Hi Jade, two tips that are not yet in the manual, (i'll include them in the next update) when you're looping steps with the looper; hold a looper indent and press any step. The looper will then loop starting from that step. Second tip: if you like the metronome it's good to know that you can change its time division on the fly by holding the tap button and selecting a new time division on the keyboard..
VERY nice tune at the end-wonderful example of using the key step pro! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the reaction to those who say "you're not minimalist"--ha! Those folks just aren't into synths--and can just leave the rest of us addicts alone!
YOU ALWAYS make the freshest beats and pieces. It’s not the gear I can tell, you have a very particular pair of ears that are constantly distinguishing and discriminating. It makes me ask, how much time does it take for you to ‘settle’ on any particular voice? It is something that you could spend forever searching for and sometimes never really be happy with. Very fitting your pattern, it matches your T-shirt. I am really happy for you, that you’ve found some sort of niche on RUclips, since you could be doing all the same stuff but no one would even know it. More selfishly I’m glad I found you because you’re really good and it’s to my benefit, I’ve liked all of it. Keep it up. THANKS AGAIN!!
finally someone that likes the lights! my studio is dark with colored led lights and I love the atmosphere... in fact my whole house not a single room has direct bright lighting.... the colored leds from aquariums are part of the lighting but its mood lighting throughout my house...
So lovely to see another Eurorack system with cute stickers on it! (and not just the manufacturer and retailers' stickers lol) And such a lovely video in general, especially the song at the end... I wouldn't dare make something so lighthearted/chill on my own system but I'm so glad you're putting this energy out there
love your explanations and tutorials as well. thank you for putting this stuff out there. the arturia keystep really doesnt have that many tutorials and some of the other ones don't explain things for us that are beginners so very helpful coming here.
Hopefully they announce the black one soon so it'll match my setup. This is exactly what I need. Picked up the BruteS2 instead of the Beatstep Pro, glad I did now.
Hi! I like the sounds coming out of your modular system. It happens too often that I feel people using modules don’t really know what they’re trying accomplish or they’re not good at it, I don’t know... I collect Korg volcas last couple years but the built in sequencers don’t have enough length and storage capacity. This Arturia seems very nice. Thanks for your video!!!
I think this has more in common with the BeatStep Pro and more likely the successor to that machine than the KeyStep despite the name. It looks more like the added on a keyboard and an extra track to the BeatStep Pro as well as a few other enhancements. I might be oversimplifying things here. Very nice video though.
I kind of think its not quite really. I think all the Arturia controllers are awesome though. Beatstep pro has fantastic velocity sensitivity of the pads, does complex rhythms, triggers samples/envelopes with 8 gates...it's kind of a beast really. And the interface is more to 'tweak' melodies, and play beats/samples/triggers. The Keystep Pro looks perfectly slotted for that player that is primarily sequencing melodic work, but doesn't want to switch to pads as an interface (although of course you can do keys on pads...it's just kind of weird to me). The KP can fully lay down a beatstep sequence, but you're going to be *playing* melodies on the keys, not hitting pads.
Love my KSP.. so quick and easy to jam out the starting point of a track without complex routing or computer.. comments about other more powerful modular sequencers miss the point, that this is about usability and workflow to unlock creativity..
Nice track at the end! I’m considering buying one of these. Seems like it would be great for a few desktops or rack mounted gear as well. Anything really. Well I’ll be waiting on that Arturia Keystep Pro 8 to come out as well. That’s 8 sequences at once 😂 💕
Nice piece of gear but almost one year later and the dark edition has not hit the stores yet. My minibrute and beatstep are dark so it would look kind of wierd to not have the dark keystep pro beside them. I'm looking at you Arturia!! Well.. Thanks for the video! :-)
Love your channel and your genuine excitement about the KSP, it transmits more about the product than any features-listing review could. I’d be all over the KSP, but the thing that keeps me from buying one is that switching midi channels on the fly on this keystep edition has been made seemingly impossible. Reading the manual it seems that, to change the midi channel, there’s some menu diving necessary. That’s a shame for me, ‘cause I’ve got a bunch of gear chained up and organised across all 16 channels, so here it seems I’m forced to choose between four instruments to control directly via the tracks and then if I want to jam over those with another instrument, I have to go into the Utility Menu to change the midi channel. Well, maybe I’ll have to get a Squarp Pyramid to place between my Keystep and my gear, after all.
honestly ...cool...like that your content shows your gear i thought i was in a space ship when i was young but your beyond.well diffrent time for me..oohh do i miss. but gonna get what i need to make my gear sing again. and yes yes why not 8....ohhh please 8
Thank you again for another awesome video. I have just gotten into eurocrack and have the novation sl mk3 but its cv out what I bought it for is lacking. This was so informative. Keep the videos coming stay safe. Thank you
THanks for the video!! I have a couple questions... as a non-keyboard player. Can you set the LEDs over the keys to display a specific scale? Also can you record notes one step at a time... in other words, can you select a step (1-16) on the pads, key in a note, go to next step, repeat?
@@1_of_4 Haven't found that in the manual though. Another thing that's going to make a lot of people mad is the missing global transpose. It can only transpose what's currently in focus. So forget about transposing a whole song in a live setting, if you have to step through each track one after another thats not gonna play well.
Really glad I found your channel! I've been trying to decide on what to use with my DIY synth, I've got a beat steps pro ordered, but I need keys >< Figured this one might be a good one to use. Cheers for the information! That was an excellent groove at the end too :)
I never buy desktop synths because of lack of keyboard(with the exception of the Crave which I use as a third synth voice for my Minibrute 2). I am more of a piano/keyboard player than someone who likes to program sequences. This seems perfect for me. Glad I held out instead of just getting a keystep. Will be picking this up once coronavirus is over and I start working again.
Iván Valencia - that sounds pretty pessimistic to me! Hospital admissions falling in most European countries as we speak. Zach - I'm the opposite to you, much prefer desktop synths. They're generally cheaper and save a lot of space. Sure you need at least one keyboard to be able to play stuff into your sequencer then let midi routing take care of the rest :)
That song! Talk about taking command of your gear. Sounds great! I haven’t stepped into eurorack stuff (yet), still I did order this controller recently. You have a lot of gear pass through your setup, which is awesome to watch your reviews and get your take. On this one, does it still fit in with your setup/workflow or has something else taken its place?
Excellent video Jade, as always. Do you still own this? I experienced 7 bugs right away, first day. $100 more than the launch price.... I don't know. I am heavily leaning toward returning it. Bugs: freezing, ghost-like arp behavior (making some random chromatic/upward arpeggio, stuck... Hold button not on), turned on, no screen and most of the lights out... to name a small few. Latest firmware. Did factory reset twice. Another thing that bugs me a lot about it is it doesn't have quick MIDI-channel switching, like the KS, BSP, and KS37. Makes no sense.
That sucks! Haven't had any of those issues but I haven't updated for a while so maybe it's a bug? Sounds defective though. I honestly think it's one of the best sequencers out there for hardware. I don't do that much MIDI sequencing, but that would be my go to
This is something I need all Iv been making music on is a Yamaha DJ a pocket operator KO sampler and a Tuscam multitrack recorder I try and keep away from computers I sometimes use a daw but I hate its . no fun at all
I'm so glad Arturia decided to put that on off switch and AC power on the Keystep Pro. Every single time I have to plug that janky ass micro USB into the Beatstep Pro I'm half expecting it to break. And that power switch... Damn that thing sucks. Other than those two minor things, the BSP was about as perfect as a sequencer can get. I really want a KSP. But, with the holidays upon us and tax season coming up shortly after that, I'm looking at getting one around summer of 2022. 😥 Oh, well. 1st world problems....
Great video, now I have to buy that thing. Just one question - did you record that first sequence non quantized? This feature is really important to me, so how do you find it and do you prefer it? Thanks a lot. Great music.
Minimalism is about having only things you need or that matters and is important to you, so if you care about having all that gear, you shouldn’t be afraid or fell guilty for buying more. Only get rid of things you don’t really need!
I’m still learning a lot about this kind of music. So noob question. Can this Arturia makes sounds of its own or does it simply control other hardware instruments?
I know I said predecessor, I meant to say SUCCESSOR. Thank you to all the grammar nazis that pointed that out ;)

What a wonderful piece you created. Sounds fantastic!
Thanks for the clear, concise review. Really helped. Nice tunes as well.
Gosh I just discovered your channel and you're a true gem I mean wow

I didn’t want the track to end. Mad skills girl!!

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Voice to me are always evolving and changing, so I focus more on the melody and let the voices be a live tweaking part
Best vid for the Keystep Pro I’ve seen so far. Your jam was a treat, too!

I've watched maybe 10 videos concerning the Beat Step Pro ... and yours is by far the best... Thank You
I didn't realize the Pro is so cool. Some great features here! I had a Keystep and sold it, this looks like a keeper.
Tack!
Hopefully they announce the black one soon so it'll match my setup. This is exactly what I need. Picked up the BruteS2 instead of the Beatstep Pro, glad I did now.
Oh man, you are on FIRE this week and my quarantine loves it.
The fast pluck sound paired with the ping pong delay really got me, thank you a lot, great track!!!
I loved the way you played the first track before it got quantized - there was a 3 over 2 feel in the sixth measure :)
So glad I found you. Thanks for dropping the knowledge!
Lovely arrangement and sounds. Recently added a keystep pro to my setup, it’s making sequencing fun.
I don’t need one of these, but you made me want one... Thanks for all that you do.
Super dope video. Could you make an in depth on how you hook up this exact set up and talk about the rack in the video?
Fantastic Track JAde it is so spacey and soothing ,relaxing at the same time.
The song at the end was so nice!

Thanks, Jade. I just got mine today. I’m NEW to synthesizers - in spite of my channel! 😛
Beautiful song.
Thanks as always.

But it lacks the drum pads of beatstep pro; it’s definitely it’s own thing imho. It’s also missing some of beatstep pro’s features which is a bummer.
Your video quality stepped up big time! Keep it up!
I just got one very stoked to check it out ! thanks for the info sista !

thank *YOU*. i think mine comes in today. =) your song was heavenly. put me in a trance.

A good one! Thanks for a small review!
That jam was INCREDIBLE! 🔥🔥🔥
thank you so much ...definitly getting

Excellent video and awesome jam!!
I guess the step repeat is the short term solution to the lack of ratchets? Hopefully they add that soon; all the same I ordered one. Nice vid...
Rachets would be nice..
Still waiting for that one! It's there in the BSP already
Nice piece of gear but almost one year later and the dark edition has not hit the stores yet.

Thanks Jade, what is making the lovely first arp pattern at 6:35 ?
Yamaha Montage!
Glad to see someone who hate cables too, except colorful ones :)
Just got one. Thanks for the overview. :)
Forget the review, amazing original track Jade ! Tell me what rack unit are you running there ?
Thanks! And what rack?
Sorry, your modular gear there
super useful review, thanks a lot
RIGHT ON RIGHT ON
Love the jam!!!
Nice jam @ 6:35 - Four tracks is enough for minimalist grooves!
Your music is so 😊 lovely
do recall early analog sequencers...do like specs of new and both.i do like.getting regardless.thanks for info.
One thing I’d love to have for my keystep is transpose automation. Wonder if the new keystep pro can do that.
Château Robinet I do believe it can do that with the 5 encoders.

This is so pretty to me. I have a Novation 49SL MKIII though. I'm not sure I can find a good enough reason to buy one.
any experience with ableton? how does it work?
The corona crisis drives you to new heights. Your videos are so much fun to watch!
I like your style, thanks for this.
Great review! Can't wait to get my hands on it. Where did you get it? Sweetwater apparently does not get them until the 23rd of April.
I just found your channel... Thanks for this great content! The music at the end made me want to go play Zelda or Final Fantasy. Bravo!
Nice vid, been thinking about this device for a while. Quick question? How do you backup your projects, like if it was stolen.
Thanks. I believe you can do it through USB

Great review! :) The missing notes at the start of a recording you mentioned, could that be due to a count in/precount in the sequencer?
Keystep Pro is the successor to the Keystep, not predecessor.
Fantastic video. Thanks Jade!

Great content here, subbed!
Ugh. I love that tune at the end. I would be interested in seeing how you patched those sounds. Maybe on the second channel.
The drums could be replaced by more foley sounds like sticks, water etc
when do we get the black keystep pro, hate that white stuf.
I’m still learning a lot about this kind of music. So noob question. Can this Arturia makes sounds of its own or does it simply control other hardware instruments?
It's only a controller, it doesn't have any sounds of its own
