Small thing I think you forgot - bee (from the park) is very much foreshadowed to be the new medicine cat,, I’m like 100% sure wasp will come back with bee in star. This also means that in my mind it literally HAS to be mothwing or frostpaw. It has to be a medicine cat because theres no way riverclan is gonna have 3 of them. Tbh though I kind of like the idea of Frostpaw being leader more, just because I want someone younger and more “hippie” lmao. But I would be happy as long as its either of the medicine cats !
I thought it’d be wasp but bee is also a good candidate, I thought it was interesting that she basically said she had a vision of living in RiverClan in the future and nobody’s brought it up. Maybe they’re the full leader/deputy package?
I would be sad if mothwing was leader. All she wants is to be a medicine cat and to heal her clan mates. If she’s leader she will be too busy to do medicine duties :( I see no reason why icestar couldn’t happen, cats didn’t respect squirrelflight as acting leader but she still became squirrelstar.

I really want the new leader to be a non-personality-having cat. Like Lizardtail or Brackenpelt. Just a complete nobody. I think it'd be funny. On a more serious note, I am not super thrilled on Mothwing potentially becoming leader. Not due to anything that's wrong with Mothwing (she is a perfectly valid candidate), but I can't help but roll my eyes when the newer books take the focus away from new characters to fall back on old established characters. This arc is a great opportunity to revitalize RiverClan, I am begging the Erins to not place their focus on the ONLY cat in RiverClan who had any history or personality prior to the arc. I think the *idea* of Frostpaw, who is mentored and ordained by the founder of her clan and her warrior ancestors becoming leader is so fun and interesting. It would probably be miserable for her, though. She's basically a baby. Of course, this could all be setup for Frostpaw being RiverClan's new medicine cat, and how she will reignite RiverClan's old cultural practices. She would be in a position of power still, but in a position that's much more spiritual and nurturing, which I believe aligns much better with the themes of the story. I think I would enjoy Mothstar a lot more if she for sure did not receive any nine lives. Like a foil to how Splashtail refuses nine lives, except based on Mothwing's personal beliefs and not... For nonsensical reasons like Splashtail. Lol.
I like the idea of Mothstar without nine lives. She's older than Squirrelstar, so her not getting nine lives would make her leadership comparatively short by default - so Mothstar gets to rebuild RiverClan, but there would be room for newer characters to step in soon, and the deputy could be build up over the next few books to have more of a character before becoming leader.
I would like Gorseclaw to be RiverClan's leader because his brother Harelight was killed by Splashtail and would be amazing if he got his revenge with Splashtail. I think the only reason he was on Splashtail's team was bc of his brother. I feel Gorseclaw and Harelight have similar interests with the old ways of Riverclan with Starclan

The only other option I have for leader is Bee, from the park. (Or maybe Waffle. WAFFLESTAR!) I forget where I heard it from, but the idea of Bee being the leader makes some sense due to his weird dream about walking on a frozen river with strange cats watching him, and how he'd be a good, totally out there option for Frostpaw.
I feel like Mothwing being made leader is also a bad choice. Mothwing is old, she's older then Squirrelflight, and only a couple of moons younger the Brambleclaw. She's older then Mistyfoot was when *she* was made leader. Warriors needs more young leaders, all the current leaders are either elder aged or nearly elder aged (I think elder aged is 10-16 years old btw). (Leafstar is at least 11 years old (She's been leading for 10 years and was at least adult aged when Firestar met her, so she was likely more then 1 year old), Squirrelstar is 10 years old, Harestar is between 8 and 9 years old, as he's implied to a similar age to Jayfeather, who's currently 8.5 years old. Tigerstar is also nearly 8 years old. Adding Mothwing to this would give us another leader of 11 years old. ) On top of this, it's also made extremely obvious that Frostpaw despises being a med cat in both Shadow and Thunder, it came to a point where the ending note of her deciding to become a med cat again sounded straight up depressing. I see no future in which she willingly stays a med cat if she had a choice, aka, once she had covinced RiverClan that Splashtail is not their rightful leader. It seems like a poor decision to me to undo all that and force her to replace Mothwing as a med cat. On top of this, Mothwing also despises being a leader, there's a whole point made about this when she was a temporary leader. She hated it. And not to mantion, Bee had a dream about a frozen river carrying him as well as strange cats. Which to me seems to imply that whoever is in charce next has to do something with frozen water. Thus either Frostpaw or Icewing. (Who while yes, has been demoted from the leader position, she was never made an official leader or even deputy. It was forced upon her by Tigerstar. Icewing also by far shows the most interest and competence when it comes to being leader. She's also on the older side, but not quite as old as Mothwing is.). To add to this, Bee might return in Star, he seemed to have an interest in clan life, but stayed behind for some reason. Him having this dream could very well imply he may decide to join the clans later on.
I wish they'd just choose Lionblaze to do it for absolutely no logical reason. I just want that Moonkitti complete meltdown. It's absolutely going to he Mothstar though, they're not going to pass up the chance to put another Tigerclaw descendant into power.
This would actually be perfect for an arc about StarClan. I'd like to see Mothwing's beliefs shake a little after her leader ceremony or maybe after she loses a life. Ideally, she might see StarClan in a different way than the other cats still, maybe more truthful to the way they have been presented lately. Most of all, I just want her to not be totally stoic and static as a character now that's she one of the older cats. cry Mothstar please

I'm still hoping for Breezeheart or Icewing to become leaders they are part of the Riverclan's true leader theory I made on deviantart for Breezeheart I think Starclan is gonna recognize Breezeheart as Riverclan's true leader and challenge Splashtail for leadership and if not Breezeheart then Icewing cause if the Erin's keeps the idea of the dark forest trainees becoming leader kind of like how Brambleclaw was a dark forest trainee and he became leader of Thunderclan before deciding to retire as a elder Tigerheartstar how he became leader of Shadowclan after being resurrected by Starclan Crookedstar who became leader after deciding to stop training in the dark forest and Harestar who Onestar choose Harestar as deputy to send a message that Dark forest cats could be trusted so it could be the same for Icewing and also Starclan could recognize Icewings leadership when she was temporarily leader of Riverclan even if Breezeheart or Icewing doesn't become leaders then I'm fine with any Riverclan cat to become leader of Riverclan

I agree that it's gotta be Mothwing, but I also LOVE the theory I saw once that Frostpaw was originally destined to become leader one day, but Mistystar and Reedwhisker both died before she was ready and now her destiny is up in the air, and that's what Thunder's "she was never meant to be a medicine cat" line meant

I feel that making Mothwing leader would kind of hurt her character development of “finding her calling as a medicine cat.” I feel that Icewing would be a much more fitting leader considering how much she’s inserted herself in a leadership position (not forcefully). Frostpaw has also yet to receive her full medicine cat name and it would definitely be awkward if they made Mothwing leader.

Nightheart certainly hasn’t pressured her into choosing a leader, and I think it’s him that she told about knowing who to choose. (She might’ve mentioned it to Mothwing or the medicine cat meeting but I don’t really remember her doing that)

If he returns, i'm guessing he"ll become the med cat apprentice bc, well, Frostpaw doesn't like being a med cat and go depressed just thinking about giving up being a warrior. I see no future in which she stays a med cat unless she has to. I think ti's likely that if Bee returns, he'll take on being Mothwing's apprentice instead of Frostpaw. Also, Bee's last vision was about how an unknown group of cats (likely RiverClan) was being carried by a frozen river. Thus imo, it's alluding to either Icewing or Frostpaw beicoming their leader.

The only other viable theory is that the new leader will be...well...Bee. Bee is a kittypet that Frostpaw and Nightheart met at the park; he is a grown cat who comforts and offers kindness to Frostpaw when she is struggling. This section is taken directly from the wiki: 'Nightheart asks if he's ever received strange dreams before, and Bee explains how he's been dreaming of walking on a frozen river with strange cats watching him.' Bee also greatly resembles Riverstar, both being grey/silver and having green eyes. The strange dream that Bee speaks of was never directly led to an answer so some fans have begun to speculate on what this means for Bee. Nonetheless, I really love the Mothstar theory and it could make sense; ultimately I am unsure of it and my bets are on Bee as an answer.

The thing is though, Bee definitly showed more interest in being a med cat, not a leader. And him walking on top of a frozen river makes me think the next leader will have a name that has something to do with cold weather. I feel that if Bee returns (which is possible), he would take the role Frostpaw doesn't want: being a med cat. This would leave room for Frostpaw to become a warrior again, and possibly even a leader. (bc it tends to frost when rivers are frozen). If not a leader, Icewing would be the next leader (again, frozen rivers are made of ice). Icewing is by far the most skilled cat in leadership of RiverClan. Also, the only reason she stepped down was bc Tigerstar wasn't leading anymore, and she didn't want to take the place of a leader as long as she wasn't sure it was rightfully hers. Not to mention, her staying temp leader would draw eyebrows as she was appointed by Tigerstar, not by RiverClan. I don't think this means that she's written out of the possibility of being a real leader.
@@flamestormthecat2833 Honestly I can see your point. Bee replacing Frostpaw as medicine cat could potentially work, but Frostpaw becoming leader really doesn't click for me. If anything it feels wrong almost? She's still extremely young, a kid in a sense still and her life hasn't been exactly smooth sailing. Becoming leader takes a large amount of responsibility and experience; and Frostpaw isn't even an adult yet. The whole frozen river theory could very well indicate that, it just feels a little wrong to me personally. Icewing being leader would be much more suiting but the narrative did kinda throw her out so...I'm not sure. I jumped to the conclusion with Bee as he showed her kindness and had strange dreams of a frozen river - which could very well indicate a connection to StarClan either as a future medicine cat or leader. I honestly wouldn't mind the new leader being Icewing either but I have a hard disagree on Frostpaw as it feels wrong to put such a weight on well....a kid. (I don't know Frostpaw's age but she 100% reads to me as a very young teenager in a sense, much younger than Sunbeam and Nightheart.) But that's just my opinion really!
I don't hate Mothwing by any means but I do NOT want Mothstar. Granted, a healer turned leader would be fun in concept, but you have to remember that in that case there would have been FIVE Tigerstar related cats in that position just off the top of my head, not only in ThunderClan, three of which are still alive whether in power or not. If she is Mothstar, it is not the end of the world, but my hope is for Icestar or Duskstar (leaning to Icestar tbh). TLDR: I like Mothwing but don't want her as leader.
Quickly, we need another Tiger clone to move to Skyclan and Windclan and become deputies so every leadership position will eventually be descendants of Tigerstar I
Mothwing SHOULD not be leader, it’s against her character. Why would a medicine cat who just started believing in StarClan but distrusts them be leader? She has no faith in them. It also would be butchering her character, she wanted to be a medicine cat, Mothwing went to be Mudfur’s apprentice because she KNEW the warrior life would suit her.
This, she hated being temporary leader, all she ever wanted was to be a healer without any Starclan involvement, she doesn’t like communicating with them and being leader she will have to.
my best case scenario that will definitely never happen is frostpaw rejecting the traditional leader-deputy system altogether and riverclan establishing a democracy with terms and elections
like how Splashtail wanted to "reject StarClan" but actually good. I mean, even though he's a murderer, he has a point, StarClan made a lot of stupid mistakes

I heavily doubt this will happen, but a cool thought is that Frostpaw goes insane from not trusting people, picks herself, refuses to make anyone a deputy because she’s scared they’ll betray her, and basically put Riverclan in an even worse situation with a manic young cat on the throne lol

I think if Frostpaw were to become leader she wouldn’t pick herself. Riverstar himself would pick her. And I do think there is is build up to this personally. Riverstar has selected her out and shown her the principles RiverClan was founded upon. Why would he go to all this effort for a cat destined to live a regular life? Of course she could be a medicine cat, but I think the best position for someone to reintroduce the meditation and peace culture would be the leader themselves rather than the healer. I think Frostpaw in herself is misguided in her belief that she’s meant to be a medicine cat apprentice. In my mind I don’t understand why the authors would make her like being a warrior apprentice and be good at it only to put her back in the medicine role. Edit: Also for the StarClan connection if Frostpaw does become leader: Bee. I fully expect him to turn up again. Why would they mention his visions if they were not important.
I agree. The scene of Riverstar appearing to Frostpaw (and Puddleshine) during Splashtail’s “leadership ceremony” also reads as major foreshadowing to me. Like, if the purpose of that scene was just for Frostpaw to prove to Puddleshine that Splashtail is evil, then Splashtail talking about all his evil plans aloud and mocking StarClan to Podlight would have been more than enough to convince Puddleshine of that. But the writers went out of their way to have Riverstar appear and bow his head to Frostpaw during that “ceremony” as if saying “this leadership ceremony isn’t meant for him, it’s meant for *you.*”
I agree, Frostpaw literally says something to Bee like "make sure you pay attention to your dreams, those might be important." I'm expecting Bee is back at the park during Wind and having visions about the state of RiverClan, when Wasps gets back to the park and tells everyone what's happened they'll travel together and Bee will join RC as the medicine cat

Mothwing stepped down as leader though? If stepping down disqualifies Duskfur and Icewing, stepping down should disqualify Mothwing?? Honestly making her leader is straight up butchering her character and I hate this idea. Mothwing wanted nothing more than to be a medicine cat, we had a entire book about how she’s supposed to be a medicine cat, she didn’t like being temporary leader being desperate to find a replacement and they seem to be pointing to Splashtail’s lack of belief being a problem so why the heck would the solution be someone who also doesn’t like Starclan?? Also Frostpaw isn’t exactly the most trained in the healing side, which is a problem. She doesn’t want to be leader, she doesn’t like Starclan. Butchering her character for the sake of fan service seems so stupid.
Moth was never appointed leader to step down, like they were. She only assumed a commanding position as the medicine cat by default. Additionally, the books have reinforced in the last two that frost is in fact trained as a healer, despite us not seeing much training happening.

@@Moonkitti Brightheart was trained in healing too but she didn't stay a med cat afterwards. Just because Frostpaw is good at medicine doesn't mean that she's stuck to that position.
I don't think Icewing is disqualified. Lionblaze was because he realized leadership position was not for him, and it was confirmed when Squilf picked up Ivypool as her deputy and he was reassured. So if we take Lionblaze situation as an exemple, Duskfur is disqualified because she was visibly relieved to not have to lead the clan anymore. But for Icewing, it wasn't really the case. I'd even say, she was shown to perform rathee well considering her situation (Tigerstar being the one to put her in charge). I would hate for both Frostpaw and Mothwing to be leaders. Not that I wouldn't like them as leaders. But Mothwing is happy being a medecine cat and explicitly said she doesn't want to be a leader. And Frostpaw... Well, you explained it.
I feel like Mothstar as a concept would be a major "in your face!" @ Tigerclawstar and Hawkfrost, and I'm here for it. (But I also think "Beestar" as a possibility has some basis too, because of the dream about walking on the frozen river -- I know other comments have been like "Oh, Bee's gonna be the new med cat and it'll be Froststar!" but I feel like it makes more sense in terms of "Bee is a leader *supported by* the med cat, Frostpaw". Because.... Bee is the one being *supported by* the frozen river that's being walked on (other random thought = maybe Icewing as deputy to Beestar lol) in the vision.)
When they met the park cats I was really hoping one would come back and end up as leader because of their connection to Riverstar's history (Rook, specifically). But we're far beyond that point now :(
Not necessarily. Wasp left back for the cats and dont forget Bee had a very strange dream. He saw Riverclan cats and ice and stuff? I dont remember the exact passage, but I do remember believing fiercely he would come back in a position of power for RC. Wasp may still come back with Rook or Bee as options. I cant see Mothwing or Frostpaw fitting the role tbh and my strongest contender within RC is Icewing despite her having and giving it up. We shall see in November
I disagree with the point you made about how Frostpaw only had 4 cats die who are important to her, and therefore can’t become leader (I won’t address the other points because they are mostly valid). The team could easily make Riverstar or Leopardstar give her a life, or possibly Willowshine, or maybe even Mudfur. And in Onestar’s Confession and Crookedstar’s Promise the team really had to start coming up with random stuff to give lives. Gorsestar gave Onestar a life, and a bunch of cats Crookedstar never knew gave him lives. So assuming Jayclaw, Harelight, Mistystar, Reedwhisker, Riverstar, Willowshine, Leopardstar and Mudfur give Frostpaw lives, then they would only need one more cat to give a life. They could have Leafpool, Nightstar, or maybe a cat who dies in Star give Frostpaw a life. If they did make Frostpaw become Froststar, then I don’t think the amount of cats who died in her lifetime would be a problem.
Am i the only one who thought it was foreshading when Frostpaw got a vision of a FROSTED feather to decide who should be leader? My theory is that Frostpaw was going to be leader after Reedstar, but shit got fucked up along the way
I think leader Mothwing only works narratively if she is presented as a moral alternative of a leader who choses not to take 9 lives. She wouldnt want them, she wouldn't accept them if they stay true to her character at all.
I don’t believe for a second it’ll be Mothwing. Or Frostpaw. Mothwing herself literally said “I don’t want to be leader. I am a medicine cat and I WANT to be a med cat.”
I hate the idea of Mothstar, but I can definitely see it happening, especially given some of the other questionable choices this writing team has made.
My favorite theory that I made up for why Tigerstar got 9 lives is StarClan misinterpreting a prophecy about a Tigerstar restoring ShadowClan that was actually meant for Tigerstar2.

I'm currently on Team Froststar, mostly for the kind of arbitrary reasoning of "we haven't learned her warrior name yet which to me implies they're making extra sure it doesn't get leaked", "we haven't seen a POV character ascend to leader in the same series since Firestar", and "it would be funny if she goes straight from Frostpaw to Froststar." I do think the stuff about Mothwing never reuniting with her loved ones in Starclan being foreshadowing is a really compelling argument for her becoming Mothstar though - that'd be a good setup/payoff. That said I do also like that she has kind of a unique relationship with Starclan and I don't want her atheism to be ""fixed"". Also I am so onboard with Berryheart betraying Splashtail and trying to become leader. I kind of want to see what happens when an unqualified/evil cat gets rejected by starclan.
I feel like Mothstar is unlikely due to her relationship with StarClan and position as a medicine cat. I doubt they'd have a medicine cat ascend to leader, but it's at least possible (I think Icestar is most likely).

I think it’s gonna be Wasp. He seems very underutilized at this point, and he’s already shown that he’d do anything to see the RiverClan of his dreams. The idea also goes well with forming a new RiverClan that’s more like Riverstar’s, since Wasp has no experience in the current RiverClan (so his mind has also not been warped by all their recent trauma) but knows more than most actual RiverClan cats about Riverstar’s ways. He’s a clean slate and, if this phrase ever had any legitimacy, not an “obvious choice”. I am not convinced he actually left for good, and even if he intended to I think it’s very possible the super edition quest will have something to do with fetching him
I also disagree that Icewing can't be the new leader just because she held a leadership position a little earlier. If anything, that makes her a good candidate because she's already tested the waters and gained the trust of her clanmates

Curlfeather tried to use her daughter's connection to Starclan to plant a false omen to make her leader. Mothwing's brother admitted his plan to do the same thing. Do they ever bond over this?
It would be wild if more park cats were to show up after hearing the state of things from wasp. Those cats love Riverclan, even if they never properly met the clans, I’d imagine at least 1 or 2 would show up to try and help Frostpaw. It’s be even wilder if one of them got picked
I know this is a month old. But I think I have a good theory on who could be the next leader of RiverClan. Now hear me out! It's not Icewing, it's not Mothwing or Bee and it's not Frostpaw. The poor state of RiverClan leads me to one possible candidate who already has proven themselves worthy as a leader in Greystripe's Vow. Monkeystar, and her collective clan of stray Kittypets known as WarriorClan. Their territory also just so happens to be on RiverClan territory, so their familiarity to the river also adds into the idea of Monkeystar leading WarriorClan to the lake with the help of Frostpaw, Nightheart and Sunbeam. I know everyone's theories about Frostpaw becoming leader, due to Bee's dreams about walking on a frozen river (although it is subjective and could just mean he'll join RiverClan)..but honestly I rather Frostpaw not be placed with a higher mantle of power. She's been fundamentally stressed from the get go. And even though she's not technically a child anymore, she's far too young to take on such a responsibility and well being in the constant spotlight. She needs a break. We also have to take into account that some RiverClan cats will die in the battle that will predictably happen. Splashtail specifically, and perhaps Podlight. RiverClan's members are TINY in comparison to the other clans, and whilst kits are good; and recently RiverClan greeted three new more. They take time to grow up in the books, and RiverClan really needs grown cats to join their ranks. This is why I genuinely believe that WarriorClan will join RiverClan. WarriorClan had many cats, (some named and unnamed.) Monkeystar for RiverClan 2024. 😼
I've kinda been thinking, what if its Wasp? He's been so adamant about going to Riverclan, so maybe its his destiny. Hes the only cat I can genuinely see being a leader. Mothwing, maybe, but I think she would refuse.
Does anybody remeber that weird foggy dream that frostpaw got in book two or one? It was the one telling her to choose a least likely cat. Do you think that was Curlfeather trying to connect with her just so she could be sure frostpaw didn’t choose splashtail?

a favorite subsection of Moonkitti videos for me has to be the ones with a self-contained style for the character designs (Deputy Chance, the Bramble/Ashfur duology, kinda the River video, etc). Moon really gets to flex her character design skills and never disappoints
I don't like the idea of Froststar or Mothstar Mothstar would be worse though imo i gotta re-read the series though, cause at the moment my only other guess would be on of the warriors who left with Mothwing
I think you shouldn't completely eliminate Gorseclaw due to his brother being killed by Splashtail. One of my favorite characters was Harelight and it's very sad he was killed off. I think he was the one of the few characters Splashtail convinced to him become leader. Harelight was his deputy. I think Gorseclaw was on Splashtail's side bc of his brother. After Harelight was killed I think Gorseclaw will get his revenge with Splashtail and become the new leader of Riverclan. I would love to see Gorseclaw as leader because I feel him and his brother believed in the old ways of Riverclan and will stay true to Starclan.
I think Mothwing becoming leader would be great. I’d be interested to see what Brambleclaw would think of that since he killed Hawkfrost who wanted that position.
I feel that if it HAS to be a current RiverClan cat, then Mothwing definitely. But it would make sense for it to be like, a cat from the park. However, with all the "RiverClan needs to make their own choice of whos leader", I feel like it would have to be a RiverClan cat. So yeah, Mothwing. I would not want Frostpaw to be leader... just cause like. Let her rest omg.
I personally find the argument of Mothwing not communicating with StarClan disqualifies her as being leader a kind of weak one. It's hard to recognize because a lot of protagonist plot relevance, but the world building of Warriors itself states that it's very rare for a cat who is not a medicine cat or leader to ever hear from StarClan before they become leader. Meaning, probably 90% of the leaders never communicated with StarClan before becoming leader as well. Not to mention that Mothwing does hold some amount of belief in them after Omen of the Stars. To me, that rules that argument out, but I also am open to seeing other perspectives on this point too
I’ve been team Mothstar since the very first book, it’s the only thing that makes sense for why StarClan was talking about it being a new era for the clan. Can someone who doesn’t fully believe in StarClan even receive lives from them?
Honestly i don't like MothWing becoming MothStar, mainly because it would kind of go agienst her entire character and she herself hated being the temp leader, she hated being the temp leader so much she pushed it on a mentally unwell apprentice who was barely 6 moons old. Not only that i just don't want this series and it's writers to put all of TigerStar the first's decendents in seats of power, it's getting to be a bit too much at this point T.T
There was one cat in the park that said they had dreams of Starclan. Bee was it? I think that would be cool. I think if Froststar DID happen, the other Riverclan cats and/Starclan would elect her.
I had an idea while reading Wind that star clan will stop giving clan leaders 9 lives. This would allow for frequent changes of leadership without having to wait for cats to zoom through 9 lives. It would also create an even playing field for all cats to aspire to be leader without feeling they need a close relationship with star clan to be accepted. I think this would also have the clans make decisions without starclans guidance other than the medicine cats connection as well as putting extra emphasis on how medicine cats are the core link to star clan. Riverclan will start this and maybe squirrelstar would come forward to announce she didn't get 9 lives but she's still the best cat for the job to lead thunderclan with or without star clans blessing of 9 lives. This could also start a chain of events to have tigerstar to stepdown or have his clan to elect a new leader. This could also happen in the other clans, I think leafstar would step down but harestar would be elected to stay as leader.

On a more serious note, I am not super thrilled on Mothwing potentially becoming leader. Not due to anything that's wrong with Mothwing (she is a perfectly valid candidate), but I can't help but roll my eyes when the newer books take the focus away from new characters to fall back on old established characters. This arc is a great opportunity to revitalize RiverClan, I am begging the Erins to not place their focus on the ONLY cat in RiverClan who had any history or personality prior to the arc.
I think the *idea* of Frostpaw, who is mentored and ordained by the founder of her clan and her warrior ancestors becoming leader is so fun and interesting. It would probably be miserable for her, though. She's basically a baby.
Of course, this could all be setup for Frostpaw being RiverClan's new medicine cat, and how she will reignite RiverClan's old cultural practices. She would be in a position of power still, but in a position that's much more spiritual and nurturing, which I believe aligns much better with the themes of the story.
I think I would enjoy Mothstar a lot more if she for sure did not receive any nine lives. Like a foil to how Splashtail refuses nine lives, except based on Mothwing's personal beliefs and not... For nonsensical reasons like Splashtail. Lol.
Alternatively, I want Wasp to come back with an updated resume. He has a letter of recommendation from RiverStar himself. Waspstar, Waspstar!
I like the idea of Mothstar without nine lives. She's older than Squirrelstar, so her not getting nine lives would make her leadership comparatively short by default - so Mothstar gets to rebuild RiverClan, but there would be room for newer characters to step in soon, and the deputy could be build up over the next few books to have more of a character before becoming leader.
I would like Gorseclaw to be RiverClan's leader because his brother Harelight was killed by Splashtail and would be amazing if he got his revenge with Splashtail. I think the only reason he was on Splashtail's team was bc of his brother. I feel Gorseclaw and Harelight have similar interests with the old ways of Riverclan with Starclan

I feel like Mothwing being made leader is also a bad choice. Mothwing is old, she's older then Squirrelflight, and only a couple of moons younger the Brambleclaw. She's older then Mistyfoot was when *she* was made leader. Warriors needs more young leaders, all the current leaders are either elder aged or nearly elder aged (I think elder aged is 10-16 years old btw).
(Leafstar is at least 11 years old (She's been leading for 10 years and was at least adult aged when Firestar met her, so she was likely more then 1 year old), Squirrelstar is 10 years old, Harestar is between 8 and 9 years old, as he's implied to a similar age to Jayfeather, who's currently 8.5 years old. Tigerstar is also nearly 8 years old. Adding Mothwing to this would give us another leader of 11 years old. )
On top of this, it's also made extremely obvious that Frostpaw despises being a med cat in both Shadow and Thunder, it came to a point where the ending note of her deciding to become a med cat again sounded straight up depressing. I see no future in which she willingly stays a med cat if she had a choice, aka, once she had covinced RiverClan that Splashtail is not their rightful leader. It seems like a poor decision to me to undo all that and force her to replace Mothwing as a med cat.
On top of this, Mothwing also despises being a leader, there's a whole point made about this when she was a temporary leader. She hated it.
And not to mantion, Bee had a dream about a frozen river carrying him as well as strange cats. Which to me seems to imply that whoever is in charce next has to do something with frozen water. Thus either Frostpaw or Icewing. (Who while yes, has been demoted from the leader position, she was never made an official leader or even deputy. It was forced upon her by Tigerstar. Icewing also by far shows the most interest and competence when it comes to being leader. She's also on the older side, but not quite as old as Mothwing is.). To add to this, Bee might return in Star, he seemed to have an interest in clan life, but stayed behind for some reason. Him having this dream could very well imply he may decide to join the clans later on.
Personally I want Icewing to become leader. I’ve really come to like her over this arc

I'm still hoping for Breezeheart or Icewing to become leaders they are part of the Riverclan's true leader theory I made on deviantart for Breezeheart I think Starclan is gonna recognize Breezeheart as Riverclan's true leader and challenge Splashtail for leadership and if not Breezeheart then Icewing cause if the Erin's keeps the idea of the dark forest trainees becoming leader kind of like how Brambleclaw was a dark forest trainee and he became leader of Thunderclan before deciding to retire as a elder Tigerheartstar how he became leader of Shadowclan after being resurrected by Starclan Crookedstar who became leader after deciding to stop training in the dark forest and Harestar who Onestar choose Harestar as deputy to send a message that Dark forest cats could be trusted so it could be the same for Icewing and also Starclan could recognize Icewings leadership when she was temporarily leader of Riverclan even if Breezeheart or Icewing doesn't become leaders then I'm fine with any Riverclan cat to become leader of Riverclan

I feel that making Mothwing leader would kind of hurt her character development of “finding her calling as a medicine cat.” I feel that Icewing would be a much more fitting leader considering how much she’s inserted herself in a leadership position (not forcefully). Frostpaw has also yet to receive her full medicine cat name and it would definitely be awkward if they made Mothwing leader.

Nightheart certainly hasn’t pressured her into choosing a leader, and I think it’s him that she told about knowing who to choose. (She might’ve mentioned it to Mothwing or the medicine cat meeting but I don’t really remember her doing that)

Bee is a kittypet that Frostpaw and Nightheart met at the park; he is a grown cat who comforts and offers kindness to Frostpaw when she is struggling.

Bee also greatly resembles Riverstar, both being grey/silver and having green eyes. The strange dream that Bee speaks of was never directly led to an answer so some fans have begun to speculate on what this means for Bee. Nonetheless, I really love the Mothstar theory and it could make sense; ultimately I am unsure of it and my bets are on Bee as an answer.

The thing is though, Bee definitly showed more interest in being a med cat, not a leader. And him walking on top of a frozen river makes me think the next leader will have a name that has something to do with cold weather.
I feel that if Bee returns (which is possible), he would take the role Frostpaw doesn't want: being a med cat. This would leave room for Frostpaw to become a warrior again, and possibly even a leader. (bc it tends to frost when rivers are frozen). If not a leader, Icewing would be the next leader (again, frozen rivers are made of ice). Icewing is by far the most skilled cat in leadership of RiverClan. Also, the only reason she stepped down was bc Tigerstar wasn't leading anymore, and she didn't want to take the place of a leader as long as she wasn't sure it was rightfully hers. Not to mention, her staying temp leader would draw eyebrows as she was appointed by Tigerstar, not by RiverClan. I don't think this means that she's written out of the possibility of being a real leader.

If anything it feels wrong almost? She's still extremely young, a kid in a sense still and her life hasn't been exactly smooth sailing. Becoming leader takes a large amount of responsibility and experience; and Frostpaw isn't even an adult yet.
The whole frozen river theory could very well indicate that, it just feels a little wrong to me personally. Icewing being leader would be much more suiting but the narrative did kinda throw her out so...I'm not sure. I jumped to the conclusion with Bee as he showed her kindness and had strange dreams of a frozen river - which could very well indicate a connection to StarClan either as a future medicine cat or leader. I honestly wouldn't mind the new leader being Icewing either but I have a hard disagree on Frostpaw as it feels wrong to put such a weight on well....a kid. (I don't know Frostpaw's age but she 100% reads to me as a very young teenager in a sense, much younger than Sunbeam and Nightheart.) But that's just my opinion really!
I don't hate Mothwing by any means but I do NOT want Mothstar. Granted, a healer turned leader would be fun in concept, but you have to remember that in that case there would have been FIVE Tigerstar related cats in that position just off the top of my head, not only in ThunderClan, three of which are still alive whether in power or not. If she is Mothstar, it is not the end of the world, but my hope is for Icestar or Duskstar (leaning to Icestar tbh).
TLDR: I like Mothwing but don't want her as leader.
Quickly, we need another Tiger clone to move to Skyclan and Windclan and become deputies so every leadership position will eventually be descendants of Tigerstar I

I heavily doubt this will happen, but a cool thought is that Frostpaw goes insane from not trusting people, picks herself, refuses to make anyone a deputy because she’s scared they’ll betray her, and basically put Riverclan in an even worse situation with a manic young cat on the throne lol

This would make more sense as a possibility at the beginning of this arc, but with where Frostpaw is now, it just wouldn't make sense with ber character development

I think if Frostpaw were to become leader she wouldn’t pick herself. Riverstar himself would pick her. And I do think there is is build up to this personally. Riverstar has selected her out and shown her the principles RiverClan was founded upon. Why would he go to all this effort for a cat destined to live a regular life? Of course she could be a medicine cat, but I think the best position for someone to reintroduce the meditation and peace culture would be the leader themselves rather than the healer. I think Frostpaw in herself is misguided in her belief that she’s meant to be a medicine cat apprentice. In my mind I don’t understand why the authors would make her like being a warrior apprentice and be good at it only to put her back in the medicine role.
Edit: Also for the StarClan connection if Frostpaw does become leader: Bee. I fully expect him to turn up again. Why would they mention his visions if they were not important.
I agree. The scene of Riverstar appearing to Frostpaw (and Puddleshine) during Splashtail’s “leadership ceremony” also reads as major foreshadowing to me. Like, if the purpose of that scene was just for Frostpaw to prove to Puddleshine that Splashtail is evil, then Splashtail talking about all his evil plans aloud and mocking StarClan to Podlight would have been more than enough to convince Puddleshine of that. But the writers went out of their way to have Riverstar appear and bow his head to Frostpaw during that “ceremony” as if saying “this leadership ceremony isn’t meant for him, it’s meant for *you.*”
I agree, Frostpaw literally says something to Bee like "make sure you pay attention to your dreams, those might be important." I'm expecting Bee is back at the park during Wind and having visions about the state of RiverClan, when Wasps gets back to the park and tells everyone what's happened they'll travel together and Bee will join RC as the medicine cat

Mothwing stepped down as leader though? If stepping down disqualifies Duskfur and Icewing, stepping down should disqualify Mothwing?? Honestly making her leader is straight up butchering her character and I hate this idea.
Mothwing wanted nothing more than to be a medicine cat, we had a entire book about how she’s supposed to be a medicine cat, she didn’t like being temporary leader being desperate to find a replacement and they seem to be pointing to Splashtail’s lack of belief being a problem so why the heck would the solution be someone who also doesn’t like Starclan??
Also Frostpaw isn’t exactly the most trained in the healing side, which is a problem.
She doesn’t want to be leader, she doesn’t like Starclan. Butchering her character for the sake of fan service seems so stupid.
Moth was never appointed leader to step down, like they were. She only assumed a commanding position as the medicine cat by default. Additionally, the books have reinforced in the last two that frost is in fact trained as a healer, despite us not seeing much training happening.

It seems like it would be completely changing her character (all tho with the current writing team you never know lol) like all this poor cat has ever wanted is to heal her clan mates but if she’s mothstar she will have to lead her cats into battle whenever there’s a vicious animal or a clan threatening her. There’s just no peaceful way to get rid of something like the stoats in crowfeathers trial. I just can’t imagine poor mothwing ordering her clan mates into something so dangerous.

I don't think Icewing is disqualified. Lionblaze was because he realized leadership position was not for him, and it was confirmed when Squilf picked up Ivypool as her deputy and he was reassured.
So if we take Lionblaze situation as an exemple, Duskfur is disqualified because she was visibly relieved to not have to lead the clan anymore. But for Icewing, it wasn't really the case. I'd even say, she was shown to perform rathee well considering her situation (Tigerstar being the one to put her in charge).
I would hate for both Frostpaw and Mothwing to be leaders. Not that I wouldn't like them as leaders. But Mothwing is happy being a medecine cat and explicitly said she doesn't want to be a leader. And Frostpaw... Well, you explained it.
I feel like Mothstar as a concept would be a major "in your face!" @ Tigerclawstar and Hawkfrost, and I'm here for it.
(But I also think "Beestar" as a possibility has some basis too, because of the dream about walking on the frozen river -- I know other comments have been like "Oh, Bee's gonna be the new med cat and it'll be Froststar!" but I feel like it makes more sense in terms of "Bee is a leader *supported by* the med cat, Frostpaw". Because.... Bee is the one being *supported by* the frozen river that's being walked on (other random thought = maybe Icewing as deputy to Beestar lol) in the vision.)
When they met the park cats I was really hoping one would come back and end up as leader because of their connection to Riverstar's history (Rook, specifically). But we're far beyond that point now :(
Not necessarily. Wasp left back for the cats and dont forget Bee had a very strange dream. He saw Riverclan cats and ice and stuff? I dont remember the exact passage, but I do remember believing fiercely he would come back in a position of power for RC. Wasp may still come back with Rook or Bee as options. I cant see Mothwing or Frostpaw fitting the role tbh and my strongest contender within RC is Icewing despite her having and giving it up. We shall see in November

I disagree with the point you made about how Frostpaw only had 4 cats die who are important to her, and therefore can’t become leader (I won’t address the other points because they are mostly valid). The team could easily make Riverstar or Leopardstar give her a life, or possibly Willowshine, or maybe even Mudfur. And in Onestar’s Confession and Crookedstar’s Promise the team really had to start coming up with random stuff to give lives. Gorsestar gave Onestar a life, and a bunch of cats Crookedstar never knew gave him lives. So assuming Jayclaw, Harelight, Mistystar, Reedwhisker, Riverstar, Willowshine, Leopardstar and Mudfur give Frostpaw lives, then they would only need one more cat to give a life. They could have Leafpool, Nightstar, or maybe a cat who dies in Star give Frostpaw a life. If they did make Frostpaw become Froststar, then I don’t think the amount of cats who died in her lifetime would be a problem.
Am i the only one who thought it was foreshading when Frostpaw got a vision of a FROSTED feather to decide who should be leader? My theory is that Frostpaw was going to be leader after Reedstar, but shit got fucked up along the way

I think leader Mothwing only works narratively if she is presented as a moral alternative of a leader who choses not to take 9 lives. She wouldnt want them, she wouldn't accept them if they stay true to her character at all.

My favorite theory that I made up for why Tigerstar got 9 lives is StarClan misinterpreting a prophecy about a Tigerstar restoring ShadowClan that was actually meant for Tigerstar2.

I'm currently on Team Froststar, mostly for the kind of arbitrary reasoning of "we haven't learned her warrior name yet which to me implies they're making extra sure it doesn't get leaked", "we haven't seen a POV character ascend to leader in the same series since Firestar", and "it would be funny if she goes straight from Frostpaw to Froststar."
I do think the stuff about Mothwing never reuniting with her loved ones in Starclan being foreshadowing is a really compelling argument for her becoming Mothstar though - that'd be a good setup/payoff. That said I do also like that she has kind of a unique relationship with Starclan and I don't want her atheism to be ""fixed"".
Also I am so onboard with Berryheart betraying Splashtail and trying to become leader. I kind of want to see what happens when an unqualified/evil cat gets rejected by starclan.
I feel like Mothstar is unlikely due to her relationship with StarClan and position as a medicine cat. I doubt they'd have a medicine cat ascend to leader, but it's at least possible (I think Icestar is most likely).

I think it’s gonna be Wasp. He seems very underutilized at this point, and he’s already shown that he’d do anything to see the RiverClan of his dreams. The idea also goes well with forming a new RiverClan that’s more like Riverstar’s, since Wasp has no experience in the current RiverClan (so his mind has also not been warped by all their recent trauma) but knows more than most actual RiverClan cats about Riverstar’s ways. He’s a clean slate and, if this phrase ever had any legitimacy, not an “obvious choice”.
I am not convinced he actually left for good, and even if he intended to I think it’s very possible the super edition quest will have something to do with fetching him

It would be wild if more park cats were to show up after hearing the state of things from wasp. Those cats love Riverclan, even if they never properly met the clans, I’d imagine at least 1 or 2 would show up to try and help Frostpaw. It’s be even wilder if one of them got picked

I know this is a month old. But I think I have a good theory on who could be the next leader of RiverClan.
Now hear me out! It's not Icewing, it's not Mothwing or Bee and it's not Frostpaw.
The poor state of RiverClan leads me to one possible candidate who already has proven themselves worthy as a leader in Greystripe's Vow.
Monkeystar, and her collective clan of stray Kittypets known as WarriorClan. Their territory also just so happens to be on RiverClan territory, so their familiarity to the river also adds into the idea of Monkeystar leading WarriorClan to the lake with the help of Frostpaw, Nightheart and Sunbeam.
I know everyone's theories about Frostpaw becoming leader, due to Bee's dreams about walking on a frozen river (although it is subjective and could just mean he'll join RiverClan)..but honestly I rather Frostpaw not be placed with a higher mantle of power. She's been fundamentally stressed from the get go. And even though she's not technically a child anymore, she's far too young to take on such a responsibility and well being in the constant spotlight. She needs a break.
We also have to take into account that some RiverClan cats will die in the battle that will predictably happen. Splashtail specifically, and perhaps Podlight.
RiverClan's members are TINY in comparison to the other clans, and whilst kits are good; and recently RiverClan greeted three new more. They take time to grow up in the books, and RiverClan really needs grown cats to join their ranks.
This is why I genuinely believe that WarriorClan will join RiverClan. WarriorClan had many cats, (some named and unnamed.)

a favorite subsection of Moonkitti videos for me has to be the ones with a self-contained style for the character designs (Deputy Chance, the Bramble/Ashfur duology, kinda the River video, etc). Moon really gets to flex her character design skills and never disappoints

I think you shouldn't completely eliminate Gorseclaw due to his brother being killed by Splashtail. One of my favorite characters was Harelight and it's very sad he was killed off. I think he was the one of the few characters Splashtail convinced to him become leader. Harelight was his deputy. I think Gorseclaw was on Splashtail's side bc of his brother. After Harelight was killed I think Gorseclaw will get his revenge with Splashtail and become the new leader of Riverclan. I would love to see Gorseclaw as leader because I feel him and his brother believed in the old ways of Riverclan and will stay true to Starclan.

I feel that if it HAS to be a current RiverClan cat, then Mothwing definitely. But it would make sense for it to be like, a cat from the park. However, with all the "RiverClan needs to make their own choice of whos leader", I feel like it would have to be a RiverClan cat. So yeah, Mothwing.

I personally find the argument of Mothwing not communicating with StarClan disqualifies her as being leader a kind of weak one. It's hard to recognize because a lot of protagonist plot relevance, but the world building of Warriors itself states that it's very rare for a cat who is not a medicine cat or leader to ever hear from StarClan before they become leader. Meaning, probably 90% of the leaders never communicated with StarClan before becoming leader as well. Not to mention that Mothwing does hold some amount of belief in them after Omen of the Stars. To me, that rules that argument out, but I also am open to seeing other perspectives on this point too

Honestly i don't like MothWing becoming MothStar, mainly because it would kind of go agienst her entire character and she herself hated being the temp leader, she hated being the temp leader so much she pushed it on a mentally unwell apprentice who was barely 6 moons old. Not only that i just don't want this series and it's writers to put all of TigerStar the first's decendents in seats of power, it's getting to be a bit too much at this point T.T

I had an idea while reading Wind that star clan will stop giving clan leaders 9 lives.
This would allow for frequent changes of leadership without having to wait for cats to zoom through 9 lives.
It would also create an even playing field for all cats to aspire to be leader without feeling they need a close relationship with star clan to be accepted.
I think this would also have the clans make decisions without starclans guidance other than the medicine cats connection as well as putting extra emphasis on how medicine cats are the core link to star clan.
Riverclan will start this and maybe squirrelstar would come forward to announce she didn't get 9 lives but she's still the best cat for the job to lead thunderclan with or without star clans blessing of 9 lives.
This could also start a chain of events to have tigerstar to stepdown or have his clan to elect a new leader. This could also happen in the other clans, I think leafstar would step down but harestar would be elected to stay as leader.
I would love to see Tigerstar, Mothstsr, SquirrelStar, crowstar, and hawkstar
