Hey All! Thank you for all of the awesome comments and support. To answer the commonly asked economy question. I cruise at 1200-1300 rpm right around 8-8.5kts burning around 5GPH. It cost me around $4200 in Fuel to get up the coast. The engines are Cummins 6BTAs 330hp each. Thanks for watching, I have a lot more awesome content coming!
www.intoodeepmerch.com
Yikes the fuel bill alone would buy you a nice sailboat in trade :)
Awesome trip video !GLIDE ON THR
Are you going to sell the boat?
FYI. Right around the swing bridges and cut entrances are fueling docs. Pull in at around dark and they will be closed. Tie up at the pump and you can sleep there until they open. Then get some ice or whatever and go on to the next one. It is fun.
Wouldn't it faster to just stay like say 50 mi off shore motor up there.? Not a captain but own a boat.
Best line of the video!
“You know I’m all alone, sometimes you just need someone to hangout with so you go hang out with the engines”
So relatable haha.
Incredible video of your journey! Can't wait for more content!
Made trip many times back and forth for customers. I have to say this, as a 100 ton master of oceans captain. I have never once left the pilot house under power, nor would even think of going out on deck solo handling the boat with out an inflatable vest. It’s real nice you making the trip. Situations can certainly go south in a heartbeat. It’s all about safety. Good luck
😂
Good advise I thought the same and I don't know shit🎉
So sailing is out of the question Captain? Last I knew, US Navy Sailor here btw, when solo sailing one keeps a 2 hour sleep schedule to get through the trip. It would be impossible otherwise. With radar and all the warning systems, a small vessel is perfectly safe with no one at the helm out in open water, with sailing it is required for the smallest task often as well as the more important ones.
@@JSabh simple: if you are solo, on deck wear a PFD and appropriate deck shoes. I never leave the helm unattended. Throw it in Neutral. Retired Mastrr after 51 years with an excellent safety record. If you wanna sleep, helm unattended, have at it. Not me moving someone else’s yacht to and from NY to Florida. Pretty sure my customers would like me to be awake while the boats moving… but, that’s just me
I couldn't sleep with it going on auto. Kinda like tesla have auto pilot same deal. Any little noise I would just be not able.
No fancy drone shots or overdone cinematics and edits, just a dude and his camera, blatant use of copyright music, getting roasted in the comments for not being entirely 100% safe all the time... I feel like I've stepped back in time to the absolute peak of RUclips movies! I like your style.
Fancy?
Absolutely, it's such a joy
True

I am not even a boater. I GET SEA SICK. Your journey was entertaining and well documented. I watched both part 1 and 2 and am begging for more. Keep sharing. You belong on a boat in front of a camera.
Gus, seriously you are the best boating videographer on YT. We felt we were watching a great movie with all the adventures you had and the way you discussed what you were doing, how the boat was going and what was going on outside, exactly the things we sailors lap up. We've done that exact trip twice about 10 years ago and you've brought back so many great memories. So pleased for you and keep up the great work. Well done on an amazingly successful trip. Hats off.
Awesome video man keep them coming
Yes love these videos. Hoping one day I can do an adventure like this.
No way ,TRYING NOT TO SINK is best !
You are awesome! Enjoyed the trip, very entertaining. Keep posting ❤
Who’s we
Thank you Gus for helping the other boat, I'm a retired commercial fisherman from Maine.. It don't matter what you are if your in trouble we'll come and help.. Next trip let me know I'll go lol
Why can't we put 10^10^10 likes on posts ?
I stumbled on your part one video thinking I was going to skim through it, I ended up watching the whole thing, came straight to this video and subbed lol This is so entertaining to watch
Always enjoy. You are truly a courageous adventurer. You are living your life like very few. Your confidence is inspiring. For even a 68 retired guy
As a kid in the 60s I lived close to the old Hatteras plant in High Point NC I would ride my bike over to the factory about every day and just stare at the beautiful boats .
You are living out my dream.
🤮 did someone say High Point? Lol (inside firearms joke)...
There is still a boat company at that location.
That was a fantastic journey! Seriously, FL to Maine on your own Hatteras??!! That something most boat loving folks dream about! Keep it going!!
Dreaming about it right now as a matter of fact!
Gus, love your vids. You’ve got some balls making that trip by yourself.
I had a 50 foot Stevens, triple cabin motor yacht built in 1966 with twin V8 diesels. I’ll give you props for handling your boat single-handed but as you know these things are remarkably maneuverable with twin screws. Have fun I’m enjoying watching your travels.
Hi Gus, your trip from Miami to Maine was best boating traveling vidio I I've ever seen. I'm from San Francisco and boated all over the Delta for years. I know your feeling. The west coast is different then the east coast as you know. No ICW here. Love your life I'll follow your videos. Good luck. John.
Gus, I am extremely happy for you, boy...extremely happy. You are doing what I wish I could do right now or, at least, could've done 35 years ago. Of course, though, I had no clue life was going to bring me to a place where I'd come to realize the value of a life[read:freedom] on the water. So, from a breaking down ol'land-lover as myself, keep it up, son. Sail the seas, and be free.
CONTINUE TO BE FREE FOR ALL THOSE WHO CAN'T BE.
... .
My Dad and I sailed through the east river many times. We had our boats set up in College Point Queens. I miss that so much, we had the best of times. Gus, these are life saving moments for you brother, Keep them close to your heart. Good Luck Bro..
Brought back great memories i had a friend in 1984 who bought the identical yacht , we lived in CT flew down to Pier 66 in FT Lauderdale we were inside and when the weather cooperated ran outside, made it to CT in 5 days no problems as the yacht was only a few years old at purchase, had some wild times the next few summers in Newport and Nantucket stay safe great content !!!!
Great replys
Hey Gus, so glad your back, your my hero! We made the trip in this video, Vero Beach to Chrisfield MD this time last year! Brings by back memories! Your doing a fabulous job with your yaghting, Floater Home!⚓️💕😎👍
Wow! Epic voyage! A bit hairy going overnight from Norfolk to NYC in fog, single-handed but glad no major issues. You managed the whole thing very competently, that boat is a lot to handle by yourself, especially without a bow thruster. Well done. What a terrific feeling to return to Maine after your great trip south in the Albin, living the good life in Florida, returning to Maine in a big, handsome Hatteras. Looking forward to hearing about how the summer went in Maine.
an adventure...like being on deck. you narrate well. not a lot of fluff, you point out coo lthings. you are boss...as well as the Coolest Captain..Hold fast..keep the adventures coming my man...
I am a lifelong resident of Dare county and worked in the custom sport fish industry in wanchese for nearly every boat builder. I know exactly how harrowing Oregon Inlet can be. But your video from Beaufort to Adams Creek pass Maul Point at the confluence of the Neuse and Bay River past RE Mayo and USCG station hobucken is a stretch I am intimately familiar with. So I can totally relate to the beating you were taking in the smaller Albin in your previous video. The most scared and the most praying I have done in any boat was near Maul Point in February 2002. I was making a solo trip from Hobucken to Atlantic Beach via Adams Creek in a 25' Parker. If I recall it was a hard NW with the typical confused Sea state. I had family and a young lady waiting for me in Atlantic Beach and I was determined to complete the trip. It was a trip I was familiar with under all conditions day or night. But it got the best of me on that fateful day. When the impact of the top of my head collided with the cabin ceiling so many times my vision was being affected by blood dripping down my face I had no choice. It was so hairy bringing her back around, abandoning my course, putting her bow in the wind. Long story short I thanked the good Lord above and held my girl tight when I finally made it to her. Thank you for bringing it all back to me.
After subscribing since years to hundreds of sailing channels it's sooo refreshing to see some motor boatin for a change! love your channel, and I know from personal experience how much extra time it takes to rig cameras when you're working so totally understand why you're not bothering with it in many situations. That trip looks like a really fun adventure! Cheers from Sweden!
Very cool video Gus. I have a 100 ton masters and ran yachts out of San Diego when I was your age. I'm now 66 and enjoy your videos very much. That was a wonderful part of my life. Keep up the good work and enjoy. Thank You
I don’t know if you mentioned your age but I see that you’re a young guy. I give you a lot of credit for doing this. You strike me as a very ambitious young man. Kudos to you I have journeys of my own that I want to go on but I am just not in the financial position to do that with kids and all. I will absolutely buy a T-shirt to help support your Journey.. keep the videos coming they’re great
Another cool ass Video, thanks for making it..................
Having never been to New York yet, its always amazing to me to see how close to the water the skyscrapers are. Its just nuts how they are able to build them like that.
Watching this from The Netherlands, youre amazing man. True Hero!
The World needs more offshore content from you and your vessel. Please keep it up bro ❤
What a great trip reminds me of my trip through Cape Cod channel last year on a 58’ Viking. What a blast! Would do again tomorrow if I could.
As a note the Viking had two 1100 hp Detroit diesels and burned 38 GPH each at 21 knots.
good for it
It is such a joy to watch you doing what you do. I love your video's. You have achieved so much and have good reason to be so proud of that. Love & light from Cape Town.🎉😀🍹
Great content, great life! You take me back to kid days in Miami helping my dad after school working on boats like your Bella in all the marinas all over South Florida. You are livin' the dream! My wife and I are working towards cashing out of the rat-race life to buy a live-aboard and cruise the world by the time we are 50 (just around the corner!). I wish we would have done it sooner. Love seeing you living life. Rock on! 🤙
so much fun watching you go through NYC area. Grew up there and recognized all the bridges!! Beautiful boat! Thanks for sharing!
,
I noticed a little discolor on wood trim around front windshield. Seal them up, along with the 1000 other things on THE LIST. Well done.
Life line on deck with a harness is an absolute rule you set and don't ever break.
Great job handling that boat solo Gus ! The life at sea moving boats ...brings back great memories ! Thanks Gus !
Wow what an awesome journey! Ive been a boater my whole adult life just not at this scale, So jealous . You must be stoked. I will say it again, that boat is absolutely stunning. Thanks for the entertainment.
Fantastic video, epic journey. I always say, every time we go out on a boat something breaks! You kept up on that tradition!! Luckily it wasn't your good self that broke!! Well done Chief - you did it your way!! John
Great job captain calling that vessel taking on water boaters always help each other ❤ your follower Bruce
Love these videos.... I am a huge boat fanatic who dreams of sailing the world with my family! Oh and after I started to watch your videos I realized, you were from NH. Same!! Grew up in Hooksett! Wicked awesome!!
Your adventures are a lot of fun to watch Gus. Doing ballsy travels on the cheap in a salvaged boat, it's awesome man. Keep up the good work
Alrighty! Thanks for an incredible trip. I moved to Maine from Boston this year and spent most of the summer on Casco Bay. I was super impressed you did this trip solo on a boat that size. Love your positive upbeat attitude. Viva La Vida!
Portland Maine is a wonderful little city to hang out in. I am so jealous. Congrats on a flawless trip. You obviously prepped magnificently.
Thank you for taking us along on your journey. A day on the ocean is better than a day in the office.
We love your videos! I started out with boating with a basket case 16 foot bow rider in Indiana. We moved to Saint Petersburg Florida five years ago. We brought our second twenty foot lake boat down here. We then bought a new twenty four foot center console boat in 2020. We are selling it now. I want a trawler like yours. Thank for the great videos!!!!
wróng searay 24 sundaçer hybrudé
Shout out to the coast guard
Like firefighters, I hope that I never have to see them but I'm sure glad that we can count on them to be there when they're needed
Absolute legends
Great adventure, thanks for bringing us along. I enjoy watching you fix stuff as it breaks. Great attitude, always a good day!
Gus, I have enjoyed this video immensely. Brings back memories from when my mom travelled on her Albion Trawler from Halifax to Sarasota for years .
Great vid Gus!
Thanks for taking us along!
Hope summer was great and you got all your "messing about on boats" chores/list whittled down!
Cheers brother!
Matt
well done watched the entire video in one shot, single handed in the open ocean you got balls Gus , it was a privilege
I live in Newport News Virginia but I'm all over the areas you were traversing. I must say it is really cool seeing the bridges and other stuff I drive over everyday from a different perspective.
If I had the money I would personally get a norhaven or some other type of twin screw steel hull trawler style yatch.
However a Retro or Classic that you Rescued/ Revived back to life Despite the age or condition, Old school is true tried tested and Get you home Reliable.
I would rock that boat man. Best of luck I hope to see this boat in more videos and another journey in it.
You need to get one of those life jackets that inflates if you fall in the water. Maybe one would sponsor you for all of the solo trips you make
Awesome sailing from south to north. Your boat handled it very well!
You are awesome! I am itching my sailing itch through you vicariously. Thank you!
Great series Captain Gus. Really enjoyed sharing your journey. A real pleasure to watch.
Hey man, great videos. I had a similar experience with a 1968 Pacemaker 36' single screw. Not quite as an extensive trip as yours but man, what a pig that boat was. All wood and she floated just because.. well, because wood floats lol. Keep the videos coming and good luck with that boat. She's a beauty.
The trip looked amazing! The videos and photos you posted are top notch. To do the last part solo takes some serious resolve. Keep it going!
Fabulous video, both parts. Totally enjoyed your adventure. Thanks for taking me along with you. Wishing you nothing but the best. Stay safe and stay well.
Your journey has really impressed me. I’ve been boating all my life, only the Great Lakes. Would love to do the great American loop and you inspire me to do it. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Thanks for taking us with you! I love your attitude! Keep up the great videos! I cannot wait to see what you did over the summer!
Congratulations Gus! I enjoyed watching all your hard work pay off. Keep going and don't let anything get in the way of enjoying it. Best wishes.
In 1968 my father had a 32 foot mahogany cabin cruiser. We spent the whole summer on it. My mom will take care of as my father would leave for work from the boat. He had a slip on the Long Island side of the sound. I got 8 mm reel to reel of me and my sister is playing on the boat while my dad was flying through the sound memories memories soon I’ll be a memory.
Hey my brother I'm a new sub, but I literally just happened to see your Part 1 and was so impressed with all your content. Looking forward to checking out all your vids. God bless
Loving these videos just found your channel. What an amazing experience so wish I could have a boat and do all what you are. I’m from the UK, have you ever thought about doing a long trip with your mate to the UK or somewhere ? Would make an amazing long video 😂😂😂😂
Would make an amazing video you coming in like this to London with all the skyscrapers on show, and that longer trip down the river themes 😆😆 maybe one for the future as the channel picks up ? 😂
Have just read it’s dangerous and takes 17 days or there abouts
Maybe something for when you get a bigger yacht and more experience? Nothing is impossible and I bet the video will get Millions of views which will pay 10-15k English money back
Way to really blow the channel up 😂
This video got 750k views, New York to London would get 3-6 million
Dare to be great but stay safe 🤣💪
PS I’ll come aboard if I’m allowed when at London and help out loads on way back to New York and make videos I have a 4.5k Snapchat channel
And will get a plane back to London
Would be an amazing experience and would learn a lot
Always enjoy your travels, since you pass by many place I am familiar with. First when coming out of Beaufort NC, parent’s retirement home was right on the ICW, then passing the by the York river where I spent my childhood. My dad was a Marine biologist work for the state of Virginia and I spent a lot of time on the water. And block Island and I spent time at in Quonset Pt RI in the Navy. Take care on your next trip!
Super video. I made the trip several times on a 1973 53' Hatteras during the 1980's. I was in my 20s working as a delivery captain. Loran C, charts, radar and a watch. A couple over night ocean runs, but not alone. Good for you. Lots of great stories and memories. Seeing the places you were at like Coinjock, Alligator River, etc. you will never forget as I won't either. Keep it going.
Gus, thanks for sharing your experiences on the 50 Hatteras. I bought an old 1970 53 (hull # 4) back in 1998, in Toronto. My very first day on the boat was the beginning of an 11 day trip back to New Bern NC. Your video brought back so many memories of that trip thanks for sharing. PS, I still own the boat after 25 years, and you are spot on in saying "what a great boat".
I have a Hatteras 1968 50' Yachtfish. Love that boat. Can not part with her. There is just something special about the older Hatteras boats.
First time viewer I don't know if you've mentioned it before or not I was wondering how much money you've got tied up in that boat so far?
You should wear an inflatable life vest walking around your boat. Especially when on auto polit. Awesome videos. So, informative.
Hey Gus new to your channel, that was an epic journey thanks for bringing me along. I will go back in time and watch your videos and get caught up.
Guss You are doing a grate job!
You have figured out the biggest secret you truly do get what you think about keep dreaming big buddy! I have been watching you from the beginning and always look forward to your videos
If this 2 part video doesn’t deserve a sub, I don’t know what does. Fantastic story you told. (Subbed)
Yea,this is first time I've seen Gus, enjoyed this for almost 3 hrs,I give him a sub.
Good afternoon. I am a retired old fart, and spent some time at sea aboard several CG Cutters. It was an interesting experience traveling with you today. I live in the Clearwater area of Florida, and I live in Maine in 1981 - 1986. Thanks for the entertainment. Steve Ashley
Amazing video! Hugely enjoyed watching your journey. You gave a really nice charisma for presenting, and the video is just full of nice scenery, interesting "boaty stuff" and your fun, engaging commentary. So happy to have stumbled upon your channel.
It's all about the journey brother, never forget. Thanks for the adventure and if you ever need anyone to go just say the word. God Bless
Wow Gus, this was a awesome Journey that you videoed, which I'm grateful for you doing that and especially love your commentary because you are a character that has a lot of energy and character is great to have in my book, I love it!❤
Was there any particular reason why you decided to stay outside of the icw on most of this trip up north. Also looking forward to hearing how many gallons of fuel you used on this trip from Miami to Portland.
Ps, Long Island Sound, block island, Montauk Point and Connecticut River are my old stomping grounds. Congratulations on your successful Journey Back Home 🎉❤🍸🥂
Hey! I decided to go straight offshore mainly to speed up the trip and use as little fuel as possible. I ended up burning around 1100 Gallons total. Thanks for watching! 😃
@@InTooDeepBrowow, that's excellent mileage for such a large boat,. I wasn't expecting it to be so fuel efficient that's just so awesome
*Another excellent videos very well done.👌*
Great vid, what a feeling of accomplishment to get that best all the way up the East Coast! Maybe at some point you'll be able to relocate further south so you don't have to do these long rides. All the best to you with your work and your channel, always a welcome sight to see a new "In too Deep" video in my list :)
You’re awesome as well as your channel I really enjoyed this video.
Gus, congratulations on an amazing journey! Thanks for bringing us along!! AIS and an Epirb is a must for this type of trip. Curious to know fuel consumption and spend for this trip. Keep the great videos coming. 🍻
I'm not a boat guy but you are the most amazing young guy I have ever seen. You have knowledge and mechanical skills most people don't achieve until they are much older. You are a fearless adventurer.
I'm jealous of your journey 😕
Keep up the great content ✅
I sit here on my couch thinking about how amazing it would be to be cruising and partying on a 50' Hatteras but I never realized the amount of work you have put in to be able to do so!! You deserve every bit of enjoyment and I look up to you more than you know!!
So psyched you are back, in the space since you last posted I moved and bought a 40 foot aft cabin gonna be single handing all over the Great Lakes next year. This is one of my favorite channels because its always like...will he live?
About the exhaust, we had the same issue. Ours fell off completely and we had to shut down that engine. I found a mobile welder and actually had to carry that big heavy thing through a resort in Cape Coral Florida. Got yelled at by the locals for doing so but we did get it fixed in one afternoon fyi.
Love the videos. Great job.
That was a hell of a trip along the East coast! You did it, congratulations. It was amazing to follow you along this epic journey.
Ready to go back to Florida? Haha ;-)
Love your videos Gus! I’m a 55 year old guy that loves you RUclips channels like yours and VGG. Something about a everyday guy doing great stuff! Keep up the good work!
Excellent video series. Not sure I could do that trip alone at my age, but it looks like an adventure. I wonder if that broken tach cable would best be replace by a digital gauge? Did you have a video of when you first acquired that Hatteras, for how much? Also, it would be interesting to know how much you spent on your trip, gas, oil, transmission, parts, etc. Great job.
Thanks for taking us along, that was quite the trip.
Epic journey Gus. Thanks for keeping us with you.
I am so glad I found this channel. You are a stand-up guy. You remind me of myself so much that I feel like we are homies and know each other. 😂😂😂
Will be curious to see how much fuel you burnt/spent in the Hat going north vs. the trawler going south.
That's a good question I would like to know your average speed RPM and burn rate? BTW great to see you back
Me too
That's what I was wondering...
I ran most of the trip at 1200-1300RPM, 8-8.5kts through the water. I burned around 1100 Gallons. The whole fuel bill ended up being $4200. I am burning around 5GPH. Not quite as good as the Albin, but for being twice the weight, not bad! Thanks for watching!
Gus-aren’t you supposed to be running those engines at like 1800-1900 rpm for long term cruising? I thought these diesels are best run long term at 50-60% of full rpm. Love your videos.
Congrats, fun video, fun trip. Kinda nostalgic, years back, I went from Athens Greece to Novigrad Cro. on a 56ft yacht, 5 days/10h a day @ 22 knots - we were taking full tank of diesel each day 😂
Helluva boat you got there Gus 👍🏻
That’s rad that you offered assistances to the possible sinking boat.
Good video. Fun and informative. Adventure too.
I really like these type of videos!!! and watching people have a great time
Great. I watched it with pleasure. Thank you!
Thoroughly enjoy your channel and these travel episodes, as infrequent as they are, LOL. One suggestion…when you step outside the boat when under way, I really wish you would wear a CG-approved life jacket/pfd, with a PLB. We don’t want to lose you!
