he's in his late 20's. (For those of you wondering, i found out he started playing at the age of 10 on his website, and in his 14 day guitar player website he said that he's been playing for 17 years in a video. It's a video, that's why i thought it may not be up to date.)
The notes that make a chord. For example, a C major chord is made up by the notes C, E and G. C being the root note, E being the major third and G being the perfect 5th. These are the chord tones, also called a major triad. For a minor triad you'll just have to flatten the major third to a minor third. This is a good place to start, once you're comfortable you can also use the 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th to make it more interesting.
@@dangallagher6176 Not actually, if you're playing in the C major scale or any relative scale, you just have to focus on the C major chord tones. Something I do is ending phrases on the chord tones to avoid screwing up the harmony.
@@dangallagher6176 yeah you should learn the whole fret board and for a really basic improvisation, yeah you can use just the chord triads which is very good to practice and get the hang of. Then start adding the 7th, 9th(2nd in the next octave) 11th(4th) and 13th(6th). These tones are the notes you want to target at the start and end of phrases. This will help you see arpeggios more rather than scale shapes. Also this is a general rule of thumb you can do anything as long as you like the sound of it. If learning the notes on fret board seems a bit hard, don't worry it will all sink in eventually and you'll know all the notes on the board
i have one of those problems, when i decide to play any scale i always start from the first position and while i am playing i count up/down the scalt to move to other positions, i mean if i want to play for example d minor pentatonic i can't start like from the third position immediately no i need to start with the first position. what should i do?
You could memorize where the roots are in each pattern..... I think the better way is to learn the caged chord shape for each position. There's a minor and major chord for each of the 5 pentatonic scale shapes e.g. in A minor there are 5 A minor chords you could play and 5 C major chords (C major being the relative of A minor). You can then use the roots and other notes in the chord to play the underlying scale shape.
Guy gives it to you in a dirty glass. No one in Canada knows he has a potty mouth. He's leaning into the u.s. I gotta question: when you play Air Guitar, do you imagine a melodious tone on the bass strings? NO! I I hang on the 72nd feet, nothing but the "E" string!
Lololol bro, just stumbled across you today, fukin amazing 🤣. My kind of nut job, cheers 🤣. PS might have to save my shmeckles for your dank sounding coarse, the anticipation is killing me....
U know u annoyed me a long time Brandon, But then I realised were so much alike and ur personality was just ur sarcasm which I looked at as technically I pissed myself off lol, All of a sudden u became funny and I became a fan. Great player and good logical guy and teacher, Keep smashing it dude!
Any advice anyone here for targeting chord tones. When soloing over something for the first few times doing all these things and creating nice melodies is ok but hitting the chord tones is not. I have to have my rhythm player call out the chords to me as he plays them so I know where to stop.
Hi there! The link to 'How To Improvise & Solo On Guitar' takes me to some weird websites (every time I click takes me to a different one). Is it broken or is there no course?
Hey Brandon.... I'm on the waiting list for the next course, opening up in June. I have a couple questions regarding the material. Is there anyway to contact you?

You are by FAR the best Virgin guitar player I have seen on RUclips!
I never thought I'd see the day where a Canadian called me a bitch.
I like that you're Canadian, but also kind of abrasive. That's rare.
Wtf is a chord tone? :(

@@jrs2080 ohh nice! So would that basically involve knowing all C's E's and G's across the fretboard, in order to solo in the key of C?
@@dangallagher6176 I need to know this to

He sounds like my dad, and he's a drummer. 😮
All your Tips are always great and insightful. They motivate me to practice and improve at guitar every day.
ur playing sounds like scale too bro
so like what's that backing track u got playing there Brandon? 👀
As a drummer trying to get back into guitar, I thank you for these videos
O.K. Maistro/Master. Got It. From Guadalajara Mexico.
So instead of sounding scalar, I should sound vector?
Please forgive me, I couldn't resist making that shitty joke.
I love this guy
Every time I watch his videos I feel personally attacker 😂
X-Ring gang
Honestly, sitting there swearing in your underwear doesn't make your videos very appealing, no matter how good your content may be ...
What if I only like to use the EADG strings in my solo and improvisation?
You ll become popular when you'll have personality and creativity !
Or maybe your hair is worse than both I don’t know
