Thank you for the video. I need to split the case on my ‘14, and clean the screens. Got some debris up top and grooved the journals in the head and cams. Unfortunate but I’d rather that than a motor. Your video gives me confidence.
Thats a bummer man but it could always be worse i also did a more recent tear down video and a new rebuild video as well its a 3 part series. I am working on another rebuild video now that will be one longer vid of the whole entire build.

Hello. I am trying to rebuild the engine of my yfz450 2004. when I was disassembling the housing a ball came out like a bearing and I don't know where it is from. will you have idea where it goes?
I just picked up my first ever yfz 450 04. I just got into riding a year ago.. but I've been hooked with blasters and raptor 80's lol( for my kids) but I've been building engines blasters and 80s anyway yesterday I picked up the 04 yfz450 and its not supposed to be working (I haven't tried cranking it. Since the guy says top end is bad) if oil upgrade is done what else should I be doing like I've read about stator not charging battery maybe upgrading crankshaft, bigger bore and piston? Cams or cam? I also have a friend with his 05 yfz450 that has been sitting for like 7-8 years but he wants to do big bore upgrade any recommendations maybe also a crankshaft bore set up cams and port & polish.. so since I did the engine rebuild on my 05 ram 1500 and other quads he has some faith in me and wants me to fix his.. any help would be great..but even since last year I've been watching these yfz 450r videos u a bad dude..and thanx for sharing them.
My builds i send the heads out for porting and cams and +1 valves. I run stock bore but high compression piston’s and a bored throttle body and fci intake keep in mind this is for the efi yfz450r the carbed models while you can do the same you would need to jet it for any of the above mods. I always do new oem cranks and all the bearings in the entire cases. I prefer high compression over big bore kits for racing.
I run blud racing lubricants its really good oil and doesn’t break down fast like others ive used in the past! I have a oil change vid i did not too long ago have a look at it!
Respect John. As I can see you doing this just for a second time - hahahahha, no more! Just a quick question - as I see the video Engine is looking really good and clean inside. What is idea of tear it down? Do you heard some noice or anything that make you tear it, or just to be sure that everything inside is OK?
The head needs to be sent out for a service the quad wouldn’t start after that last woods o cross race i ran and i have a small crack on the cases which doesn’t affect them at all so I’m gna replace the cases and do a new crank, bearings and then a new piston, cylinder! This one should have lasted a little longer but after the mud at ironman it trashed the top end i had some get in the intake and sucked threw!
U deff know these motors. Thats for damn sure lol I just bought the 520. 5mm 98mm kit from bp racing. Going to get headwork done. U think stock cams, valve train with kibblewhite guides and seals be ok? If I went stage 2 later could I still use stock valve train? Thanks for any input man!!! Liking these yfz vids. Just wondering how much/how hard would it be to swap the transmission in my 19 yfz450r. I have the motor all disconnected and pulled haven’t started tearing into the motor at all, quite nervous cause of how new it is. My problem all started when I ran a tree limb through the front sprocket and and now the quad just shuts off everytime it’s not in neutral and loud strange clunking noise, also rolls in gear with the motor off.
