- Best viewed in 720p. I'm player 1, Mark is player 2 and Mike is player 3. I edited out the second set of gym battles after round 3, since the option to repeat the battles was not supposed to be picked.

Everything about this game is so delightfully cheesy in that early 90s video game way that it's just awesome. The basic-bitch font that they use for the credits and stage messages; the way the characters all move like ridiculous caricatures; the over-the-top (yet still hilariously low-quality) sound effects and music. It's all here and I love it.
interesting note: when you are facing the final boss. when there is only one more hit of damage left to beat the game, you cannot use your super magic power move to defeat the final boss. the magic power is powerless for the only time in the entire game for that final hit of damage. the hidden message is that YOU have the real power and you can do it yourself.

First time I see this game and I probably like many who knew the game, I immediately thought Pit-Fighter.
The thing that made it obvious to me was the music - it's got this uniquely awful quality to it that's instantly recognizable from Pit Fighter.

This is the sequel, technically. I still like the original more.
These oldschool fighting games are the best other than violent video games today
since there seems to be no comprehensive control scheme to be found anywhere on the entire internet: to pick up weapons/objects/people, press (block+ medium kick) you can also pick up enemies when they are laying on the ground and throw them. to execute your super magic power move: press (back, forward, then medium kick) when pressing back, forward, medium kick it must be executed fast. to jump press (up twice or diagonal twice to jump forward). to dodge attacks forwards and backwards press (forward twice or back twice). to repeatedly slam your opponents head on the ground press (medium kick+high kick) while standing directly above your opponent when they or laying on the ground. press (medium kick+high kick) while the opponent starts to get up and you will repeatedly knee them in the face. to smash your opponents face repeatedly into poles, walls, or other objects press (direction pad+high punch) when you have the enemy near a wall or object. to engage in a test of strength press (block+medium kick+direction) then press buttons fast to win the test of strength. certain enemies, mainly women, you cannot engage in a test of strength with. (medium kick+ direction) also throws an opponent if you are close to them. also you can kick opponents when they are laying on the ground with both kick buttons. i hope this helps since there is zero information anywhere about this. if anyone can please let me know how to change outfit colors in 1 player mode or any other moves not mentioned here, that would be greatly appreciated. and if anyone wants to talk with me about anything guardians of the hood related, please do.

If there's one thing that could of broke this game past Tanya being OP is just including Ty as a playable character.
Kinda prefer the all 3 players taking on the final boss together over Pit Fighters' elimination match

tanya being OP?? what do you mean by OP? optional? tanya is my ty in guardians of the hood. of course ty rules in pitfighter thats why in pitfighter i play as ty. but in guardians of the hood i play as tanya, im just as good with her and i like her moves.
OP as in overpowered since Ty's punches just outmatch Buzz and Katos by a ton.

This game actually *looks* fun with multiplayer.
In a coop beat-em-up such as Double Dragon it kinda made sense to have a fight to the death to see who wins and get the girl, but why in the hell do you have a fight to the death in this game AFTER EVERY ROUND! This game is awful enough but what a dick move to have 3 player coop and then 2 players have to join back in again after each round...

Wow. An arcade game with a multiplayer pay wall. It takes no fewer than 11 credits to get 3 players through to the end of the game. Even if all 3 players played a no death game, 4 gym matches take a credit from both losers each time plus 3 credits to get started. Who in their right mind would choose the option to repeat the gym matches?
This game looks tots radical. Someone needs to port the white Defender to M.U.G.E.N.
If I ever felt like beating up annie lennox and some of her band mates I will have to play this game lol

yeah its pretty cool. pit fighter the arcade version is a fun game if you know how to play it. guardians of the hood has more moves and things you can do while still maintaining that old school charm and weirdness.

2014 ARCADE
how do you pick up weapons? this is the only instructions i could find. i forgot how to do it. "When one happens upon a weapon, the player is actually required to perform a combination involving four input commands just to pick up and start using the weapon."
To pick up the weapon, hold the guard button and press the regular kick button. I think on MAME, guard is called button 3 while kick is button 2.
@@arronmunroe thank you so much. i will try that. i had to remap the mame controls and then suddenly i couldnt pick up weapons. i thought it was block+down and kick, but that doesnt seem to be working now...
@@arronmunroe it turns out i did remember and i was pressing the right buttons but i forgot how clunky and unresponsive the controls are. lol. it made me think i forgot.

What do you use for netplay?
I used MAME++. It's a flawed emulator, because it uses Kaillera, but I don't know of the perfect emulator when it comes to arcade netplay. Parsec is another option.
2014 NETPLAY
the only game that encourages you to NOT master the game play and move set. and i dont just mean because of the total lack of information regarding the move set that seems to be secret or hidden knowledge, that you cant find anywhere, because no one knows it. no, im talking about the fact that even if you master this game and figure out all of its moves, it punishes you for it by having a timer that runs out way too fast. that means you have to continuously intentionally take damage throughout the levels in case you are close to being timed out, so that you can purposely die and continue the level without having to restart. i guess thats why they didnt want you to know the moves and have that absurd timer. why? so that you would have to keep putting quarters in. i love this game lol

I don't think it's fun too. It's one of the worst side scrolling beat em ups I've played.
but I guess you just had to add it to the collection, at least being able to add the bosses you already beaten to the characther roster was a nice touch...but not enough AT ALL to save it
Invidente7 There are some types of games I would probably not upload to youtube, but it would have more to do with difficulty editing than me not giving it a try. Also, Mike, who was player 3, is actually a big fan of this game.
