- This is how to remove grout and re grout tiles the easy way. Through the use of a oscillating multi tool with a grout removal blade / tool we can easily remove grout without damaging tiles and making very little mess. The tiles used to look dirty all the time as the grout had become brittle and started to crumble and fall out. This is how to fix this. Hope you enjoy the video and as always like comment and subscribe for more videos. #DIY #howto #billshowto

Good video mate, but next time emphasis on not getting the blade to far into the back of the grout so you dont risk damaging any waterproofing would be another useful tip. Make sure to check out the thickness of the tile first and make sure you dont go beyond this. While the new grout might stop water getting to damaged WP, it could easily turn disastrous overtime and you won't know till floors, wall, start to exhibit water damage. Not against regrouting at all, just understand the substrate behind your tile and take necessary precautions
I thought the same thing. Didn't need to go nearly that deep.
Great video!
Very well explained. Yet another reason to have a multi tool. Don't know how we got along without one before.
You saved me a lot. Cancelled my $300 contractor (he had bad reviews too) and did it myself using your advise and came beautiful. Thx V.
M.
$300!! My quote was $1000!
It’s all in the wrist action! Great video and tips - thx for sharing!
The multi-tool is hands down one of the best tools to own. So damn useful for home projects.
You are officially my DIY hero LOL. I would never have thought to use the multi-tool. I've been procrastinating over this job for 2 years, dreading the thought of scraping the old grout. Thank you.
👍
Now if you wouldn't mind coming to mine next. I have tiled many places over the years and I have always struggled with the grouting. now I know why. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a lot Bill! There was no BS yammering about.....you got me zeroed in soooo quickly and efficiently! I'm smiling.
lovely clear instructions, really gives me confidence that I could do this. Gonna give it a go this weekend!
dude you are a fecking life saver . Spent two whole days trying to get out all of the old grout out .
Nice job !! Just about to start doing mine now and I now have a lot more confidence after watching your tricks and tips. Great job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
How did it turn out? Did you end up hiring someone?
Good video, in addition cover the floor with a suitable cloth to minimise clean-up, once grout is applied wait at least 10-15 minutes for initial set, then clean off excess grout in a diagonal motion with well wrung sponge and rinse often in your bucket of water, when dry polish off haze...
I'm removing last year's bad grout job the building management did in an apartment I'm renting. Giving my hands a break (I've got CTS), I came across your video. I'm so old school, I was doing it by hand with a razor blade--never thought about using a multi-tool. Glad I found this video. The job will go much quicker now. Thanks!
Thanks for this! Just did my first grout replacement job after watching :)
Hi, thanks for the great video. I see that you recommend not cutting too deep if the old grout is still good. That means the new layer of grout is a bit thin. Is there a recommended minimum depth for the new grout layer to be strong enough? Cheers!
Watched this to do it tomorrow. Great video dude. I feel like a pro already
Keep em going and you'll become a legend. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Glad you are enjoying the content
Excellent video that showed every aspect of doing a tile grout job. Thank you for showing the tools, techniques, and tricks. Nice job!!
Thank you very much for showing this step by step. Much appreciated
Thank you for the vid. I'm useless at DIY but found this very helpful. Will be buying a multi tool tomorrow. Cheers
About to do some cleanup at a holiday house tomorrow. Thanks for your information. Good quality video.
Thank you, this has really given me confidence to do this myself! 🙏🏽
Great video and method to clean the grout lines. I learned something new about using the multi-tool. Question: any types of grout or tile in which you would NOT use the multi-tool due to its aggressive abrasion which might damage the work? Thanks.
Thanks so much for this! Super helpful!
Thanks for a useful video. Was going to use an stone cutting disc on a small angle grinder but Im now on the lookout for a multi tool. Applying grout was also useful
Thanx a lot. Your demonstration is super easy to follow by a beginner
You are great! Your explanations are clear and your work looks very nice. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your video Bill. You have saved me so much money with this video. Thank you.
Perfect timing and answered a very pertinent question for me.
Very novice. First tile job in shower. Panicked when haze wouldn’t come off. Thought I’d scratched tiles. Used 50/50 vinegar water and massively pleased to clean the haze. Perhaps over exuberant cleaning started to pit new grout (post 48hr dry)
Made decision to remove and redo. Using manual method as I don’t own multi tool and grinder makes me too nervous for damage.
Question was do I need to remove ALL grout. Some areas I’m satisfied with. This video clearly suggests not.
Also some areas that have ground down literally popped into a crevasse suggesting my initial fill coverage was unsatisfactory.
I have some grout on the floor tiles I laid. So wish I went with dark grey and not beige.
I tried dye but didn't work as it removed most of it trying to clean it. Definitely going to do this job as have both floor and wall tiles to redo. So thankful for this. Now to buy a multi tool
You are AWESOME, Bill!
Just followed the procedure and the result is amazing, really happy with the result, thank you so much, really great tutorial
Brought a multi tool for this job and have used dozens of times since doing the regrouging, I can’t imagine how I have got on before.
Glad I could help 👍
Multi tool is the best, excellent investment...get the cordless...makes doing stuff around the house a dream.
Thanks for posting. It's really helpful.
Good man. Top job. Thanks for helping me gain wisdom.
Now I am really convinced YT is reading my thoughts. I need to remove grouts from some floortiles and have been thinking of how to do it. Just thinking.....have not googled anything yet. And this vid pops up in my feed😁Good vid btw as I have a multitool with a new set.
First video I've watched and you had me sold when I saw a ryobi tool! Off to Bunnings tomorrow. Thanks for the video.
Looks great! Once the grout has dried i also use a grout sealer to waterproof wet areas like showers, reason being the grout remains porous. In newer homes where the shower has been sealed correctly before tiling you can get away with not using it but i find homes 20 years plus in age the job does not last well without sealing the grout.
@Dawn Johnson try this dawn www.bunnings.com.au/spray-seal-300g-grout-and-tile-sealer_p6650152
That's the step I have a question on... sealing
Nice work Bill, that Ryobi multi tool is Handy as heck

I've had to do this on a floor and I still have nightmares over it! Great video. Thanks!
Multi tool makes it very easy. 👍
@@billshowto It sure does. The last one I did was pre-multi tool days. I used a dremel and carbide grout bits and it was a nightmare
Thanks. Very informative.
Awesome stuff mate Thanks a million

Hi Bill thanks for this video. Do you recommend adding a mould inhibitor to the new grout mix?
Awesome…thanks for sharing mate
Very helpful..... Thank you 👍👍👍👍
Excellent! Great instructional video and right to the important points.
May I ask - To remove grout do I need a carbide or diamond tipped blade?

Brilliant video mate, thanks :)
Well done Sir!
Outstanding video. Thank you for the wisdom.

Mate! Thanks for the tips! I’ve been maddened by some rooky tiler, who has completely fucked the vision for my mosaic floor! At least with this I can now undo some of his crap!
👍👍
Will give this a go based on your excellent video tutorial. I have seen ready made tile grout. Is either better for this job. Many thanks
Brilliant nearly 1,000,000 views congratulations

Thank you, really enjoyed the tips. Job well done. Can't wait to get started on my kitchen tiles. Cheers
Wow clearly you have a steady hand. I guess I will have to do the manual tool
Mate. What a brilliant video thanks a lot
You’re welcome 👍
Thanks Bill. 👍
awsome video!! thanks for the advice !!
Thank you for sharing.
Great video mate thank you
This was good. I don’t have that tool but it’s a small area I need to do, so I can use a Stanley knife. I was going to use filler from a tube, like a waterproof mastic type one. I find them really messy though. So I think I might try regular grout like in the video better. Thank you Bill
Thanks for the great little tips
👍
Great video! What about using epoxy grout? And is it dangerous to damage the water proofing with the multi tool?
Adds two more seconds to remove all the old grout just as you demoed so the new grout will have a more complete bond that’s less prone to cracks and thus mold. Go the extra minor effort for a more durable finish.
It will take many extra blades and a helluva lot longer than two seconds to remove all the old grout. But yeah, you’ll get a better job.
even in the corners???
Excellent mate. Thank s a lot
Good video -- dentisty for your tiled walls! That CFL? lightbulb is playing havoc with your video refresh rate.
Great video…how do you avoid affecting the water proofing?
