Literally the first time I've seen this since 1983. Fantastic. What gets me as much as the music is the crowd's energy. Properly going from it from the first song. We knew how to enjoy ourselves back then.
Thanks for this. I was there in 1983 about 5-6 rows from the front. They started with Sandstorm and then Starchild - their sound check staple. The concert flew buy and they finished with Are you Hearing. This was just before they left for the US and begin recording Standing in the Light. A night I won't forget. The atmosphere was intense. Small venue. Miss those days
Yeah, what's it with them and their love of Starchild :). I think Love Games would be my SC choice. Check out my L42 playlist for the remastered version.
I've been playing bass for about 25 years now and I can play and sing songs ie. White Room, Tom Sawyer, Still Got the Blues,.....yet I am amazed at MK's ability for someone who had only been playing for a short time here. RIP Boon, your legacy will continue on through the years.
I was there it was very bright in the audience because of the tv cameras on there it looks dark, the sound hitting your chest was amazing and it was extremely hot in there, I also saw them at the Queensway hall in Dunstable which is now a Asda unfortunately
Had this on VHS, till I got rid of the deck and tapes, thinking I could get it on DVD, but to no avail. Thanks therefore for reviving some great memories from decades back!
Since a commercial DVD of this concert has never been available to buy, then why don't you try downloading it to a blank DVD instead, as you can legally download stuff from RUclips for a nominal fee. It's what I'd do if I were you..
Saw them regularly at this time, about 4 times in all. Dunstable was usually pretty good. More of a Brit Funk /Jazz Funk crowd, hence the whistles. Love Meeting Love. Good to hear that again.
I must have been about15 when I happend on thisn by turnin onBB2 (when it weas good) I was mthisnanits what theholynfuck is that bass player doing!!!?? MK changed my way of thinking. when I got ill he sent me an autograph that made me cry!! I love to meet hin person one day before the old "sod it thing " happens god bless you Mr K xx
Half a dozen years ago, I picked up a guy from back stage at Blossom Music Center during the day before the show that evening. He was a 30 year-old bass player for, I think, Chrissie Hynde (a local girl), so he was a 'hired gun'. We got to talking about Bass players, and I mentioned That Mark King was one of my favorites, and after a moment of bewilderment, the guy snarked "oh yeah, he's a slapper". I just thought about Sir George Martin's praise of Level 42 - to myself - along with the three decades of 'slapping' that I, my kids, and thousands have enjoyed all this time - then lost some respect for my passenger.
Comes with the fun of being a L42 fan! I got into them because of Love Meeting Love, ao I point to that when people only think of him as only a slapper :)
Paul McCartney. Slap bass is a technique for a particular music genre rather than more proficient on the bass. John Entwistle is another bar his rare singing.
What a crowd and what a band. Not a camera phone in sight, just people enjoying the moment
Heaving...takes me back😊
Wouah merci👍👍 Encore une pépite de la meilleur période de Level 42.

A much rawer Level 42 performing & in 3-5 years time, they would become much more polished with great songs from their subsequent albums.

Do you know another musician that can play the bass so masterly and, also, sing so well?
Answers on a postcard please :).

Yes : Sting.
He doesn't chew gum at the same time though . . !!
Brilliant but they did Sandstorm after that i missed lol
Wow, where did you get this?
