I checked others, but found yours. You completely took away my frustration. Even the tone of your voice relaxed me! Bless you! You are the best. You have helped tremendously. No one else showed how to slide the back cover off, and no one else prepared me that it might take a little working to get the old battery out. Just knowing that, kept me from thinking that I was doing something wrong. Thank you, Rob!
Thank you for documenting the step by step! My son just got a used Priius as his first car, and the fob was intermittently working. Works like a champ now!
I’ve referenced videos older than 4yrs but always amazes me that someone who made a video years ago is here to help me today! Car dealer is across town and watch repair guy couldn’t figure out how to open this type of fob. Your excellent simple instructions are easy peasy to follow so I was able to change battery myself. 🙏🏽 THANK YOU. And hope you have a Happy New Years! 🥳
It says something that this fob stumped almost 93000 people enough for them to seek help on youtube. Hope the newer models are easier to figure out. Thank you for posting this video!
Thank you so much!! Hi did everything you said from ordering the battery and getting the little tools and doing it myself instead of paying the dealership to do it..THANK u!
When i tried to replace the battery on my own, I didnt realize that latch needs to be pushed in to remove the cover. So glad i found this vid and didnt break key fob. Thank you.
I always watch this video when I have to replace the battery. Only thing: my battery cover broke years ago, so I only unscrew 3 screws as the fourth is now permanent! And the cover is broken to release without removing the fourth. Still works. AND, the part you push in to release the outer cover is broken also, but I can still get it open and it will still work. Fingers crossed. Even though the driver's side door lock is now wonky! This time replacing the battery, the most difficult part was getting the battery out of the double sided plastic encasement in the packaging! Almost needed a tutorial for THAT! Thanks for this video!
This is terrific - so clear and well recorded - and super helpful, especially since the key mechanism is impossible to figure out without expert guidance like this. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip. One thing I found is that you actually dont need the screwdriver to push the button in when getting the back cover plate on and off. You can just use your finger to pull the lever to the side and it will come off and on.
To get the battery out faster, take the flathead and push down on the edge of the battery underneath that semicircular bracket. Pushing down creates a see-saw effect that pushes the battery up on the side opposite the bracket, and allows you to just pull the battery out with your fingers in about two seconds. I figured that out after struggling to get an exact underneath for several minutes.
OMGosh thank you I'm literally at Autozone and looked this up because the Auto employees had no clue how to open this up, But Now I do and so do they for this make and modle....True Car Saver.....God bless u I'm subscribing
Thanks; this helped in particular when I was unable to manage getting the 'back' off. Using the tool to push the hinge in, as opposed to one's finger to slide it, was super helpful.
Best guide ever. Just did it without even watching through first time. I paused when needed. Recommend you go check remote function before putting all the screws in!
I found that the sliding off part I didn't need a screwdriver just push the same slider to remove the physical key and slide at the same time as I have found in the past pushing things with a screwdriver can damage things. I also used a plastic pry tool to pull the battery out and also used a guitar pick once since I don't want to scratch anything on these remotes
Thanks for the tutorial. It was super helpful! You forgot to mention there is an O ring in the groove surrounding the battery, before you put the plate back on.
I so infrequently relace the FOB battery, I always forget how to get the darned cover off the plastic case without forcing it and God forbid, breaking it! This video is priceless and I'll bookmark it for next time. Thank you so much, Key Fob Rob!
Thank you for this video, I am helping my 87 yr. old uncle out, he now has the spare key on a key ring in case his battery goes dead again. It is being replaced today.👍
Thanks! I'm always taking my fob to the dealer to have them put a new battery in but I wanted to do it myself and your video showed me how easy it was. Just took me less than ten minutes to do it (the screws were not wanting to come out). Thanks again!
Thank you so much, I could not figure out that stupid back compartment for the life of me and this seems to be the only model with that on it so none of the other videos were of any help. You are GOATed for this.
Thank you! I think my wife once asked a mechanic to fix her fob and it was like $50 or something. I knew I could count on youtubers to get me on the right track. It cost me $5.00.
Thank you very much for this very clear and to-the-point video, it was just what I needed and it helped a lot indeed because without the explanation it is quite difficult to figure it out !
Thank you. The Toyota dealership here told me "I could just get this done at Wal-Mart" after I have bought two different cars from them. It is My impression they like selling cars, but don't like helping after purchase. An oil change is a two-week wait (and their garage seems to have one mechanic and starkly empty). I no longer wish to even go there. Last week they sent an email to "buy my car back." I told them everything I said here. Technically, I have purchased three vehicles, but they changed ownership.
Thanks! I noticed that this is the 2nd time I'm using these instructions since I had previously liked the video. So this time I'll leave feedback. Great Job, clear instructions and straight to the point :)
This helped a bunch! Quick tip for those having trouble sliding the piece up and off. Keep your thumb pushing that metal piece on top in and use a flat screwdriver and insert it in the line / insert of the piece you are trying to slide up. Basically dig it in there and then slide up and it should come off. That’s what worked best for me
Thank you so much for demonstrating I couldn’t get into my car and I didn’t even know it came with a key so tomorrow I’m getting another batteries cheers
@@KeyFobRob I have a question, changing the battery didn’t seem to help, my fob works when I walk up to the door, but it doesn’t work when I push the buttons on the fob, do you know how to fix that?
Thanks man, you helped me fix my brother's remote. He almost sent his prius to the dealer to get it checked out. Who knows how much they'd have charged him
Thanks this was super helpful and it was great learning how to resolve this problem on my own! It is not a perfect solution as my key fob still won't lock my doors so I have to do that manually. However it now recognizes my passenger door and will unlock the drivers side, passenger and trunk ( not the rear doors). All in all very helpful if not a perfect solution. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for video, i got the 2007 Prius in early 2009 and the battery never went dead until a few days ago, about 15 years. i didn't even know they had a battery. I didn't know what was suddenly wrong with my car, called Auto Club and the guy came out and said i had a dead FOB battery, he said it was an easy fix and he showed me that i could still use it to start the car with it in the slot on the dashboard. I had spare set putof keys including the FOB so i got that and used it to lock the car with the FOB instead of having to take the key out. I even have a key from a FOB on my key chain with my other keys so i won't have to take it out of the FOB just to lock or unlock the car, but i don't know where the FOB is that goes to that key. Anyway, the two FOBs have had since this battery dead problem started---one had a working battery which could remotely unlock or lock the car and one had a dead dbattery which didn't unlock or lock the car remotely. Now they both do. What i don't understand is, when the battery went out on the one i was using all the time until it died, it allowed keyless entry and start up just by pushing the round start button, i could leave my keys in my pocket the whole time, but after the battery died, my spare FOB set could not allow the car to be started without putting the FOB in the dashboard slot. Even though both FOBs now have working batteries, neither one will open the car by touching the door handle or lock the car by pushing the button on the door handle, leaving the FOB in my pocket. I now have to take the FOB out to do that and i have to put the FOB in the dashboard slot to start the car. I used to leave my keys/FOB in my pocket all the time. Now i have to be taking them out to use them a lot. When the battery went dead, did that erase some kind of settings that have to be re-entered? I never set anything, it's always worked with keyless ignition and keyless unlocking of all 4 doors. Now, with working batteries, both FOBS open the driver door only. i looked at the Prius manual but it's not very informative and uses language i don't recognize even though it's English. It seems to not know that the car is capable of these functions. Now that i have the original FOB that i've always used working with battery again, i can see that this does not restore the functioning of the car to what it was before. i haven't googled this yet.. i don't know exactly how to put it into words. THANK YOU for very clear direct straight forward video.
If you have the black toyota symbol on the back of the fob try this: a. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 2 seconds. RELEASE. b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button and hold for 2 seconds. RELEASE. The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks from LOCK to UNLOCK to indicate successful programming of the remote.
Very helpful! Took me less than 5 minutes and I feel more confident now if I ever have to replace the fob battery again. Thank you!! (Ps. I didnt have a tiny screwdriver, so I used the tip of a pocketknife blade. Sometimes you have to be resourceful!)
To get the battery out a little more easily: use a flat head screwdriver push down under the non-moving plastic lip holding the battery in place. This pushes the other end up, making it easy to remove the old battery.
Replacing the key fob battery also fixed the problem I was having with 2007 Prius dashboard cluster lights not turning on when starting car. I may still need to later replace the combination meter for dashboard, but replacing the key fob battery has worked twice now for me.
quickly scrolled through the comments and didn't see anyone else mention this -- just don't forget to peel off that sticker on the back of the battery if yours has it! i didn't even think to haha and was wondering why the little red light wasn't flashing when i pressed the buttons. hopefully it'll save someone else from having to redo all the steps like i did lol!
O great and wonderful Key Fob Rob, when I'm holding my fob and doing other things with my hands at the same time, I frequently accidentally press the panic alarm.
