Ubisoft's Storytelling has REGRESSED...

- Ubisoft games have never really been known for their masterful storytelling but as someone who's played Ubisoft games for a long time I've noticed a very clear regression in Ubisoft's ability to tell good stories in their games. While of course there are some rare exceptions I find that most Ubisoft games from 9-10+ years ago have far superior storytelling than what they've produced in more recent years. In this video I talk about how exactly they've regressed and what can potentially be done to fix this issue, because afterall stories are so crucial to any single-player narrative-driven experience...

Even Ubisoft's cutscene direction, and little things like the framing and camera work has largely taken a step back, IMO, which has negatively impacted their storytelling. And with games like AC being so big now, they can't invest in top notch facial animations like they once had in games like AC Unity and Watch Dogs 2.
Oh my god yes. This is by far the biggest downgrade cause it’s so apparent
The cutscenes look like shit now. It's laughable how bad they are. Mirage's cutscenes are stiff and awkward af. It completely takes me out of the game.
Yeah they can, they are a billion dollar company, they just want to spend as little as possible for shit games
Facts man. That one cutscene in Valhalla with basim and eivor around the fire is so clearly crisper and more refined than the others and it’s really frustrating that they couldn’t replicate it
The thing that I get most frustrated within the Assassin's Creed franchise is new protagonists are introduced just for their stories to be incomplete. Protagonists such as Arno and Connor deserved at least a sequel game to finish their stories.
Bayek's *felt* like the start of a trilogy and that will always bug me. And Kassandra being alive as long as she did gives her opportunity for SO many kinds of stories throughout the ages.
altair deserved the most he got like one game only except for that cartoony games which I don't consider cause it looks silly , ezio was overrated af with his playboy male character I cant stand
@@labelnine The 2 Altair spin-offs, Altair's Chronicles and Bloodlines, weren't cartoony at all, you're tripping mad. Both of them were great games and featured super interesting stories. Altair is very prevalent for a lot of the lore and early novels as well. And of course he was a major selling point for Revelations.
@NelStone1 I will always be angry at them for that. Those greedy idiots could've made absolute bank in a 3 part trilogy but they decided they liked microtransactions and empty soulless copy paste RPG maps more.
cutscene quality and character development have gone straight out the window in assassins creed
Ever since the “Ubisoft Original” tag starting appearing in their games, you can immediately tell if the story will be shit
You do realize AC 2 has that tag
What annoys me about that is that they say 'A' Ubisoft Original when it should be AN Ubisoft Original. They can't even get basic English right.
i remember the ending of AC: Revelations - gave me goosebumps.
I think the first Watch Dogs is a very underrated game, the atmosphere of that game feels similar to the first Assassin's Creed, it's serious, dark, moody, greedy and violent, Aiden Pierce is a very cool protagonist, feels like playing as John Wick
I liked the game when it first came out and I still think it's one of Ubisoft's greatest games. I hate that they got less serious with Watch Dogs and even Far Cry.
The issue with Watch Dog was the bait and switch with what the demo graphic of the game looked like to the actual game that cause a lot of people to downgrade a pretty good game
@@Deriv44 The game, despite the downgraded graphics, still functions as intended though. Like creating a blackout for all of Chicago.
@@3rdStreetAVolitionite Yea I know I enjoyed the game . I just mentioned most people I know at the time had issues with the graphics from the Ubisoft demonstration of the game not matching what the final product was and there some people also that dint like Aiden Pierce .
@@Deriv44 Yeah, I love it. It has a setting and story formula that Ubisoft just doesn't seem to have anymore. Hardly any Ubi games take themselves very seriously anymore.
The main questions a writing team should ask before making a game/film is 'why does this story need to be told?' 'What does it add to the series, characters and what does it give to the audience?'
Most sequels are not necessary and that also creates the hollow feeling around games as they add nothing to the series there apart of. A story should have multiple layers of storytelling and that makes it quality and timeless. I think also the lack of new IPs and just sticking to ones that are financially successful (safe bet) is a huge problem across all creative industries at the moment.
Keep up the great work as always MasterAssassin
I think Cutscene regression is affecting this heavily as well.
AC Origins was probably one of the more recent games (though released in 2017) which had genuinely good story in both main and side quests. Other than that most modern Ubisoft games feel mediocre at best, generic and uninteresting, while older ubi games had deep and emotional stories...wonder what happened...
I mean Odyssey had a genuinely good story. Its had some bad writing and the gameplay wasn't as special as Origins in my book, but the main story is genuinely pretty good. Most people that play it will probably pick specific options through every time. The side quests were also on a spectrum from crazy and hilarious to sad and mysterious. It's a little step down from Origins but it is very good. Also, does nobody else like Far Cry Primal? For a caveman game, I found it to be amazing in the story direction. I think people tend to just hate because they don't like the game's direction. I expected Valhalla to be a Viking game in Assassin's Creed. When I played through it though, I had no idea I would be playing an actual Saga that would take forever. I also think some fans just completely disrespect others based on their tastes. You don't like it but I do. That doesn't make either of us wrong.
@@ac_nerd9794 Yes, you make some good points. I do like far cry primal a lot too, should've mentioned it perhaps, it was a very unique game as well. As for Odyssey, in retrospect I guess the story was decent, but yeah, I didn't find it particularly memorable and it just didn't hit me the same way Origins did. It was also extremely long, because of which I left it in middle for a month or two and then came back to finish it. That probably hurt my experience with the story as well. Maybe I should give it another try...I never could finish Valhalla though, I have at this point taken multiple breaks from Valhalla (started playing in 2021), so I cannot really say anything definitively about its story yet
Edit: I was also very salty at the time of Odyssey's release because it wasn't an assassin's creed story, so that probably further hurt my experience...that is completely on me though, so yeah, I guess I should give it another chance one of these days
@@stevenmoinian5511 I think you should look at it as an AC game with different lore. The game takes place centuries before Bayek and Aya found the Hidden Ones. It's also worth noting Alexios or Kassandra are proto-assassins so them doing some things differently shouldn't make them terrible as they follow their own rules.Yes, it is long but for me I poured hours into exploring the world so I was leveled up without feeling tired. I can also say if you ever do a new game+, the game as a whole feels completely different because the entire story can be played without a single side quest. I have done everything for Valhalla except the last 2 master achievements on Xbox. If the game wasn't so long, I wouldn't be bothered as much but other games are very long as well so I didn't mind. Odyssey is long for some but I know that there are lots of people that love it as much or more than Black Flag because it owns what it is doing, giving players an RPG set in Ancient Greece in the AC universe.
@@ac_nerd9794Odyssey is fine when you forget what franchise it’s SUPPOSED to be apart of. It’s very enjoyable but…..don’t make me say it.
@@stubblytuna4068 It's a good AC game set before the Hidden Ones or Brotherhood. By that logic, anyone that wants a Darius game isn't getting an AC game. It's not perfect, but it's very enjoyable and still one of the better overall experiences for the series.
Oh I agree with the humor. To this day the single exchange Ezio and Antonio have about a coffee drinking etiquette is much funnier than all the jokes in Odyssey and Valhalla combined.
I have said many times: there won't be any change for Ubisoft if its leadership does not.
You want change for AC or Far Cry? Those sitting at the president or CEO seat has to go, get new, creative figures in. And yeah, the guy saying "You shouldn't own your games?" He's the first one to go.
I'm pretty sure Yves and his team have been pretty open about choking women pretty regularly. I'm not saying nothing will knock them off of the throne, but they have yet to be... despite doing everything in their power to do so.
Another issues with modern Ubisoft writing is they are trying to make it inoffensive, and you it is hard to write a good story when they are afraid of offending people now. This is why the newer AC games feels so neutered and moved away from the conspiracy theory stuff and why they killed Watchdogs, this has been proven when they removed/changed stuff from WD:L and AC: Valhalla because someone got offended by those small things.
Cutscenes don’t look as good as they used to with does affect storytelling.
The lighter tone is affecting that aswell.
And double protagonist midday the waters and ofc it takes away from
The character development when you can’t even hone in on single gender for the character to be
@@theprodigalson4003 the real reason why they did two protagonists with games like Odyssey and Valhalla is because one of the higher ups wouldn’t allow them to make a game with a sole female lead because “women don’t sell”.
And that same higher up is no longer at Ubisoft now, and I believe he was arrested by the French authorities.
Yeah, good you mentioned Valhalla. I remember that they changed the description of one mercenary because some Karen on Twitter complained that the line about the mercenary hiding her face because of her severe burns may be harmful to people with such scars. I mean, that person probably haven't even played the damn game, she just saw it somewhere and yet complained about it. Ubisoft should say that they don't care, that it's a game fiction and that would end the conversation. Hell, I also have a burn scar on my hand because of my cousin but I never looked at that line and thought that it's offensive to me. Ubisoft should accept that today people are offended by EVERYTHING. If they tried to please everyone, they would please nobody.
@@MultiKamil97 I forgot which character who’s description was changed, I’m wondering if they actually ended up changing it, because it turned out that Karen was just pretending to get offended so they could piss people off.
It is even mind boggling that they bend the knee to that Karen but sweep allegations of abuse under the rug. I do believe the allegations against them may be a factor into why they chose to go soft.
The second possible factor may be ESG.
That's also why they added in either a male or female character in every game. But even that waters the story down because you never know what is the real version or who the real hero is. It's also why the Judge in FC New Dawn is mute because there's no way to know if you picked a male or female character in FC5. Not that it mattered anyway considering you couldn't even see your character. They're afraid to have a story that says, "This is the story about A MAN who has to overcome something."
Ubisoft: “We’re dying. You will have to destroy us.”
The Lost Crown: “I rather save you.”
Prince of Persia the lost crown was such a breath of fresh air
what exactly are you supposed to save? these are new people new devs. all you can do is for them to replicate the good qualities of the predecessors . they're bunch of programming imitators essentially anyway.
Not only Ubisoft but many other developers, the problem is, before you had people who were actually fans of a franchises working on them and were decision makers, these days people in charge of these projects have barely even played any game of that franchise and they try to change them to suit their taste more, rather than following the core formula that the actual fans actually love and want and what the franchise have always been about, not even going to mention how the games by "western" studios are broken and unoptimized, sadly these days game developers are not hiring people for their skill, but for their real-life "social diversity".
Not just games. Shows. Movies and even shows from overseas get drastically changed to fit whoever tf is in charge of making/translating/localizing it. Which frankly if you wanna make your own thing. Then go right ahead but don't butcher someone elses property/story to make it.
I wish Ubisoft kept Patrice Desilets throughout all the games or at least the main titles. AC desperately needs a Dave Filoni or a Kevin Feige to keep a narrative string weaving through the games.
That is literally Darby McDevitt but even then, hes being held back hands tied behind him.
Black flag was the last AC with a top tier story
Im ashamed I didn't finish the story because I couldn't get past Naval combat😢 but what I did experience, was beautiful
@@arciere9986highly suggest u finish it its masterful
origins wasnt bad
Nah, to me Origins was the last proper AC story because of its lore.
Unity was so close all they had to do was push it a year back let everyone get rogue and make the game about Arno going after revenge on shay and if unity was better it would have made rogue a much more better game as well
The golden age of Ubisoft ended in 2014 the rest the games that followed where generic especially the stories except ac origins i guess but the story could of been better..
Yup. Not just their storytelling and writing, everything regressed after 2014
It's kinda sad in a way cause they went from a unique company to a mainstream one...
Origins story is pretty bad as well. Alien Platypus has made a great critique on it.
Remember when AC used to have good cutscenes? They used to mocap their cutscenes but now they universally look stiff and awful honestly.
It's so uninteresting and unmemorable. The best scene in Valhalla is the campfire one. It's well shot and beautifully acted. Everyone remembers that cutscene.
Bro I love your videos they have so much effort in them (and you forgot to make a thank you for 2023 video like in the previous 2 years)
Thank you! Sorry about that I got really busy towards the end of year and couldn’t get around to it. But I’ll for sure make another video just kind of reflecting on everything and future of the channel. Perhaps for the next subscriber milestone! Again thank your support and kind words🙏Hope you have a good rest of your day!
i will cause im playing my favorite game watch dogs
Also animations in cutscenes and motion capture have taken a huge step back
The last good stories that Ubisoft made (in my opinion) were: AC Origins and Far Cry 5. I think they should pay more attention to the story
Not just the story is regressing, literally everything is
Knowing that you like stealth games I think you should give the batman arkham games a shot
Hitman: World of Assassination also. Using actual disguises and crowd/environment blending. Planning and discovering different ways to assassinate the target. Good story and gameplay, would recommend.
@@TheDeadMansCreedHe had played the Hitman games. He mentioned it in a few videos. It's easily the best stealth game out there. Some mission stories go really deep too.
It's a shame Ubisoft hasn't bothered to give any of the Assassin's Creed protagonists a sequel game since Ezio, unless if the VR game counts. Sure it's great getting new settings and protagonists but why not expand on the ones you have already created? We could see an Arno and Shay crossover game, Edward's life after Black Flag and Connor's life after the American Revolution, and Bayek and Aya building the hidden ones further and maybe Bayek some type of closure with losing his son. I just finished the vacation storyline in Odyssey and seeing the journey Kassandra has to take on by herself makes me want to see more of her story.
I completely agree with you my friend great video. 👍🏻
Removing actual cutscenes and replacing them with real time dialogue scenes with stiff animations and limited camera framing is the problem.
Nice video🔥. Will you continue your stealth and survive series in the near future. Those where my favorites because they where so long.
Definitely plan to! Those videos take a lot longer to make which is why I don't upload them as frequently but I still plan to make more! Thanks for the support, have a good day!
Nice videos bro..Amazing Work 💯💯🤝🤝👏👏👏
Odyssey had a severe pacing issue, the game just had far too many irrelevant filler quests. Every tender moment is abruptly shortened to make you do a bunch of fetch quests.
For real. I honestly lost it when I was at the part where Kassandra/Alexios’s dad was the Pythagorean Theorem guy.
I will say the exploration was the best part of the game. I did not care about the plot at all I just wanted to see the pretty islands 😂
@@ers_watchesThat's the main reason why I play through most ubisoft games. They are really pretty to explore. They get discounted easily and you can have a good 12-15 hrs and then delete them.
Ac odyssey tried so hard to be TW3 but they forget why TW3 side quests are so much praised.
@@thelastpersononearth9765 Exactly. Beautiful graphics, wish the stories were the same someday 😂
And have sex. Don't forget about all the sexing.
Great videos man
It was expected to start seeing videos like this
most ubi games feel exactly the same now, like they are afraid to try something new (besides ac mirage and origins).
you have that funny upbeat protaginist, the side kicks that are the bestest of friends. the evil villian that has a understandable motive, the side missions that range from grabbing a note from a house to grabbing plants. feels very cookie cutter and well..........safe.
i am wondering of because of all the hate they got from false gamers on games like ac3, watch dogs 1, unity, and origins, ubi just looked at the games that worked and went with that, idk if that is 100% true but it feels like it.
ac mirage is the first ubi game since origins that i went "wow, they didn't rely on jokes and comedy for once and actually focused on the characters and a serious tone again."
Lowkey though, hear me out.
Far Cry 5 had a great story.
I would like a Far Cry game set in Afghanistan. The story could be something about a US squad who gets attacked by some taliban soldiers, and then we play as the only survivor. He gets locked up and interrogated. Over days/weeks he make friends with the other prisoners, and they attempt to make a cuop/escape. Like the intro, many dies, but this time a few other survives along with the main character. Then the real fun begins...
Name of the main character: Jackson West (or Miller)
If hes a soldier there wouldnt be a character arc, nor would he try things outside his training, i would rather him be a naive tourist or Journalist so the amateur melee and gun handling would feel nice and make sense.
i feel like in some games (odessey for example) most of the content doesnt work towards the end of the story, which wouldnt be an issue if the story wasnt generic and bland, but because it is, it makes it worse
The Getaway, I would say had one of the best game stories and presentation of all time.
Avatar just felt like blue Woodstock. But i did notice its one of the few new Ubisoft titles that doesn't state its a Ubisoft original.
Just amazing.
In many games I felt like I'm just rushing through the story to get to the free roam.
I don't even know what's going on, anymore.
Will Shay Cormac be categorised as an anti hero, after all, he did things which makes others view him as a villain whereas through his pov he's doing what he believe is the right thing
They have differnt Writers and another issue is the focus on player freedom means they offten can not set up a great story moment. Freedom is great but there certain times were a mission may need to be more linear for story telling purposes also sometimes having a few linear missions can allow them to have unique gameplay elements. Kingdom come shows you can do all 3 of these things but The issue is its really tough to pull off.
While Ubiosft games may let you go to bandit camp and clear it using stealth or combat, this Is basically the only types of missions you have in modern ubisoft games.
Story is essential to a video game. It is after all just another storytelling medium.
idk maybe because i already liked Avatar but im actually enjoying playing Avatar Pandora (plus far cry 3 was the last i far cry game i played). but AC i can agree with since ive played every game, mirage definitely broke the recent AC cycle
I definitely feel like it has regressed. I’m like such a fanboy about Assassins creed that I just eat up all the new games still and enjoy them a lot but they also just don’t have as much stick around power anymore. When they’re over I don’t want to replay, but I replay the old ones basically every year up to Origins. So really only Odyssey and Valhalla, but I’m really still excited for AC Red because it feels like the game with rumored the most improvements it sounds like that I would enjoy but that says nothing about the story, I’m at least excited that they both exist and I can play as both and they both protagonist really influence the world apparently.
Gaming industry in general is going thru this phase. Compare Starfield to Fallout4, or Skyrim, i will go as far as saying the regression in much more severe in Bethesda titles. If you compare the story of Valhalla vs Starfield it becomes very clear. As a single player title Valhalla and Mirage are both superior to Starfield.
I definitely agree man like wtf happened to their story writing after so long. I honestly just blame the Trends
They're chasing trends more then doing what they're good at
In primary school when writing stories kids are taught that stories need a beginning , a middle and an end. Modern cinema and games don't want to write endings because that means they have to stop trying to milk their bland non-ending, unsatisfying tale for every last drop of money.
But of course, we the audience don't like any of it because there is no cathartic ending.
They are destroying themselves.
Long time ago in galaxy far away one of the main Ubisoft principles was "gameplay tells a story". Gameplay, not cutscenes. Watch Dogs Legion is a good step back to that principle. All Far Cry games are based on that principle too. Prince of Persia 2008 is a brilliant examle.
Gameplay should tell a story, not cutscenes. It's not a cinema!
Ubisoft gives you a playground to make your own story by your own gameplay. Do it! Make your own story!
They should make a Far Cry where you play as the villain trying to quell the rebel uprising. But that’s probably not a safe enough premise these days.
Wb origins it was amazing and gamebreaking
“Gamebreaking” 😂
On my ac unity play through (after brotherhood) and cant be a better time to agree with the title of this video!!!
Could someone tell me how basim is an anti hero without spoiling the game alot
Markos is the best comic relief 🗣🗣🗣
Couldn’t have explained it better myself. I think Ubisoft misunderstood why people loved FarCry 3.
The last two UBI games I truly enjoyed was Farcry 5 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Agreed. They were both a lot of fun. Nothing perfect but fun, well made games.
Did you liked origins?
Hollywood, Gaming, "news" media they all have the same issue. Lazy writing.
I think the main problem with ubisoft is the people who work there, every other problem is a symptom. They really don't care about keeping their talents and they have lost so many creative people in 2010s. Just look at directors, writers and producers of the first AC games; people like Patrice Desilets, Jade Raymond, Corey May, and even Alex Amancio are not working on AC anymore.
AC Mirage is the perfect example of that Ubisoft can still make a Good AC games, but most of the times these days they just don't want to.
Right. I gotta disagree about Valhalla. Some of the story arcs were amazingly creative and brilliant. Take East Anglia for example
Valhalla had some incredibly emotional and fun storylines. It’s just that RUclipsrs have to hate on it, otherwise they won’t get any views….
The goofy writing really ruins the games tonally, also ubisofts fear of having the main character doing anything remotely bad.
I like that you mentioned Far Cry 6. While I enjoyed the gameplay and some side quests, the idea of having Zoomers as the members of resistance movement was just... stupid, for the lack of better word. I couldn't believe that people who behaved and looked like Yelena or Jonrón were able to participate in firefights with royal soldiers. El Tigre and the old veterans were believable while La Moral felt like a bunch of Zoomers who would just use social media to fight the president, not guns. They didn't even use any body armour during missions, they went to fight wearing things that I would put on myself after work to feel more comfortable. The whole idea of this young, resistance group just felt kinda cringy and unbelievable. I wouldn't ever look at them and say something like "Yeah, they look like they are ready to fight president and his soldiers". The main story was just incredibly goofy because of that. What's worse is that we also had a hip-hop group where one guy was even a trans person. I just even stopped thinking at one point if it makes sense at all.
I haven’t got mine. This sucks.
I am gonna summarize everything you said into a single sentence:
They keep pussyfying and degrading the only two games they ever made whilst painting them over with a zoomer color scheme whilst e-begging via micro transactions the whole time...
The new "RPG" mechanics are shit, the thing that makes an PRG is actual good dialogue and choice, you know, the things that non of Ubisoft games ever had (FC2 and FC3 partially excluded... )
Maybe is me,but since i started playing games in 1996(back then my english was inexistent) only since 2004 i started to learn english(high school),in my primary we learned french and deutch(german),i allways played games for gameplay, graphics and design.
Now i know english, but whenever there is a skip button i press it as fast as i can.
For me Tlou2 was a masterpiece,i didn't care for any of the characters,i've read books with more interesting drama and main characters that got killed in first chapter than TLOU2 story, even first game.
Why i point TLOU2 and 1,well because both games won so many awards.
I finished Odyssey with DLC/ng+ and all too many times,400h+ each time skip dialog, choose the yellow option, skip trough cinematics.
Your comment doesn't make sense because you said now you konw English you skip cutscenes I don't get it
@@whitewolf1028 I don't have patience to wait for all the bla bla,i skip the cinematics where is possible.
Not allways, not for any game i skip, but in most games i care more for the gameplay.
I know what i have to do for specific game, like i know how to read objectives(for example in AC odyssey i got a mission where i had to collect some ingredients for some love potion to make a old woman feel "young" able to have fun again,i skipped trough dialog and choosed all the options so that i have all the clues in top corner, under objective).
I find some games to have so much talk and less action.
In Alan Wake 2 i watch the cinematics because otherwise i don't understand what to do,it's made like that.
Ghost of Tsushima was a pain for me,because i was bored to death by me having to listen to every dialogue that i didn't care.
I watch movies without subtitles,i listen english music and i understand every word but for games, especially AC series,i skip,i leave those Isu cinematics,i find them OK.
Imagine playing AC Valhalla and have 100% completion with leaving every line and every cinematic, instead having 160h(that much i had after 100%+all dlc's) to have more than 300+.
Patience,i lack, patience in games, when i started gaming Cinematics were some Text and the rest was gameplay, nowdays that text is replaced by cinematics and too much bla bla i don't care.
Sorry for this long comment,if reading this was tidious, that is what i feel when i see an unskippable cinematic.
I've never played watchdogs, but so many people say it's in the same universe as AC. That watch dogs is what the present day actually looks like. Is any of that true? Are they connected, at all? I know there is the hidden blade and a weirdly cool jacket, but is that it or is this lady an actual assassin???
You’re not missing out, it’s trash af. candy crush is a better game
The first two Watch Dogs were incredible. I didn't play Legion but it was a step down from the previous games, according to what I've seen. And to answer your question, yes the universes are connected. I'm not sure if I like that much at all though, because the mystery and seriousness of the first Assassin's Creed games were abandoned, so the story does not have as much impact.
Top 2 my favorite protagonist from Video games Edward kenway Arthur Morgan
It feels immature and kind of kid like. Especially Assassins Creed games. The dialogue is just so cheesy and feels like a 13 year olds fan fiction.
i agree, but origins and mirage had some good storytelling, origins especially was amazing
These games exist in one gta verse. It includes Ubisoft franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs. And Ghost Recon as well.
I started Valhalla recently and the main story started so good i genuinely thought it was gonna be the best. Then Eivor turned into a .... bland character with no past and no thinking. Such a wasted opportunity with how amazing the intro felt
The thing with Ubisoft is that, they have the potential but they choose to be generic... In order to please the wider audience.
Assassin's Creed Origins and Far Cry 5 are proof enough that they still have that magic from the older days.
They’re focusing more on the DEI stuff
I think Far Cry is the one Ubisoft franchise that seriously needs a makeover. Literally, they're using the same engine and the same gameplay formula in Far Cry since Far Cry 3. The last Far Cry that wasn't afraid to innovate was Far Cry 2 (and arguably Primal which didn't sell well). Why do I think Far Cry needs a makeover? Well, look at Ghost Recon Wildlands. Wildlands outdoes Far Cry in nearly every aspect and it came out before Far Cry 5. Why couldn't Wildlands be the next evolution of Far Cry? Another thing, Wildlands takes itself seriously, more so than almost any other Ubisoft game that released and I love it for that.
Wildlands open world was soo good. Felt really like you are in Bolivia.
But I liked farcry4 scenery
Can u pls do an assassins and templar free for all battle who would win. everyone at their prime , no one holding back ( even if they fight ther family ), and considering edward beacame co leader of british assassins and a master assassin, connor who was aldeady strong enough to beat an entire army alone got even stronger as he trained more ( he was around 26 to 28 at the end of ac3 so imagin if he trained for like 8 more years ), and even arno proceeded to get stronger and became a master assassin.( not who is a better assassin or templar but who would be first, second, third, fourth and fift in an assassins and templars free for all anyone can fight anyone and can u pls do a match up between (haytham and connor) and ( anro and shay ) with interactions but no one holding back and before fighting arno shay fought aachilles( shay fought him as a templar with interactions but no holding back) and dont consider if the person got tired after their previous fight)
"Kings of mediocrity" that's the best way to describe Ubisoft the past 5 years.
*Creativity in general has regressed....UniSoft is in great shape though 👌 Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Starlink, Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed all have huge potential...just gotta make the right decisions going forward* 🌈
Prince of persia is also a ubisoft game and dear God, this game is best thing ubisoft did since farcry 3
Bro Didnt even mention the prince of persia series , an ABSOLUTE magnificent trilogy with a terrific lead and villains like dahaka capable of keeping 7 year old me up for nights on end!and even some hot female characters too
All their titles would seem Decent and Fun for a new player. Imagine you've never played farcry and your first experience was Farcry 6. You'd probably enjoy it. In my opinion the problem is not so much in their games or stories , it's the fact that they are afraid to move out of the Safe Zone and try new things with their titles. I'd like to see then with a brand new IP , you can only tell Assasssins Creed or Farcry stories for so long. They are just in Copy and Paste mode. Minimal effort , minimal investment and decent profit is where AAA studios are these days. Big risk and big investment in things like cinematics = more money they have to make just to break even, and with risk comes the chance of big failure, and most corporations in any industry just Play it Safe.
Yes because instead of giving you another battle royal or shooter multiplayer they give you a basic sandbox to just waste your time in. The story is there just to add some "meaning" but other than that all their games are shallow nowadays.
The issue with at least far cry is twofold. For one they obviously keep chasing the villain with gravitas that vaas was rather than making fun different stories like they should and it’s just not working. However that is the second issue in and of itself because for those who weren’t aware they didn’t make vaas in the first place😂😂😂. It’s a cyberpunk type scenario where the villain was just Hoyt until Michael mando showed up with vaas and they decided to put him in the game, so essentially it’s like how can you recreate something you never created? Obviously they can’t😂. When you look at far cry 3 as if it was the same just without vaas and compare it to the other far crys old and new it really makes sense how they’ve gotten so bad. The original far cry 3 was going to be as bland as the ones we’ve gotten since then, however I do like Hoyt and if the reality where vaas didn’t happen existed now I think there’s an argument that the next far cry’s might have been better than the ones we got in this reality. Who knows?🤷🏽♂️
Not having a main character in Legion is a biggest mistake. Legion is not well thought out
I still enjoy the new games' storys nonetheless.
I don’t think it’s just Ubisoft. As games get more and more expensive to make, they have become a lot safer, with generic stories that try and appeal to the largest audience possible with the least potentially ‘offensive’ content. Sony has a similar problem in their games as well. Sony’s games are graphically great, and the stories are fine, but they just don’t really resonate the way a lot of older games used to despite exposition becoming longer than ever. You see this across the board in the industry. And a big concern is that GTA will go this route as well now.
And of course different writers pumping out sequels rather than making passion projects is going to lead to a blander end product. It’s why games like AC or Horizon Forbidden West look amazing, but have boring forgettable stories. Studios are afraid to tell unique stories these days because the loss is so much greater if they don’t hit the mark. A generic story may have some players lose interest but the average casual player isn’t going to care. And we are kind still in the graphics over story and gameplay era and that seems to be where most games spend their budgets in the triple A space. It’s rare we get a solid mix of all 3 anymore.
It’s also really hard to tell a tight linear story in an open world format that gives players any freedom at all. So I do think that is also a driving force as to why open world games especially feel so formulaic. You can’t have real stakes when a player could skip content, or play it in any order. It essentially has to be generic or on rails. Or I guess it doesn’t have to be. But man devs have not figure that out yet that’s for sure.
Watchdogs 1 was lit🔥
Did you see that hackers got in to Ubisoft an aparantly played a watch dogs 4 demo , I’m praying 🙏 that it’s true
Please play more of ac nexus
I've never played any of the Assassins Creed games, but every time I hear about them it's always to bash on them.
Valhalla didn’t really even have a story in my opinion. It was just raid this, build an alliance here, repeat. And then Eivor never even remotely becomes an assassin. You can beat the game and the character could care less if you went after the Templars. At least Kassandra/Alexios had a drive to defeat the cult in the end.
It's long become quantity over quality and it works because people keep buying whatever they churn out.
The rebellion plot in FC6 is much better and believable than in FC5.
Don't forget their sales will regress as result of their terrible business practices
I will say Far Cry 6 had great gameplay (guns) and I also liked the cast as they were all entertaining and energetic but story wise it was mid
Finally respect for mirage stoy
There’s an academic theory that there are only 7 stories to be told in all of literature, and everything else is only variations. With regard to video games, we should remember that this shit is not even literature, just kiddy comic book stuff, and probably shouldn’t be looked at too hard. It’s just an excuse to get you to enjoy the traversal-combat-progression gameplay loop, a reason to run, jump, and shoot things.
That said, there are exceptionally story heavy games, but they usually trade off replayability (as you already know what happens) gameplay mechanics, or player choice (stories are linear by nature, and to tell a great story you have to railroad the player down specific lines, use a lot of cut scenes, etc.) Personally, if I want great story I’d rather watch a movie or something. In a video game, just give me fun gameplay. But to each their own.
Coincidentally, I just finished playing AC Unity and started Watchdogs Legions, and I was thinking today that Ubisoft seems to have only 1 story to tell-plucky rebels fighting against the system. Watchdogs, AC, Ghost Recon games all fit this description. I guess it just fits in well with their formula, where to go region by region achieving sub goals before going after bigger goals, etc. I’m ok with that; I know what I’m going to get with Ubisoft, and like I said above, look at story as an excuse to run and jump and shoot things.
Plz do darksouls plz 😃😃😃
Unisoft treating it's playerbase like it's CN/Disney/Nick viewers with its unfocused mess of shows that can't hold still for a singular frame of animation, without throwing some weird crap at the screen to try and keep people paying attention.
I think Ubisoft storytelling has always just been decent to me the world being so massive just expose its problems
